A nice option in Yogyakarta

A very nice hotel and great value. Located a bit outside the old city, but easy enough to navigate, and the surrounding neighborhood is quite nice. The staff are tremendously friendly and helpful, especially Catur, one of the sales managers. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. If you opt for a balcony, choose the garden view, which is more ample. The breakfast selection is excellent, with many local specialties offered every day. Large pool. The hotel could use some updating in terms of decor, but this was a very welcoming and comfortable place.

The property is at a prime location. Going around Jogja wasn’t difficult at all. The staff are patient, kind, and considerate. The room is extremely clean and the housekeeping staff do a stellar job of cleaning the rooms everyday.

The bathrooms are amazing. The water pressure on the shower, the sink, and the health faucet is excellent.

There were some small ants going around but they didn’t cause a massive problem.

All in all, an amazing stay.

The hotel is a short walk from Galeria Mall. There is a lot next to the hotel with lots of trees so the there are birds and flowers around. It’s a very nice and convenient location. Super easy to get a Grab transport anywhere.

Staff and food are wonderful. Bathroom would be a bit more cleaner but I didn’t mind. If you plan to have some work meetings, the internet speed may not be that enough, but otherwise it is okay. A big shopping mall, 1 minute on foot - options to dine, traditional goods to buy. 5 minutes to Malioboro using Grab bikes. Overall, it was a nice stay - I will choose this one when I come back.

Hotel facility is nice and clean. Enjoyed a good selection of vegetarian dishes at the breakfast buffet. Bed was very clean and comfortable. Overall a very nice stay. Our room Bathroom was also very decent and nice. I only have a couple suggestions/ the bathroom corners and edges are hiding a lot of dirt and orange slime, then the glass shower door is almost covered in soap scum. A good scrub of the bathroom will make will gain a full extra star for the hotel. Don’t get me wrong. The bathroom was waaay better compared to some of the other hotels I stayed in. We enjoyed the hot shower abd the cleanliness. But just a bit more scrubbing will make it look much better. A great stay. Will definitely recommend.

NO BATHTUB! Extra fee for Coffee/Tea at B'fast?!

This hotel was decent, but could have a few better things. For one, there was NO BATHTUB in either of our rooms, which it showed in the pictures. Why not? Not sure...but maybe they should take those pics down. Also, I thought breakfast was included, but no, it was a separate price. Finally, they charged extra for the tea and coffee at breakfast! Kinda sad, but that is how it was. Probably won't stay here again, but a decent Fitness Room and pool.

Clean, modern, luxury business hotel in a convenient downtown location. Great food options in the restaurant with an excellent breakfast buffet. The room was spacious and comfortable, and my only complaint is that the AC wasn't switched on in the room the first day (so when we tried to adjust the thermostat, nothing happened!). Fortunately, this was remedied the following day by the housekeeping staff. We would definitely stay here again.

Tiny rooms, found bug in breakfast food

The rooms are tiny. Not fit for 4-5 people as advertised. Booked a room which was advertised to accommodate 4 people - only 1 bed that can barely squeeze in 3 people (1 adult and 2 kids). There was no sofa bed for 4th person and they said they will charge for an extra bed.
The staff didn't speak very good English.
The dinner buffet was limited choice. During one breakfast, my son found a bug in one of the food.
Overall not a hotel I would recommend to anyone.

I have stayed in this and other hotels in the Yogya region and the Novotel remains the best in its price range. Rooms are reasonable, comfortable, and pleasantly laid out. Always good, the recently renovated restaurant has both poolside and interior spaces that are city, spacious, and pleasant. Food offerings include both Indonesian and European and are both good and reasonably priced. The pool setting is beautiful, and the hotel's fitness center has three good quality treadmills (and other machines), three full sets of weights, a weekly yoga class, and a nice lay out. Location is particularly convenient the University, but also offers easy access both to Jl. Malioboro and out-of-town tours. Above all, though, this hotel has a friendly and professional staff, and a Polish-born manager who knows Indonesia and runs the hotel well.

The location of the hotel is good as it is in city center & near to most of the city places like Malioboro street etc.
However, the staff service is disappointing. we got our room after waiting for 1.5hrs and with continuous follow up on the same.
The room cleaning staff was also very slow. whatever we requested for, we used to get half of it. For e.g.: 2 dental kits please and we got 1 dental kit etc.

