hotel and room are filthy, the pool is unusable and has trash in it. they offered a shuttle to the city. The took us there, told us to wait at the meeting spot in city at 4:30pm and we did, just to find out they forgot about us and didn’t come to us until after 5:15pm. we have no hot water in room. we had no water at all in room yesterday. there is a broken door lock in our room leading to outside and it’s a safety issue. The hotel is dirty and not well kept with lots of maintenance issues. Mosquitos in room, Squeaky bed, dated and worn furniture

This property was very unique, and had a very cool Eco vibe to it. It was located on the beach and the rooms were quite spacious and very comfortable. The only downside to this property is that there's nothing else really around it. You would have to take a taxi to get into town to access other restaurants. This didn't really matter too much though, as you can eat at one or two restaurants at the hotel.

Overall the Resort is very good, quite area, Staff and services are superb, the employees are always gentle and kind, they help in exceptional ways, the shuttle bus driver is a very nice and helpful person.
Breakfast was ok but missing decaffeinated coffee and soy milk or others vegetable milk and not many choices for vegetarian people.
The resort is quite far from Chewang area but that is totally fine because the area is very beautiful and the resort offers the free shuttle bus many times during the day.
For sure a Resort in Koh Samui that I recommend.

At first glance, hotel is beautiful and very scenic. But totally reliant on weather. I am shocked this has been given a 5 star rating, I wouldn’t even give it a 3. The pools are outstanding, unfortunately we came in a rainy season, no people here, no staff and a very bland atmosphere. Heavy rain created leaks in our room. Not properly cleaned, allot of ants in our room around the dressing table and over the kettle. A very dark, dated room, not allot of lighting so difficult to get ready at night with no natural light from outside. Smelt of damp, most likely due to leaks. Fine dining restaurant massively overpriced and staffed by one person. No music or atmosphere. Please be aware this hotel is very remote and will need to order a grab or drive to even a shop or bar / restaurant, taxis are expensive. 45 minutes away from the bigger tourist areas. We left 2 days early and booked another hotel in chaweng, which was a 3 star and much cleaner than this 5 star, also it is closer to night life and amenities. When we checked out, the staff didn’t even ask why we were checking out early or ask how our stay was, just gave us a form to fill out which they thew in a folder and put under the desk. This hotel is great if the weather is nice otherwise not allot you can do.

If wanting a quiet beachside stay in Koh Samui then Mai Samui is the island's best kept secret. It has one of the biggest pools with one of the best swim up to pool bars, an infinity pool too. The Buffett breakfast is fantastic and with 2 beachside resturants a short walk, along with cheap as beach massage and excellent coffee cafe it's a slice of paradise. Two free daily shuttles to Chaweng & Nathon provide excellent transport options if seeking action. The resort Spa is a la la ...bliss ! The staff seem to have a motto of \"guest you are valued\". Families and those who prefer quietness need look no further than Mai Samui. We have been to Koh Samui 4 times and staying at Chaweng Resorts & Mai Samui and everytime our Mai Samui stay is our favourite and sigh of relief to be back in paradise !

This resort is in desperate need of renovation, we decided to move to a new resort, pool tiles are broken, water level in the pools are low, the water quality is disgusting. The room was ok, but run down. There was a lot of construction sound. I felt sorry for the staff, as they were amazing, but the ownership and maintenance of this resort is letting their team down.

Arrived and the person at the reception desk had her AirPods in, no welcome just took passports and checked us in.

After dinner returned to room and there was a leak from the room above. Mentioned to the reception desk and they moved us to another room which was a downgrade on the room we had booked. The new room didn’t have sun loungers in the pool nor easy access to pool as booked. The following morning we asked to switch rooms which they did in the afternoon. No apology was given for the problems we faced.

The majority of hotel needs renovating including rooms and pool.

The fine dining restaurant also served option of same food as pub. We ordered crepes suzette then after 20mins we were informed they were out, we were the only ones in the restaurant that night. Then offered only chocolate or vanilla ice cream as only pudding.

Throughout the staff were more interested with their phones rather than providing the service we thought we would receive. Often had to grab their attention to order food and drinks.

Think it helped the hotel was only half full so nowhere was busy at all.

We spent 7 days at Mai Samui and I don't think they knew we were there. Even though we went to the front desk every day, needing, and I mean needing to ask for something, they were either clueless or gave us a bold-faced lie about something. My girlfriend is never has anything bad to say about anyone or anything and she, to my surprise, used the word \"awful.\" I agree. Facility is generally okay, good pool bar, but the staff seemingly had zero training in logic or hospitality and did not seem to care that we were there or wanted to get out of their chair for anything we had a question about or needed. BAD EXPERIENCE.

