I really love this resort and I highly recommend it for anyone in USA hoping to vacation in Zanzibar Tanzania. I am from Houston, Texas and I have made VOI my vacation spot in Tanzania. This is my second time taking my fiance to this resort and I just love the hospitality you get once you step a foot into this resort. The manager was very awesome and the staffs are probably the best people you can ever meet in the world especial Massai Name Daniel whom I call my friend and Malik at the front desk whom I also consider as friend after meeting them twice in two years.. The entire staff are just wonderful. Food and drinks are great and the environment is very clean. The bar tenders are the best, The entertainment group were wonderful. You can not beat this all inclusive resort cos is a place you want to go back after visiting once. I just wanna say thanks to the Entire staffs and management for always making us feel special whenever we visit VOI. And I will forever cherish the treatment we get whenever we visit VOI. Thanks and God Bless each and everyone of you for all you do for all the visitors..My only regret is I did not get the chance to tip all the wonderful Chelfs in the cafeteria for all the good food the prepared for us. I am from Houston,Texas and This was my first time vacationing in Zanzibar. I will say I got the best hospitality at VOI Kiwengwa than any other places I have been to outside America. The resort was awesome, the management was very helpful and listen to your concerns, OMG the staff are the best. The food and drinks was great. I highly recommend this resort to anyone that need a great vacation spot in Zanzibar Tanzania. I am surely taking my wife back to this resort every year. Is now my number one vacation spot in Africa. Thank you VOI Kiwengwa for the great hospitality especially Daniel and all the guys at the bar. You guys made my vacation the best

I had a wonderful stay and felt very safe, welcomed and taken care of by staff and management. The property is beautiful with authentic Tanzania architecture, intricate craftsmanship details and exotic decor while providing all the modern amenities and fun of a great all-inclusive resort / Italian Club. Plenty of bottled drinking water, nice bar drinks and wonderful food at the main restaurant. The property is gorgeous with meticulously maintained tropical gardens leading to the wonderful huge pool and exotic beach with plenty of comfortable loungers. The rooms are beautifully decorated and reflect authentic interior while having everything one needs for rest and relaxation. Special thanks to Philippo in management for accommodating my late arrival and to Omar for the great sign off. Wonderful live music by very talented Alessio performing Italian and English hits nightly. The entertainment team was so hard working around the clock and very attentive. Great shows! Nice group of guests at the resorts from different countries, great vibes and so much fun! Hope to be back! Thank you all!

It was on the beach. Lots of sun loungers and staff to help move them when required.
Mostly geared up for Italian visitors as it is an Italian hotel.
Would be nice to have had access to local tv programmes to give authentic feeling.

Great time!

We had a really good stay at VOI. The beach was wonderful, although the tide does go out for a few hours around noon. The managers were helpful- they booked our excursions and taxis with minimal effort from us. The room was nice and clean and enough space for three people. It is a very Italian heavy populace- the signs in the dining room are primarily in Italian. But it is definitely a great all inclusive option with a great beach!

Ho trascorso una settimana fantastica al Voi kiwengwa resort in compagnia dei miei amici.
Resort fantastico, location top, staff eccezionale, pulizia eccellente per non menzionare il cibo delizioso e gli aperitivi in spiaggia o garden ogni giorno. F&B manager (Roberto) sempre presente, attento ai dettagli affinché gli standard di qualità e professionalità fossero mantenuti sempre alti. Animazione altrettanto divertente, un grazie in particolare alla nostra Claudia che con la sua energia e simpatia ha conquistato i nostri cuori ed i nostri sorrisi.
Grazie per aver reso la nostra vacanza speciale.

The pool and beach are amazing. The \"beach boys\" are annoying. The resort itself is big and nice. The food was just OK, but there was a large selection at the buffet. A good value for the money paid.

Rooms are not very clean, insects on the floors, towels are smelly, entertainment only for Italians speaking guests , sitting area in the lounge not comfortable, dinning room is very casual , food covers are not tight to prevent insects in the dining room , public bathroom not clean, quality of food is good and good varieties, lighting in the main dining room is uninviting, beach is nice and clean , lack of water bottles

The hotel itself is good one on the budget. The food is good and people are friendly. The only problem for us : full of italien. The entertainment,service all in italien. So we have feeling that isolated from the culture and atmosphere italien.