We were surprised by the hotel coz its our wedding anniversary. That feels good as the manager Mr Agung came personally to our room with the cake. The staffs were so helpful and caring. The staff at the restaurant were very pleasant and remembered us personally. Mr Dewa at the concierge was very courteous and help us with his ready smile. I hope I can come back with my family. For tourism and access to Gadjah Mada University, this is one of the best hotels in Yogya -- and certainly one of the best priced in this price range. Convenient too to an adjacent mall, and lovely local restaurants within walking distance. Staff and management are great. The fitness center is good, but 2 of the 3 tread mills were under repair. But otherwise a very good center.

Our family of 2 adults and 1 teen stayed for 4 nights in Nov 2018 in a standard room. We were expecting a king bed only but were surprised by the extra large bed which equals 2 queen beds combined, hence 3 of us could sleep comfortably in this huge bed.
The room fittings are in good condition however it was a challenge to climb in and out of the bath tub for shower as the side is quite tall.
I enjoyed the breakfast for the outstanding pastries and coffee.
Would definitely stay here again next time.

If you drive the car, parking can be a bit challenging with those tight corner and limited space. My Preferred central Yogya hotel

This is my favorite, mid-range hotel in the central Yogya and Gadja Mada University area. The hotel sits on a major street, but it backs off of it into a pleasant Yogya neighborhood so most rooms are calm and pleasant. Staff are consistently cordial and helpful. The fitness center has two treadmills, an array of other machines, and an excellent variety of weights... and unlike many fitness centers in Yogya it doesn't get too crowded (except on occasion in the late afternoon). Rooms are quite large by international standards, and decorated in a simple but tasteful Indonesian/Javanese way; housekeeping is first rate. The restaurant favors Indonesian cuisine (my preference), but also has a wide array of European and American favorites, including a credible hamburger and fries. A short walk (away from the main street) into the adjacent tree-lined neighborhood sit some of Yogya's newest and relaxedly hip restaurants and coffee shops. Above all else, it is the warmth of the staff and management that make this a first rate hotel.

I had bad impression ever since I stepped into the hotel because hotel guests not friendly and warmly welcomed.Had to approached to staffs instead to get information and asked them to carry heavy languages from my elderly parents.Having waited too long at reception to get rooms but not given rooms as per requested.They seemed to frighten to speak in English and some of them have very poor language. Overall has very low impression despite being thinking highly of this famous Novotel hotel.The bathroom wall is not cleaning at all,remained some stains and weeds on it.

Great Staff, Excellent Location for seeing Yogya

I have traveled to Yogyakart for 30 years and watched it add dozens of new hotels to the local offerings. For mid-range, well-priced hotels, the Novotel remains one of my two favorites. The staff are superb-- considerate, well trained, and as friendly as you will find anywhere. The rooms are ample, and, although some of the bathtub facilities show a little age, the room staff keep them clean and pleasant. The fitness center is also well-outfitted, although during peak hours the two treadmills are quickly taken; the hotel used to have three treadmills and would do well to add a third. But, once again, the fitness center staff are great, and the machines and weights very good. As to room choices, all choices are good, but I particularly like the executive rooms -- with free laundry and an espresso machines. Hotel breakfasts are also, not just good, but excellent -- with superb staff once again. Do remember to order the breakfast option when you book your room. All in all, this is a very reasonably priced, pleasant, and well managed hotel -- a restful place in a great city.

I felt that the perceived value of Novotel hotel standard is higher than the actual experience in Yogyakarta. I found it disappointing and the hotel is old and in need of renovation to the bathroom. The bath tub starts to flood and the basin floods too. The bath towels are greyish in colour. The water that came out of the tap is also greyish in colour.

On none smoking floors, i saw patrons smoking with their room doors open when i walked passed it. This does not make any sense to me since they offer smoking rooms as an option.

