Breakfast seemed like something from Aldi/Lidl. Room was in poor condition, especially bathroom. Air conditioning could with updating, either cold or over heating. As a result we got very little sleep. Best thing going for this hotel was the pool.

Rooms need a refurb. Bad or non existent sound proofing between rooms.
Woken early by staff with bags that were not mine. Broken plug in wash basin.
No tea or coffee facilities in room and no free bottle of mineral water. Not what you expect of 4 star hotel.

Good break

No coffee in rooms. You do have a fridge. You are 2 minutes from the sea but no where to swim. Hotel pool is lovely but drinks are expensive. I would recommend a sort break here. PS the breakfast is lovely too.

Lovely room with balcony and sea view. Amazing swimming pool. Very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely grounds. Easy to get into and back from Syracuse using the 105 bus.
Walking distance to archeological museum and San Giovanni catacombs.

We loved the Villa Politi, a grand hotel with a very interesting history. The guest areas are spacious and the pool beautiful. The only concern we had, the dinner service was a little slow due to large tour groups dining, the staff were under pressure. We would have also appreciated tea/coffee making facilities in our room. We would definitely stay there again.

Our time was great except the airconditioning is set by management and sleep waa horrible as the room temperature was set at 30 degrees C and even after much complaining about our lack of control were we exhausted after 2 nights with the front door amd windows needed to be left open.

We loved our 2-night stay at the Grand Hotel Villa Politi in Syracuse! The property is very historic, having been established in 1862, and it is literally built adjacent to one of the archeological sites that Syracuse is known for. The staff was so welcoming and helpful, the Winston Churchill Bar was charming (and they have a daily happy hour with complimentary appetizers), and the breakfast buffet offered a nice variety of choices. There's a large, very well-maintained outdoor pool and deck area, which was a highlight of my visit. The room was very comfortable and well appointed in terms of linens, a refrigerator/mini bar, plenty of electrical outlets, and a functional window. I wish there had been conditioner in the shower, along with shampoo and body wash, but other than that, our stay was excellent.

Very beautiful old hotel, elegant. Pool is fantastic! Room was lovely but the front desk controls the air conditioning and we froze. The electricity went out multiple times and you need your room card to activate it. Other than that, excellent breakfast, great parking.

We did have a very big room but the air conditioning made us quite sick each night. We ended up having to open the windows, which in August is quite hot.

The pool was large and plenty of room and the included breakfast was very good.

The location is about 2km from the island of Otigia, which isn’t a difficult walk down but a very sweaty one coming back.

Elegant 19th century hotel

An old elegant hotel with great service and a modern pool complex. Breakfast was heavy on pastries and sweets, not my taste but some prefer that. Location is too far to walk to the old city but makes up for that with a nice pool. A nice addition in the heat of July. I would stay again. Free and easy parking as well if you have a car.

This hotel was lovely we were delighted with our room 102 fabulous with 2 balconies, staff were extremely friendly and helpful, was a real treat.

Only downside is its a good 20min walk to old town and 20 Euros taxi back at night. We felt the hotel was worth the walk as pool area was great

Terrible hotel in every respect. Very stingy with everything from sheets to pillows to anything that would make a stay acceptable. No complimentary anything. Coffee was terrible. Breakfast disgusting. Yet they claim 4 stars. It is a one to two star hotel at best. Oh and they charge for pool towels.

Overnight following a cruise

Loved the grandeur of this hotel, particularly the public rooms. The air conditioning in our bedroom didn't seem to do a lot unfortunately, but the room was clean and the buffet breakfast had a good choice of food and drinks. The pool wasn't available when we stayed as they were having building work done in readiness for high season, but it looked like it will be a lovely area when complete. We would stay there again!

It is a lovely property with a nice amount of history.

The staff were fairly arrogant and seemed to feel that we were lucky to be able to stay there. We asked for a simple kettle so we could make a morning cup of tea (we were surprised that the rooms don't have kettles) and the response at reception was one of shock; we could come downstairs and buy cups of tea. We were made to feel that we had asked a very inappropriate question!

Lovely clean sheets, I really rate the cleanliness of this hotel as I have a dust allergy. A multitude of gluten free options for breakfast, nice staff. I extended my stay by an extra 2 nights. It's a bit of a walk into Ortigia but good to get your steps in with so much fantastic food on offer!

