The overall property is nice. It’s located approximately 15 minutes by foot to the town center. The big downside for us was the fact that WiFi was not working with any Apple devices. Being able to connect to WiFi is crucial these days and I hope the management can fix this problem for other incoming guests.

Although they advertise having air conditioning, it is only turned on part of the year. Individual room AC units were locked and not accessible to guests. When we asked about using the air conditioning, we were told to open the window and turn off the light so as not to attract the bugs! We arrived on a warm spring day, and would have appreciated the ability to cool the room off a bit as it got quite stuffy at night, even with the windows open. Open windows also meant flies inside the room. Beds were comfortable, and location is a 15 min walk to town.

This property has pretty grounds that were well maintained. Unfortunately the rooms were in need of updating. The beds were a hard foam mattress, there was mold on the bathroom walls. The doors to the room had a key lock that had to be locked from the inside making it a major safety hazard. No smoke detectors in room. Disappointing was that although there was an individual air conditioner unit and control, it was locked so it couldn’t be turned on. When I inquired with the manager, she said no, otherwise they would have to offer it to everyone, that it was turned on until summer. We were here on a warm May Day in a third floor room. She was very condescending and stated “open the window.” She seemed annoyed by us and didn’t want to help. A portable fan was finally put in our room after I asked if they had one. But again, it was not offered, and clear she didn’t really care. I might ad that the listing on Expedia as well as other sites states they have air conditioning. I would not stay here again or recommend it.

Staff really friendly and efficient. Breakfast was excellent; a full buffet which you could choose from but it was brought to your table to comply with social distancing rules.

The room was pleasant and the bathroom was modern. The hotel has secure parking available on the grounds. The breakfast buffet offered a variety of fresh items and was a good value. We walked from the hotel across the bridge over the river into the center of Amboise, which was very convenient to visit the incredible chateau overlooking the town. Parking in the town is very tough, even in November. Amboise is a good base to visit the chateaus along the Loire.

Overall, great. the only downside is that the walls were pretty thin, at least in the room that I stayed in. Had to tell the other guests to be quiet, which thankfully they did. If they had a crying baby, or were not agreeable to keeping their voices down, it would've been impossible to get sleep

We were greeted warmly by staff. Wonderful to have secure and free parking onsite. We were delighted to learn of their laundry service for 10 euro a bag. We dropped in the morning, visited the area and returned to find all washed and folded. We had a car so the location was great and much quieter than the other side of the river where most shops, cafes, etc were. The shower was small but good pressure. The room clean, comfortable and we rested well.

Convenient and pleasant hotel

The Hotel La Breche is a fairly elegant place with small rooms and a narrow staircase that makes it a little difficult to carry luggage upstairs. The staff was uniformly nice. Our room had a tiny balcony but others don’t. The bathroom was modern and they had especially nice towels. The bed was really comfortable. If you have to leave before or after hours, you are given a code in order to use the remotely operated parking gate. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed for lunch and dinner on both days of our visit so we cannot comment on it. Fortunately, Amboise has other nice restaurants and there is a small patisserie less than a block away that has pastries and sandwiches and opens at 7 a.m.

2 day stay, no elevator in building and very steep narrow stairs with luggage with no help. Windows open but smokers below fill room with smoke! 15-20 min walk to center of town for restaurants etc. Great bakery end of street. Parking free and off street very nice. Expensive restaurant on sure.

The owner Mary was lovely. The breakfast croissants were to die for. If you like stinky cheese you'll be in heaven. The room was satisfactory for one night. If it had been warmer we would have loved to sit in the very nice courtyard.

We stayed for one night on our way north from Provence (and visiting the excellent Leonardo da Vinci chateau/museum the next morning). The hotel was excellent in every way - very helpful staff, comfortable room, secure parking and above all a really superb breakfast with a lot of choice, delicious fruit, breads, cheeses, meat, scrambled eggs, home cured smoked salmon and more. I'd come back here again very happily - thank you!

However when checking out after we had our breakfast....the staff person insisted we would have to pay 5 E each for a take away coffee. 12 E for breakfast each and complaining about a takeaway coffee.....pretty cheap I’d say!