When we left, they literally said, \"Okay, goodbye.\" Did not feel welcome and they got our final bill wrong, of course. So many uses of the word \"no\" and most employees usually had an excuse for their ineptitude. We will be recommending AGAINST this hotel for all of our traveled friends with money. Too bad, so sad.

This definitely NOT a 5-star-property. Maybe it was once but not anymore. Property would need maintenance, room would need a proper cleaning! (Many places in room filled with dust.) Breakfast was weak - every day all the same, no real variety. Staff friendly but lacking real interest in what they do - they just do what’s needed and that’s it. Beach is unusable due to stones - you need to go to the left from the property to find some spots for going into the sea (you cannot really swim there as for a long distance the sea level is very low). The main pool is ok, the other pools I would not swim there as they were dirty (water as well as walls).
It’s really a shame - it could have been such a great hotel! Maybe once it was, but definitely not anymore.
And they still charge fees as a 5* hotel!
Only plus - the location is super quiet and relaxed.
We would not recommend this hotel and would not stay there again.

We spent a week at Mai Samui in May 2022 and it was amazing. The resort was very quiet during our time there - at times we were the only guests, and there was never more than 3-4 rooms booked - the island is only just recovering from COVID and they were doing some renovations (which never disturbed us at all). The staff were amazingly attentive and helpful -- we just messaged the manager to have meals delivered to our room, or poolside, or to head to the restaurant for dinner. All of the food was fresh & delicious. Our room was large, clean, and very comfortable, with direct pool access from our patio. The pool itself is worth the visit! Huge two-level pool, clean and fresh and just the right temperature to cool down during the day. The beach in front of the Mai Samui is not really suitable for swimming, and I wouldn't say it's the most beautiful beach we saw in Thailand, but it's lovely for a walk, and the sunsets were Instagram-worthy.

I can't say enough good things about our quiet stay at the Mai Samui after 2 weeks of touring the rest of Thailand. Highly recommended!

The hotel was in quite a secluded area of the island, it was a minimum 30 min drive to Chaweng beach which seems to be the hub of the island.

The room was clean and well air conditioned.

The food in the 2 restaurants were not great, but that may possibly be because we visited out of season in August. The breakfast was very good, however. The staff were friendly, but could improve their knowledge of good places to eat on the island. Also, the reception staff's English could be improved.

The beach was beautiful, but due to the strong winds, a lot of debris and rubbish was washed up and was not cleared away.

The staff are amazing, the facilities and layout of the resort is excellent. The rooms are great. The air conditioner cut off at one point, but it was fixed promptly. Also the TV is quite small and old. This resort is out of the way of the busier areas, so it is the perfect place to escape and unwind for a week or so at a good price.

Lovely peaceful hotel with a lot to recommend it. Nice restaurants close by (taxi or car hire needed). The pub restaurant serving Thai food on site is very resonable and very good food. Lovely setting and beautiful surrounds. We had ground floor garden rooms, perfect for our family. A few minor points, pillows a little tired and the cleaners often took robes, beach towels for cleaning but didnt replace ( easy to remedy with a call to reception). Also staff parked their motorbikes at the other side of the fence at the back of the room and this woke us once or twice when they left. But would definitely stay again for the laid back charm and facilities the hotel has to offer. Had a wonderful stay.

We got upgraded to the private pool room which was absolutely amazing view and spacious. The staffs are so lovely and friendly. My 2.5 years old daughter got a lot of attention and spoiled by the staffs. One of the best experience for us ;)

We stayed 4 nights, our bedroom was really nice and clean. There are three restaurants but we prefered to eat thai food cause we tried burger once and it was not good. Evenings were so quiet when we were there,so if you are looking for a more lively place be aware! We couldn't arrange a massage but it looks nice. Only demotivating thing was beach. We couldn't swim as the sea was not deep and clean. But the pool was okay.

Highly recommend this resort. Spent two weeks with my wife and teen daughter, Jan 2016. Absolutely stunning, friendliest staff, fabulous food. The breakfast is outstanding everyday and the choice of restaurants was always good food. Nothing was an issue for the friendliest staff ever. Far enough out of the hustle and bustle and close enough to everything, Koh Samui is and amazing destination and hope to return again soon!!

