After reading so many excellent reviews we had high expectations for this hotel unfortunately for us it didn't quite reach the mark.

Pro's
- smooth & quick check-in (after a pre-check in via email)
- App is helpful to see what's happening/bookings etc
- Hotel grounds/ facilities well maintained & clean
- friendly Staff
- Clean & tidy room
- beautiful setting
- Taste of Asia recommended for lunch
- Excursions are worth booking available through hotel (we did Jozani Forest/Stone Town) We also did Cheetahs Rock (booked directly with facility for this one) highly recommended
con's
- Restaurant food for lunch/dinner is very similar and can get boring
- Bookable restaurants not always available (book in advance)
- We found the lunch food on offer far better than dinner
- no bar snacks when having a drink - nuts/crisp etc - this would have been a nice touch
- Turn downs were hit and miss - sometimes it happened others not - not what we expected for a premium room - especially when there was limited water to drink in the room when the turn down was missed - sometimes really early as well 5pm
-lots of extra charges - all inclusive isn't all inclusive (some cocktails /drinks are extra along with 1 of the restaurants)
Overall we enjoyed our stay but didn't feel like it was 5-star.

Amazing Hotel

This is a really AMAZING HOTEL for both families or couples. I travelled more than 70 countries; and this was such an amazing spot I stayed. Before selectong hotel I read all comments but some negative ones are not very realistic to me now:
1-amazing staff: from reception to beach, restaurants to gardeners; all are making the hotel really shine. So kind, helpful, and service quality to your front amazingly. In any other country you cannot find such - in EU for sure not
2- food: very very delicious, big variety. Some mentioned that it s not easy to book restaurants which is absolutaley not true; very very easy indeed. If you are searching for Michelin restaurants ; for sure no need to come here; otherwise this hotel is amazing
3-natives by the beach: wheb walking by the beach; there are Tanzanian and Masai people approaching you but in a very gentle way; tryijg to help you walk in return asking you to visit their shops in a very good petsonal distance. All are kind. No need to worry at all even with kids or ladies alone. Also in case there are safety guards by beach.
4- sea and beach: very beautiful amd clean. Even in low tides you cannkt see any trash in the sea or beach. Be careful with sear urchines in low tide after 1km from beach. Masaii will help you

My only comment might be daily trips and spa services; despite of their quality; a bit overpriced even above EU levels.

Overall:
Such a very good price vs service quality. Big thanks to all team and employees.

Amazing hotel for families or couples

This is a really AMAZING HOTEL for both families or couples:
1-amazing staff: from reception to beach, restaurants to gardeners; all are making the hotel really shine. So kind, helpful, and service quality to your front amazingly. In any other country you cannot find such - in EU for sure not
2- food: very delicious, enough variety. Some mentioned that it s not easy to book restaurants which is absolutaley not true; very easy indeed. If you are searching for Michelin restaurants ; for sure no need to come here; otherwise this hotel is amazing. Many alcoholic beverages included in all incl; others are normal priced compared to EU.
3-natives by the beach: when walking by the beach; there are Tanzanian and Masai people approaching you but mostly in a friendly way; keeping personal distance; if some are insisting, they stop if you ask them to. No need to worry, even with kids or ladies alone. Also there are safety guards by beach. If you lay in hotel borders, they are not allowed to enter. They try to help you and ask for your visit to their shops for 5-1” euro souvenirs only.dont forget you are staying with 250-400euro/night; be generous. Average salady in Tanzania is 90-100 euro/month
4- sea and beach: very beautiful and clean. Even in low tides you cannot see any trash in the sea or beach. Be careful with sea urchines in low tide after 1km from beach. Masaii will help you
5-rooms r big & clean

My only comment might be daily trips and spa services; a bit overpriced.

The entire hotel staff are absolutely wonderful - they are always friendly and welcoming. They are really what makes this place great.
The buffet food was great and our room was wonderful. The rOom and hotel in general were immaculately clean. Even the beach along the nearby coast is crystal clear and clean.
would say the water for showering isn't great but I'm not sure there's a whole lot that can be done about that. The hotel is also quite far from Stone Town/the airport, so be prepared to booka lot of taxis if you have things to do on the west side of the island.

