The Centrum hotel is old and dilapidated. It looks like they have not updated it since the 1970s. There are no facilities to speak of, not even a kettle to make tea. The internet is terrible.

I would not recommend staying here unless there is no alternative...which was my situation. This was the only hotel available at short notice and it cost me almost $300 which is daylight robbery for such a shabby hotel.

My visit to Hamburg was really short (3 nights) and I just wanted to explore the city a little. This hotel's location is very convenient. Altona, has a great feel and is worth exploring in its own right. I didn't have enough time to check out the neighbourhood, so I hope to be back to explore it more. The single room I stayed in was very clean and comfortable and even though it felt a bit basic, it fully met my expectations (a single solo traveller). I may have been a bit disappointed at having to pay 15 Euro per night to park my car at an off-site location, but I would still be happy to stay at this hotel again next time I visit Hamburg. Highly recommended.

When we got there the hotel was closed with a note on the door. No one answered our phone call when we tried to get in touch. We had prepaid for the room and sent Horels.com a message that we were still coming and we got no email letting us know that it would be closed. We had to quicjly find another hotel at short notice and payed again!

Very good value for money, good location, very good service and spotlessly clean. Wifi not the best, but didn't matter this time as we were there to see Hamburg. Heating control seemed to have no effect on the room temperature. Overall, I'd recommend staying.

A Great Hotel to Stay

I have been Staying in the Centrum Hotel Commerz Bhf Hamburg Altona for the Past 3 Years at Christmas Time and in every year I stayed I can only describe it as Perfect the Staff are Really Friendly and Helpful it is Really Clean and the Breakfast Buffet is quite Sophisticated and The breakfast Rooms are Really Tasteful and homely all in all it is like a Family Type Hotel and I can Really Recommend this to all Types of Traveller /Holiday Situation . The Hotel is only around 500 Metres from the Main Railway Station - Underground and Bus Station in Altona and there are also Great Shops and Restaurants Close by Too.

Booked two single rooms, which are small but clean. Great location just a short walk from the centre of Altona, prices are very good, staff are helpful and friendly. Rooms could be improved by better standard of bedding (especially pillows), but overall a great place to stay if you're in Hamburg for a weekend, are on a budget and want your own room.

We arrived on a Tuesday night and checked in to room 25 which was just to small for 2 people with 2 suitcases ...we couldn’t move around easily at all.
The next morning we were informed that we were able to move to room 35 which was much bigger and worked excellent.
Very comfortable .
The hotel has no elevator so make yourself ready to climb steps.
Breakfast was very nice and staff is extremely helpful.
Good WiFi .quiet neighborhood.easy access to trainstation .many choices of restaurants near by.

A good hotel, fair price, great location and decen

The hotel is located a 5 minute walk from the Altona metro. A day ticket for the central area which includes the airport for family of 5 is €12 !

We stayed in the hotel for 3 nights in April 2018. The cost was good by Hamburg standards.

It does not have air con and we found it rather hot sometimes and the controls are not very effective.

Our flat screen medium sized TV had one English news channel. The wifi worked well on all of our devices as did out roaming when out and about in Hamburg.

Facilities included a large king bed and a single, TV, fridge, chairs, wardrobe etc. There was a decent sized bathroom with an effective shower. Toilet, etc. A hair dryer was provided.

There was no lift.

The staff were generally friendly and helpful. I reported a broken light bulb but it was never repaired.

Breakfast was from 7 to 10 and a typical but good quality continental offering was available. Tea/coffee/juice, boiled eggs, some fruit, natural yogurt, selection of breads and cold meets, cereals, etc. Great.

All in all I would give them 9 out of 10 and would stay there again provided it was not at peak season as far as temperature was concerned.

Friendly budget hotel in a great area

For the price, this is a brililant hotel. Altona is a great area to stay in, and the hotel itself is clean with friendly staff. The breakfast was also really good.

Admittedly it's an old building and the furniture isn't the best etc, but this wasn't an issue for us and I would happily stay here again. Considering the price, it's probably the best place we've stayed in Hamburg so far.

Also, my partner left her engagement ring behind in the hotel and the staff were helpful enough to search the room for it and find it - thanks!

The hotel is very close to Altona station, less than 5 minutes walk and the same distance to the 'Mercado' shopping centre which has a good variety of shops and a lovely food market. My room was clean, comfortable and warm. It was on the 3rd floor and there is no lift but not a problem unless you're not good with stairs or have heavy luggage. Breakfast was good with plenty of choices. The price was reasonable for Hamburg and the staff friendly.Would definitely stay here again.

A very acceptable 3* hotel.

Within short walking distance of both the main railway station at Hamburg Altona and the town centre at Altoona with its restaurants and bars. The frequent trains to the centre of Hamburg and to the waterfront give easy access to the city. The hotel is basic. The room adequate but not large and the breakfast sufficient to start the day. There is no lift. But compared price wise to the hotels in the city this hotel offers excellent value for money. I would recommend it to friends.

Nice hotel very close to Altona station

Pros - Location wise this is a very good hotel with just few mins walk to main Altona station. This is only few stops from city centre and Central station so becomes very convinient to travel.
Good breakfast included.

Cons - No lift on the hotel, so have to carry all luggage until the 3rd floor where my room was.
Didnt get a room with master bed, so have to stay with 2 twin beds.

I stayed seven nights in a single room at the end of July. Though I requested a quiet room, the room I received was on the street side and it was very noisy. It was impossible to close the window since it was very hot. The second day I told the manager that I couldn't sleep due to the noise all night. He promised to move me to a quiet one soon as there was a vacancy. He was kind enough to move me to a double room without extra pay on the fourth night.

