A lovely hotel , we had a deluxe room , the bed was comfortable , breakfast incl. which was great. It’s a short walk out to the main road, and about 10 mins from old town, the staff is excellent , it’s quiet and clean. Pretty spot to stay.

The property was very charming and I enjoyed my stay. It was rather tired though - worn carpets, lights not all working etc. It could use a bit of TLC! I liked the ambiance though and staff were very friendly. It's a bit far from the Old City to walk, but we used Grab and were into the heart of things very cheaply in about 10 minutes.

The staff is amazing, friendly and the hospitality is wonderful! They help set up taxis for you, and you receive a free buffet style breakfast every morning! Will stay here again for sure.

The property looks and feels old. It was okay for a short stay and convenient to where I needed to be. Lighting in the corridors was not good - very dark. Lift and. Corridors were sort of carpeted - carpet was not fixed too the floors, and edges were frayed so the wheels of my suitcase kept getting caught. Room was very basic.

Basic hotel but just what you need if you want something quiet/ out of the city to relax. Small pool but beautiful. Very chilled vibe. Restaurant has a small menu but the food is really good if you just want a snack or want a night in for dinner. Breakfast is great - loads of options - best of all - fresh homemade pancakes!

Basic hotel but clean, nice vibe, peaceful. Out of the city but short ride into the centre. Beautiful pool (small) and sun beds (less than 10) Staff were lovely and always helpful. Breakfast was great - big variety and fresh pancakes!!! Restaurant has a small menu but great if you just want to stay in or grab a snack. Beautiful old dog ready to greet guests is super friendly. Overall great vibe is you just want somewhere quiet to recharge.

On positive notes, the hotel was looking nice with the pool and all that especially on Expedia website. The pricing was more than appetizing and mouth watering. So I booked. Oh well. Reception desk staff was pleasant, welcoming and speaks a decent English. That’s huge in Thailand as most Thai people are clueless with English speaking despite the fact that tourism is a major source of income for the country. The hotel has two pool areas and a restaurant which is spacious and airy and both are beautifully located.
Negatives: the room is cramped, bedsheets are old and worn out. You did not definitely get a sense of a clean room like that. There was hardly any space to put your stuff. You don’t feel well rested and refreshed staying in a room like that. The bathroom was also small but just enough to get your job done. The look outside from our room wasn’t great either and kind of tini tiny balcony was also very old and poorly maintained. Outside toilets looked so not clean and unwelcoming. The worst part was that there were mosquitoes and, there were signs to close the door asap as you come in and out of your room. That was not cool. That drove us moved out the evening we came in without staying over night. However to be fair, I love the English speaking staff and the affordability provided that you can stand being bit by mosquitoes. They say risk of contracting malaria in Chiang Mai is low. I certainly hope so.

Rainforest Chiangmai was a perfectly okay place to rest our heads for 2 nights. My husband and I arrived to Chiang Mai pretty late and initially had difficulty locating this hotel, as its name is different from what is listed. Once we found the proper location we felt much better. After we arrived, the hotel was a bit underwhelming in the nighttime, however, the following day was much better. Breakfast was yummy and the outside atmosphere was beautiful.

The staff was great, very kind and accommodating, helped us book some tours. The hotel is a bit outside the city, which was actually wonderful, since Chiang mai can be quite busy and noisy. There was 2 pools, a nice restaurant with decent food. There was always a taxi available outside the hotel, which we used every day to get places. About 150-200 Bhat, 10 min drive to downtown. We also used the laundry service offered across the street by the taxi service, much cheaper than in the hotel. We got massages at the spa, and the massage therapist was wonderful! However, the spa is located in the basement under the pool and smelled terribly of mold. I almost couldn’t stand being there for an hour. Overall a good experience!

The Best!

The Rainforest Hotel is so beautiful and the amenities are great! I stayed only for 1 night but it makes you feel as if you are in your own lush upscale jungle paradise. The food at the restaurant is delicious and fair prices and the breakfast is unbeatable, with lots of variety for any adventurous or picky eater! 10 out of 10 would recommend and will be staying there again when I come back to Chiang Mai

Our room was not very clean though and there was mold in both bathrooms. The bathroom windows would not close and their were holes in the mesh so bugs kept getting in.

It’s a little farther than I expected from Chiangmai. The hotel run taxis etc at a good rate. They also run day trips to all places worth visiting. The hotel will pick you up from airport for 400 THB the local taxi will cost 200THB. the breakfast was excellent.