Great hotel, clean, very good service. Nice large rooms, well-equipped. Comfortable bed/pillows, satellite TV channels, nice swimming pools, great gym and steam room (all free to use).
Squash court not in great condition - uneven floor and very slippery, but OK for beginners - rackets and balls are free to borrow.
Breakfast buffet spread is very good - LOADS of variety.
MAJOR problem with this hotel's breakfast is the small area in which it is served. It's served from 6-11am, and most days we went around 9:30-10:00 because any time after 8am it's hard to find a table - we gave up twice and went back to our room and waited until later.
The food in the restaurants is good, but very pricey......recommend don't bother paying the exorbitant prices for any desserts - they're not worth it!
Apart from those 2 things, no other complaints - the service of the hotel staff was exceptional - we've stayed in many hotels in Thailand over the 10 years we've lived here, and would say the service/friendliness of the staff at Mai Samui surpasses most other hotels.
This is NOT a hotel to stay at if you want a nice sandy beach, and if you want to be able to swim in the sea/ocean. You can only swim in the ocean at high tide, and even then you only get waste deep in water, and there's rocks all over the seafloor - not very nice for swimming in. But the hotel swimming pool is massive and very nice for swimming.

Serenity on Koh Samui

Firstly I would say that I would recommend this hotel. We had a wonderful relaxing stay - the staff are wonderful. Highly recommended the lovely Hotel Manager and also the Guest Relations rep Nutanil.
We stayed in one of the luxury rooms with swim up terrace. The room was lovely and I loved the swim-up facility.
The beach area is nice but be aware that swimming is not easy unless the tide is in but the lack of current made swimming safe. We swam every day. Best to take swimming shoes.
The breakfast is very good. The food at the other two restaurant areas is reasonable but not 5*. There is sufficient choice and an additional beach restaurant area with a small amount of 'entertainment'. The lack of interior lounge area was surprising.
The food is fairly expensive for Thailand and the drinks even more so.
The hotel is fairly remote but does provide day time shuttle, free of charge for Chaweng (a lively town with lots of entertainment and restaurants etc.)
This is certainly not the most luxurious hotel we have stayed at but the serenity of the hotel, coupled with the wonderful room and staff made this a hotel that I would recommend to my friends.

Such a gorgeous place

The hotel is gorgeous! The entrance overlooking the grounds and pools is stunning! You really feel like you have arrived in paradise!
Reception staff were efficient and friendly. My room was amazing! My private entrance to the shallow pool was just outside my ranch slider! The wind was up while I was there so the beach wasn't so appealing but the pool is fabulous! The beach bar food menu needs improving, so does the service. The Fine Dining restaurant is lovely, again service could be improved. The Thai Food restaurant was lovely and service was on form. The buffet breakfast is vast and worth every penny! Overall, very happy with my stay

Relatively quick check-in, slightly confused though (complimentary drink and cookies provided). Free Wi-Fi provides (why shouldn't it be, its a basic necessity these days). Gorgeous room with great space and also love the theme and accent throughout the room. Warm and friendly staff as they try to accommodate our requests. Bathroom complete with rain shower and large bathtub. Great balcony (with generous amount of seating spaces) from which the view of the main pool and beach front was awesome
Love the \"connecting\" room concept where the connecting door was located outside (access through the balcony. This provides each room the privacy yet being very accessible)
Great variety of breakfast provided - love the banana fritters, waffles, cakes, fresh fruit juices
Great and large infinity main pool, and they had a smaller sand pool
Gym equipment / facilities with sauna / steam room, library room with computer access were provided (although I did not use these facilities)
Easy access to the beach, just take a simple walk and you're there

Overall fantastic holiday and perfect for those who need a break away from the city / night life. Definitely will be back. It's our new favorite resort in Koh Samui.

Beautiful hotel - Bad location

The hotel itself is really, really nice, but it's too far from anywhere. This means you have to either hire a scoooter or taxi if you want to eat out - which you'll want to do often as the prices are extreme at Mai Samui (dinner was 3 times the price compared to other places we ate later in the week). You also can't walk to any shopping or drinking spots. The resort is well equipped with everything though, so if you purely want to relax in one spot, and you're not worried about how much you spend, this is a great resort on the beach, with good food, gym, spa, amazing pool, swim up bar etc etc.

Amazing Hotel - awesome staff

Mai Samui is an amazing hotel. From the moment you walk into the reception area you are blown away by how beautiful this hotel is. Staff are delightful and nothing is a bother to them. Unfortunately the beach is not swimable but that gives you the opportunity to spend more time in the awesome pool. I can't speak too highly of this hotel and wont hesitate to come back at the next opportunity.

we arrived at night, so we could not see everything right away, but the hotel is great, the staff, the facilities, the food.
we liked and appreciated that they have a free shuttle from the hotel to chaweng beach, it saves a lot a of money.
we enjoyed the cold coconut juice, and the pool is the best.
it is a quiet location, the beach is nice and right in front of you, but you need to wear water shoes as the water is full of rocks and big ones too. the water is very shallow so you can get far away.
i would highly recommend the hotel.

