The property needs major repairs, the booked cabin we reserved was not available and this is the second time this has happened. Hot tub had freezing cold water again. Poor cleaning and old rundown cabin along with everything in it. It’s under new ownership and unfortunately it seems like saving every penny is their priority and not an investment property.

100 stars! I love this place and will come back often. It was clean comfortable and the owners were kind and patient. They were up late for my late last minute arrival. We returned to this property because of the volleyball and basketball nets, the pool and the playground. However, they no longer had a basketball or volleyball to borrow, some of the swings were broken, and they didn't heat the pool and it was ice cold.

The person in charge does not have good communication. The room I had designated was too dirty. He assigned me another place. The only people who were nice were the ones who cleaned. I definitely would not stay in that place anymore.

We booked a cabin with the Jacuzzi in the cabin, but when we checked in, it was broken down and said do not use. They did switch us to a cabin that had the Jacuzzi tub instead. Overall, it was a nice day, and the cabins are kept clean and they’re comfortable. It seems they’re under new management or new ownership, but the man working was very kind and we would definitely come back!

Not what we expected.

The cabin was nice, The manager is very accommodating. He gave us whatever we asked for. He gave us an outdoor umbrella and chairs as we were going to the beach. We also asked for balls so the kids could play and he gave them to us. The swimming pool was very clean. The cabin was very hot specially upstairs we had fans but because of the weather, it did not cool the place The resort is on a very busy street, so there was a lot of traffic on a very busy road. There was constant road traffic. Definitely not a quiet place . there were some things that needed to be fixed , And I did mention it to the manager. The coffee pot needed to be replaced the battery for the fire alarm also needed replacement. The resort is dated, It’s obvious that this cabins have been around for a long time and not much upkeep has been done to them, they need a lot of work, so does the resort. Pictures do not represent how it really is.

Great Place for a Vacation!

I really enjoyed staying at this property. It was comfortable, they provided everything I needed, and when I had an issue with the stove, they immediately came and fixed it. The pool was lovely, the grounds were clean and there was ample outdoor space for me to walk my dogs away from other clients staying there. It was close to the lake, close to shops and restaurants and a very nice place all around!

Good for a budget - it is what it is.

Great budget option for families. A lot of the amenities listed were not available. The staff was extremely nice and accommodating though. The hot tub was never hot, it turned green/brown and smelly by the time we left. The kids had fun in the pool though and it was cool/clean. The beds were “ok” comfort wise, they could use to be updated and pillows replaced but the sheets were clean, soft and fresh. Everything is outdated/rustic but clean enough. Clean dishes and fully stocked kitchen cookware was a plus. Overall we wouldn’t book it again but it’s a great option if you’re on a budget looking for a place for your family. Smooth experience with check in/out and overall it “got the job done”.

Nora at the front desk was very nice and accommodating. The size of the cabin was sufficient for our party of 6 (4 adults and 2 kids). It had all of the necessary amenities to get through our weekend trip. However, this place is severely outdated and not well maintained at all. While I understand the want to keep the cottages “vintage”, some things require updating such as windows, drapes, TVs, bedding, showers, outdoor benches and BBQs. This place feels very stuffy, dusty and most hardware and appliances are VERY old and not in great condition. The most unappealing part of the stay was the grounds. They are not well maintained at all, with tons of overgrowth, weeds, broken down parts of appliances and none of the common amenities are in working order or in good condition. The pool was decent. The picnic bench outside of our cabin was broken, splintered and weathered and unusable. Cobwebs, bugs and dust everywhere. I would most likely not stay here again as there are so many other cabin choices that are better taken care of within the same area for similar pricing.

Nice place to be cozy and cool with the family. The cabin was rustic and cozy . I liked that it had plenty of beds and a whole kitchen. I liked all the family friendly perks like playground basketball court volleyball net horse shoes grills and picnic tables.The pool and hot tub were nice as well. I wish the fire pit was working so we could have utilized it but s’mores using the grill worked just fine. The place isn’t real fancy more homie and cozy but I liked that about it . It was peaceful and the family had a good time. Five minutes drive away is the village shops and a great park we also really enjoyed. All in all it had everything we needed at a great price and I would prefer to stay at this cozy cabin rather some overpriced fancy hotel.I would love to see it in the winter time as it seems that is the primary season for this little town but it was a great place to stay cool and enjoy some nature in the summer time.

