Breakfast had plenty of choice. Room was clean and comfortable. Lobby area was modern and welcoming.
Sky bar restaurant food was good but small portions. Service started well but was slow after main course.
Pool was cold, steam room not working, sauna was lovely. Gym well equipped.

Unfortunately, this is not a 5‑star hotel experience

I’m really disappointed to be spending 7 nights in what I believed would be a 5‑star hotel. We accidentally booked the wrong “Grand Hotel” — it turns out there are two with very similar names — and the difference in quality is shocking.

Main issues:

• Extremely hard beds, making it difficult to sleep comfortably
• A strong sewage smell in our room, completely unacceptable for any hotel, let alone one claiming 5 stars
• Very poor breakfast variety, far below the expected standard
• The hotel is old, dirty, and clearly in need of major refurbishment.
• Non‑functioning air conditioning, resulting in extremely poor air quality in the room
• We had to sleep with the door open just to breathe, which meant listening to all the traffic noise outside throughout the night

Overall: This hotel does not meet 5‑star standards in comfort, cleanliness, maintenance, or service. A very disappointing experience.

I’ve stayed at this hotel several times in the past, but this visit was an absolute disappointment. It’s clear that the property has aged significantly and that maintenance is no longer a priority.

From the moment I arrived, the issues started. The shower was broken, the magnifying makeup mirror light didn’t work because the bulb was burnt out, and the bathroom trash bin was damaged and dirty. The pedal you step on to lift the lid was broken, leaving only a sharp metal piece exposed — something you could easily injure yourself on.

Housekeeping was another major problem. From day one, the shower gel dispenser had barely a finger of product left, and for two days no one refilled it. When I finally asked the housekeeper about it, she told me she had no product because the bottles had recently been changed, and that I should go to the front desk myself to request a refill. This is completely unacceptable for a supposed 5-star hotel.

Throughout my entire 7-night stay, the room was never vacuumed even once. I had dropped some cookie crumbs the first day, and I watched them remain on the floor for a full week — being stepped on every day.

Another inconvenience: the front desk never had change when I needed to break larger bills. Again, something that should not be an issue in a hotel claiming 5-star standards.And when it was time to leave, there was no bellboy available to help with luggage — not to bring the bags from the room, not even to assist with loading them into a taxi

Bleach the smelly shower curtain. Improve the grounds. The entrance drive needs areas of kerb stones and gravel, redone. Get an English language (not Al Jazeera) rolling news channel on the tv system. Offer pancakes at breakfast since there is a chef already on-hand to make omelettes.

The room was clean with a comfortable bed. I had a balcony along with a nice view. The hotel lobby was nice and staff were helpful. What i didnt like was the tub in the bathroom as it was deep and high which made it difficult to shower. I slipped when climbing out. Also the checkout process was terrible and I had to pull out my credit card again to complete payment, sign a document and then was able to leave. Why isnt this done up front when you are obviously in a rush at checkout if you are headed to the airport. At 4am, i was not in the mood to go thru all of this and I just wanted to drop the key off and leave. Please improve the checkout process.

First our towels had rust spots on them. restaurant on main floor was closed and the Bar & Restaurant on 21st floor had very expensive prices. We had to go out in the rain to find another restaurant to have dinner. Swimming pool closed at 9.00pm and at 8.30 we were told not to enter bc closing time is soon.
Very low on the grade...I would suggest to be coted as 3.

This is not a 5-star hotel any more, it changed ownership five years ago and has gone downhill. It used to be named the Intercontinental Hotel but now the Grand Intercontinental Hotel Bucaresti is a different hotel, a few blocks away (across the street from the Novotel). Be aware of this. We loved the Grand Intercontinental Hotel Bucaresti, but this Grand Hotel is not the same standard. No hot water for the shower. TV did not function, no channels connected, concierge could not find the problem. Musty oldish smell in the hallways after leaving the gorgeous lobby, felt like false advertising. Small balcony overlooking the Parliament and Old Town was advertised, but was locked, inaccessible to use once we got to the room. Dark lighting, we were actually depressed, why not have a bright atmosphere in the room? Toilet-paper holder was broken so the roll slid off onto the floor each time when using the toilet. Breakfast was okay but not 5-star, it was in a big open conference room, not a nice dining area. This is a 4-star or 3-star hotel now.

