This is my second time stay here, last time it was bad - this time it was worst. I booked it because there was no other hotel that was available in that area. In the night it rained heavily and water was splashing inside the room from through the window. The curtains were broken. The staff were nice but this is hotel is overpriced for what it offers. The staff though nice, did not know clean practices, they were using no gloves when then were preparing food for breakfast in the buffet area. Please do something to Feedback the hotel or rate them as 1 star hotel.

Like: Location walkable into town and the rock carvings. On a large plot running down to the sea and huge pool. Cottage was spacious with view over golf course to the sea. Staff friendly and helpful. Large comfortable bed.
Dislike: Sunbeds need renewing. 2 of stairs into pool broken. Litter not cleared away.No chairs/ sun beds on the beach and unfinished buildings next to the beach. Resort needs some TLC which may have started as lobby area being renovated.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Though the resort is on the beach the waters could be rough but the pool at the resort is absolutely hugh so it was like swimming at a beach. Close to the beach meant one could take quiet walks on the beach. Resort is just near Five Rathas and energetic tourists can walk to most of the sites as traffic is horrendous and grid locked.
Amenities are great, rooms modern, clean and comfortable. Breakfast buffet is fantastic. Great choice of menu food day round. Buffet dinner at reasonable cost is fantastic.
Staff, especially Kumar at the reception desk, was very helpful and attentive to guests needs. Room service is prompt. Kumar also organised transport for us to get to the airport.
All in all wonderful, relaxing experience amongst bustling Mahabalipuram! Lovely quiet gardens to wander around as well.

We stayed for four days. On Day 1, we were in room number 317, and the next day, we moved to room 316. The AC was noisy, the TV and intercom were not working, and the floor tiles in room 316 were broken. Additionally, the doors were in bad condition, and we found torn towels.

Superb place, will visit again

If you want to enjoy a resort with private beach and loads of peace, this is the place to be.
It is beautiful and scenic, an old resort but enjoyed every day. The food at the restaurant and hospitality is superb

The guests wore masks but the staff in the restaurant didn’t.
The check-in was confusing but quick.
When we ordered food in the restaurant they took more than an hour to bring the food and brought the wrong dish. So we went outside the resort to have our meals after the first day.
I will most certainly avoid this resort in the future.

Worst stay.

The stay has been the worst. We were shifted to another room stating electrical fault and after we shifted the same room was allotted to someone else.
The néw rooms ACs were not working. Till late 11:00 PM hotel couldn’t find a remote for the ACs.
The room being closed didn’t have windows so that fresh air could come. The hotel staff didn’t have any technician to mend the AC. We were forced to sleep in hot and humid situation.
It was the worst experience and worst holiday.
The support staff are useless and unsupportive.

Worth spending time with family to relax, enjoy

Stay was comfortable, service by the staff was friendly and quick. The resort is well-maintained, and it has good outdoor and indoor games and children play area. Had a good time with family. Has a private access to beach and well maintained large swimming pool (but no separate kids pool area). Is close to many monuments which are a must visit for anyone coming to Mahabalipuram.

Great property but over priced

Great property however not value for money. Basic sports facility and mini bar items were way too high. A pack of Rd 10 chips was charged as Rd. 185 in the mini bar.
We also found the room tariff higher than usual, if I compare it with similar other 5 star properties like Radisson Boy, etc.
The service of the staff was great and the staff members were extremely welcoming.

Best hotel in the area

The hotel is slightly outside Mahabalipuram but within walking distance of main attractions, which is actually a good point. The staff is extremely nice and helpful. One has to assess this hotel keeping in mind it does not compete with international standards we know in Occident. For the local standards it is close to a palace. However rooms might need a bit of refresh, especially bathroom. The food served in the hotel is extortionately expensive compare to local prices but it remains affordable, it is very good, fresh and above all, safe for our fragile European stomachs.
The hotel has an amazing swimming pool, clean but also in need of a bit of refurbishment. There is a nice bar close to the shore, the beach is not great out there but that's the same all along that cost.
We spend a week as a family with small children and we have nothing to complain about, again, the staff kindness is the best part of this place.

Good property let down by horrid rooms

Lets start with what was good, the staff and their earnestness and the property from the outside. The private beach area, pool area and villas look very good. But inside the rooms are a complete shambles. The bathroom was poor and the quality of curtains, beddings and linen were poor. It made for a very uncomfortable stay. We shortened it to 1 night as we could not imagine another night here. To call the room a deluxe room is a lie. It was plain poor and even the corridor to the room gave a feeling of a run down hostel. As I mentioned, the staff was honest and tried hard but clearly they have been let down by the support system and management training.

Great Hotel, but go in cooler weather! Not May.

We realized why the deal seemed so cheap! It was at the hottest time of the year.
We soon learned to go out very early to walk, or swim in enormous pool, and then rest in the well air conditioned room during middle of the day, them go out around 4pm. Free WiFi was good and TV provided some good shows.
Hotel will soon have Ayervedic Spa with many treatments offered.
Mahabalipuram has amazing history - located near the very ancient Five Rathas, (Five Chariots, 5th Century) sculptured from original rocks on one base. Walk early in morning. As well some beautiful temples just a short taxi trip away. Local markets nearby (Walk or Auto rickshaw). A taxi ride to village of Mahabalipuram - had ATM's and Pharmacies & was interesting & worth a visit. Loved how it was not over commercialized.

