I first visited the Chateau in 2003. It is in a charming location and there is much to like about it. I noticed the bathrooms have been refurbished since then and that was good, as was the food and the bed was very comfortable. However a few things need urgent attention, most notably the wifi, which was appalling. Using an unsecured network is not acceptable in this day and age and loading anything took forever. I wondered in fact if the wifi was the same setup as 22 years ago! The hotel also needs to provide a mini fridge in the rooms. Another guest asked about this too, not just as a mini bar but also for medication which needs to be kept cool. The carpet in the room was covered in flakes of paint around the window. I got the impression that just enough investment has been made to keep things going… but even with its historic charm they are going to have to do more than that to keep up with the times.

Beautiful property and helpful and friendly staff. I woke up each night around 2 am cause it was too warm and couldn't figure out how to use the AC, but I cool the room by opening the front door. But I never asked the front desk for help.
Other than that, everything was fantastic. Prepare to be amazed by the beauty of this place.

Room in the turret was compact but had a lovely view of the Loire.
Dinner was excellent and staff in the restaurant and hotel were attentive and charming but relaxed.

We greatly enjoyed our time in Amboise and staying at the Chateau de Pray. The staff is excellent, very friendly and helpful. Laura is a treasure! The property is everything you imagine it will be taking you back to the time of kings and queens. But yet, modernized enough for the comfort that we all want in today's times. The grounds are beautiful. We enjoyed a hike through the forest and the view of the Loire river is perfect. The Michelin star restaurant set in the limestone cave is wonderful as well. We traveled with our 9 year old son and we all had the best time ever. Will stay here again on our next trip to the valley.

Charming French Chateau

The chateau was in the perfect location to enjoy some of the magnificent chateaus nearby. We are a family with 4 teenagers and therefore stayed in 2 rooms in the outer building for 2 nights. While both rooms were comfortable, one room had an odd smell that never went away. We ate dinner the Michelin rated restaurant located on property and the meal was superb. The pool was very clean and enjoyable.

This is a must stay if you are in the area. Beautiful rooms. No lifts but they carried our luggage. My husband has trouble with stairs but they tried to accommodate us. Parking on prémisses easy but driveway difficult to get into. Restaurant excellent we dined there both nights. Staff were amazing. Have to drive to shops but an excellent stay.

Staying in a real chateau!

Who could resist staying in a real chateau with a swimming pool, a 5 start restaurant and great service? We loved everything about our stay, and the service was above and beyond. The only limitation for us is that we did not have a car and the chateau is located in a rural setting (horses nearby, etc.) but our hosts arranged to take us to the car rental agency where we had reserved a car earlier. for anyone traveling by car, there are really no drawbacks whatsoever.

Historic Grandeur at Chateau de Prey

We were greeted by Sofie when we arrived and she showed us the chateau ‘s facilities and was a great advertisement for the property warm and friendly the Chateau has great accommodation it was very comfortable and clean in wonderful surroundings. We took advantage of their swimming pool which was warm and inviting. Breakfast was very good also plenty of choice in the usual items one would expect however the only hot item was scrambled eggs.

We had drinks on the terrace which was relaxing after a day touring. The chateau is highly recommended.

Unique, independent and charming

I stayed at Château de Pray with my partner, six year old son and dog for two nights on our way back to London from a week in the Dordogne. What a fantastic way to end our holiday!

From the moment we arrived, the gentleman who greeted us at reception was charming and made our son feel at home. Even the dog had a personal welcome. We were given a tour of the hotel and grounds before being taken to our spacious family room (room 6) which occupies the full depth of the château, with a large, luxurious bathroom and views over the grounds.

Although we spent the days sightseeing (the hotel is well placed for lots of local attractions), we spent the early evening at the pool, which is spotless and surprisingly warm.

On our first night (our wedding anniversary) we dined in the restaurant - what a treat! The staff were all charming, friendly and helpful. The sommelier paired some very reasonably priced and delicious local wines with our food. The presentation and quality of the food was first class - a very memorable experience - very deserving of their Michelin star.

