Lovely Historic Hotel

This is a majestic old (but updated) hotel with excellent service. They gave us a tour of the facility and explained all the available services. The whirlpool, sauna, and steam room were all included in the price of the room. They even upgraded our room to ocean view! What incredible service at an incredible hotel.

Impressive building, right on the seafront, nice character. Really lovely staff and service. Nice decor in the rooms, furnished to a high standard, big beds, nice linen and many pillows!
We were kindly upgraded (bc Gold Hotels.com member?) to a sea view room, which was lovely. Despite the rain getting in and soaking the carpet by the French windows (just an upkeep issue).
The spa is really nice, vaulted ceilings, impressive reception area that you pass through. Good sauna and steam room. Not sure about the salt room, wasn't very warm? Pool area could do with a bit of TLC, starting to show wear and tear. There was some brown slime on the edge of the seats in the hammam 😬.
Decent bar area with good cocktail selection and snacks.
You pay for the location, prestige and building, but it's nice and the reception and spa staff were really lovely.

Gorgeous hotel on the waterfront - the most impressive in Saint Jean de Luz, with a nice (simple) spa. The staff are the highlight - effortlessly efficient & totally capable - from the (handsome) door men to the amazing receptionist, capable maids & talented masseuse.
The whole hotel was immaculately presented, including the room. My only disappointment was that the room was far too hot without the window open, and much too noisy with it open. So I didn’t sleep as well as I could have. This was a city facing room.

Fine for one night

We went because we had a wedding. The hotel is nice, but the room and especially the bathroom was tiny. I had no space to put my makeup bag, and we had to take turns brushing our teeth. The curtains are not blackout curtains so the sun comes in the oversized windows bright and early. The spa is nice enough but nothing special, just a pool really.

The hotel is slightly out of town, but close to St Charles which has a few shops and couple of good restaurants, staff very helpful especially the concierge who recommended the fab Le Bistro Gourmet. The atrium & bar is amazing and the rooms are very nicely done with lovely modern bathrooms with a fab walk in shower. The pool is quite small but there are plenty of sun beds, the fitness suite is extremely disappointing a dark & small room with air con water dripping onto the running machine, which was a concern & needs addressing as a H&S issue.

Right on the beach and the luxurious accommodations of the hotel. Our room was extremely comfortable, the bedding excellent quality, good shower, coffee and tea makers. We chose a room on the city side but could view the beach from the bathroom mini balcony. On the 2nd floor we had very little noise from the street. The air conditioning was extremely quiet and functional. The staff were all very helpful and friendly.

Lovely hotel, family room nice although they gave the children a quilt cover with blanket inside which slipped down inside (which they rectified on the 2nd night) I would exp cr when paying for a room 4 that the children get the same quality bedding it’s not a cheap room!! The aircon is centrally controlled and not that cold - they couldn’t rectify this. Bar and restaurant areas lovely and modern; spa / pool a bit tired in places but generally good. Overall I don’t think it offers value for money, way too expensive not to be perfect and for xcelmnt condition. The rooms slightly tired and next doors’ room service tray stayed outside from 8am until 10pm when I asked the staff to remove! Some of these are small points but not acceptable for the price paid.

Hotel has air conditioning but it is locked into a set position and cannot be adjusted. In our one day ( we
Were forced to abandon the hotel ) stay we were given three different rooms all of which were at least
80 degrees Fahrenheit. We received plenty of apologies from the staff and the manager and we were offered a fan to cool the room. NO WAY FIVE STAR HOTEL. If you book here make sure to pack an extra bathing suit to sleep in at night. Finally manager refunded our last nights stay and made us a last minute ( 10 PM at night ) reservation in the
Maria Cristina Hotel in San Sebastián. This hotel is five stars, maybe even six stars and guess what : it has air conditioning and it works as one would expect to work. Just to be clear about the above review it is being written by someone who is an experienced world traveler. Also the pool is in a dark basement, ugh !!!!!

An architectural delight for me, since I love design, colour, and structure. The moment one approaches the Grand Hotel Thalasso and Spa, one feels special just by the red carpeted stairs going towards the entrance. The doorman opens the entrance and a porter offers to take your luggage from you. Exactly what a 5 star hotel should begin with for each guest. A quick and clear explanation of the basic, important items are communicated. In addition, upon my call to the hotel advising of my arrival to station a taxi was waiting for me, thanks to the employee. The rooms are special, minimal decor, with rich, vibrant colours and extra attention to detail. For example, a box of macaroons awaits for one to enjoy; each day one is treated to chocolate. Complimentary tea and bottle of water to pair with your chocolates. Overall, the hotel facilities and spa are exceptionally clean, and kept looking new. Definitely a hotel I would consider staying in for my future travels.

Beautiful hotel on the beach, well-kept and clean. Excellent service! We had a problem upon arrival and the front desk manager, Olivier, handled it so well, we rearranged our plans and stayed two extra days. We really had a great stay in the hotel and in the area thanks to him!
Bed and pillows were comfortable and clean. There is also a pillow menu. Bathrooms are well equipped, the toilet is separate in some rooms, all rooms have a waterfall shower and a handheld (this one has good water pressure), showers are well-sized. Location is directly on the beach. Beachfront rooms have sliding doors allowing you to feel the ocean air. We lived waking up to the feel and sound of the ocean! The beach is a beautiful, soft sand beach. There was an aereal show when we were here and while the crowds were gathered elsewhere, we enjoyed it from the comfort of our room. Fantastic! The rooms are on the three floors above the lobby, except for four \"City\" rooms on the ground floor.
Concierge and staff will let you know all the happenings (and for a beautiful little town, there were a lot) and also provide information on nearby cities.
The town itself is lovely, but do visit Biarritz and San Sebastian if you have some time. You'll be glad you did.
Highly recommend this place!
Bonus note: there's a great wine shop in town called La Tour des Vins - the owner lived in Bordeaux for years.