Ok so the thing is it doesn’t really look like the photos at all. But alas I enjoyed my stay. The rooms were okay. And there are two building, one’s more of a lodge where we were expecting to stay and where I’m guessing the photos are from, the other is more of a building, the rooms we were in were more dorm like and the beds not great. But there were plenty of positives: the free transport to the market, the distance to the market, and the staff were brilliant. Honestly it did what it was supposed to and for the price it definitely was worth it’s value.

Overall this was my favorite hotel in Chiang Mai. It has a wonderful atmosphere and a great escape from the busy city. The location of the hotel was pretty far from the main visiting areas, but the hotel provides shuttles and there are taxis everywhere. The pool was clean and tranquil. The staff was AMAZING and accommodating. The room was clean and peaceful. My friends and I loved this hotel!

My only criticism is the room only had a window towards the back bathroom area. The bedroom quarters did not have a window, so it was dark all day. Made it hard to wake in the morning. Taxi booking fiasco

We moved here for our last night in Chiang Mai so that we could be close to the bus station for our early start the following morning. The main reason for our low score overall was how we felt we were being scammed by the hotel when we booked a private taxi to take us to the bus station the following morning (10 minute ride at most). We were told it was booked and that we would have to pay the driver and the cost would be 120 Baht, a little on the expensive side but we thought that with a car at least it would be quick and comfortable. The morning we were leaving, we reminded the reception that we had booked a taxi, there was a look of confusion and some checking and we were asked to wait in the lobby. The time came and went and 5 minutes after the due time we went back to reception to ask about the car, we were told to come outside and it would be arriving. It was clear that no booking had been made and we were being expected to pay 120 Bt for a local song theaw, a van-like shared transport we had used a lot round Chiang Mai and were ok with, but not the price! They usually charge 30 Bt per person and we'd even had a round trip out of town for only 100 Bt earlier in our stay. What's more, we were expected to share the van with other guests; unacceptable as we thought we'd booked a private car for that price. We negotiated to bring the price down, but it was irritating when we thought we'd booked a car, like at other hotels. Not impressed! Otherwise, ok hotel at best.

Great Hotel - lovely staff!!!

So here is my take on my stay at the Rainforest Boutique Hotel in Chiang Mai.
Pros:
1 Front desk staff, porter, cleaning staff, restaurant staff: they were all GREAT POLITE and FRIENDLY!!! Kudos to all the staff at the hotell.
2. Breakfast was good and had many selections to make.
3. Hotel is surrounded by canopy of rainforest trees and plants - I loved this concept.
4. For the money I paid, it was a bang formy bucks!
5. Hotel is within short distance to night market and railway station.
6. My room was cleaned every day - new bedsheets, water bottles, towels, and replenished toiletries - loved this!
7. Room service and massage - which I didn’t try in their designated place.
8. They have 2 lovely swimming pools.
9. They gave me a key chain as gift as parting gift - mindyou no other hotel has done this kind of gesture - and I appreciate their gesture.
Cons:
1. Hotel really need new painting done.
2. Due to rain and water puddles there were mosquitos - and I will be honest I gotten bitten few times - and it’s no fun. These are parasites. So carry itching in case if get into this kind of situation.
3. Hotel should make a serious effort into spraying mosquito insecticide over these standing puddles to prevent mosquitos from laying their eggs.

Nonetheless, I am still going to give this hotel a 4.5 stars rating for their kindness and politeness and all the above treating me during me during my short stay and mind you I stayed there for 9 nights. I loved it though.

Hotel 10 minutes by rum tuk to night market, temples. Hotel surrounded by rainforest - loved this concept. Breathing good oxygen at night from rainforest trees. Breakfast food is good. Only drawback: WiFi keeps on dropping. I loved visiting Chiang Mai - kinda laid back atmosphere - not like Bangkok at all. Many places to visit if you time. Go to Mae Kun waterfalls. It was refreshing swimming there. Need lots of walking stamina to go there.

Great place to stay away from the city center

This was a great hotel that offers an alternative to staying out of the busy city center. This hotel is nestled a couple of kilometers from the city center which is nice if you don't want to be in the middle of it all. We only stayed here for 2 nights. The restaurant is great and offers a nice place to sit and relax overlooking one of the pools. We spent most of our time out and about and only came back to the hotel to rest. The staff is very friendly and will help you with anything. We even took an additional 2 day trip to another part of Thailand on motorbikes and were able to leave a couple of bags at this hotel while we ventured around the country side. Overall great place to stay and would recommend.

Needs some work but has potential.