I stayed here before as I quite like to stay near Mercado shopping centre, and this place is only 5 min away from that, and 4 min away from the station. Staff is always nice and rooms are reasonably priced.

The place is getting on a bit and has a mixture of dated feeling and homely atmosphere. The place is not fashionable in anyway but is cozy. Serves good breakfast in a dining room made with glass block walls filled with impressively large house plants which makes you feel at home.

Room is always comfy and warm though they could do a bit more dusting on shelves etc. Tiny bathroom with plenty shower gel. Wifi is there but can be weak depending on the room location. There is NO lift. You leave room key at the reception which is open 24 hrs.

I had to find a hotel for one night as the plans have changed. This was an ideal solution. The price was very good, 25 UK POUNDS/32 euros for the night including breakfast. The room was small, clean, very basic but ok. The only problem it was very cold. Also the noise from the street can be heard even through the shut window. The breakfast was very good and staff friendly. The bathroom was very small but clean and a good shower. The localtion is very good, close to Altona Metro.

Practical accommodation, but not more

My wife and I stayed in this hotel for a long weekend. Knowing the area, we selected this hotel for it's practical location close to Altona train station, away enough from the city centre to escape the tourist crowds, but still located in a lively neighbourhood with shops and restaurants. Compared to the downtown hotels, this hotel is reasonably priced, though not cheap either. However, given the basic room equipment and size, the price seems even too high. The staff is friendly and the rooms are clean. The breakfast is simple but okay. The free wireless works stably and sufficiently fast for email and internet. Our warning when booking: The offered 'standard double room with one bed' turns out to become a 'preference' in the booking confirmation. We did not notice this and ended up with two single beds, and were not excited about it. Since the hotel was fully booked, no chance for room change. I still wonder whether the way the rooms are offered on the hotels.com web page is fully correct.

It has a bed and a bathroom. Not much more.

Doesn't get much more basic than this. It's a hotel room, plus a tiny bathroom with an ancient showerhead and curtain. Plenty of noise from cars passing by on the street below. Felt more like staying in a private room at a hostel than an actual hotel. I am unlikely to return.

This hotel is located in the trendy area of Hamburg called Altona, but it is pretty basic and room prices can be hugely over-inflated given the level of comfort offered. It is a little tired and almost verges towards being a hostel. However, there are few other options in this part of the city and so I have needed to use it several times, even though I would have preferred not to.

I have stayed in this Hotel for two days.

First start with the positive points:

The staff were very friendly and helpful
The breakfast was very basic but was good
Location of Hotel is just 2 min walking distance to Altona train station which makes it more convenient to reach all the attractions in Hamburg
The hotel price is quite cheap in compare with similar hotels in the area
The room was cleaned every day and the Hot water was always available

Important to know:
The size of single room is very very small ( don’t be surprised)
The WIFI in the room is almost not working and had very poor signal
The bathroom and toilet is in the size of 5 years kid

In overall, if you are traveling alone and planning to stay short in Hamburg and you need the simple room just for sleeping and having quick bath, by choosing this Hotel you will not be disappointed and the price is very reasonable.

Hotel is less than 5 min away from Altona station, nearby which is a decent shopping mall (Mercado) and many other shops.

Hotel itself was very basic, with warm and comfortable room, with minimum facility (shower gel/hand soap, towels). Shower was small but not excessively.

My room had fridge and bottle opener, which made me smile as I haven't seen those in any hotels in recent stay.

Breakfast was included and wasn't luxurious but more than enough, with bread, cereals, cold cuts, juice, tea and coffee.

The only downside is that hotel has front steps and no elevator, so if you have heavy luggage you need to drag it up. Oh, and the room door is not auto-lock, so you need to lock it when leaving.

Overall pleasant stay, and would go back there again.

OK for the money if you have to stay near Altona

Not much to write about the hotel. Everything is average. It's clean enough to stay for a couple of nights. Room was small but functional. Everything was beat up, even towels. Pillow was way too big for a twin bed. Flor are creaky and carpets are old.
WLAN and breakfast were included. I do not eat much in the morning so small selections of breakfast items was not a problem.
Staff was very friendly and I was able to communicate in English.

The most disgusting, dusty, mold infused room. The room smelled disgusting, old and like it hadn’t had fresh air some time. There was no staff at all - not when we checked in at night or in the morning when we left. I have never experienced a hotel of such low quality before. Luckily, we were only staying for one night. I believe it would be a serious health issue if you had to stay for several nights.

Wir waren für eine Nacht dort. Es war okay. Das Zimmer war klein, das Bad noch kleiner, aber es war alles darin was man brauchte. Das Bett war sehr weich, aber das ist persönliches empfinden. Das Bad wirkte abgewohnt, das Waschbecken hatte Macken, aber es war nur für eine Nacht. Praktisch ist die sehr nahe U Bahnstation, die ist etwa 2 Minuten entfernt. Auch in die City kommt man zu Fuß sehr, sehr schnell. Wir würden das Hotel für eine Nacht wieder buchen.

Die Zimmer wurden während 5tagigen Aufenthalts nicht ein einziges Mal gesäubert. Mülleimer wurden ebenfalls während dieser Zeit nicht geleert.

Das Zimmer war winzig . Das Bad Micro musste die Tür offen lassen wenn ich auf das WC bin.
Einzig das Personal war freundlich konnte das Zimmer er schon am Morgen beziehen.
