The hotel itself is nice, staff are friendly, pool area is nice, food Ok ( bit fancy for our tastes in the restaurant) but good quality. But the area is a 20- 30 min walk to the centre or Ortigia where you will find restaurants - most of the area you walk through isn’t particularly attractive. The archaeological park is very near ( walkable) and enjoyable to do. So although I have no faults with the hotel - the location wasn’t the best choice for us

Great location for exploring Syracuse, especially close to the archeological park. Mostly friendly staff and good service in the restaurant for dinner. The room is a decent size, clean and has a powerful shower. The breakfast had a good range of options but the 'hot' food was cold. Would have been good to have some powdered or long-life milk provided in the room for tea, instead of needing to request some from the bar.

Syracusa Hotel Review

The hotel is nice but is on the norther outskirts of the town in a mainly residential area. I was looking forward to using the gym and sauna but the gym was poorly stocked and the sauna could only be used as part of a spa package minimum of €40 per time so that was a let down and not in the description. Breakfast was very good with a range of choices and the 6th floor pool was nice to have for a late afternoon chill out after touring in the day.

WiFi is not good. I selected this hotel because it advertised high-speed internet which I needed for a business meeting. It was terrible- I could not open some necessary pages. I had Zoom with no camera to reduce bandwidth and the transmission was still “garbled” both ways.

Our room had bedbugs and I was bitten about 50 times. It's ruined our vacation. We spent all day doing expensive laundry rather than enjoying Syracuse. The hotel offered to change rooms but no compensation for the cost of the laundry, suffering or lost time. I'm likely going to have scars from this. It's truly awful. AVOID

Update: to rectify the situation they offered loyalty points for a future stay, which I refused. They gave me a refund of $115 instead, which was for 1 night, plus a couple of free meals at the hotel bar. Laundry cost 60E plus several hours in the heat. Not worth it.

Hotel appears relatively new. Room was clean and the bathroom spacious and well-appointed. There was limited free parking onsite, which was nice. Breakfast was excellent.

The hotel is a bit off centre - about a 30 minute walk to Ortigina - which can be good, because it was quiet, but also not excellent when it's really hot. The staff was generally helpful - except in one instance when the bathroom ran out of soap. We asked for it and it took them two days - out of a four day stay - to deliver it. Not the end of the world, but not impressive.

The Mercure hotel is quite modern and fairly comfortable. The staff was very helpful as well and there is a nice rooftop bar. It is pretty far from the attractive part of Siracusa, and getting there required a 20-30 minute walk. Not a huge impediment but something to consider.

The swimming pool looks bigger than in the picture but it was still pleasant to use after a very hot day sightseeing. Location good for Greek thaetre and Roman Amphitheatre, although they were both disappointing. Room was small. Restaurant on 6th floor was a bit chaotic at breakfast time but choice was ok. Free parking was a bonus. Reception staff very helpful. Disappointed in Syracuse but Ortigia was very nice.

I love to use spa and fitness in the hotel. It was great facilities! All staffs are super friendly helpful.
However I hate to say that the cleanness standard needs to be raised up! While we are staying, seems like they never vacuuming. Bit disappoint thing is bed sheets. I could find out someone hair or eyelashes... At least you can use sticky cleaner to clean couches and bed sheets and duvets.

A clean, efficiently run hotel with nice facilities and very friendly staff. Only quibble was the smoking policy. In the interests of hygiene and health of non-smokers, smoking should not be allowed in any part of the hotel where food is served. Eating and relaxing in the roof-top bar area was spoiled by the inconsiderate behaviour of smokers.

Very clean hotel with modern ,well appointed bathroom and comfortable bed. The room could have done with an extra chair in it though,a double room (only one). Polite ,friendly and helpful staff throughout.,Good buffet breakfast arrangement ,nice choice and very fair price. If you have your own transport there is plenty of parking around and about, if you don't, like us, then you have to be prepared to walk to see Ortiga (the old town) (busses did not seem to operate at a good frequency during daytime hours). There are good restaurants around and about but they take a bit of looking for, the Hotel's restaurant opens Monday to Thursday for evening meal which is good.No problem with this hotel at all ideal for 3-4 day break if you are moving around.

