The first room #16 was totally unacceptable with damp and mold settling around the vent. Not at all what we were expecting. After complaining we were upgraded to the largest room in the hotel which is what we thought we would get in the first place. The best part of the experience was meeting the chef, Olivier Lataste who created sumptuous meals for us.

Stopover hotel

This was a stopover on our way back to the UK from Spain. We arrived quite late and so chose to grab a takeaway from the McDonalds opposite and eat in the room. We stayed as a couple with one small dog. The hotel is lovely and the receptionist was helpful. The room was small but adequate. The bed was comfy but the pillows were dreadful. The bathroom was well equipped but there was dust on the skirting and boxed in pipes which wasn’t nice. The toilet roll holder was also broken. All in all we would stay here again.

Lovely stay at Hotel Donibane

We had a very enjoyable stay in Hotel Donibane. Staff were friendly and professional. Rooms were small but clean and comfortable. Although for those staying in height of summer, there was no air con in the rooms. Facilities were very good and clean and we were really happy with the heated pool and small studio gym. It was a walkable distance to the town at 30mins each way. Would recommend!

Reasonable hotel for a short stay

We chose this hotel because the price was OK given how expensive nearby San Sebastian properties were. The hotel is a little old on the inside and rooms VERY small. Bed comfort was ok. The restaurant was nice and had good food. Overall, though, for the price it was a bit disappointing, particularly small room size.

We were exhausted & Thank you Hotels.com we were able to go online & book @ short notice, due to a problem on our journey from Southern Spain to Home in South West France. The welcome was exceptional, massive apologies as the restaurant was closed due to the time we arrived. Which was not a problem to us, as we just wanted to shower change & relax. The free bottles of water in the room were great, I went down to reception / bar & asked If I could buy some cold drinking water, nice gentleman said u have bottled water in your room, I said yes but its warm. 2 cold bottles given, no charge. Early start to return home, Great buffet breakfast from 7h, excellent, lovely staff, great room, great parking. Thank you Hotels.com & Hotel Donibane. We will be back

Very good convenient hotel.

Stayed overnight enroute to Spain.Ideal location for us as just off the motorway.We really like to pick properties with parking facilities and this hotel ticked all the boxes.Friendly staff, both reception and dining. Room clean and very comfortable and of a reasonable size.Despite the negative reviews regarding the food at this hotel we found our dining experience to be very good,with well prepared and presented food at a very reasonable price for France.We ate from the a la carte menu,starter and main plus drinks for around 70 euros,one could eat at a lower price when choosing the plate of the day menu.All in all for us a perfect stay.

Whilst travelling we stayed overnight at this hotel. Very quick and professional check-in room was satisfactory and the beds were very comfortable.
The bar & restaurant were very good and sitting in the lovely garden was a pleasure.

Great overnight stop between France and Spain

I booked this hotel as an overnight stop between France and the Santander ferry. It was ideal - just a couple of minutes off the motorway, and 20-30 minutes to walk into St Jean, depending on whether you follow the busy road or take the scenic route along the coastal walkway. Excellent restaurant, and very nice grounds. Wifi worked well. Some people call the rooms 'basic', and they aren't over elaborate, but I certainly had everything I needed. I'd definitely stay here again if wanting an overnight stop on this coast.

We have stayed in this hotel on a number of occasions. Everytime we go back they have made improvements to the hotel. It is in a good location, very easy to find, staff are excellent, restaurant is very good. The rooms are a little small but the rest of the package more than compensates.We will go back to this hotel again and again.

Had a great stay here, arrived late at night to a very friendly welcome. While the room was basic it was very clean and for once the heated towel rail in the bathroom worked, something that cannot be said for far more expensive hotels. A top location too, close to the motorway but far enough away not to be effected by traffic noise, definitely be staying here again!

Adequate for one night; not vacation spot.

My GPS couldn't find this hotel so I drove around for quite a while until I remembered that a reviewer mentioned that it was across the street from a McDonalds and a bakery. It is no where near the centre but is quite close to the highway. No elevator but the price was very reasonable for St Jean-de-Luz. Don't get excited about an Egg McMuffin for breakfast -- the McDonalds doesn't open till 10 a.m.! The room I had was quite small and even though I just stayed there last week, there is nothing memorable about the bedroom decor or shower.

A top class hotel in a great part of the world.