I booked the Rainforest through Hotel.com and was very surprised by the incredible talent of the photographer. The hotel was very run-down and not at all what the pictures made it out to look like. We rented 2 family rooms and were pretty surprised by the rampant mold in bathrooms, soggy ceilings, VERY dingy bedding and towels....(none actually white) sheets had holes and pillows were old and dirty looking. The staff was very friendly and accommodating however. They were all great to work with at the pool, restaurant and front desk. In my opinion, the owner should renovate the rooms, take care of the black mold issues (worst in bathrooms) and replace all bedding and linens. This hotel has a lot of potential with the right leadership. The pools are lovely and so is the dining area. Food was very tasty and well presented.

Nice hotel outside of oldtown but too many flaws

I liked the hotel at arrival. It is located outside the oldtown but on an easy walking distance from the night market. On the way back we always passed by a thai dessert shop and a sweetsoup stall. So we enjoyed our walk.

But about the hotel... The room is good, it is clean, spacious enough for us. Then the downside the bathroom need a facelift. A tub that you dont use. (There are 2 pools at the hotel open until 10pm) there is no good showerhead, the ventilation is poor. That you can see back at the wall.
The bathroom I could live with for a few days but the next issue is the wifi. We experienced ok wifi in the morning but in the evening before sleeping we had freezes, unable to connect, .. Too me it seemed a capaciity problem. We were unable to arrange the next part of our trip in the evening.

So would I stay here again.. In this condition ..no.

Rainforest is very difficult to review. I can only be honest. When I first checked in I was not happy with this room. I did not feel I would be secure. For one thing the safe only worked with one number and you could not change it. As it turned out my feelings were misplaced.

There was not much wrong with the room it was clean. I felt the pictures really flattered what the room was. I did not like when you took a shower the bathroom was unusable until the floor dried.

We stayed for 3 days and the place kept growing on me. The people at the front desk were just so pleasant. It was a pleasure to walk by.

The breakfast was very good and the bed was comfortable but I found the room small.

I think the place would be best suited for an older crowd who want to get away from the hustle and bustle and pollution of Chaing Mae.

It was very close to the train station which was a real benefit for us.

If you book here I suggest you get a room with a view of the pool. It is very beautiful on that side.

This place is very unique, They have a name for it that escapes me.

Two great pools,one salt water one fresh.

A great hotel! We spent a lot of time using the amenities such as the bar and pool areas. The only, unfortunately huge downside was that our room was adjacent to the stairs. It sounded like giants having a hoedown every time a group would come in or out. I don't think people were particularly loud, it seems to be somehow connected to the acoustics of the room. No idea! Frustrating but overall we loved the place.

Rainforest Boutique Hotel
It is slippery around pool area when wet, where everyone must past to climb the rickety stairs going to the restaurant that has little to offer in the way of culinary delights. The hallway and rooms at least on the north side have some anti art nouveau painted on the floors in green and brown with leaves. The wood shingle roofs leaks.

Other than the train station there is nothing out there. The nearest elephant park is a forty minutes drive from Rainforest.

In the rooms at Rainforest Boutique Hotel have no hot water at the sink, little place to put your soap or shampoo in the shower, nor a place for a towel and no exhaust fan. Yes minor inconveniences.

The pool area and base of stairs going from the office to pool and restaurant needs to be etched so that there will be more traction before someone is injured.

Coco Rooms are Great for the Bathtub

I've stayed here a few times now and i choose it because it has a rooms with huge bathtubs and because its away from Old City and close the train station. Chiang Mai is super fun your first time or two but once you discover your own favourite city in Thailand, CM just becomes a jumping off point. For me anyhow.

I have some chronic health issue so i use this hotel to decompress from the flight (and skip Bangkok altogether) so the giant bathtubs in the \"Coco\" rooms. I soak in this for hours. Also the bed is great and the room is clean and well appointed.

The breakfast could use an upgrade and the room service food is disappointing - especially since most restaurants - no matter how humble - serve great food, but they may be trying to cater to farang tastes. The staff seem disinterested and there's no friendly smile and welcome as you see most places in the\"land of smiles\" but they are sifting through a lot of fresh tourists so cant blame too much. The place stays busy with families and couples seeking tours which isnt my usual crowd but you gotta start somewhere. They offer free ride to the night bazaar.

I do a lot of traditional Thai massage and this place was the most lackluster and disappointing i had (i do daily) and twice the price of elsewhere. I tried their service for convenience but should of hopped a ride to a better place. Again, not a massive problem but worth noting in case you think that's as good as Thai massage get.