Lovely sejour at St. Jean de Luz

Okay, it is winter at the beach but who cares? It is cold and windy but for a few hours a day it is sunny. The Grand Hotel Thalasse is perfect for us. We sit and watch the ocean from inside or outside and its location is prime on the beach. The staff is exceptional and we are so happy we chose this hotel. Last evening, we had the most delightful dinner at the restaurant here. My scallops were cooked perfectly as was my risotto! St. Jean de Luz is a very charming city with many pleasurable areas to walk in and explore.

A first class hotel!

A really nice hotel in a great city. Although it was too cold in April to go swimming, walking along the beach was fun since the hotel is right on the water. Our room was very clean, nice size and well-appointed. The staff at the front desk was very helpful. The location was also great because it was within walking distance of great dining and shopping. It is also close enough (about 30-40 minute drive) for a fun and highly recommended day trip to San Sebastian (the tapas capital of the world!). Although the hotel has an excellent looking spa, we didn't get to use it since we had full days scheduled. Would stay there again!

My stay was in general OK, great service at the front desk and concierge staff The main issue was the room AC not working at all - which forced me to open the windows to get some external air. Because of that the curtains remained open as well and a bright light (coming from the front of the Hotel) made my sleep impossible to happen. Additionally, the bath tube drain was closed and the mechanism to open was broken. As a consequence my morning shower inside a half tube with used water was not exactly the highlight of this trip.

Everything was perfectly fine although we found it odd that there was no full length mirror in the room (housekeeping brought a portable one promptly). Our room was quite large and comfortable. Hotel was modern and located off the promenade surrounding the sea, thus affording lovely views. A very nice outdoor patio for drinks or relaxing. Excellent location. We would definitely not consider this a five star property however - it was a very good four star.

It is ideally placed on the sea front behind the promenade of Saint Jean de Luz.
It is over 100 years old and has been modernised in a classically elegant French style. In one or two public areas there was some evidence of faded grandeur.
The facilities include a Thalasotherapy department (with multiple treatments available) and with adjacent indoor pool, sauna and steam room.
The restaurant provides true haute cuisine and an extensive wine list.

Nous avons passé un excellent séjour à Saint-Jean-de-Luz ! L’emplacement de l’hôtel est parfait, avec une vue splendide sur les plages. La chambre était spacieuse, décorée avec goût, et mention spéciale pour les rideaux et stores occultants : nous avons dormi comme des bébés ! Tout était très agréable et soigné.
Seul petit bémol : le self-parking, qui pourrait être amélioré pour être plus pratique. Mais cela n’a en rien gâché notre séjour, que nous avons adoré.

Notre séjour a été tout simplement parfait. Dès notre arrivée, nous avons été accueillis avec chaleur et professionnalisme.

Le service tout au long du séjour a été irréprochable : personnel attentif, réactif et toujours souriant. Chaque demande a été prise en compte rapidement.

Mention spéciale pour la directrice, qui est d’une gentillesse et d’un grand professionnalisme. Elle est présente, à l’écoute de ses clients et veille à ce que chaque détail soit parfait.

Le spa est un véritable havre de paix : les installations sont magnifiques, parfaitement entretenues, et ma praticienne est d’un professionnalisme remarquable. Chaque soin est un vrai moment de détente et de bien-être, réalisé avec douceur et expertise.

Not a Thalasso hotel. Was better few years ago

They advise as Thalasso, but it is not sea water. It is a pool with jets. The Spa area had better days… the Himalaya salt sauna and ice fountain not working. The pool water a bit cold, few places to rest and bad maintenance
In the rooms the pillows wore terrible, the tower rack not working in hole hotel ( so our swimming clothes and towels dont dry) and they turn of the air conditioner at night, just leave the fan, so in October I couldn’t sleep
I’ve stayed in this hotel before, and was much better.

Tres bon hôtel
En face de l ocean tout est parfait
Des vrais plus :
- emplacement face ocean
- le petit dejeuner extraordinaire en terrasse
- le spa avec piscine à remous chauffe haman…

Deux points à ameliorer
- la grotte de sel hs
- le restaurant. La jeune serveuse est charmante la nourriture bien mieux qu il y a deux ans. Tres bon dessert mais un point que j avais jamais vue on vous presente une premiere carte des vins manifestement pour « américains » avec des coefficients multiplicateurs au niveau des 3 etoiles parisiens
Il faut demander l autre carte pour avoir la totalite des propositions

Enfin un carton rouge :

Lors de mon sejour l alarme incendie se declenche et la a ma grande surprise le personnel du spa ne fait pas evacuer
Je leur demande
Reponse on sait pas il y a pas de responsable mais elle sonne souvent pour rien
Lunaire !
Quand une alarme se déclenche a plus forte raison quand on ne sait pas on fait evacuer