Cute hotel, good location, excellent restaurant!
La Breche is a lovely old homely hotel in a quiet area 2mins walk from the train station & a short-ish scenic walk to the centre of Amboise. Staff are very friendly and helpful, the restaurant fab - had one of our best French meals here - and there’s a lovely small garden to wander around in, too. We really enjoyed our stay there and thoroughly recommend it as a place to stay in Amboise!

Pros: The hotel has a private, gated parking lot for their guests which was essential for us as we were driving. Breakfast buffet had a wide selection and is very tasty. Only 10 mins walking to center of town so you’re close but not in the hustle and bustle of everything making it quiet and relaxing. They have a lovely garden and outdoor patio to sit and have some wine or coffee. The room was clean, has comfy beds, an electronic kettle to make some tea or instant ramen in our case ;) Free wi-fi was a plus and the speed was adequate.

Cons: Check in was quick and basic but not very informative (didn’t explain that we needed to make reservations for breakfast each day because we got a strange look when we tried to eat breakfast the day of check out although we did eat, no brief intro on what was around and about or how to get to center of town, or that our room was on the second floor and we had to lug our suitcases up small stairs two floors without any help; these little touches would have been appreciated). We met two receptionist and the madam was very friendly and kind but the young man could improve on his customer service, if I’m being picky. It was the little things really, like the look given when we tried to have breakfast or having to ask twice to make reservations for dinner at a nearby restaurant because the restaurant wasn’t open yet for dinner but he didn’t offer to call again when the restaurant was open, just a flat “the restaurant isn’t open yet”.

Isobel and her staff were so welcoming & personable that you felt immediately at home and pampered at the same time. They truly cared that your entire Loire Valley Experience was memorable. Hotel USA 5 min walk from the train and a 15 min walk from the Centre Ville across the river. Terrific value including the 12 € breakfast. Amazing French culinary experience at dinner. Definitely indulge yourself! Room is comfortable. Bathroom modern. Help provided with luggage up and down the stairs if desired. A memorable experience is every way!

Enjoyable hotel stay in Amboise

Following one of Rick Steves’ recommendations, we stayed at La Breche and were not disappointed. We liked the overall feel of staying at a refurbished old and historical building. The bedroom and bathroom were roomy with modern appointments. We enjoyed eating farm to table breakfast and dinner at the hotel. Staff was very friendly and made our stay a very pleasant and memorable one.

Lovely European Hotel.

Great choice in Amboise (unless you have trouble climbing stairs as there is no elevator)! Just across the river from the main tourist area and the Chateaus. Staff is extremely helpful. One night, when the restaurant was closed (closed Sunday and Monday) the front desk person (whose name escapes me) volunteered to make us a cheese plates. It was nicely presented with local cheeses, good bread and a little salad. Nice to have the parking lot. Good breakfast at a reasonable price. Just a nice, local hotel experience. We highly recommend it. Much better than a 2 star experience (but the star thing is based on government criteria--which by their nature cannot rate the staff).

My daughter and I stayed here for one night stopping over from driving from the south back to the UK. The quiet location yet easily walkable to the centre, secure parking and well reviewed restaurant were the factors in choosing this hotel. We were not disappointed. The hotel is very well maintained for its age with 'modern French' decor, it was clean and we were warmly welcomed on arrival. We had a twin room on the second floor (there is no lift). The room and bathroom were comfortable and clean.
We ate dinner at the hotel in the courtyard restaurant which is very pretty. Our food was delicious and professionally presented.
I would be happy to stay here again.

This small hotel is absolutely worth a visit. Comfortable well appointed room but where it really scores is in the standard of customer service - warm friendly staff and in the quality and presentation of its food. It was a very warm night when we visited and we ate outside in the lovely garden - a real feature of this hotel. Ample parking (free) and easy to find. We have now stayed three times and will definitely visit again.