The local staff were fabulous, the Italian staff not so friendly to non Italians. I love Italy and the Italian people, but I think the marketing for this hotel should be a little more forthcoming about \"true Italian hospitality\" meaning that the entire resort caters to Italians. I have stayed at Spanish owned resorts, but that doesn't mean it is focused only on Spanish people and didn't appreciate the subtlety when booked. This resort is focused on Italians only and could be a more inclusive for Non-Italian guests. Entertainment looked fun, but the Italian staff only engaged the Italian guests in those activities, up to and including a reservation desk for Italians only, and the entertainment board in Italian and next to the Italians only desk. If this was the intent, I completely missed it in the marketing and hotel selection. FYI...I do speak some Italian, but I may have chosen another resort to have a more Tanzanian Zanzibar experience.

Beautiful hotel on the beach

Had a fabulous 8 days in the Voi resort in Kiwengwa... staff were very friendly and attentive... there was a large choice of food and drink available throughout the day.

Only downside with not being Italian is all the hotel entertainment is in Italian and all guests apart from myself and my friend were Italian. It did not put me off my trip but would most likely discourage me from revisiting this resort.

A piece of Italy in Zanzibar! Beautiful location great room, Italian towels linen etc. and amazing food. This is a big resort and can cater for roughly 500 people, so not the best option if you want to be isolated. As per previous reviews, the resort is overwhelmingly Italian, so not the best option if you want to be included in the various activities on the beach night life etc. However all the staff are really friendly we were entertained by the surroundings,do speak with the locals for great excursions

Very friendly staff and good atmosphere to relax.

The rooms are clean and comfortable though facilities not updated. The swimming pool, the beach location and the various activities with the staff keep you entertained.
The restaurants have a wide variety of food which is prepared fresh sometimes as you wait. The food is really nice mix of international and local cuisuines. This is definitely one of the selling point.

Amazing experience in Zanzibar: Nice \"Little Italy

Amazing week on leave. The hotel was really good, up to the mark and the stuff was always willing to help. We spent there 7 days with asolut relaxation. A lot of Italian mood around, what it makes it a \"little Italy\", western approach that sometimes we are missing in Dubai. We will be willoing to come back and enjoy another of our time off. Don't let it down!!

The Hotel stuff only need to pay a bit more attention to details to make it an outstanding place. Very Small things can kill a whole experience, like dirty table cloths, deteriorated utensils, poor Gardens menu, beach boys too insisting, room maintenance, toilet paper not fitting...

Nice and good value for money all-inclusive hotel

We had a nice 3-night stay at VOI Kiwengwa. The only downside was its large size (lots of people) and hordes of Italian tourists (they absolutely love to talk) so sometimes it was hard to relax and feel that you are in a unique place such as Zanzibar.

Beautiful new Italian resort with great food and dive shop

Expect to speak Italian in Africa when you stay here as its targeted and full of Italian tourists. Great dive shop on site, attentive, friendly staff, Biko at reception is exceptionally good. Beautiful beach and soft sand which they rake the seaweed away each morning.

Amazing food each day. Fresh Italian and international selections with fresh seafood each day.

Only negative is the beach boys and 'Masai security' that keep coming up to either sell something or hit on you when you want to relax. May be different when you travel as a couple or family, but it was just my friend and I (two females) at the time and they wouldn't leave us alone after numerous times saying no.

We found VOI a great experience for simply getting away for a few days and relaxing on a beautiful beach. We were greeted with juice and supper in our room since we missed dinner. The staff were thorough and knowledgeable.

The good- good beach location, nice pool, rooms big and all you need, cocktails are nice

The bad- buffet gets a bit tiring, completely Italian hotel (no English speaking ANYTHING- if you can't speak even basic Italian do not stay), all prices in euros, no ATM onsite or cash withdrawal possibility, food is mostly Italian. Every other guest was Italian and although they are friendly we felt left out. Reception staff lacking in knowledge and helpfulness however other staff eg waiters very friendly and able

The hotel is not a 4star, maybe a 3star. no TV in the room and room we had did not a a great view, we were looking into a grey wall which was depressing. the hotel is italian so we the english speaking could not participate in any programs the hotel was offering as it was in Italian. the food at the main restaurant was buffet which is as expected, okay. The sushi bar was a total let down as there was no fish in the sushi, just vegetarian. Rice and cucumber. We had lunch at The restaurant by the beach it was the worst lunch ever, we couldn't eat the fish which was cold and tasteless. The overall experience was a 3star experience while we paid for a 4star experience. We asked for an early departure but the hotel refused to refund us saying they have a no refund policy. Above all, there were two guys at the restaurant who made our stay better, they were amazing, Rashid and Mr Big. Thanks to these two guys, we could smile when we were there.