Hotel Donibane in St Jean De Luz is a top class hotel, and a lovely place to spend your holiday in. It is just outside the town centre, easily within walking distance, I walked into town and back most nights of my week long stay. If you prefer to stay in, there is a very good swimming pool, in a lovely garden setting, and a very good restaurant, where you have a choice of a meal, or you can help yourself to a buffet, with many choices. The rooms are reasonably well furnished, and always kept very clean. The best thing about this hotel though, which I think is the most important aspect of any hotel, is the quality of the staff, they are all very efficent, most speak English well, and all very helpful and very friendly, always with a smile on their face. I would certainly recommend this hotel to anybody who is planning to visit St Jean De Luz and its surrounding areas.

A modest, clean hotel at a very fair price. The desk staff were exceptionally welcoming and helpful, the breakfaqst good, and the pool and grounds attractive. Thw room was stark, however, and faced the parking lot, which was noisy at night with the window open. (The lobby and restauant were air conditioned, but not the rooms.) Easy acess to St Jean de Luz and Biarritz.

Lo único bueno del hotel es la limpieza y la zona de la piscina. Las habitaciones son muy pequeñas. el desayuno un desastre ( se acababa el pan, los huevos, leche de la maquina etc y no lo reponían). La gente de la recepción sólo hablaba francés ( ni inglés ni español) a excepción de una persona. No recomendable para vacaciones familiares

Dejaba la habitación a las 9.30 de la mañana y llegaba a las 15.30 y aun estaba sin hacer.
Me quisieron cobrar de más al irme.Menos mal que tenía guardada la reserva con el precio final.
Un día en el desayuno no había nada, ni platos, ni café, ni bollería.Se terminó todo y nadie reponía nada y los clientes no dábamos crédito.

Qualité de l'accueil, literie confortable, restaurant pour le dîner et super petit-déjeuner, tout dans ce séjour a été parfait.
Par ailleurs, le petit plus a été le fait de pouvoir procéder à la recharge de notre véhicule hybride sur des bornes mises gracieusement à la disposition de la clientèle.

Un oasis a las afueras de San Juan de Luz

El hotel está situado a las afueras de San Juan y muy cerca de salidas y entradas de autopista, lo que es de agradecer si se hacen etapas. Las habitaciones correctas y lo mejor el bar/restaurante /terraza con unos jardines preciosos, mucho césped y un verdadero huerto lleno de encanto. Aunque lo mejor de todo la atención del personal de recepción y de la « camarera » del servicio de desayuno.
La única pega que encontramos es la insonorización de las habitaciones: el ruido de las aspiraciones de aire de los baños y del aire acondicionado son un problema si se tiene el sueño ligero.
Tambien dispone de un amplio parking que cierran a medianoche.

Télécommande pas nettoyée en période covid s'est très anxiogène concernant la propreté du reste de la chambre

Quand j'ai voulu appeler la réception le téléphone ne fonctionnait pas

L'isolation des chambres est catastrophique, on entends tout ce qui se passe dans le couloir et les conversations téléphoniques de mon voisin

Et pour finir un spot extérieur qui éclaire la façade de l'hôtel était orienté pile sur la fenêtre, pile dans la direction de la tête de lit et donc malgré le rideau, la lumière passait bien évidemment en bas et sur les côtés.... Pas de soucis pour se situer dans la chambre en pleine nuit lumière éteinte.

Sans parler de la literie, matelas pas du tout confort, usé

L'hôtel est 3 étoiles, sauf la chambre, qui est trop sombre au rez-de-chaussée, donne sur une butte qui ne permet pas d'avoir une quelconque vue, n'a pas de clim, de mini frigo, de cafetière ou de bouilloire. Et aussi des problèmes avec la douche, où de l'eau bouillante sort aléatoirement. Donc prudence avec les enfants. Sinon la chambre est propre et de taille correcte. Réceptionniste super accueillante. Horaires de piscine top : 6 h à 22 h. Dommage que l'aspirateur de piscine ait été passé de 9 h à 10 h pendant notre séjour, car c'est l'heure où on a envie de se baigner. Très joli jardin.

Nous y étions pour revoir des amis qui habitent Bayonne.
L’accueil était très agréable bien que nous soyons arrivés avant l’heure.
Nous n’avons pas eu l’occasion de profiter des infrastrures de l’établissement.
Le personnel est très disponnible.

Agréable séjour.

2 nuits passées dans ce très bel hotel confortable, avec un beau jardin agréable et une piscine chauffée. Les chambres sont petites mais la réception nous a replacés très aimablement dans une chambre un peu plus grande avec WC séparé de la salle de bain. Nous avons apprécié. Le restaurant est très bien avec des plats soignés, copieux et très bons. Le buffet petit déjeuner est aussi très bien avec beaucoup de choix.