Ginormous and Gorgeous swimming pool

There were a couple of very small things like the room not being ready on time, housekeeping forgetting things, my key stopping working but none of them did anything to dampen my stay there, I LOVED this hotel. The pools are amazing, there are 3 different swim up bars, the spa is gorgeous, it's one of the handful of great hotels on Samui where you can enjoy sunset. Loved it, got a cracking deal on Hotels.com and will definitely go again.

The hotel was quite nice. The beach area was sort of rocky instead of sandy, but the pool made up for it. The meals were very good, especially breakfast. The hotel arranged for shuttle service for us, and allowed us to buy ferry tickets there. Overall it was a nice stay, if a bit expensive.

Calm Hideaway

Mai Samui is a calm hideaway far from the busy beaches (of e.g. Chaweng). It offers exceptionally friendly service and you can easily stay there for a couple of days without even leaving the facility. If you still intend to do so, you may want to rent a motorbike (possible at Mai Samui) as the immediate neighborhood isn't offering too much exciting. - The beach at Mai Samui is ok but a bit flat and pebbly, but the fantastic pool facilities and the artificial \"beach\" area are definitely compensating for that. Some very nice and calm natural beaches can be reached within a 10min (motorbike). - We will definitely return to Mai Samui!

Absolutely beautiful!

This gorgeous hotel looked like a dream of a tropical vacation resort. It was absolutely beautiful, on one side. The resort was split in half by the street, with a lovely pebbled courtyard. Japanese garden-styled gates and paths traversed the elegant layered pools leading out to the beach and restaurant. The rooms had balconies overlooking the pool area. These were the rooms pictured online. However, our room was located on the other side of the courtyard in an apparently older section of the resort. The pool that our room overlooked was older and not nearly as attractive. Our paths were just sand or wooden boards. Our room was still lovely and comfortable and clean, though. The bathtub was impressively huge, until we tried to fill it with hot water. We got about 3 inches of water before it ran cold, and the stone of the tub was so cold it drew the warmth out of the water we did get. gorgeous, but not useful. The shower with the sunflower shower head was very nice, however. Over all I would definitely go back and stay longer!

Great little hideaway

I have to admit this hotel was pretty sweet. Yes it was quite away from the airport and all the action in chaweng beach, but it's accommodations and excellent staff make it a great retreat in a jungle like beach front resort. As you are driving down the road from the main street you're thinkin... where the heck are we going? but then you pull up to a driveway that is betwixt two asian pagoda style properties (both mai samui). My only complaints are that there are no elevators and the restaurants are expensive (western prices). Their thai night buffet was lackluster and pricey. Other than that, the zen like styling. The way that some rooms open up to pools is pretty nice. Some of the rooms require you walk through sand to get to them. And if you don't wanna climb 3 flights of stairs to get to your room, then you should request a room on the 1st floor. The breakfast buffet is pretty nice with ample choices and great taste. It totally doesn't reflect the manner in which the thai night buffet on the beach is served. Also, the staff is pretty endearing. Susan in the reception area makes it a point that you're happy. She takes her job seriously and goes above and beyond the call of duty. My friends and myself really appreciate her role at mai samui. Also, there are daily shuttles that will take you to chaweng beach. I'm really happy with this property. I would definitely recommend.

Needing improvements to get 4 or 5 stars

Staffs at check-in/concierge were not friendly/helpful at all, but the butler, spa therapists and waiters made us feel welcomed.

Hotel needs to work on pest control, as the balcony doors are not sealed, mosquitoes and little insects attracted to the night light were able to get inside the room thru the door gaps.

Spa was good value for the money.

Restaurants served good Thai food, not much wine selection though.

The transport is not very good. we ask the taxi to airport the hotel charge bh10000. then we walked 5 mins to a shop which cost us bh 600. We asked toothpaste 3 times and the hotel brought us the hamburger

The hotel was great. The service was AMAZING. it was away from the busy city center, quiet and relaxing. Great pool, good restaurants and cool ambiance. The hotel offered free shuttles to Chaweng beach, the happening spot in the island, which was great. The only downside was the wireless wifi - it was frustratingly weak in most areas of the hotel. But then again, you're on vacation - who cares about wifi.

