The property is located just behind or next to the cathedral with a parking lot which I didn’t need but was convenient for those who did. The staff is helpful and friendly. The rooms are simple, spotless and cozy. Breakfast is buffet with simple, nutritious and fresh offerings. The coffee? Terrific!

It was impossible to drive to the hotel without special instructions, which we received only after having parked some distance away and walking with our luggage to check in. After I received the special instructions and retrieved my car from the public parking lot it took a long time to get to the hotel since road construction and detours blocked the route recommended by Google maps, which I was using to navigate.

The desk clerk was away from the desk for 30 minutes or more in the morning when I was waiting to pay for breakfast and check out.

Location, location, location

This hotel is in an old priory near the summit of the hill with the magnificent Chartres Cathedral. Desk was helpful with parking info, and how to exit the restricted area before dawn, so we didn't have to tackle the steep hill after the snow started.

Good for groups, but less so for couples.

This place is, I think, best described as a hostel for older folk. It seems to seek to preserve the rigours of its previous lives as a nunnery and seminary. My husband and I, after a rigorous pilgrimage à pied from Maintenon, were greeted by a cool but not rude greeting by the receptionist. We next went to our room on the third floor (there IS an ascenseur that was working!) and crept our way along an unlit corridor - eventually our key-card worked at our assigned room, and later we discovered some light switches. This feature, along with the shampoo dispensary accords this place a high eco-score! The room itself offered the austerities of one pillow each, and a window without a curtain, which would have let in plenty of light to rouse a reluctant nun or seminarian craving a bit more sleep. The shower was easy to use and had good pressure, but was slippery and spilled out over the floor. Beware all ye oldsters with fragile limbs! The neighbourhood was mainly quiet, but I was awoken by the “cloches” of the present age - ambulance sirens echoing over the valley that spreads out widely below the hôtelerie. Allof these discomforts would have been supportable if it had not been for the absence of WIFI outside of the 8am to 8pm corridor when we rigorous pelerins were not in our room. This was a rigour we, as a couple travelling without a leader, were not prepared to endure, and whichwe regarded as an ungenerous economy on the part of whoever now runs this place.

Very convenient for the cathedral

The hotel itself is lovely and very conveniently placed to visit the cathedral. However there are so many one way, very narrow streets, it's very difficult to find the hotel parking. You have to drive through a road bollard & get it lowered by pressing a button to ask. Nowhere is that mentioned & it definitely should be!

It was basically okay. There was some mold in the bathroom but there were obvious attempts to clean it. Step up from the hall to the room, steps up to the bathroom. View of nothing with weedy flower pots strewn about. One key to room which must be used to lock the door from the inside.

We loved our stay, it is very close to the cathedral and clean and comfortable. Be sure to get very clear driving directions BEFORE you get to town. This is a tricky location. Fortunately, a terrific person at the reception desk talked us in!

The location is great but otherwise this is a dormitory style facility for the price of a 3-star hotel. The wifi doesn't work in some rooms. We had to ask for soap. There was never any soap for the sink. And they have a potentially serious safety problem. Their hallway and exit stairwell lights are on a timer and you have to be able to find the ON switches in the dark. Staff are nice but they don't have a service orientation.

I loved the former priory, but it took me 45 minutes of driving around to find it because a road was blocked off. The night porter was very helpful, but if I didn't speak French I'd never have found the place.

Hotellerie saint Yves Chartres France review

First be aware the rooms are very small. That’s was fine for me; but very small. Bed was comfortable. Also I was there during the recent heat wave, no air conditioning. Room stayed hot all night. If you are going to drive to the hotel, make sure you have GPS; otherwise very frustrating. Also be aware, hotel front desk closes between 12 noon - 2pm so no one is available to let you into the hotel parking lot. . Same situation after 8pm. However; once you check in, you’re giving a card that drops the security barrier to let you into the hotel parking lot.
The great news is it is extremely close to the Cathedral. The breakfast cost 10 euros and was fabulous and worth the cost!!

