Hotel looked pretty new and clean. You beed a car to access the town but is just 5 mins driving. Staff was AMAZING, a shout out to the guy that was at night and got a fan for us because in most hotels in France air conditioning dies not work until it’s officially summer. Breakfast was very good!

The staff were amazing. A special shout out to Louise at the front desk who went well above and beyond her duties to help us. The hotel was clean and comfortable. They assisted us in getting taxis to town, which are sometimes hard to come by. Overall an excellent stay and I highly recommend them.

Horrible stay!! Room didnt have a working A/c we had to change room in middle of the night but had the same issue there aswell.
House keeping staff taking things from your room and when asked if they found or have something they said nothing we have in possession.
This kind of behavior and service is not acceptable.

Very nice hotel with excellent facilities, pool etc.
Great breakfast and good dinner menu.
Our experience spoilt at dinner when the \" Canette\" ie duckling\" arrived overdone, dry, and inedible, instead of pink and moist. Returned the dish untouched. At check-out found that the untouched, returned dish was still charged for, but with a 30% reduction. Complained, but manager defended the dish ,aggressively, saying that was how they always served the dish---badly in my opinion. Conclusion--will not eat at this hotel chain in future.

The staff were really welcoming, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The service we received at the bar in the evening and at breakfast was great.

Very nice property in the outskirts of Amboise. You´ll need a car or taxi to get to the center, but we had a car, so it was very convenient, just 10´ away from city center. Nice, clean, big rooms, nice reception staff ready to help.

We stayed one night as part of a longer road trip. It was quite convenient for our needs, and the staff was friendly. The room was comfortable and clean. The breakfast buffet was okay but a little picked over by the time we ate at 7:30 am as there was a tour group or two staying at the hotel as well.

Very disappointing stay

On arrival after 7 hours in the car, hugely disappointed to be told by reception (very cheerily) that the restaurant was fully booked and there was no room service. No food anywhere, even at the bar. Luckily I had a bag of crisps in the car which I managed to turn into dinner. Reception could have mentioned eg ubereats or some other options (and I should have asked). Staff at the bar were responsive despite being very overworked. Huge gash in the desk in the room, wasn’t expecting that! Room was ok although the a/c hardly functioned. They say they have a/c but I wouldn’t agree. Swimming pool nice but crowded and small. If I had realised how isolated this hotel is, I would have gone elsewhere.

Giving Novotels a Miss From Now On

For the last 2 nights I was at Novotel Amboise - and regretted choosing it. The restaurant was closed, my room faced directly onto the pool and the outdoor dining area, so no sleep before midnight. The bed was comfortable but that was about it.
I had booked into the Orleans Novotel but they messaged me that they were under renovation - so the carpark, the bar, the swimming pool, the restaurant were all closed. Not sure what was left open, so moved to the other Novotel in Orleans South, miles from anywhere.
A mistake - the rooms are small and dark, the place is full of noisy families - right now 4 children are using the corridor outside my room as a racetrack while the parents look on benignly and wont do anything about it. The restaurant was full of squalling children.
I have cut my stay and am moving somewhere else.
Avoid at all costs.

Great hotel with a lovely pool (which was why we chose this place due to the hot weather) and some basic facilities for the kids (crazy golf and a couple of run down tennis courts). Only drawback is we also chose this place as it has aircon but it didn’t really work. Rooms were still around 24 degrees with aircon on!

The hotel wasn’t bad. It wasn’t great. It just was a night’s sleep.
There is NO laundry facility at the hotel, despite what is advertised on hotels. Com.
Check the weather before you get excited about the pool. The sun was shining in early August but the water was freezing. I don’t think there is a heater, But, the pool does have a nice view into the countryside’
The staff we encountered was slightly less than happy to assist.

Amenable hotel, average location to Amboise.

The hotel was pleasant enough, and the room was clean and a decent size. The view was disappointing, of the carpark, however the rear of the hotel had lovely views of the countryside, castles and hot air balloons. The reception staff were polite and helpful, however the barman was appalling! We went to the bar to order 2 bottles of beer. He was busy with another order, which was fine. However he did not acknowledge us for 5 minutes, when he finally did he spoke in very fast french so I have no idea what he said. Then we waited about 15 more minutes for him to finish the drinks order he was on and he asked us what we would like to drink. I ordered our drinks but then had to show him what I wanted on the menu as he seemed very unknowledgeable about the drinks the hotel was selling. Then he got one bottle out, then disappeared into the kitchen and got a bunch of mint out and starting cutting some lemons and limes (not for our drinks). Then he seemed to remember we were there and gave us one unopened beer and one glass, then asked us if we were drinking on the terrace or in the bar. We decided on the terrace, selecting the only table that wasn't piled high in empty dirty glasses. He then took another 10 minutes to bring out the beers. My partner then had to return my glass which was filthy. There was a lot of children running around so maybe this hotel is more suitable for families. The shower was a bit naff, but I was impressed with the complimentary bathroom toiletry set.