Away from civilisation, beach condition a pass.

The beach condition is bad..the low tide is really low and too far to walk on dried up beah with sharp shells and dead corals.
Sand is replaced by rocky state with dead coral everywhere..the saving grace for this hotel is the pool facilities surrounding the rooms

Despite being offered free activity such as fishing and yoga ..it didn't materialise despite making booking..I.e. fishing..appointment was made according tot their suggested time for hight tide and yet we could not fish from their resort jetty due to low water..somewhere somehow communication if front desk with staff seems disjointed,

The resort is also extremely concerned abt bar usage not cleared..the check out time takes more than 30 mins,,so if u r in a rush..take note.

Site if hotel is 45 mins from other civilisation ..if u are looking for peace then this is it ..or else.be warned

Secluded Chilled Out Location

We researched Ko Samui Island and were looking for a more secluded Spa type location , that wasn't on the main busy section of Chaweng Beach , which we knew to be the “Party Central” beach.

We weren't disappointed and went in July 13 this is the “monsoon season” and it was quite overcast and rainy much of the time , that said MAI SAMUI is a very nice small secluded and exclusive feeling hotel spa, the quality of design around the hotel is very good and still quite new . So we would defiantly recommend this hotel if you are looking for something more secluded with a chilled out feel , if you want some partying or more eating out choices you will need to go out. The only very small point we might mention is that the soft sandy part of the beach is quite small , and the tide goes out a long way exposing small rocky areas , but you can walk along the beach without getting hassled by sellers unlike the beaches on the east . The Thai food is excellent and the Included Breakfast is comprehensive , but we found the International Restaurant not so good , but we are European !

We got a good deal on HOTELS.COM so the whole package was very good value indeed.

We would recommend MAU SAMUI.

Secluded hotel with empty beach and empty pool

Do not be put off by the rocky beach in front of the hotel. At low tide, sand banks are visible and they stretch for miles. The sea is clear, smooth and warm. The beach tends to be empty. Fantastic.

The key problem is that the vast majority of the staff do not speak English or understand English. Otherwise the staff are helpful. The spa is small but lovely. This is a boutique hotel with around 100 rooms but the pool is huge, inviting and is pretty empty.

The hotel is clean. The rooms are modern and well finished and appointed. If you want to relax, you will enjoy this hotel.

This hotel is not for people with walking disabilities. Steps everywhere, no ramps and no lifts.

Very nice resort with friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is quite isolated and not close to much, which makes it a perfect getaway from the real world if that's what you're looking for.
The sea is very warm, but quite shallow and the beach is not great, but the hotel makes up for it with 3 very nice pools.
One drawback is transport from and to the airport; the hotel charges 1000 Baht each way for transfers in a private car. The ride is good and easy, but very expensive when considering BKK airport to Bangkok is about 350 Baht in a Taxi. You may want to consider a shared minivan from Samui airport which will cost you 200 Baht per person.

Lovely resort with a great pool and facilities. The shuttle to Chewang was free and really useful because there isn't much nearby - which is fine if you want relaxation.

Happy hour cocktails from 1-6pm were great and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Don't bother!

The photo shows sand on the beach but once we arrived it was all rocks. I asked a receptionist and she said they don't fill it with sand anymore. Either way this is false advertisement. The bath tub was not scrubbed etc. We asked for their help with calling a taxi since their free shuttle is over for the day, they wouldnt help us and kept pushing us to use their hotel car at very high rates. The only good thing was their bellman captain helping us and the buffet breakfast was good.

Too expensive if no online special prices & vouchers are purchased. It is in a remote location for some & this may be an issue. The Hotel daily Shuttle Bus should consider a later time for the last pick up from town @ ~ 6pm rather than the current 4pm!?

There are lots of positives about this hotel
Staff friendly and most of them helpful .
Food can be expensive although the Thai buffet was good value for money.
The hotel is quite remote but that suits some people .
The beach could do with a clean .
Overall I would recommend this hotel .
Not sure that I would stay there again as we had teenagers with us and this hotel is better suited to couples or people with young children.

The hotel is very nice, huge pool, pool bars, etc..However the location is a bit far away from everything, taxi fare expensive. Worst of all, the service is sometimes very bad, especially be careful when you book a taxi for the airport because they often make mistakes of time/day, or room number....That's a shame, could have been much better

We really enjoyed the hotel and its amenities. The bathroom was truly fabulous, among other things. The resort had nightly special buffets on the beach that gave guests a lovely vista each night. My only complaint is that the Muzak tapes recycled far too frequently.