My stay was good. The property is starting to show its age. The lobby furniture needs to be cleaned or updated. Room was good only issue is you can take a shower without getting water all over the floor the sliding shower door needs caulk under the frame.
But every thing else was good. Love the Netflix option on the TV

Pleasant 4 nights trip to Romainia. A little disappointed that the pool/spa/sauna were closed for refurbishment! However, the hotel was close to the Old Town, shops, restaurants and metro/buses for convenience travel around the city and further a field.

Check-in was excellent and fast and they even upgraded our room.
Comfortable bed and nice bedding, open balcony.
The hotel is in a great location and very central, close to the old town and close to the metro.
The room is mostly comfortable but the bathtub is very high and difficult to get into.
Even though we are a couple, for 3 nights they left us only one towel and on the fourth night they left no towels at all, every night I called the lobby to get more towels and it was very annoying.
The heating didn't work even though it was 6 degrees outside because the hotel switched to summer mode - the room was freezing.

Lovely hotel. And very friendly attentive staff. Comfy and clean, and absolutely nothing to improve on my side. My only “complaint” was that I arrived very late, was jet lagged and hungry, checked into my room, and read the folder provided that said room service as available 24/7, so had a shower, washed my hair first before ordering. Picked up the phone to order around 23:20 to be told it’s no longer available and I would need to use an app such as bolt food to order. This was a little frustrating to me as otherwise I would have ordered earlier. So they should update their folders in the rooms. But other than that? It was a lovely stay!

Everything looks amazing at first glance, when you start taking a closer look, you notice the issues. For instance, the bathroom door in my room was chipped and peeling at the bottom, there was a wall outlet that had its cover hanging by a screw, and the weather stripping on the balcony door was damaged so that you can hear the wind whistle and the air seeps in.

The restaurant was fantastic though, which is why I have it at 3 stars. The manager there took the time to chat with me while waiting for my meal. Whereas the receptionists weren’t very helpful. When I checked out a day early and asked for a refund for the unused day, they didn’t even ask why I wasn’t happy with the accommodations.

We had a room on the 17th floor with a spectacular view from a large balcony. The hotel is within walking distance to Old Town with its many restaurants and bakeries. The staff is very friendly. Room clean. Only improvement for me would be breakfast. The eggs and such were cold.

This used to be a real lovely hotel. But I feel the standard of the property went considerably down. The breakfast include few non dairy vegan options. The coffee was terrible. Staff was friendly however. No vallet parking or anyone available to help with luggage. Missed this personal touch. Rooms were lovely and I absolutely loved seeing a fresh Apple, peach and mandarins in the room. The fruits were fresh and welcoming. I was impressed. Otherwise very friendly staff. Will come again.

The staff have been incredible, the service was exceptional. Fantastic facilities but some things were a bit older than you would expect at a 5 star hotel for example finding a plug to use the clothes iron was a bit hard but got there in the end. Just minor minor things apart from that all was great.

Over all we liked the hotel.
The breakfast was exelent.
I want to mention mr. Andrei the waiter for his good recommendations.
Also I want to mention Miss Ambra and Mr Eduard for all the assistance and information they gave us when ever we asked them. You were blest with good stuf.
Some little remarks:
1. The Grand Hotel Bucarest is not a new one, you have to intall more Shawers instaid
baths because it is hard and dangerous to get in.
2. The balcony is close, you can put there some planters with flowers...

The hotel is centrally located. Easy to get to the old town by foot.
The staff is friendly especially in the restaurant.
Breakfast between 7 am to 11 am permits you rest till later morning.

Before checking in on 5-16, was told I would also have reservations for 19-22 and 23-24. Just needed to finalize at my convenience. When I went to finalize it a few hours later, I was informed it was not possible, all rooms were booked for those dates. Met with manager who worked it out for 19-21 and found us other lodging for 21-24. But we spent another day changing locations.

A hotel that nobody cares about

This is not a five star hotel. One staff member working in the lobby, two elevators broken, the jacuzzi in the pool area out of order, the coffe cups in the room was dirty, electricity outlets loose, hair dryer in the bath room was falling apart, the shower doors were falling off, it looked like someone had been trying to scratch their way through the bath room doors. Breakfast mediocre. And that’s only part of what is wrong with this hotel.
On the plus side the bed was very comfortable, the view amazing and the location very good.

Helpful front desk staff, room cleaning missed a few items, failed to refill Kleenex box, tea bags and shampoo and bath gel, soap, etc. shower door leaked badly, whole floor in front of bathtub got all wet! Handheld shower diverter didn’t work. Paid breakfast was good.