The hotel has a unique, independent charm, which is lacking from many establishments these days. I was truly sad to leave and will back again as soon as I can.

Beautiful chateau with comfortable rooms. My only frustration was trying to get served just drinks. The servers for the diners would not come serve guests who merely wanted to enjoy beverages by the beautiful gardens despite my repeatedly asking. So it appears that if you’re not having dinner you can’t come back to the hotel and relax in the grounds with a beverage. Otherwise it was great.

This is a historic castle and beautiful throughout. The pool area is also gorgeous. However, while some of the staff were excellent, others were less helpful. We were also unable to obtain any gluten-free bread in the restaurant at breakfast either day we were there, despite it being promised on the menu.

A very professional staff is working to take care of your needs here. The Chateau sits close to Amboise and makes a great base to explore local Chateau's. The only fault I found with my stay was the cost of breakfast. 19 euro's each. I recommend eating elsewhere. The restaurant was closed for the evening meal so I cannot comment on it.

Château de Pray was beautiful! The countryside setting was perfect. We were visiting Château de Chenonceau for the day and were delighted to find this Château within 15 minutes drive.

Breakfast was delicious, not included. Homemade croissants!

We dined at the hotel restaurant. The chef was highly skilled and the wait staff were excellent. The scallops were perfect!

Booked from Expedia for $ 235 per night. Definitely doesn’t cost that money. Needs a lot of updates at least new carpet.
$19 dollars breakfast didn’t fit the price. Better drive to the town and eat breakfast there.

My husband and I had a relaxing experience at the Cheateu de Pry. After touring and walking all day it was comforting to know we were coming back to a beautiful castle quiet castle to rest and enjoy a cup of coffee and tea in the late afternoon. Also, having the opportunity to swim in their large pool after a hot day of walking felt so good. I bought my castle ticket their at the hotel and that was a big plus.

I had booked a superior triple. The room we were shown to smelled dreadful, like a wet dog, the carpet was streaked, some of the furniture shoddy, the bathroom dated and unimpressive. We were moved to another room. This was smaller but at least it did not smell and was reasonably well presented. The bathroom was only ok. I would never stay here again, although I would happily visit Amboise again.

Feel like royalty!

You feel like royalty when you stay in this castle. The staff are friendly and warm, eager to see that you have a good time. The restaurant is beyond compare. The only two negatives are lots of stairs (it is an old castle!) and the typical European non-shower. These are far out-weighed by the beautiful surroundings and spectacular views. Memories to last a lifetime, but I can't wait to return!

Great Loire Valley Experience

A lovely time at this charming, ancient chateau, which served as an excellent base for exploring chateaus and wineries of the Loire valley. Every staff member with whom we interacted was exceptionally helpful. The Michelin-starred on-site restaurant was a memorable meal but was also a good value. We also enjoyed the breakfast, though that is somewhat pricey. Standard rooms are not huge, but are charming and have modern bathrooms (though a partition or curtain for the shower/bath would be a welcome addition. Nearby Amboise offers many good dining options.

The chateau was in a beautiful location near Amboise. It was very close to the city and therefor convenient to all the sites/restaurants and market. It was also a terrific location for driving to the famous chateaus in the surrounding towns. The hotel had a pool and beautiful grounds. We had booked a room in their guest house that I think would have given us more room. Probably because it was a less busy time, we instead were moved to the chateau. While our room was very beautiful, it was also very small. The shower was tiny and the w.c. was separate and hard to safely use at night because of it's location near a mantle that you could run into in the dark. The bed was very comfortable and the staff very pleasant. If it was warm enough to use the pool and the outside seating area, I think the price would have been justified. We ate one night at their restaurant and believe it to be highly over-rated.

A chateau experience in the land of chateaux

This hotel provides you with your very own 'chateau experience'. We might have had the best room: 4-poster bed with drapes (a real \"Princess and the Pea\" experience, in a good way), period furniture, fine armchairs, a Venetian style chandelier, luxe bathroom, etc. The hotel is about 300 - 400 yards from the River Loire and it would have been nice to have a view of the river from our room; but, no, we had a view of the courtyard and car park, and the occasional whiff of cooking from the kitchens below. However, it was delightful to sit at our oversized window with a glass of wine and enjoy the passage of time.