Christmas At AW Bravo

Well, me and my female colleague, decided to visit Zanzibar, with no prior knowledge of the hotel, we just picked the first thing that came up on Expedia.
On arrival we were shocked only a small number of staff were fluent in english, although it is dubbed an italian hotel, a level of english from all staff would be more beneficial to guest.
Everything was in italian, even notices, music, etc etc
Around the hotel, restaurant, pool area, we got alot of stares from other guest looking at us as though we were aliens or had 2 heads, i wouldn't want to say its because we were black, but we were the only black guests at the hotel. It was coming annoying to have people gawk at you with bizarre expressions on their faces.
The food was ok, it got slightly tiresome, i was getting bored with the fish dishes and the pasta, during our 5 day stay chicken was never on the menu, and my colleague fell sick with a running stomach on the 4th day.
The restaurant staff, Simba and Khatib were the most welcoming out of any of the staff at the hotel. The white staff failed to greet us, welcome or even speak to us, the manager and her team often walked past us like we were invisible.
I liked the hotel for the reason that, it had a beach view with beautiful white sands, the surroundings were also super but the hotel and its staff should be open minded and except people of all races and colour!

Felt like being in Italy!

The hotel is reasonable, definitely not 4 stars, but still good value for money, as the all inclusive deal includes EVERYTHING! Even alcohol at the beach bar, sunbeds etc. And is on a nice wide stretch of white sand.
Biggest problem for us was everything is set up for Italians. All signs in Italian, Italian food, staff spoke Italian, shop was in Euros etc. The guests were all Italian too. We got by with English, but would not recommend it!

Nice pool and surroundings

I went to this hotel having spent three nights at Nungwi beach up north. The grounds of the hotel and the room were extremely clean and well presented. The room was spacious and well equiped with air conditioning.
What disappointed me was that I did not find the reception staff overly polite or helpful and this resort clearly catered for Italian tourists. What was limiting by this is that all the signs around the resort were written in Italian and not English (including signs in my hotel room), the activities board to list events happening for the day were in Italian so I was therefore unaware that things were occuring and the food labels at the buffet for dinner, most only had Italian writing so I did not understand what I was eating.
If you are after a rest by the pool then maybe this place is not for you as there were staff designed to supervise the pool area and I found these people to be intimidating and make me feel uncomfortable as they would just sit on lounges beside me.

Overall this is a very good hotel. Rooms are basic but clean and service is excellent. This is a really all inclusive hotel. Everything is included into the price including drinks, watersport activities e.t.c
Keep in mind that this is an Italian hotel. Majority of the guests are Italians and all activities conducted in Italian language.

Nous avons passés 2 semaines à l’hôtel où nous avons eu la chance d’avoir une chambre vue piscine et mer . Les repas sont divers et variés avec bien sûr une connotation italienne , ce qui est normal étant un hôtel italien . Merci au directeur de l’hôtel pour ses attentions et son écoute ( et parle très bien français ) . Il y a une très belle plage avec suffisamment de transats pour se reposer soit à la plage ou autour de la piscine . Les beach boys sont présents sur la plage mais ils sont tenus à distance par des gardes .

ottima struttura situata su una spiaggia da favola con sabbia bianca finissima, parco curatissimo, personale simpatico, disponibile e molto attento a qualsiasi esigenza. Cibo ottimo. I ragazzi dell'animazione carinissimi e amorevoli. Tutti parlano italiano. Appena arrivati ci ha infastidito un pò la presenza assillante dei beach boys in spiaggia, ma una volta conosciuti si sono rivelati anch'essi gioviali e simpatici tant'è che ci siamo scambiati i numeri di telefono. Abbiamo fatto due escursioni organizzate dal resort: belle e ben organizzate. Unica cosa che non ha funzionato è stata la prenotazione che avevamo richiesto per il transfer dall'aeroporto al resort, non si è presentato nessuno ma abbiamo optato per un taxi, nessun problema. E' stata una bellissima vacanza. Grazie a tutti voi per averla resa indimenticabile!