One of Yogya's Best Priced and Best Hotels

This is a conveniently located and very well run hotel, north of Yogyakarta's historical Malioboro district, and just south of the Gadjah Mada University Campus. I've traveled to Yogya for 30 years, and this is one of my two favorite hotels in this (excellent) price range. The staff are great, the rooms ample and pleasant, and the restaurant -- although quiet in the evenings -- offers a fine range of European and Indonesian food. The fitness center is also very good, and the staff there both helpful and welcoming.

This hotel is a good one on the main Yogya - Solo Rd., perfect for a quick getaway to Prambanan and Borobudur. Not many restaurants around this area, so it is best to take your meals at the hotel - don't expect Jalan Malioboro type surroundings and activity.

the staff were all very helpful, the executive room is just perfect for us with young kid to sleep together,
very big and comfy bed. The check-in process was a bit long, there were 2 staff on duty but they seemed

Excellent Hotel In Its Price Range

I've traveled to Yogyakarta for years, but only recently begun to stay in the Novotel again. Among the 20 or so Yogyakarta hotels in its price range, it is among my two favorite. The managers combine European quality service with Indonesian hospitality. Rooms are good sized, and most above the second floor have nice views. The restaurant offers a tasty and changing selection of Indonesian and European foods (superb Indonesian fare being a tad more common on the menu, as I prefer); restaurant staff are generous and professional. The pool is charming; the fitness center is ample (although one more tread mill beyond the two available would avoid the rush for tread-mill use during evening hours) and the fitness center people are both knowledgable about exercise and remarkably friendly. The Javanese gamelan played in the restaurant during some mornings and evening meals is, in my opinion, an additional delight (do please keep the Javanese gending going!).

It's a great hotel, great location, closed to shopping mall and located in the city. Service can be improved, the hotel receptionist needs to learn how to treat people who has been in line waiting to be serviced and not whoever shows up in front of them. The culture of waiting in line needs to be implemented here. I was waiting in the line, the receptionist saw me standing there; suddenly there was a gentleman who cut the line. She did not say a word and just start serving this gentleman. I was still in the line being patient, until another lady cut me off after the gentleman and the receptionist was trying to help whoever shows up to the front line instead of having others wait for their turn.

Location and amazing amazing staff

I cannot recommend this hotel enough. Although one of the older of the branded hotels, the facilities, building and décor were in good order. The wifi free in the rooms, the breakfast was full of tasty local treats as well as the usual European bakery items, cereals and so on. But the overwhelming winner at this hotel was the staff. They genuinely cannot do enough to help you and make your stay a pleasant one. From a casual remark I made to the checkin staff, they brought my mother out a cake for her birthday and sang. They organized a taxi to a restaurant that we were going to that is a little out of the way and made sure that they didn't overcharge us and waited for us. We ended up booking all our excursions through the team at the transport desk and I have to say they were amazing. Imron especially. Made sure we got to where we were going, he gave us invaluable advice about when to go, didn't over sell, helped with tickets and was very respectful of my parents. The food is great and again the staff couldn't do enough to help us out. Thank you to the team, I will certainly be back.

We stayed in 5 hotels on our honeymoon tour and this was the only disappointing hotel we stayed at. All the other hotels offered complementary cake, fruit or wine with a heart shape of flower petals on the bed for our honeymoon. This hotel offered nothing. We mentioned in conversation when we were checking in that we had just arrived from Lombok and it is our honeymoon to which the staff said 'well, you're not on an island now'. Because we prefer to pay with cash rather than give our credit card details on check in, a member of staff came to our room to LOCK THE MINIBAR! Very rude. No other hotel we stayed at did this. Our bathroom was not clean and the shower head was broken and dirty. We mentioned this to reception but it was never fixed. The restaurant is very expensive compared to Yogyakarta restaurants.

It is in a good location however and the city of Yogyakarta is incredibly vibrant! It's such a shame that this hotel was so poor, I think they prioritise business guests over holiday guests. It is the only disappointing hotel we stayed at in Indonesia (out of 5 hotels) and it is also worth noting that we stayed in another Novotel in Lombok, which was fantastic and much more friendly.

I would not recommend staying here for your holiday.

Nice hotel however not as good as other Novotel

I requested for mount merapi view for which i was asked to pay more. This is not right if they have any such condition they should publish it. Furthrt on me insidting I was told that i am given the room with a view which was a lie.