The location 3 miles east of Amboise, on the Loire, is very close to the D31 with good connections to the north and south. But the hotel stands alone and it's a long walk into Amboise. The approach to the hotel, via Rue du Cèdre, could really do with a make-over... rather scruffy.

We had constant rain so we use the hotel's large outdoor swimming pool or sit in the lovely gardens. Thankfully, the hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating, and spoke good English! One feature of the hotel is its restaurant, a quality venue for dinners that's open 5 nights a week, but across the courtyard. Breakfast is served inside the chateau and, while generous, we thought it a tad expensive given the hot service was only scrambled eggs... however, lovely breads and pastries.

Overall, very pleasant; not really good for kids, not quite as grand as it could have been.

Chateau de Pray is for those who want to experience French style old world. The town of Amboise, which is nearby, is very charming. Don't miss the restaurant, which is Michelin star and build partially into the limestone cave. The breakfast room is quite pleasant.I thought the grounds and garden could have been more manicured. The entrance and front lobby is more fitting of a small inn.

We booked this hotel after being badly let down by another hotel in the area and we were so pleased with it and rather happy we didn't go to the other place after all, the staff were welcoming even though we arrived very late due to the sat nav taking us a long way round we were then given a choice of rooms. The breakfast was really lovely and so much of it even though you pay extra for breakfast it is more than worth it, it sets you up for the day. we would certainly go here again and recommend it to others

Stay in a bit of history

Spent four nights while touring castles in the valley. Loved the charming atmosphere and only a very short drive to Amboise. Enjoyed one great dinner in the restaurant onsite and other more casual dinners in Amboise. We were traveling with another couple so for group social time we enjoyed using the pool cabana and library for visiting as the weather was a bit cool for the lovely patio area.

We stayed here for only one night while we were seeing some of the Normandy sites. Although we only had a small room in one of the towers, it was perfectly lovely. The biggest bonus was being in a beautiful chateau and feeling like being part of history, even if for only one night.

Great place to enjoy and relax

A little hard to find but worth the delay. Was met by the concierge who carried both bags to our room. No mean feat given it was up hill. The room was fantastic and provided a relaxing retreat after spending time in the Loire valley. Would recommend it to everyone.

Combine A Chateaux and Haute Cusine Experince

Excellent service, good quite room within a real chateaux experience so appreciate some limitations, good parking, location is very close to Amboise and the wine caves. The dining is superior in all respects, so if you desire a real first class experience spend a lovely two or more hours of haute cuisine.

Beautiful but a few problems...

The house is amazingly beautiful, well decorated, and well run. The dinner was one of the best we had in all of France. However, we had several problems:
There was a odor in our room we couldn't identify. The staff told us to leave a window open which we did for a bit but that didn't really help. Also, we didn't like being put on the 3rd floor when our friends were on the 2nd floor. We all booked the room 9 months earlier and thought we should have had rooms together. The worst thing was getting charged for breakfast when we didnt have breakfast. Same happened to our friends except they caught it before paying their bill.

Beautiful chateau with a lovely restaurant

My husband, mother, aunt and me stayed here for 3 nights in classic rooms on the top floor of the main building. Our expectations were high and we weren't disappointed. Everything was perfect. The staff were accommodating, the chateau grounds were immaculate (we especially loved the pool), the breakfasts we had each morning were fantastic with a great selection of local produce, and the meal we enjoyed at L'Orangerie was amazing and worth every cent. My husband, mother and aunt all had the lamb and all agreed it was the best lamb they'd ever had. I had the pigeon - also delectable - and the apple tart for dessert was to die for. The location of the chateau is also great - a 5 min drive from the bustling little town of Amboise which we loved. We hope to go back some day.

It was a special celebration and everything including acceptance email for our accommodation from maud and welcome and dinner reservation was perfect breakfast was very good too overall very memorable
