The hotel is conveniently located just a short distance downhill from Piazza Garibaldi (the entry to the main pedestrian zone of Cortona). However, parking is on-street nearby and arriving on a fine Saturday afternoon, it was challenging to find a space. I had to park in a paid space located a distance away for check-in, and only managed to find a free spot later when the day tourists had left.

Parking issues aside, the hotel itself is lovely and cosy, and all the staff I met, from reception to restaurant, were genuinely warm and attentive. The breakfast was a standout – instead of the usual dry scrambled eggs and limp bacon, there was asparagus wrapped in bacon, baked eggplant topped with diced tomato, baked stuffed tomatoes, fried eggs with avocado slides, and many more visually appealing dishes I did not have space in my stomach to sample. I have never had such a unique and delicious hotel breakfast anywhere.

The hotel also offered some small bites for happy hour in the evening, but these were not as good as breakfast and were quickly gone without being replenished.

I got a very good deal on Expedia, visiting in the off-season in late November. If the price is right, I would definitely stay at Hotel Villa Marsili again if I return to Cortona or its vicinity. Highly recommended hotel!

What stood out most is the staff. Very friendly, welcoming, professional, helpful and genuine in their everyday interactions with guests. We got help parking our car upon arrival, enjoyed their daily happy hour and dessert offerings, and their daily included breakfast was simply amazing! The charm of the hotel decor, and the beautiful view of the Tuscan hills from our corner suite made it feel like we were transported in time. Walking distance to lots of shops and restaurants and 1 hour day trip drives to other towns made this hotel an ideal base for our week long stay. Highly recommend!

I can't recommend the Marsili highly enough. The property is perfectly situated just on the outskirts of Cortona center. A 5 minute walk and you are exploring a fascinating, casual, friendly, safe and fun neighborhood. Every member of the staff went out of their way to meet our needs. We loved the breakfast as it was different daily and so delicious. The rooms were large and comfortable. We sat up in bed in the morning to outstanding views of the valley. It was out of a painting.

The location for this hotel was absolutely perfect. Perfect location. Dreamy town. The hotel staff was friendly… literally everyone. The hotel was spotless, the linens were soft, and breakfast was beautiful. The tables were set with linens and silverware and the servers brought freshly made coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice upon request. Guests help themselves to a full breakfast buffet with unique options, like rolled omelettes, stuffed tomatoes, vegetables, but there are also pastries and freshly made jams. I couldn’t have been happier with our experience.

This seems to be a converted villa. Beautifully done. The staff is warm and very accommodating.
Outstanding, really. Our room was very comfortable. King bed, writing desk, table and chairs for in-room dining. Large, well appointed bath and plenty of closet space. The abundant, expertly prepared breakfast each morning was incredible. There’s a happy hour in the evening with snacks and a cash bar. It’s 5 minutes to the flat street with shops and restaurants.

Rooms are decorated very opulently w. rich passimenterie & textiles, Murano glass chandelier & brass fixtures. Room and toilette are VERY large by EU standards! Happy hour complimentary snacks could almost serve as dinner. and breakfast is amazing. Omelettes, and eggs (fried or scrambled) made to order. Seriously one of the most opulent hotels we've ever stayed in, and we've traveled extensively.Not to mention the gorgeous views of the Tuscan countryside and Lake Tresamino. Fabulous stay!

We loved this hotel. Its staff is as helpful, willing, and present as at a very high-end hotel and as friendly and personable as at a cozy b&b. Our room was lovely--sunny, spacious, and comfortable--and the shower was perfect! The breakfast buffet in the morning was amazing, too. Two tables full of savory and sweet options including an array of cheeses, charcuterie, ricotta-stuffed zucchini flowers, asparagus wrapped in bacon, baby eggplant stuffed with tomatoes, polenta. There was fresh fruit, muesli, and yogurt, cakes, croissants, and custard tarts as well as the necessities of coffee and tea. In the evening there were nibbles available in the lounge and bar stocked with whatever you might desire. Everything was wonderful! I highly recommend this hotel for couples and, I think, for families. It's centrally located in Cortona--just 2 hills to climb to cafes, gelaterias, art galleries, museums--everything except the many other churches and gardens that are some 8 hills away.

The Hotel Marsili, in the hill town of Cortona, is a lovely hotel with amazing views over the valley below and a beautiful charming place to stay. Exquisite rooms with antique furniture that takes you to another age. The owner is so friendly and attentive to every detail. The staff are warm and welcoming and remember you and your wants.
The daily breakfast buffet is the best. So many delicious choices to suit every palate. One of the best places I have stayed in, certainly the top hotel on this trip to Tuscany.