The staff were lovely. A massive shout out to Innocent who served us during our romantic beach dinner and also went above and beyond the following night for beach buffet dinner. An honourable mention to Sufiyan or Sufiyani I cannot remember his name properly but really great service at Bar & Grill restaurant. Hotel amenities were great with good food at both buffet restaurants. Only downside was that they could not guarantee us late checkout, however, the use of the showers and changing rooms alleviated this.

The hotel is well staffed and are always happy to help. The hotel and accommodation is very clean and is constantly kept clean. The pools are warm and relaxing. The Masai on the beach are warm and welcoming but can be a little full on at times, but hotel security are great at moving them along if you want to be left alone.

The food and entertainment are fabulous and range if all inclusive drinks are great. Spoilt for choice with restaurants and food.

I never go back to the same hotel, but this is one I would consider returning back to.

The hotel service is nice and friendly but this is not a 5 starts hotel.
On the positive side food is good and varied and people are very friendly and welcoming.
The negatives are the beach, which was really disappointing, full of seaweeds and with dirty water, the pool was too warm to use with water above 33 degrees and with chemicals that left our swimsuits all green and damaged.
The private beach area above the beach is nice but as you walk on the beach it’s impossible to have a walk in peace as the locals will jump on you trying to sell several things or escort you.
There is no entertainment for children, all the few activities organised are catered for adults so our children had nothing to do all day. We expected some sort of kids club being used to other 5 starts hotel but nothing here. Also no water sports, they have a pile of 5 kayaks which we were told are all broken and couldn’t be used. They don’t have any SUP or other equipment, the attendants of the water sports were only interested is selling expensive excursions.
Also no service on site to withdraw money, we were suggested to walk 15min along a busy road if we wanted the 10 dollars we needed. We also asked to exchange a banknote as we had to pay the driver and reception said they cannot do that.
I would not come back or recommend this place, main reason being the disappointing beach and sports/kids service, such a shame because some staff were really exceptional like Rami, the amazing bartender!

We booked two connecting rooms for 5 persons, however the rooms had only 4 beds. This was of course a bit inconvenient.

Overall, we had a very pleassant stay.

There is a lot to say about this wonderful property and experience, but first things first.
The STAFF is genuinely delightful. Upendo, Ireen, everyone at the breakfast service or Dixon in reception, to name a few, relentless in being helpful and kind.
Everything is top notch and there is this absolutely original tour that we loved, where you visit all the inner parts of how the resort is organized from within. You have the chance to physically visit the dedicated offices for finance, procurement, logistics, laundry, staff's canteen, dynamics of the different restaurants, etc. etc.
The FOOD it delicious from the variety at breakfast to the grilled fish/seafood or to the Italian pastas.
The FACILITIES are unique with a practically private beach, loungers, pools, gym, sports grounds.
The ACTIVITIES that make us feel that we are in sporting holidays liaising with other guests playing sports if you fancy movement at times, beside the relaxing sunny beach.
Could probably elaborate more and more but in summary, it's a 10 out of 10 Holiday time!

Liked: beautiful grounds, nice private beach and lots of activities to do with kids. We also had a villa with private pool which was perfect and great sized room for 4 of us (2 teenagers).
Didn’t like: main pool felt a little like ‘a Butlins camp’ (no offense but obviously expect more for 5 star). Fully inclusive food and drink really mediocre. Staff were hit and miss with some lovely members whilst others looked miserable.
Also would have loved a peaceful walk on the beautiful beach but you are bombarded by Maasai as soon as you take one step on there which is such a shame (not hotels fault of course!)
Overall a lovely hotel but it’s not quite a 5 star for me but depends what you are looking for. Plenty of people looked like they were having wonderful time :)

For the most part, my experience was great. The only absolute disappointment was the gym. Very small, unsuitable for resort of this size. All inclusive option was also not so glamorous as all the restaurants were open only at certain times. For our entire stay, only one place was open for breakfast and two to three for dinner. But selection was good, although same or very similar every day.