Great Hotel with wonderful amenities

We booked two rooms thru Travelocity. When we arrived, the hotel only had one reserved despite what Travelocity showed. They were \"booked\" yet somehow came up with another room for us which was great.

Hotel had wonderful amenities: mini golf, pool, pool table that were great for our kids.

Overrated, poor service, poor rooms

We stayed in this hotel in Aug 2016 having booked a so called \"superior\" room. Despite the \"superior price\" we ended up on the ground floor with a beautiful parking view and cars litterally outside our window. The room wasn't very clean, pretty small and make sure you're not more than 6ft if you want to have a shower. Staff was rude and unhelpful. The area is nice but the hotel is NOT walking distance to the city centre, unless you really like long walks... Worst value for money we've had in years.

It's next door to another hotel chain
It has an outdoor pool and a mini golf and a nice open restaurant come bar
It's a great place to centre yourself to see the chateau of the Loire valley as many are within an hours drive away

Great location, disappointing restaurant

We were travelling up through France so it was a very convenient stop-off and excellent location/views, though seemed to be overpriced for the services offered. Seemed to be a lot of children staying as it was a public holiday - bit noisy. Disappointing meal in the restaurant - they had run out of one of the starters on the set menu with very limited other options - the menu was heavy on salmon - didn't want it as both starter and main. The dessert (fruit crumble)was lukewarm and was supposed to come with a sorbet which was missing. Also at breakfast the 'hot' scrambled eggs and sausage were almost cold as the temperature of the food warmers hadn't been maintained - otherwise breakfast was fine with a decent choice.

A delight! Charm &luxury in a country watercolour

After bustling Rome, steep and narrow Positano, and the (smelly, but that's a different story) controlled chaos of Venice, Novatel Amboise was a much needed exhale. Spotlessly clean. Our room had a view over the valley including the Amboise palace. Bath robes and slippers laid out for us on arrival. Breakfast was excessively indulgent, if anything. We had dinner at the restaurant too, and the food was fresh and lovely. This was by far the best hotel of my holiday. If it had been warmer i would have gone for a swim. If we'd had more time at the hotel i would have liked to give the mini-golf a go also. My only disappointment was that we weren't there long. After Novatel we went back to Paris, and paid 2x the price for a hotel far less pleasant. Can't wait to come back again.

Worst Hotel Manager I have Ever Met

My wife and I were traveling through France for a 18 day holiday. She broke her foot in St Malo and required a cast to be placed on her foot. The Doctor in St Malo said he would have to see her in 4 days. Before she broke her foot we had reserved this hotel for 4 nights through Hotels.com and had paid in advance. We had also booked 4 other hotels through Hotels.com in 4 different cities. Due to the fact that we would have to be back in St. Malo in 4 days, we attempted to cancel these hotels stays. The 4 hotels were contacted by Hotels.com and they agreed to cancel our room and refund our money. The manager of Novotel Amboise was contacted and he refused to cancel our room. Since we could not afford to lose over $600 euros, we decided to drive to Amboise and stay there. It was a 3 1/2 hour drive from St. Malo to Amboise, and in 4 days we would have to drive 3 1/2 hours back to St. Malo to see the Doctor.
When we arrived at the hotel, I asked to speak to the manager. He was the most arrogant, condescending person I have ever dealt with. When I explained our situation, the only thing he would say is that we booked it through Hotels.com and not through the hotel so he would not change our reservation.
We have stayed in Novotels and Ibis hotels throughout Europe and Great Britain. we will never stay in another one if this is the way this chain of hotels deals with customers in need.

The facilities are nice and a good value for what you pay. Beds are very comfortable for the main bed but the sofa pullouts are a different story. The bathroom had a stench from the drains. This seems to be a fairly common in Europe. Overall good experience. Please note that this location is not within walking distance to the old town section of Amboise.

Cheap abut Not Without Problems

My family and I chose this hotel as a base for visiting chateaus for 3 nights in the Loire Valley.
Pros:
1. Pool - did not use
2. Ample parking
3. Wifi available in lobby.