The property is really run down and the cottage we stayed in was very neglected. From simple little things like burnt out light bulbs to the blinds feeling greasy when we went to open the windows. It’s pretty sad since the property looks like it once was a nice place. The lady in the office was really nice though.

The worst part of this place was the bed. A memory foam mattress that lost it's memory about 2 decades ago. Once you got on it you were getting out without help. we also heard what sounded like rats crawling around the roof but could have been birds. we reached out to the management company for a refund but never heard back.

Real comfy place to stay. Full kitchens with all the utensils and cups and pans, so you can bring your own food and cook. Log burning fireplace for a real fire in the cabins. Grounds needed to be cleaned up, but I guess the resort just reopened to the public after housing ski resort employees. Those employees need to clean better, the gal the runs the place was completely overwhelmed and I felt sorry for her.

Great place to stay and can even take your dog!

It was a cute rustic cabin, and it was so clean. When we got there we enjoyed all the amenities that were provided they gave us coffee to making the coffee maker, which is a sweet surprise. For my preference the beds were a little bit on the southside but I know some people like softer beds than I
do. The owners are really sweet and very helpful. All in all was a great place to stay. And one of the only properties that accept pets.

Cabin and Amenities Not as Listed!

Amenities listed were not accurate. I booked specifically for those. A 2 bedroom was listed, jetted tub, washer and dryer, pool table, iron & ironing board, board games, but it had none of those. I thought i was getting all I was looking for but got none! We were even asked to leave the pool early because the lights dont work even though the sign says 9pm.
I got a small cabin with a loft. It had a ceiling fan so low that i had to keep my kids away from it so they don't hit their head on it. The pool table & foosball is not open to the resort, they only had a facility washer and dryer which were broken, the iron and ironing board had to be borrowed from the office. The kitchen had no curtain so there was no privacy. Our cabin also had a very old and dirty picnic table which was peeling away as well as wooden lounge chairs that we wouldn't use. Our cabin also didnt have a bbqer.
When I brought up these issues to the office, their response was that I booked through Hotels.com which is a 3rd party so they don't have control over how their amenities are listed. They even said they've had complaints from others who have booked 3rd party. Well as a business owner, they should make sure it is accurate! I overpaid way too much for what i got and they are non refundable so couldn't go elsewhere. It was my first time at Big Bear Lake and wanted it to be a memorable trip for my kids, but i couldn't help but just want to leave!

I really liked the location, close to Boulder Bay, walking distance, and the property offered a lot of things. Fire pit, hammock, each cabin had their own picnic tables and parking. BBQ was available and they would bring them to your cabin. Only thing I didn't like was my neighbors, they were loud and very inconsiderate for other people. Property was Great.

Great spot. Had kitchen and 4 beds so our family of 5 was comfortable and could cook our meals at the cottage when we needed. The kids enjoyed the playground, horseshoes and volley ball net a lot. There was hardly anyone there which was kind of nice too. Pool and spa werent open yet but it looked like a decent setup and i would have enjoyed it for sure if it was. The ladies at front were both super nice. My wife rarely comments about how nice people are and this time she did both time and said "wow, the people at big bear are so nice". I recomend this place if your not looking for anything fancy but want a cozy cottage with the essentials.

Our stay was very good overall. Our family enjoyed the stay and would book again. Bring your own consumables: shampoo & conditioner, paper towels, cooking oil

PROS: All rooms were clean, plenty of towels, everything we needed for cooking and serving food was provided, toaster, coffeemaker, microwave, oven & range, and full size refrigerator (Cabin 21), 32" TV with cable, four queen beds and a king size roll out couch gave our group plenty of room, great wifi, convenient access right on Hwy 18.

CONS: The pool was closed until memorial day and the playground is rickety, no breakfast (plenty of places nearby). $50 fee charged at check in (described at booking but not added to hotels.com price.) Only some cabins have Jacuzzi tub (not a big deal for us). Stairs are small and narrow.