I would have given 5 stars if check in was more smooth . Was given the wrong room and slow service to resolve it . Otherwise everyone and everything else is great . The food was excellent minus taste of asia was ok . Didn’t get to try the Italian restaurant. The main restaurant is excellent . The drinks and bartenders are superb . The facility is awesome and the beach area . Will be back again . The shisha was average but it’s so nice to have shisha on the beach . Shoutout to Aloyce, best bartender .

Staff was fantastic. Food pretty good. But limited ability to reserve at “restaurants” drinks are poor quality and limited…e.g a margarita costs extra. They use small plastic bottle waters. So not super eco friendly. Also expect folks to get up early and claim a chair with a towel and not show up for hours. But the staff bent over backwards to be accommodating.

The resort is wonderful. Beautiful beach and facilities. They arrange everything you need from transport to excursions. Shops and restaurants on site. I really didn’t have to leave if I didn’t want to. Staff was incredibly helpful with this being my first time to Zanzibar. My literal only complaint was how hard the mattress was. But it was a minor complaint because I was barely in the room. Too busy out having fun.

This was a great resort. So many good things to share and just a couple areas of improvement.
Pros:
- Very nice & attentive staff! If you have excursions booked, reception will call you & let you know the tour operator told them the pick up time. Staff provided guidance & tour of where everything was located.
- Entire resort was not crowded at all! Plenty open dining and resting options on the beach.
- The food is decent for a resort.
- We were able to check in a couple hours early & didn’t have to pay a fee.
- There’s bar & towel service on the beach. Very convenient.
- Nice book share area but they’re all in Swahili.
- The spa was nice. Nothing special but decent.

Cons:
- About an hour from ZNZ airport (which many resorts are)
- The room was spacious but the bathroom is an open floor plan. We had to put a bedsheet over the bathroom window for a privacy.
- The alcoholic drinks are watered down. Don’t waste your money.
- Most food options are buffet & the staff & guests aren’t req to wear masks so be prepared for that. And germs with people touching their noses & then the utensils in the buffet like.
- There were flies all over the breakfast food each morning & the staff didn’t care so I’d be cautious when in line.
- The customer service at the Italian restaurant was a bit subpar in comparison to the broader resort operations. Not a good experience there.

Cons
-some service related issues e.g requested items such as a laundry bag / clothing iron - items either never arrived at the unit at all, or came after a unreasonably long period
-food was average
-was forced to pay $70 for a Xmas dinner. This was in the booking fine print. Guests should have the option to opt out, as not all guests would opt to attend the dinner.

Tips
- be sure to make a reservation at the African resturant
-unlike other hotels, when booking half board, the hotel only offers water as a free drink during supper. Juices and soft drinks are charged for

Good All Inclusive Resort

The resort was excellent, staff were very friendly, hard working and always greeted guests with a smile. All facilities were excellent and well maintained and clean.

We did feel food options could have been better, especially as Zanzibar is known for their spicies. Local drinks could have been better and there was no option to upgrade drinks package to premium drinks.

Overall, satisfied and would recommend this resort.

Don’t stay here!

Do not stay at this hotel. It is definately not a five star resort! Let me start with the cons
1. Safe not working. Brought to the attention of guest relations manager and fixed
2. Telephone line not working at all. Bear in mind, there is a long walk between ocean view suite and reception to bring up issues. There is a WhatsApp line to guest relation manager but when u have a query in the middle of the night you are facing a long walk.
3. The pool side first aid kit consists of one unsterile glove, unsterile cotton wool and calamine lotion!!!! No antiseptic or proper first aid kit! My daughter had a cut at the pool, and my husband had to run to our rooms to get first aid. Luckily, I am a doctor, and cane prepared.
4. Electricity cuts mean you waking up at least 4times a night to switch the aircon on. Temperature rises quickly.
5. Rooms are very dated
6. All inclusive is not all inclusive. Between breakfast and lunch, even tho we were willing to pay for food for my 3year old to snack on between meal times, we faced uphill and I had to escalate to the assistant GM. Ridiculous! Five star resort my foot!
Pros:
1. Staff very friendly.
2. Water pulls back with tide exposing the reef which is anazing to explore. We saw clown fish, star fish, sea cucumber, spongy ink fish. It was incredible.
3. Meal times have a sufficient spread of food
4. Theme nights were really special

I would definately not stay here again. They should have their star rating reviewed urgently

The grounds were well maintained. It is a beautiful beachfront property with lots of amenities. The staff is the best part of the resort!!! They were friendly and accommodating. The spa services were amazing!!