Bottom line; if you can check in after 3pm and before 8pm, if the weather isn’t very hot and are ok with a very clean but small room, I highly recommend it! If I go back to Chartres, I’m staying there!

Another note, the area surrounding the Cathedral has very good restaurants and USA comfortable also.

Note, if you are going to walk the Cathedral labyrinth; as of present, it is only available to walk on Fridays between 10am-5pm. I meet a few people on Saturday who missed the walking the labyrinth experience.

Finally; there is an unsecure place to hold your luggage before & after checking in & out.

Location is amazing, half block away from the cathedral. Hotel is a former monestary, so rooms are bare but clean & functional. Perfect for a short stay. Staff is very friendly and helpful, breakfast buffet was satisfactory, walking distance from many restaurants. We were really glad we found this hotel. It was a much different experience from the usual.

Bring your own soap, no airconditioning in room and the heat was very good for a very cold May, the additional cost for the breakfast: hard boiled egg, limited cold cuts, bread, coffee was not worth it find a restaurant that serves crepes. The elevator was slower than taking the stairs. Beds were good and the view from this top of hill location was the best. Parking (bring skinny cars exit from one door only) is limited to about 25 cars (there are 50 rooms so more walk than drive), there were a few open spaces early in all 3 mornings,

Before coming to this hotel please prepare your way. We were wondering around the hotel for 1 hour after Waze and Google maps failed to lead us. When we arrived we found out that the check in time is until 8PM and no one available in the hotel and no one is answering the telephone. We had to look for other hotel

Location is ideal for visitors to Chartres Cathedral - 1 minute walk.
This is a very bare bones Church run facility.
My single bed, with bath, room was plain, almost like a monk's cell, but immaculately clean and up to date.
Wifi in my room was iffy due to thick stone walls and a weak router signal. Alternative wifi locations were available outside my room.
The included continental breakfast was good.
Highly recommended for the price and location.

I have been coming here from time for the last ten or so years. I usually give it the highest marks and wholeheartedly recommend it, even if just for the location and free parking just 50 metres from the cathedral. It seems they've tried improvements recently which haven't bee entirely successful, upgrading showers etc., but the tap in the basin was loose and one light hanging fro the wall.The prices have gone up exacerbated by the exchange rate. But it's still the place for me. A wonderful building especially friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast still good in the wonderful ancient arched room. I hope they get the maintenance issues sorted. Despite these, still go tit's still pretty good value. and definitely unique

We had a lovely stay. The hotel is close to the cathedral and shopping, but confusing to get to if you’re driving. We recommend a taxi. They will provide a hair dryer if you ask but no lotion or conditioner, and there is no one at the reception during certain midday hours and at night. Our tv didn’t work. receptionist was a big help for us, calling a taxi and giving directions. Very quiet at night with a great view of the city.

Beautiful old hotel, built on the site of a monastery, so close to the city center and Cathedral. Wish we could have stayed longer. Our room was quiet and comfortable, although the pillows were strange and somewhat lumpy. None of the hotels we stayed in provided shampoo or conditioner, so bring your own! The front desk was friendly enough although gave us some incorrect information about when stores open in the morning and she didn't know that a site we wanted to see--La Maison Picassiette--was closed for the winter. Overall, a very nice stay and wonderfully located.

This is a former seminary. The rooms are simple but fine the bath is updated and good. You pay for convenience quiet and a friendly and helpful staff.
It is difficult to get to because it is in the old city where car access is limited. When you get to the pylon buzz the security and they will lower the pylon so you can enter. I drove by the blocked street at least 4 times before trying the intercom.

This monastery-turned-hotel is the very definition of minimalist. Small room, tiny bathroom - don't stay here if you exceed 200 lb! On the plus side, a great location literally in the shadow of the spectacular cathedral and bargain-basement room rates. Free Wifi and English-language TV stations. We didn't opt for the $10 breakfast buffet, preferring a light (and inexpensive) start at one of the many cafes in town.
Don't miss the opportunity for a tour of the cathedral with Malcolm Miller, who has been there for over 50 years. He is an absolute treasure!