Charge hidden fees if you book through Hotels.com

As I've seen recently mentioned, they charge more per night if you book through hotels.com, etc. They say that it's an additional "cleaning fee". Apparently, they're saying we're dirtier than others? However, I work for a major hotel chain and I know that expedia, hotels.com, etc get paid a commission from the property for bookings they bring. In my opinion, they charge more at check in so that guest makes up the commission.
Also, what we booked WAS NOT what we got. We booked a 2 bedroom 2 bath. We got a 2 bedroom 1 bath. Couldn't use the jetted tub because it was located in a room you had to walk through to get to the only toilet. Ceiling fans didn't work but if you opened the windows you heard road noise all night and kids screaming by 8am. Main floor windows and 1 back door sealed shut, most outlets didn't work so there were surge protectors and extension cords hanging from the walls. They advertise an outdoor and seasonal pool. They have 1 that wasn't open. Not even comfortable outdoor space. They offer a spa which I never saw and a cafe/coffee shop that is non existent. They actually just have 2 vending machines. Their pictures and description make it seem that there's a nice common area with pool tables, etc. However, the main office area is VERY small and has gifts to purchase. I was told that the owners live upstairs in that cabin. Spend the extra money and stay closer in town. Believe me, with hidden fees, etc. you'll be spending it here.

Do Not Book on Hotels.com!

They charge you a lot more than it says on Hotels.com and they say the difference is a "cleaning fee" but it's not itemized on the bill. Wish we would have known that because we left the cabin WAY CLEANER than we found it. They basically flat out ignore whatever price you see on the Hotels.com website. Other than that, the "premium" bedding is a joke, our cabin smelled like pet pee and the cutting board in the kitchen literally had chunks of old dried meat on it. So gross!

When we first arrived the office was closed, but the manager's phone number was posted on the front door, and she answered immediately. It only took a few minutes for her to come from one of the cabins, where she had been helping another guest, to check us in. The cabin was a good size, with a kitchen and bathroom. The queen size bed was comfortable, but my son's futon bed was lumpy. Overall the location is good, not too far from Big Bear and Snow Summit, where my son snowboarded while I hung around the Village, did some shopping, read my book, and enjoyed the weekend.

The cottage driveway was too damaged to even park, we had to walk uphill through snow, water, and mud in order to access the cottage. The stove/oven did not work the smell of gas was so unbearable that we left the cottage door open awaiting office hours…

The positives, the cottage was vintage and cozy (perfect for two), customer service was good, and maintenance service (for the gas issue) was prompt.

It would have been nice to have been offered an alternative room/discount due to driveway condition

The ants were swarming the kitchen. The fireplace could not be used as it smokes. The worst complaint I have is I finalized on Expedia and the the property tagged on extra fees that said taxes. When I asked them about it they said it was a cleaning fee that they don’t include in third party sites. I am not a happy customer and will never return and will tell everyone I know.

These are very rustic cabins. The kitchen has some basic supplies but definitely mismatched and not enough utensils. Bring some plastic plastic utensils. We were in a 2 bedroom cottage (10) which had 4 beds, enough for 5 people- maybe 3 kids and 2 adults. There is a living room with 2 couches and a very small TV (19 inch?). The first night the toilet flooded and we had water all over the first floor. It was had to contact. This happened at 2am I tried the number on their website. And no answer. We found out in the morning that they post the managers phone on the door of the office. BTW office hours are strictly 3pm to 5pm. No early check-ins. After the first night disaster they were able to move us to 2 studios that are side by side. Not the most con but since it was a holiday weekend BBL was fully booked and no other options. If we had not paid for our ski lift tickets I would have just gone home. The 2 studios are also very rustic (I am being generous here)-old and drafty! Even the toilet seats are old. They are the painted wood type that are badly faded. My child refused to sit on the toilet even though I cleaned it. If you like to recapture some wilderness, turn on the century immersive experience, come here. If you want some decent up to date decent accommodations- look elsewhere .

The property itself is cute, it was covered in snow when we arrived. We booked the comfort cottage with a kitchen.

Its very tiny, there was dog hair everywhere. The maintenance guy was very rude when we were loading up to leave. The office closed at 5p and we were unable to get toilet paper. I am not usually picky, but I would not stay here again.