There is an elegance of a past era about the place and it is well maintained. The breakfasts were a highlight with a wide range of options, well prepared and arranged. Our room had a small balcony with a view, was well appointed and comfortable.
The negatives were a tiny shower cubicle in the bathroom and the sound insulation from neighbouring rooms was not good.

The property is beautiful, excellent pool and the bartender is nice. English was not a barrier, as there was plenty of English speaking staff members.
The \"Private beach\" is a must.it's basically a scaffold built ver the ocean with drink/snack service . From the\"deck\" you can step into the ocean swimming pool... very cool.

Good hotel. We had 3 days at this location and I picked the propery based on the private beach advertised on the website. Given it was 30C in mid June we didn’t expect that the beach will be closed. This was disappointing- they only open thier private beach in August but show it in all hotel photos- long walk to all other attractions. We had to taxi everywhere. Would not stay there again based on that.

We chose this hotel because we have friends who live nearby and because it looked interesting. It’s definitely faded grandeur, large public spaces, good sized bedroom, outdoor seating and a lovely pool and everything worked.The downside was the breakfast, great the first day but then seemed to have a limited supply of fresh fruit etc. The coffee was unspeakably awful. The walk into the centre of Ortiga is about 25 mins and around 15 euros for a taxi but in the day the red tour bus, 10 euros, hop on hop off, stops very close to the hotel and opposite a great little restaurant

The hotel is located close to some of the major attractions...the archeological museum and the Greek theater are not far away. The rooms are comfortable and well maintained. There is an excellent cable service that includes CNN and the BBC. The breakfasts are superb. The management is friendly and attentive. The hotel has a certain classic charm. I have stayed here many times and am happy to recommend this hotel.

Cratered to group meetings at the experience of individual guests. Happy to recommend a restaurant nearby... always the same one.
Shower clogged and almost flooded the bedroom.
If you have a car... just drive to Ortega to eat.

Grand Hotel in the old style.
Good rooms. Good Air Con.
Very good pool.
Breakfast was good if you ignored the very poor cold bacon and eggs.
Evening meal was ok if rather unimaginative.
Bar seating area was tiny and without character.
Staff were very efficient and friendly.
Hotel is located too far from Oritigia which is where everything is.Theres next to nothing in Syracuse.
80pc of food on Sicily is fish.
It is insanely hot on Sicily.
Syracuse has a mad, chaotic traffic system add to that mad, chaotic Italian drivers and you permanently have life threatening chaos.
Valetta on Malta is better.

This is a beautiful old villa overlooking ancient ruins but right in town. There was a wedfing at the location and the michrophoned happenings were loud into my room. They changed my room to the other side if the hotel, Graciously. The breakfast was above average and they warned up my keftiver pizza for me! Beautiful property. Comfy bed. Nice sized room with balcony.

The usage of one time use plastic needs to end

- The usage of “one time usage” plastic was mind blowing. We have never experienced anything like it. The plates, espresso cups, glasses, even for the breakfast. It is Sicily, I know. But for a hotel at this level it’s unacceptable. The amount of big bags with plastic containers for trash pick up was astonishing.
The first Beach Front picture they publish is not from their property, it’s just a “beach place” they recommend.
+ Very friendly and helpful staff, old and historic hotel even though the interior is getting a bit old. Location is also pretty good.

It is a very nice hotel and the staff were great. You can take the sun either in the morning or in the afternoon. Not that close to Ortigia Island so be prepared to walk. There are taxis though. No advisable to drive into the island as parking can be a nightmare

The staff in the restaurant were a highlight at this hotel, very welcoming and professional. The restaurant was extremely accommodating with a meal we had at dinner and again the service was outstanding. The front desk staff were good apart from one lady on reception who could do with some customer service training from the restaurant staff.

Not only a historical landmark, a beautiful, serene. It is authentic without being pretentious, well priced for one of the best hotels in the region, would recommend anyone go here, with one caveat, that you have a car to take you in to the city center.
Churchill was right in praising this amazing hotel, which leaves one with an urge to return.

All the staff were very friendly. The bathroom was spacious and clean and the bed was very comfortable. Loved the pool and the fact that the hotel wasn’t in the middle of town. I had a very pleasant stay. The only thing I would change would be the aircon which could have been colder.

The hotel is from a bygone era and so is a little tired looking in places. I felt this added to the charm and despite it, the place was kept incredibly clean. Above all, the staff are fantastic. They were so helpful and welcoming they really made our stay.

You will need a car or taxis to get around as there's not much in the area.