The only issues I had with the property was that all the restaurants are open-air therefore flies, mosquitos, and other flying insects were harassing us while we ate. I did not enjoy this. We had to wear bug spray every time we went out the room. They need to invest in a good exterminator and the fans that sit at doors of restaurants that keep the flies out.

The power kept going out; however, I think this is an island problem and not neccessarily the hotels issue. Our telephone didn’t work in the room.

When power came back on the ac did not and had to be turned on manually. It is very hot and humid so this created much discomfort in the room.

We stayed here after an incredible safari in Masai Mara, Kenya. We were hoping for a week of relaxation in luxury and it certainly gave us just that!!
Great setting, amazing staff who can’t do enough for you, very nice range of food with a gorgeous seafood restaurant (additional charge but worth it).

Front desk staff are a whole different breed...

After organising transfers through the hotel my wife and I had to wait nearly an hour for collection due to sloppy organisation by frony desk.

For 5 out of our 5 days stay so far, waste water has been leaking from our bathroom into our hallway turning our junior suite into a swamp. Maintenance repair have come daily to attempt to fix to no avail and front desk staff take no responsibility and have not offered any goodwill as means on apology

A true shame as this hotel is highly regarded. It would be nice if proper checks and maintenance were carried out and front desk staff received appropriate training

Lovely break for a young family of 4

We visited D.O.Z with an 8 week old baby and a 26 month old baby for a nice relaxing break. The weather in May was extremely wet but obviously this can't be helped. What made this holiday for us was 1000% the staff. Once you leave your hotel room, you won't walk 10 steps without a genuinely friendly face offering to top up your drink for you. No long waits at the bar, happy to bring the drink over to you, even if you're at the bar.

We found the entertainment slightly lacklustre but not through lack of trying. The best performances by far, the live bands at the Tuesday night gala. It seems this hotel has an unwritten rule of 'never say no' -Nothing that you ask is too much.

The room decor is beautiful and much nicer in the flesh. Our only bugbear was a less than smooth check-in process as we had a 4am arrival (we paid for the early check in but this still wasn't arranged)- apart from this, we absolutely LOVED D.O.Z and would love to revisit in the future.

Before I get into the negative I must say that all the staff was the best part of the trip, very accommodating. While the view is absolutely fantastic, room wasn't what I expected. I paid for a deluxe room yet I felt cheated. My friend who got the Junior suite had a much bigger room with a Jacuzzi included, and paid 300 less than I did! Also, all my bed sheets smelled like wet sock. Not cool. And of coarse on my last day, the electricity went out and we had to pack our bags in the dark. The electricians did come by but they were not able to figure out the issue. Lastly, all of us got food poisoning and the ride home was not pleasant at all!

Overall, it was a good experience (though they might have been close to 500 checked-in customers). Clearly caters more to European (mid-budget) tourists/travellers. Big resort, so not for those out for the \"boutique\" experience. Probably rates at 3½ stars.

PROS: Good hotel management/nice beach/nice pool/big and quiet rooms/Champagne & Vodka station at the breakfast buffet (for those of us that put vodka in their cereals....)/Nice friendly staff/Large buffet with some dishes pretty tasty, but others more of cafeteria standards.
CONS: Room floor was dirty upon our arrival (though hotel manager quickly took action to address this)/One hour of blasting \"euro disco music\" pool-side at lunch time (for those few fans of aqua-aerobics)/nice staff but more more training needed/Hawkers on the beach (but not as aggressive as seen elsewhere....)

Beuatiful beautiful resort

Dream of Zanzibar is a lovely resort and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. A huge thank you to food and beverage manager Riyab who assisted us and specifically my father with certain meal requests (as we are all vegetarian) and a huge thank you to chef Sebastian who prepared them with so much love- it was delicious!! There were vegetarian food options with every meal and whilst we did not find the other restaurants on the property to cater adequately for vegetarians the main restaurant certainly did with an amazing array of fresh salads daily, pasta, noodles and curries.