Pleasant hotel, centrally located

This was a pleasant hotel. We had an attic/loft room - largest room we had on our trip. Nice garden available for sitting or dining/drinks. Hotel staff was extremely accommodating and courteous. Hotel location was just a quick walk (I mean only about 100 yards) from the railroad station, yet only a brisk walk across the bridge (about 1/2 mile or so) to get to downtown Amboise. We rented a car online in Amboise and used our stay here as home base for our exploration of several of the regional chateaux. Beautiful area. We walked down to the river and enjoyed a picnic while watching the locals play some pétanque, the local boules game similar to the Italian bocce game.

Hotel worth more points than it has.

The staff at this hotel worked hard to make my stay comfortable. They do not advertise their wonderful garden or great free parking. Drinks or dinner in the garden: Just delightful. The food was the BEST in all 3 weeks!

Elizabeth and Sophie in particular were helpful and I enjoyed my stay here more than at a few 5 star places on this 3 week trip.

Highly recommend it to all. It looks a bit far to the chateau, but eminently wallkable.

Wonderful Neighborhood Hotel and Restaurant

French hospitality at it's finest! Our luggage was so heavy from purchases made over the past two weeks, but, \"Not to worry, we will handle.\" And handle it they did. We stayed for two nights enjoying the sights and sounds of the neighborhood, including the nearby trains rushing past.
On the first day, room was made in the garden for a wonderful three course meal and on the second night they accommodated us for dinner at the last minute. Thank you again for that kindness, as we had the finest meals we have had in France! Your chef is an artist of the first quality and the staff the most accommodating and kind. We hope to return some day, many thanks.

A good base for Amboise

Hotel is over the river from Amboise, about 1 mile from center so it's best if you can walk there. The hotel does have parking but no lift. Lots of other chateaux around plus a weekly market on Sunday. Hotel staff very helpful.

Comfortable hotel close to the train station

We stayed for 2 nights and while not in the heart of Amboise, it is only a short 20 minute walk. The staff was wonderful and very helpful. The rooms and grounds are immaculate and well kept with a very pretty garden area. If you have a car, there is ample parking as well. Make sure that you try the restaurant as it is excellent and is actually highly rated in the area.

Great little hotel fantastic service

My wife and I booked a six night stay so that we could examine the Amboise area at our leisure without having to change hotels. Prior to arrival we contacted the hotel to ask for a garden view, to book a car park space and to make a reservation for dinner on our first night. The reply came within 24 hours and couldn't have been more polite and obliging. The hotel was as expected; a small 2 star hotel on the opposite side of the Loire to the Chateau. Our room was big enough, had all the usual including a safe with a well appointed ensuite. Two things mark this hotel as excellent. Firstly the quality of the service from all the staff which was without question some of the best we have ever come across and secondly the quality of the restaurant. Our meal on our first night decided the pattern for the rest of our stay and we used it on the four evenings it was open during our stay (closed Sunday evening and all day Monday). As diners we have eaten at a number of Michelin starred restaurants in the UK and the food at La Breche was consistently of this standard. The duck was just pink as was the lamb, the scallops were so good they needed a second visit and the starters and desserts were both beautiful to look at as they were to eat. The wine list was extensive and the staff were very helpful in helping to choose the right wine for the person. We have nothing but praise for the staff at La Breche and their welcome was something we will remember and judge other places by.

The room itself was quite tight but the bathroom made up for it. Was a little disappointed that when we arrived at 8:40 pm we couldn't get so much as a plate of cheese and/or bread even though the restaurant was supposed to be open until 9pm. The parking is good and they had no problem with us leaving our car there after we checked out, until we finished touring the town.

Perfect stay in Amboise

Outstanding and friendly staff at reception desk. Romoin is so engaging and speaks wonderful English as do the owners of this lovely hotel. Outstanding French cuisine at dinner. Really gourmet dinner and exquisite service from Romoin and Thomas!! Excellent breakfast. Perfect location as it is not in the hectic city center but a very easy and scenic 15-20 minute walk to castle and city center across the river. Hope to stay here and dine here again.