Villa Marsili was a delightful surprise. Our suites were huge, beautiful, comfortable and had great views of the valley. Rooms were filled with antiques as were rest of the hotel. Nice departure from usual hotels. Staff were unfailingly helpful. The best breakfast buffet of our 18 day trip through Italy. I loved starting the day with freshly squeezed orange juice! After dinner each night, we sat at it's lounge and had free nightcap and cookies. It's located a little down hill from Cortona center. The climb is a little steep but we got used to it during 4 nights we stayed here. I would definitely stay here again.

Villa Marsili is a charming small hotel on the edge of the historic center of Cortona. The breakfast was very nice, and the staff prepared my plate so as to maintain social distancing. The 8-minute walk into the center of town is uphill, but nothing compared to walks around the rest of town! When I returned from dinner the evening host invited me into the lounge area for an drink of vin santo and biscotti, a Tuscan wine served with homemade cookies of several types.
All in all, a very pleasant stay.

Birthday Long Weekend In Cortona

Marina and the team at Villa Marsili made our long weekend magical. They greeted us like long time friends visiting, my husband had never been previously to the hotel, but I had a few times before. He was blown away by the friendliness and warmth from ALL the team there. We treated ourselves to a Cookery Class with Ilaria and it was so much fun, and delicious! Breakfast was amazing, I said AMAZING! We have travelled all over the world and never ever have we had a breakfast this delicious, varied and extensive. Marina and her team pride themselves so much with attention to detail, it is so wonderful to see and to experience. They just cannot do enough for you. Cortona and the surrounding area is so beautiful, we found the hotel so relaxing we really didn't leave that much. It was just exactly the peaceful break we were looking for. Very convenient, even luxury...But WiFi :(

Pretty comfortable hotel in Cortona for people, coming in a car. Hotel is located at the foot of the hill, easily accessed in the car. Does not have its own parking though when you come, your car is parked nearby by hotel personnel. When you need it, the car is brought within several minutes.
5 minutes to walk along a non-steep street up the hill to the town center.
Excellent breakfast. Main problem is to taste everything that is in the buffet (and everything is worth tasting). Bar with soft drinks in the room is complimentary (but not refilled ).
Friendly personnel. Receptionist advised us where to go for dinner, what to look at in the town, and what neighboring towns to visit (with recommendations about vinaries, restaurants, POI).
The only thing I would complain is the WiFi. It was poor in out room. Receptionist several times reset the routers, it network started working better, but soon was down again. Some network from the other floor was usable, but was pretty poor.

Beautiful hotel with amazing views of surrounding Tuscany. Cortona is a lovely quiet place. Front desk staff extremely helpful and pleasant.

Wonderful place and wonderful people!

I rarely write reviews but this hotel deserves it. The staff members are truly PROFESSIONAL. They are wonderful people who know how to run their business. The hotel is also excellent and located close to the center of the city. And breakfast was outstanding.

A Great base for exploring South Tuscany

This hotel has a good location on the hillside at the base of the old town of Cortona. You can easily walk to the town, and it was easy to get away to explore the surrounding area (like Montalcino and Montepulciano). Our room was bright, clean and airy, with a great view south to Umbria and Lake Trasimeno. We were there during a heat wave and the A/C was fine. The staff are very friendly and helpful (they helped us find and book a restaurant for dinner), and have many guidebooks available in various languages. There were many nice touches at this hotel, like the afternoon snacks and the post dinner cantucci and vin santo in the main salon. Our bedroom was quiet at night. The location is also convenient for getting back to Rome - the airport is a 2.5 hour drive.

Beautiful hotel

We loved every moment in the Villa Marsili. Tucked away from the main hustle and bustle of Cortona, it provided a wonderful space in which to unwind and reflect on what we'd seen from day to day.

Local Beautiful Town and Villa

Rooms were large, well appointed, and clean. Location was perfect (except for parking a car, so luckily there was free valet parking when we arrived), only a 5 minute walk (mostly uphill so may be difficult for the elderly?) to the quiet and friendly town of Cortona (which is mostly flat). The area is strikingly BEAUTIFUL. The staff at the hotel is very friendly and goes out of their way to help guests find restaurants or shops or things to do. I am glad that we stopped here for a day or so on our way from Bologna to Rome.

Close to the old hill town of Cortona.

Beautiful and convenient location if you want the village experience. A short walk up the hill takes you right into the center where there is constant activity. The staff is so friendly and helpful. A favorite place to be.

Wonderful hotel in Cortona

We come here whenever we visit Cortona. The hotel is first class and the staff are welcoming and helpful. The breakfast is an assortment of delicious homemade pastries and pies. We highly recommend this hotel if you want first class service and accommodations.