Sheets on 3rd bed were of questionable cleanliness, but the after-hours caretaker provided clean sheets upon request. Extremely clean otherwise, and a spacious room for 3 people. Fantastic location - when driving up, you'll reach a roadblock (a short pillar in the middle of the road), but if you push the button and tell the person who answers that you're there for Hotellerie St Yves, they'll drop it and you'll be able to drive directly to the hotel and park in their parking lot.

Central Location; Need to check cleanliness

The hotel was in a nice central location. The staff were friendly and helpful. However there was a disappointment with the shower the following morning of my stay. When I opened the shower stall door, this bad odour just wafted out. I figured it would dissipate in a few minutes, so I started running the shower and immediately it began to back up. A quick look revealed something had been stuffed into the drain, plugging it. I don't know if it can be expected they check the plumbing every time they clean the room. It's more the disrespect of the previous people to stuff something into the drain and cover it, but it did lead to disappointment in the stay. I would try it again though if I am ever back in Chartres. It's a simple affordable hotel, a place to put your luggage while you're out and rest at night.

This lovely former seminary, built in about the 17 century, is right around the corner from the cathedral. The room was quiet, had its own bathroom, and the window looked over the courtyard and to the spires of nearby buildings, including the cathedral. The buffet breakfast was quite filling, and the staff were helpful.

This is a converted monastery in the old city very close to the cathedral. The location can't be beat and is very quiet. It isn't luxury, but completely serviceable with everything you need and a friendly staff. A good value, and did I say the location can't be beat?
If driving, it is tricky to find, but if you have a GPS, put in the address, and when you reach it, watch for signs to the hotel (which will be around the corner and up a very narrow street, then through a gate at a tight corner). There is free parking if space permits.

A Most Enjoyable One Night Stay in Chartres

We were travelling from the south of France to Paris and we wanted to drop off our rental car somewhere close to Paris to avoid driving there. Chartres was ideal, the city with its world famous cathedral and its narrow streets was a great attraction. The light show in the evening was a bonus as we had not heard about this.

The hotel is somewhat utilitarian however the room was clean, the desk personnel friendly and the location superb.

two nights in Chartres with my husband. Had to book a twin room (which are cheap and cheerful with plastic toilet / shower cubical in the corner) because was full. However when we arrived we found we were in their larger room (double and single bed with proper bath in bathroom attached) for the same price as they had over booked.Thank you! Much more comfortable and for a middle aged couple, much better.
THE BEST place to stay in Chartres unless you can get a B and B on the square as literally just round the back of the cathedral. Good parking. Best approach via Rue Des Acacias from the front of the cathedral. If you put the road it's on in your sat nav it will take up and down one way medieval streets!
Just say \"St Yves\" at the intercom at the eclectic bollard ad put it down for you. No trouble

Lovely hotel in historic building with friendly staff. However breakfast wasn't anything special and we weren't given advance warning that reception is closed after 5pm. We had a panic trying to check in at 10pm and had to ask a guest who happened to pass for an emergency contact number as the hotel was completely locked up.

I spent two nights here and was very comfortable. The only complaint I have about my visit is it was extremely difficult to find the hotel. It took two nice French people to get me there! Better signage or directions would be helpful. I take heart that it wasn't just me, as I remember reading other reviews with similar comments. Once I was there I could relax and not get in the car again until it was time to leave. I loved being right next to the cathedral and in the heart of the old town.

Covers on the beds were a little soiled, but everything else seemed clean. The view was great. It is hard to find because of one-way streets, but there is free parking, which was helpful. Simple, reasonably-priced hotel by cathedral

The excitement with this hotel was finding it. We arrived at 9 pm, which is after the front desk clerk leaves. We called ahead and made arrangements for the porter to give us the key. The tricky part was that the hotel is right next to Chartres Cathedral and it is in a pedestrian-only area. You drive up to a barrier and speak into an intercom that goes to the local police station. You tell them you are staying at the Hotellerie St. Yves and they lower the barrier for you. Go to the right of the cathedral and behind it. There is an alleyway back there with a sign indicating no entry. You can drive back there anyway and it takes you to the hotel's parking lot. The porter was very nice and although there was a bit of a French/English language barrier, we communicated adequately. The room was simple and very clean - rather like a college dorm room (except for the clean part). The bathroom was small, like you would find in a cruise ship cabin. But the price was excellent and being right next to the cathedral was very handy for seeing the light show. I highly recommend it.