I booked a cottage that was supposed to sleep 10, but ended up with cottage that actually sleeps 8. Couches did not recline to make any type of sleeper. Be sure to bring air mattress just to be safe. Place was beautiful . Very Pet friendly enclosed yard Fire place need to buy wood . Go to stater brothers or Vons . Golden Bear Cottages is close to the village . Would definitely stay there again.

The room we were first assigned had a gas fumes from kitchen stove top, notified the manager to switch the room which was done with long hesitation and reluctance without apology. Other room we switched had no hot water and TV wasn’t working. I had to call the maintenance to turn on the TV and turn on the hot water. Outdoor jacuzzi was also too cold to use, call the front to talk to Lisa, owner but it wasn’t working for 2days. I decided to leave a day earlier than plan because of poor service and attitude from the owner. I wish I could get refund for my ugly and very disappointed stay. At least for a day I had to leave early.

Booked a cottage with 2 bathrooms only to find out they did not have a 2 bedroom with 2 bedrooms and that was an error on Expedia. 4 women and only one bathroom. There is a cleaning fee the property charges that is not stated. Issues we had were resolved quickly by maintenance Manuel. He was an absolute gem.You need to bring your own heaters for upstairs as only one heater in the living room.
Would we stay agon, yes. But now we know better. Buy firewood in bulk at the grocery store to save you money.

Do not recommend, will not be returning- EVER. Check in should have been at 3pm, we weren’t able to check in until 430pm due to rooms not being cleaned and ready. There appeared to be only one person on staff-running the office and cleaning the rooms, which really makes you think about how much time was put into the sanitation of each room/cottage. We reserved a deluxe studio. It was tiny. The cottage was completely outdated which I know is usually expected for cabins like this but it was pretty bad. Carpets had not been vacuumed and obviously not cleaned in years. I found hair on my “fresh” pillow cases, and upon closer inspection a public hair too. We requested fresh bedding which we had to put on our selves. I literally didn’t feel comfortable having my kids sleep here. The other bed was a pull out futon- NASTY! We requested sheets so my husband could sleep on it (family of four) but that didn’t help. Springs were nearly popping out of it. TV remote barely worked. It was taped together with black electrical tape. Bathroom was not much better. Black long hairs were around the bathroom sink faucet that I had the pleasure of cleaning off. Kitchen was ok, usable. But it’s the kind of place you don’t want to walk around barefoot and you worry all weekend if you’re going to come home with bed bugs. They need more staff and better attention to cleanliness. We had to stay with friends over at their rental because we didn’t even want to sit in ours.

Not as comfortable as our other stays

After a long day of traffic, we arrived at Golden Bear Cottages around 5pm. Upon checking in, I was told our cabin was not ready, but we could wait in the living room. We waited over an hour for our cabin to be ready. This was disappointing because we were tired from our commute and just wanted to relax.

When we went to bed, noticed the bedding appeared old and stained. The bedding was not warm enough, as it was a thin blanket and a thin quilt. It was so cold upstairs, that my son and I slept downstairs, in the living room. Wall heater only warned up the living room.

The next morning, shower and tub were backed up. We notified the front desk and they did fix it. Shower is stained, Bathroom was not very clean.

We've stayed at these cottages a couple of times before, because they're not too far from the village and snow valley. They're also, pet friendly and we like to take our dog. This stay, however, was not as comfortable. I may just bypass them and stay somewhere else next time.

Let me explain why it was just OK. Our first day we didn't have internet. On our last day I noticed the Carbon Monoxide detector AND the smoke detector don't work. I called the front office and she blamed it on former guests. Shouldn't it be the property's responsibility to make sure they work? Lastly, two of the gas stove burners didn't work so we had to smell gas the entire 4 days.

Location was great. Grounds of property were kept up nice spacious areas. Believe most or all cabins have their own personal parking which is very convenient.
Cons heater in cabin wasnt working first night called after hours number for help did not get a response until 630 am so first nihht we were pretty cold.cleanliness was sub par hair stuck on the walls in the bathroom pullout out soaga bed had crumbs in it for 300 a nigjt definitely expect to ne cleaner. Upon check out to go over these things with them office was empty called the number on door for assistance and no answer so just had to leave the key in the drop box for check out.

Wow! What a dump! Outdoor metal table and chairs were in the middle of the room, way too small, old bathroom, old blinds and the bed was awful! I would never recommend or stay there again. Very disappointing