The room itself was very clean however the pillows are probably the worst part about the bed- they need serious upgrading! The room also does not align itself with the standards of international five star hotels specifically when compared to Asia and I am certain within a few years.. all rooms will need to be refurbished and upgraded. The wifi on the resort is intermittant and more often than not, it doesn't work- you can only get good wifi when sitting at the reception so you will find large of groups people sitting at the reception at night.

Lovely entertainment on Tuesday (Barbeque night around the pool with a live band), Thursday night (African night on the beach with the goma goma performances) and Saturday night (Arabian night- good food but the entertainment needs to be improved). Friday night there was an acrobatic performance- amazing!!

The mattress and pillows need to be upgraded. Slept very bad with poor grade mattress and pillows. The bedding and towels had a smell to them. The grounds are beautiful. From resort to ocean the Masai were overwhelming to the point we did not go to the beach. The tv is so small to see from the beds, should upgrade tv and cable as there were very few channels

Beautiful hotel, but rooms need renovation

What a lovely hotel. Beautifully positioned overlooking the reef with manicured gardens and a wonderful feeling of openness, even for a hotel this size. Staff were exceptional with constant smiles and friendliness!

Rooms are adequate but some aspects are a let down. Bath towels and beach towels need updating as they are thread bare and frayed. No wash cloths are made available in bathrooms, and only one piece of soap was provided for our five day stay. The showerhead in our bathroom needed replacement as it washed the bathroom floor with water spray every time we showered.

Food was mainly buffet style which was adequate, albeit some of the food looked re-used and did not look or taste fresh. Theme night buffets enjoyable and wide selection of foods.

There was a problem with my reservation at check in. Finally they found it. I had reserved a Junior suite. The employee tried to give me a lower category room, telling me that was the suite. I had to wait more than two hours at The lobby for my room to be ready
The food was not Of good quality and The beach chairs were in a deplorable condition

Very good, but a few shortcomings

Very nice hotel - beautiful grounds and beach. Service generally excellent, but occasionally slow (for example there were not always enough staff in the bar at busy times). Food was okay - would be better if they focused on quality and variety rather than having 'gala' evenings on the beach or by the pool that most people did not seem to enjoy. Rooms were very spacious - shame they did not have comfortable furnishings. Lovely sea view from the junior suites. Good there was free wifi, but it was very slow.

I stayed here recently for a weekend with a few friends. The hotel is very nice and the service is great. The staff are always asking how you are doing, if they can get you anything. It's located on the east coast right on the beach. There is a huge difference in the tides which is really cool to see. At low tide you can walk out so far in knee deep water and then swim in high tide. The rooms are gorgeous. There are several restaurants to choose from though the food was just okay in my opinion. For us we only stayed a couple days so it was fine. This is an Italian property so all the plugs are Italian and different from Tanzania. I get the clientele is largely Italian so I understand why they have Italian plugs, but it is a bit baffling to me why you would not have any that are the same as the entire rest of the country you are in. Thankfully they have adapters you can use if you put down a deposit.

Very pleasant stay; air conditioning worked great; food was excellent with many choices; the beds were beautifully decorated with fresh flowers daily; only 2 concerns: bed was a little hard for my taste since I usually don't sleep well would prefer pillow top mattress; the beach was not user friendly to sports even though facility was available for kayaks and windsurfing; great greeting on arrival; staff was all very friendly and accommodating; also wish they had at least 2 working treadmills at the gym; lots of people wanted to use the gyn; there wasn't even one working treadmill and there was nowhere to run around the facility

Lovely 4 nights of family relaxation

A very nice set up hotel, quite small but with plenty available. Beautiful turquoise blue sea and a great beach. Lovely pool down by the beach with the main restaurant (buffet) and the smaller restaurants nearby. The smaller restaurants were mostly the same food as the main one but quieter which was nice. Overall we were very impressed, 4-6 nights would be plenty and we really enjoyed coming here after 2 nights in Stone Town and a trip around the spice farms.