Pokey Rooms but Ok for a short stay

Staff were very pleasant and helpful however rooms were a little pokey and noise from adjoining rooms was clearly audible. TV reception did not work. Pool was refreshing after a days touring around Chiang Mai. Restaurant provided great breakfasts and evening meals. Conveniently located to Chiang Mai Railway Station it is a taxi or Tuk Tuk ride to the Old City and Night Bazaar.

We would stay here again.

The folks here are very accommodating. Our first room was no suitable for our situation and they changed it up for us gladly. The Coco Delux section has no elevator. Some family rooms have two bathrooms. For getting around free night market transport at 8 you pay 150 bht to get back. Mr. Lucky and his two sons are outside the hotel and can give private van transport to areas you might like to see at reasonable prices. The resaurant serves good food, also reasonable prices.
Casual and comfy hotel. Pay 100 bht to get to the old town.

Charm and character, with comfort.

Could almost be in the country, it's quiet but only a couple of hundred metres from busy shopping streets. The lobby area has big ceiling fans, comfortable seats. The staff are excellent, very helpful and friendly, and we're good with my husband who has a problem with stairs. The restaurant is upstairs so they served us on the terrace in the evenings, bringing food and drinks down to us. We did need to go up there for the buffet breakfast though. A good choice of food, Thai and international, at low prices. I would go back like a shot! Only slightly less good thing I would say was that the bed was a bit firm.

I will recommended this hotel to all because the staff are nice and feel relax for stayed.
Hotel provided shuttle at 8pm to Night Bazaar for guest.
You may get whatever information from Front Office staff and they will assist you as you need.

Horrible Hotel! DO NOT stay here.

This is the first time we have cut short our stay in a hotel, EVER, while on a vacation. This, despite having a non-refundable rate. So, you only imagine our plight. This hotel is a disaster. DO NOT trust the pictures the property has posted here on any other hotel booking site. My wife, daughter and my old parents checked in and they found the room/property dirty, rooms too small and the bathrooms outside the room. The person on duty in the evening was not helpful either initially, even though my family asked for a better room and were ready to pay. I was not traveling with them and it almost ruined my family's vacation. I had to call Hotels.com customer care and they were quite helpful. I booked them in Holiday Inn for the rest of the stay and everything was fine thereafter. But I will certainly remember this hotel for the rest of my life and will make sure that no one, who i know, ever stays here.

key to room worked only when it felt like it, tv had only four channels, internet not working, and on arrival and then later reception asked for more money for same room we had chosen via Expedia's lower quote. at checkout had to demand a receipt as they claim they don't normally give one and were extremely reluctant to provide one to us etc. etc. etc.

Upmarket hotel but not the best location

Positives:
- the Coco deluxe room is worth the extra price for its space and the bathtub
- you can choosing between the 2 swimming pools based on the crowd
- you can rent a scooter right outside the hotel, without a deposit (no need to hand over your passport either!)
- the (complementary) breakfast buffet is extensive and filling, though a tad repetitive

The only negative I can remember is that the wifi barely worked in our room

Since this hotel is located about 4 km away from the Old City, I would rather stay closer to the Old City if I visit Chiang Mai again.

Hidden Gem in Chiang Mai

This place is paradise hidden! Amazing room with our own private pool/tub/spa! The restaurant is another hidden gem. Lived in CM for three years and found the best Pad Thai on our last night in their restaurant. Breakfast was plentiful and nicely presented. My only complaint were the slippery tile floors. Scary to think of falling near the pool, at the bottom of stairways, in my garden and ruining such a blissful experience. Get that issue remedied and you will truly have created Paradise!

A bit out of the way

Rainforest Boutique is an ok hotel but in a lot of disrepair. I stayed in the Coco wing which was supposed to be the most luxurious. There was no natural light in the main bedroom and the lanna bath wasn't really worth the extra cost.

The location was a bit of a pain due to needing a taxi to get into the old town although there is the free transfer to the night bazaar every evening.

If I had my time again I would stay in the old town. If you want to only do organised tours and prefer peace in the evenings then I would recommend Rainforest. I would have preferred the flexibility of a more central location.

Rustic oasis?

pros: service was great, rooms were clean and the food passed as hotel Thai food.
cons: beds were rock hard, AC was not cold and my room did not have windows so it was dark.
overall: had a fun stay and the pool was very nice. location is fine, 100 to 150 bat tuk tuk ride to the old city. For the money, not a bad stay but I would spend a few more dollars for a more comfortable bed.