Very good hotel. Excellent attentive and helpful staff. Pleasant dining in the garden. Top marks except for a seriously over heated room because it was South facing in full sun. An electric fan thoughtfully part of the room facility simply stirred the stifling air around. The shutters were left open and the reason seemed to be that the curtains were mounted so near the window that the window would not open properly. It took time and considerable effort to secure the shutters next day. Tea making facility in room and excellent en suite made room good once shutters dealt with. Good car park but enjoy the short walk over two bridges to the centre of town.

We went in not knowing what to expect and were pleasantly surprised. The hotel was charming, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the room was neat, clean and very spacious. It had a kettle which was a big plus for us. The bathroom was very modern and nice.

Pleasant hotel in beautiful part of France

We stayed for 2 nights in La Breche in June. The hotel is situated north of the Loire river, which is a 10 minute walk across a bridge from the centre of Amboise. The walk is pleasant during the day although there are lots of bugs once the light fades of an evening. The room was simple but clean upon arrival, and also cleaned thoroughly each day. Our room only had a shower rather than a bath. The hotel also has a well rated restaurant which attracts a handful of people in the evening (for us, this was a small negative as the hotel carpark was full when we arrived, although on street parking is free anyway). The staff were also friendly and helpful.

Overall, the hotel was reasonable value for money and I would stay there again.

Great family-owned hotel in Amboise

We spent one night at La Breche after taking the train there from Paris Gare Austerlitz. Location is just a few minutes walk from the train station. It is located on the other side of the Loire River from the main section of town and from Amboise Castle but it is an easy and scenic 15 minute walk. This hotel is family owned and operated and the hosts could not have been more friendly, welcoming and helpful. There is a wonderful traditional French restaurant on the first floor of the hotel. The room was nothing special but it was comfortable and fine for one night. The friendliness of the owners more than made up for the deficiencies of the room.

2nd trip to La Breche

Had stayed here years ago & loved it.....always planned to go back. I was on the 2nd floor this time and it was very noisy. Could hear every step of people going up the stairs and the people walking around in the room above mine. The grounds are BEAUTIFUL!!!!! It's about a mile to walk downtown. I would probably stay in the downtown area if I go back to Amboise.

Just as advertised, the hotel is directly around the corner from the station. We arrived after dark and were greeted by name by the receptionist. Our room was on the top floor, a little tight but bed was large and comfy and bathroom was well equipped. Had a great meal in the restaurant on site. The walk into town is easy and scenic. Loved everything about Amboise! spent an afternoon having wine in the garden at the hotel. Great visit!

Great little hotel

This is a great little good value hotel. 200 metres from the Amboise train station and 15 minutes walk into Amboise CBD. Good English spoken by friendly and helpful staff. My wife and I stayed 5 nights, our room was recently & tastefully renovated, and was big enough to include our two large suitcases. There is an Aldi supermarket 100 meters away. There is no lift, so you have to be willing and able to carry your suitcases up the stairs. The compact shower alcove may be too tight for very large people. The meals at the gourmet restaurant in the hotel were very high quality. It fulfilled all our key requirements: safe, clean, good beds, English spoken, close to train, affordable.

Quiet location

Good size room (no.15) off the garden. Two double beds, good size shower room and separate toilet. TV but no English channels. Nice shady eating out area in the hotel garden. Hotel restaurant very good. Friendly & helpful staff. Only complaint was our room got very warm in the night and there is no electric fan.

Warm and friendly place to stay. Owners particularly helpful. 10 minute walk to city centre. Parking can be difficult but during our stay there was always parking outside the hotel. A draw back for some might be the absence of a lift to first and second floors.

Lovely family-run hotel in beautiful Amboise

We stayed in this hotel for a recent wedding. The hotel is less than five minutes walk from the railway station, and only ten minutes walk across the bridges from the gorgeous centre of Amboise. The hotel was a traditional, small, family-run hotel with very friendly staff. Excellent value for money.

The photos do not do this hotel justice. Our room was very clean, great size and very comfortable after a long day sightseeing.The only possible little complaint is dragging your luggage up the 2 flights of stairs.

Staff were excellent, we had diner i the garden which was perfect. Not sure how children would go. But couples a must.

Enjoyed our stay here.