When we first checked in the two men at the counter continued a conversation before acknowledging us. Once they finally looked up and helped us they were helpful. THe hotel is across from the ruins but not much in the area. We like to walk so didn't mind walking to the sea and restaurants 30 minutes. Service was great. We ate late at the bar area and the staff was extremely friendly. The breakfast was included and was ok. It consisted mostly of pastries and no egg options. The pastries were very good and staff friendly.

The hotel is conveniently located if you are using a car. It is close to the main road connecting you to the highway, and also within walking distance to Ortigia and other sights in Siracusa. The walk to Ortigia is about 30 - 40 minutes (they will tell you 20, but don't believe it) to get into the center of the town, and it's not a difficult walk. Nearby you should visit the archaeological park which is right across the street (do it early in the morning), and at least one of the catacombs which are only a 5 minute walk away. And there is a gas station and supermarket within one block.

Breakfast was plentiful and good food, so you can fill up before you start your day. Everything was clean and worked very well. The room was very comfortable.

This hotel was perfect - friendly, helpful staff, generous and delicious breakfast, a good healthy walking distance from the center to work off the gelato and pasta. We would stay here again, definitely. The onsite garage parking was good and secure.

Good standard with comfortable room and excellent breakfast. Next to the archaelogical park and 20 minutes walk to Ortygia which are both beautiful. Hotel didn't offer car hire so arrange before you leave. Pool on the roof is an added bonus to relax at after a long day sight-seeing.

Great staff but facilities need improvement

I stayed here for ten days on holiday exploring Syracuse.

Some aspects of this hotel were excellent, namely: 1) The staff were all friendly and helpful; 2) the room was spotlessly clean; and 3) the air conditioning worked perfectly.

However, I have some complaints!

1) I had opted for a deal with breakfast included in the room rate. When I arrived, I was charged 10 euros a day extra for breakfast.

2) I had specifically selected this hotel because it appeared (from the grossly faked photo on the website) to have a proper swimming pool. When I arrived, it turned out to be not much more than a toddlers' paddling pool, only fit for a goldfish to manage any decent swimming.

3) The hotel doesn't offer a proper dinner menu, and since it's situated the other end of town from the tourist night life, there isn't much alternative choice.

But once again, full credit to the wonderful staff!

The hotel is very nice and the staff is very helpful. The pool is also great. The bed was very comfortable.

However, be aware that they will not refund money for any reason. We were in Sicily when wild fires took out the train route to the entire eastern board and this forced us to make some changes. I did not attempt to cancel ,my reservations, just move my three nights. So I booked a fourth and asked for the last to be cancelled when we arrived and they would not do it. Expedia takes its cut up front so they lose money if they accept a cancellation. And the ad says \"Free Cancellation.\" THIS IS NOT TRUE.

Also, the location: the hotel is a two minute walk to to the Archaeological Museum, which is excellent, and the archaeological park, which is also excellent. However, it is a twenty-five minute walk to Ortigia, the delightful old city, or one can take a bus for two euro, but those are not air conditioned and are packed on the weekends. Next time we will just stay in Ortigia. The new part of the city is devoid of charm and the restaurant in the hotel was the most expensive and least memorable meal we had the entire trip.

Spotless business class hotel with amazing staff

We chose this hotel as it is right in the middle of the archaeological area of Syracuse. It's away from the touristy Ortigia so there aren't as many restaurants close by, but breakfast is excellent and the hotel bar is no pricier than the local options. All the serving staff speak good English (our Italian is sparse) and are attentive/friendly/helpful/hard-working. We spent many evenings on the roof with the pool and bar. This was our first trip abroad so we were somewhat daunted but everyone was really friendly, helpful and understanding.

Sicily is an amazing place, and Syracuse doubly so.

We had a couple of good evening meals there but the evening menu is quite limited. The hotel is easy to find and well situated near the Archaeological Park and only a 10 minute walk from the main part of town. Parking was free but occasionally full. Small swimming pool on the roof and a health spa underground (which we didn't visit as not included). All in all we enjoyed our stay.

Easy in and out

Access to city sites by bus and walking makes this a great location. Driving in and out of the Ciy because of the location is very easy. So drive to the city park your car free and have a great time.

Good hotel if you are prepared to trek a bit.

Nice hotel, good condition overall, room was clean and cool. Thought it was a bit far out of Ortigia (bit of a trek on foot, need a taxi or a shuttle bus if you can figure out which one). Pool was just OK to cool off. Hotel is on the right side of town for the Greek Theatre, and oarking was very tight but a relief to have.

Nice hotel, well located close to the main atractions