Cons:
1. Bathroom ceiling leaking (see photos)
2. No Wifi in room (224). Regardless of what they tell you, no wifi reception for connection in room)
3. \"Manager not available\" is the front reception staff's motto. I tried on 3 separate occasions with 3 separate staff members to speak to the manager about the condition of the room but always got the standard answer. The leaking bathroom was \"evaluated by the technician\" but never fixed.
4. No extra toilet paper roll and not enough towels for the people in the room.
5. Did not replenish soap or shampoo during our stay. Had to keep asking housekeeping for these items.

We changed the room on the 3 rd night but only stayed in it for a few hours overnight as we checked out the next morning and left. This was my experience... A big letdown in an otherwise nice vacation.

Reasonably priced hotel on the border of Amboise

Good base to explore chateaux in the Loire valley if you came by car, the hotel is 5 min drive from Clos Luce (but not a walking distance). Excellent price - quality ratio. Rooms have flatscreen TV, very comfortable double beds with thick mattresses and expandable sofas (for kids or adults). Swimming pool and mini golf outside. Free parking. There is some family entertainment in the hotel, incl. Xbox and billiard table. Restaurant offers tasty food and good choice of breakfast. Rooms are simple but have everything a traveler needs for a stay over. Recommend to families with kids looking for reasonably priced accommodation in Loire valley.

Disappointed in the staff and location

My sons are I were biking the Loire Valley trail and this was the most expensive hotel we stayed in. Totally not worth it. It is far from town and up a very steep hill - we had to take a taxi into town for dinner and back. It is a \"resort\" like hotel with a swimming pool and lots of kids. There is nothing around it but fields. It is completely out of your way if you are biking the trail. The room itself was fine - clean, good beds and bathroom. View was of the parking lot. Wifi didn't work in the room. Staff was not accommodating - we asked for help with a taxi and I had to go back twice to get him to do it. Then they double charged me - said the room wasn't paid for but I had proof in my printout it was. Said no I had to pay again. When I got home Hotels.com was great - I had in fact paid and they straightened it all out and refunded my money. Very disappointed with this hotel and their staff.

Convenient location close to Amboise

We stayed here to visit the surrounding Loire Valley. Brilliant location because it is right in the middle of the area. Modern, bright spacious hotel with lots of space in the rooms. Very nice pool area and due to the location of the hotel on a hill above Amboise, it has lovely views down to the chateau at Amboise with large, spacious gardens and a little mini golf course for children.

Okay hotel close to Amboise (if you have a car!)

Some of the facilities at the hotel were somewhat tired and in need of maintenance (mini-golf course and pool table). However the pool was in excellent condition and the lobby was well maintained.

We did not access the restaurant during our visit due to the quality of local patisseries! The room size for a family of four was typical of all Novotel rooms - comfortable enough but not spacious.

Rooms were cleaned to high standard every day. We were also lucky enough to have a pleasing view of the Amboise Palace and it was great to be able to open our window fully to allow for natural ventilation.

The hotel is in a good location for visiting both Amboise which is a nice town with a chateau and many eating places and we also visited nearby Chenonceau. The hotel atmosphere was pleasant with facilities you expect of this kind of hotel including a pool, although it was chilly and could have been cleaner.

Hotel with attitude problems

Oh dear. How did this hotel get so many positive write-ups? Have they been gaming the review pages? The accor hotel group are good for cheap motorway stop-overs on the way through France, eg the Ibis Buget and Formula One chains. We have stayed in these many times before but this was our first experience in their posher \"four star\" Novotel chain. In truth the room was very similar to a budget Ibis, cheap and anonymous, with woodchip walls and a vague whiff of cleaning fluid everywhere. On our first night we ordered quite an expensive meal as room service which arrived with chips burnt to a cinder but stone cold. When I pointed this out to the guy who delivered them he shrugged as if already aware of the fact, and took them away without apology. This, we were to discover, was typical of the attitude of most of the staff (especially the more senior members) who seemed to have completely given up on any semblance of caring. Front desk staff were breathtakingly rude, treating simple, polite enquiries with churlishness, contempt and occasionally a blatant refusal to answer. Really weird.
The buffet breakfast had a good range of stuff, though the eggs and bacon ran out early and the coffee came out of a vending style machine and was poor.
On the plus side, the pool and gardens were well tended and attractive.The mini golf range, though crumbling away and costing 4 euros a game, was also fun. Next time we'll stick to Ibis budget, I think.

We enjoyed our stay at the Novotel Amboise. Room was very nice, hotel was clean, good location, restaurant was good and thought the buffet breakfast was excellent and a good start to our day. Close to many chateaus we wanted to explore in the Loire valley and we loved the village of Amboise. Quick drive to the downtown area, great Chateau inside and out, and wonderful village to explore.