Chose this hotel because close to train station. But you must walk a few miles to get to the main hub of attractions. If you are on a tight budget this hotel is ok. It was clean, but needs some upkeep.

Great little inn with charm at a great price

This is a great small inn with charm and updated convieniences. The staff are plesant and helpful. The rooms are extremly clean and comfortable with nicely done updates and attention paid to details to help a weary traveler rest. We were too busy to take time to enjoy the breakfast or dinner offerings, however from what I observed they would have been great traditional French fare. With our schedule we had to eat on the run and there is a great pastery shop just down the street less than a three minute walk. We would have loved to be able to spend more time at this pleasant property. If we have the opportunity to go back, we will definitely plan to stay at this hotel.

Best Hotel Customer Service

We stayed at La Breche for 5 days during our trip to the Loire Valley. We were tremendously impressed with the level of service offered there. The minute we walked through the door we were made to feel like home. Madame and Monsieur were extremely helpful and spoke excellent English. Our French was very limited and they were key in helping us rent a car, bike, hiring a taxi, etc etc etc. The location of the hotel was excellent, it was a block from the train station and a short walk across the bridge (~10 minutes) to the heart of Amboise. We think that they are currently remodeling their rooms. The room that we stayed in was a little bit older but it was very clean and met our needs. We would definitely recommend this quaint hotel in Amboise.

Excellent service from the English speaking host and hostess. Rooms were large, clean, and quiet. Dinner was delicious, so we ate there the second night as well. Breakfast buffet is adequate and worth the money.

(No elevator, which wasn't a problem for us.)

The owners and staff at the hotel were all very friendly and gave excellent service. The dinners are superb. . The location is good only 10 minutes walk to the Chateau Amboise, so avoiding difficulty in parking in the town centre. Would definitely stay there again.

Great food, nice owner & clean room

The owner of the hotel took care of us. He didn't speak too much English, but he was so patient with my broken French. My aunt and I stayed very comfortably in a bedroom with a twin and double bed. We slept with the windows open and had no problem with late night revelers, because the hotel is 10 minutes off the central part of the city. I would most definetly stay again if I find myself in Amboise or even the Loire Valley, because the city proved to be very centrally located for day excursions throught out the valley.

We are so happy we picked this hotel. The owner and his wife were very friendly, accommodating and helpful with tourist information. The hotel is located just a block away from the train station.

The hotel restaurant was cozy and cuisine was very delicious. The wine list also contains a good selection of local wines.

One of the nice features of this hotel is the outdoor patio and large garden area. The rooms could use a little updating, but they were spacious and very comfortable.

Excellent hotel to explore the Loire Valley from

We stayed one night in Amboise at La Breche in order to explore some chateaus in the Loire Valley. The hotel was an excellent all around choice and great value. While we had rented a car, it was easy to park nearby on the street, but the hotel is even more situated for those taking the train as the station is very close by. We decided to eat dinner at the restaurant and it was one of our better meals throuhout our two week trip in France. There is a continental breakfast (typical French breakfast, plus cereal and other items), free wifi, clean rooms and a great host (I'm forgetting his name!). It's about a 15 minute walk into the main area of Amboise.

A really nice little hotel, the owners are very kind and want to please...
The meal in the evening was excellent. Our room at the top of t he house was very cosy and the bed very comfortable with lovely bedding.
Hot shower . Felt bathroom could do with a bit of updating. A great place to stay just ouside the town across the river. Would stay again. Great value for money.

enjoyed our stay (2 days) our hosts were very helpful nothing was too much trouble. restaurant was excellent and standard of food very good and very good value. Our rooms had been updated. one with a new bathroom. Situated over the river from the town but only a 10 minute walk and better for parking which can be difficult in the town itself. would definately stay here again.

Extremely pleasant stay. Amazing dinner.
Comfortable room, if a little small. The shower was quite snug and not very easy to get in and out of. An anti-slip mat would have been useful.
All very clean and the air-conditioning was much appreciated. Service was excellent with friendly knowledgeable staff.
Safe on-site parking, and considering we were very close to the middle of town, everywhere was quiet!
Good value for money.