Really enjoyed our stay. The place is a little old, a little run down, and the rooms are small. But that is more than made up for by the value, the cleanliness, and the location!! You are literally less than a stone's throw away from the cathedral, it can't be more than a 100 yard walk to the entrance.

Nice hotel in a real charming castle

This cute hotel is located at the north side of the Cathedral of Chartres, which is 3 minutes walk to the Cathedral. It is quiet and clean. We arrive there at 6:30. After chech-in and dinner, we have a nice walk around the Cathedral. From our room, we can overlook the streets outside. We even found a mini labyrinth at its backyard below our window. The staff are very informative and lovely with warm welcome.

Interesting location, converted monks cells to hotel rooms, strangely without other character. The hotel needs to advise potential guests the hotel is within a traffic regulated zone, and to enter this requires phoning the police at the barrier to ask entrance to go to hotel.

A Hidden Gem

This is a remarkable hotel almost next door to the Cathedral. Given that it was originally a religious house it has the air of calm and peace not normally found in a town-centre hotel. The rooms reflect the simplicity of the building with simple furnishings, but comfortable beds (additional blankets) and good heating. The modern en-suite, while a little small, provides the usual standard of comfort expected. This hotel is amazing, different and definately recommended.

Amazing location

Interesting drive - GPS essential. Talk to the post at the bollard to gain access to the pedestrian precinct. Wonderful building just below the cathedral. Brilliant views (fog permitting) and a very short walk for restaurants, sights etc. Will go again when in the area.

One night stay while traversing France.

Hotel quite difficult to locate due to one way systems in Chartres center. We actually parked up and ask two elderly ladies, who walked us to the Hotel. The lovely and very efficient receptionist the gave us a map to follow without which I think I could still be there! Hotel was lovely and exuded a feel of quiet and calm, but the room layout was a little like a dormitory.. The wi fi was good but you had to watch at least 30 seconds of adverts every time you logged in.

Great location

We have stayed here about 3 times before and this time was as good as previously. The rooms are basic but very clean, a more comfortable bed would be good, but for the money, I cannot complain. And for the extra the breakfast is well above average for France.

Close to the cathedral

The rooms are simple and fairly basic, but the position is superb, right in the heart of town but peaceful as well. The breakfast (extra cost) was fine and the staff friendly and helpful. The receptionist told us about the son et lumiere show around the town which is a definite must see.

It is very difficult to find unless you have a Sat Nav. The turning into it from a very narrow street is almost an operation of war!

Great cheap hotel right next to the cathedral

This is a great value, basic hotel right by the cathedral, with free parking. We had no problems finding the hotel, or getting through the pedestrian control area. Our triple room had 3 single, comfortable beds and was very clean. The shower room does look like it belongs in a campervan or boat, but it was clean and everything worked, and what more could you ask at such a low price. The staff spoke good english and were keen to help out with information on things to do in Chartres. There are plenty of places to eat near the cathedral, and the light show on the face of the cathedral at night is a must.

Small but functional and convenient location

Perfect for a single person for a night or two. It is literally a two minute walk to Chartres cathedral, so VERY convenient. Nice building and friendly staff. The room was small (as expected from a budget hotel) but had a nice bed, pillows, and bathroom. Only a hair dryer was missing. I would stay here again if in Chartres. Can't beat the location, although I never would have found it without a navigation system. Drive there and then proceed on foot.

Short walk to Cathedral

Hotel was perfectly fine. Given that this is a very popular tourist area, it is a good basic hotel and the staff are very friendly. Access by car is difficult because of the security bollards which surround the zone and the complexity of the street pattern. We had to dump the car and go to the hotel on foot in order to get detailed instructions of how to drive there. So that was a bit stressful but easily resolved. Once in, it is great being so close to the cathedral - well worth it.