Lovely hotel in beautiful town on the Loire

Four of us only stayed one night as we were catching a plane from Tours the following evening. The day of arrival visited the Leonardo da Vinci exhibition at Le Clos Luce which was excellent and really worth a visit. The day we were leaving we drove over to Chenonceau where the chateau is magical. The Novotel was excellent. Check in was effortless and the rooms large clean, and very well equipped with coffee etc. Had dinner that night at the restaurant which was excellent and good value. The only negative point was that the hotel was a bit out from the historic part of the town and a bit too far to walk. There were several car parks near the centre, and the one by the Clos Luce is very convenient for the town centre is very large and only charges 1 euro a day!

Very clean and a pool

We wanted to spend a few days in the Loire Valley, but we wanted to relax too. This hotel was very clean and just outside of Amboise. But it was on a hill and had a great view of the town. it also had a nice pool that we took advantage of each day. There are lots of tour buses that come there, but that was OK with us. We also had dinner at the restaurant and the food was beautifully presented and very tasty. Hotel staff was very accommodating.

Peaceful Hotel - handy for Loire region by car

This hotel is in a great setting - stunning views across the valley to Amboise and Loire river. Our family room had this view, but we visited in a quiet period. The room was clean and very comfortable - efficiently and effectively set up for family sharing. The infinity pool is set in lovely grounds, also overlooking the valley. Hotel staff told us the pool was 24oC, but felt more like 16oC - pretty icy experience in May. Peaceful setting - location is 5 minute drive or around 40 min walk into town of Amboise, which is on the Loire river, and has a good selection of restaurants. Amboise is central to the Loire region for exploring chateaux etc.

Comfortable accommodation ,easily accessed

A good sized room with a couch we found our 3night stay a positive one.Helpful staff who spoke english,and a well maintained property.We found it a good distance from all surrounding sites which we accessed via our own car.Onsite parking behind locked gates a big bonus for us.Good choice at the breakfast buffet.All round a good stay at a reasonable price.

Over night family stop over

We stopped over for one night on our way back from south west France. The hotel was in a good position and was very nice. The town with the castles is really lovely and we wished we were staying there longer. The staff were very nice and we would stay again if in the area.

Nice hotel, shame about the location

This is a nice hotel in terms of facilities, ie:pool, tennis, crazy golf, table tennis, bar, restaurant, but it is about a 20 minute walk downhill in to Amboise and obviously a longer walk back. Receptionist gave us a card from a local taxi firm that refused to answer their phone. If it hadn't been for a kind Frenchman in the bar we were in who insisted on driving us back (leaving his wife in the bar!), we would have had that long walk back. Lovely pool but absolutey freezing at 09.00 but lovely views from the patio. We had a room for three (a double bed and a sofa bed) and with luggage in the room, there was'nt room to swing a cat. Hotel is very clean but, if the meal we had was anything to go by, I cannot recommend the restaurant, although breakfast was OK. Probably wouldn't stay again.

A little gem outside of Amboise, with a view!

This Novotel is well maintained and comfortable, though not plush. The rooms are comfortable, with a modern bath and large flat-panel TV. I was surprised to see a ping pong table and miniature golf course along with the pool. The view of Amboise is magnificent. You will need a car since it is at the edge of the city. One oddity: I gave the desk a 50Euro AMEX Traveler's Check. They offered to accept it for the charge of about 32Euro, but would not give me any change. I don't think this was at all ethical.

The quality of service for a \"4-star\" hotel was sub par. The front desk staff was average in their helpfulness. The dining staff, however, should all take classes in customer service. The first night we decided to have dinner at the dining facility and were met with rudeness from the waiter. His attitude was that we were bothering him with work and just wanted to be done with us.That did not sit well with very tired travelers. The second encounter with the customer service lacking staff was when we were eating outside on the patio near the pool area and were reprimanded in a rude away from the staff that we were not allowed to do this. Apparently, eating on the outside patio is not permitted. However, there were no signs to the contrary and we were never advised by front desk that this was not permissible. Mind you we were the only people around the patio area and therefore, were not impeding on anyone else and it wasn't like we were having a full on buffet. For argument sake, if the rules did not permit food outside at the patio, there were many respectful ways of communicating that to a guest of the hotel.This particular staff member chose to be as rude as possible prompting a complaint to the front desk. Their response: here is the name and e-mail to the regional manager. Please inform him of your dissatisfaction. No immediate action was taken by the front desk staff. So will all this in mind, do not recommend this hotel due to horrible customer service.

Close to town, need car

Novatel was a good choice for us overall. You need a car or I suppose you could bike into town. Downhill into town so guess what back! Hotel ground were very nice, food good but we ate in town mostly. Would stay again. No disappointments