Amazing resort next to world heritage site

Peace, tranquility and enjoyable experience is synonymous with Chariot resort. Had a extremely satisfying experience during my stay here. Very strategically, walk-able distance to world heritage site and private beach makes this is as a dream holiday destination. Good maintenance and every staff was very cordial and friendly

The TV and tea pot did not work. Had to complain to manager before issue resolved.
The bathroom had a huge gap under outside door. I was concerned about insects coming in the bathroom and in our room. Manager put towels in gap. Issues resolved. Friendly staff.

I chose a ``sea view deluxe room\" - it was a bit of a disappointment as the sea was real far away, and I should have gone with a regular room.
The positives - nice location, clean premises, spacious room, great breakfast buffet, great swimming pool.

Negatives - Given that I was paying INR 10K/night, I would have expected free Wifi, better quality toiletries and an elevator to get to my room.
The safe deposit box in my room was not functional, and the staff expressed their inability do do anything about it. The toiletries were
really cheap quality. The food in the restaurant is ridiculously expensive - so we ended up going out to town for dinner.

Overall, though we enjoyed our stay, the bottom line is that this place is
very pricey.

This place was not what i thought it would be. I knew the reviews were ok only, but i still thought i should give it a chance. I was very wrong. The food was way too expensive for the quality. The kettle didn't work and when we got a new one it blew the fuse to the room. They had the old kind of electrical outletes and didn't even have electrical converters for us to be able to use. one staff member promised my husband to get him one as ours wouldn't work either in the outlets. Never saw one and when we went back to them a couple hours later the staff member had left and nothing had been done. The appearance in certain places of this hotel look like it has not been maintained. Not a good experience at all.

When I booked this hotel, I read all the reviews on Expedia that talked about the attitude of the management. I should have listened. But silly me thought, it's only one night. Well, the manager told us that a gala was included in the price, so we went and then charged us for it the next day at checkout and wouldn't let us leave until we paid. Managed to raise enough hell that they let us leave after paying half the cost, but feel thoroughly cheated. In the US, a customers satisfaction means more to a company than a few dollars, but not here. I will never book a room at this hotel despite the excellent facilities and friendly staff and strongly recommend that no one else does either.

An average experience.

We had a decent stay. Could have been better if the hotel dining staff work on their promptness and cleanliness at the morning buffet. Also the dining experience overall wasn't great. The food also needs improvement. Wasn't happy with room given to us, the bathroom smelt terrible. Ok request they sprayed room freshener couldn't change our rooms which I would've opted for because it was a long weekend and the rooms were full. Also please note the rooms were full because the capacity of the hotel isn't extensively large. So unlike what I had thought the rooms were full only because there weren't too many available!

The property was kind of ok. The big plus is the massive swimming pool but other facilities were lacking, for example, no spa facilities were available for ladies, uncomfortable beds and other recreational activities. These were really disappointing.

The mode of transport is gonna be quite difficult if you didn't own a car. The auto guy whom the hotel receptionist had called, asked 200 rs for a 1km ride from th. Resort!!

Coming to the food part, surprisingly the restaurant served amazing food. Thought the price was on a higher side,it was worth it.

Our family stayed at Chariot Beach Resort for only one night but we had a terrible experience because of the attitude of the Hotel Manager. The Hotel Manager was very unprofessional, rude and unkind towards all of us and we were shocked and disappointed with the service of the Manager and his staff. I had traveled across the globe and stayed in various places like USA, Europe and Asia but never encountered such a bad experience in my life time. I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone.

FuturePotential to be one of the Best Beach Resort

An excellent Infrastructure which makes you say WOW what a place. We had taken a Suite which means our cottage was facing the sea. In my opinion the place is being further beautified with more trees and plants being planted. The internal track/ road is made out of loose stones which makes it difficult to walk. The service is polite, helpful and customized, but in my opinion it could take some more professional learning. The breakfast could have some more options and service staff specially if there is a peak season load. The BEST thing is the private and clean beach and the beach side restaurant. We spent hours on the beach and in the beach side restaurant. Kids LOVED this.

Comfortable stay

The wife and I made a spur of the moment decision to crash overnight at Mahabs and wanted a nice quiet room overlooking the beach/pool/garden. While the rooms were good, the lack of a balcony was a major disappointment. The pool is good but noisy on most mornings. There is a private beach which is a short walk away, past the cottages, which are not close enough to give you a good sea view, so I'm thankful for not having been ripped off by booking that!

Room service, in-house restaurant and breakfast buffet service was slightly above average. On the whole, it was a slightly expensive getaway at its price point though the proximity to the attractions and the beach kind of made up for it. The restaurants serving alcohol was a major plus!

Excellent Location and service. Walking distance to monuments. Only issue was waiter in the restaurant that had order incorrect and tried to explain we were wrong. Manager got involved and fixed issue. Chef Umesh was great in preparing the correct food. Not all menu offerings were available, but that could be more due to the tour bus that was staying at the hotel the same time. Would and have recommended this hotel to others both locally in India and here in US.

Really nice Hotel - with a small flaw...

Almost everything about the hotel is very good indeed. The pool is lovely and 60M long with ample sunbeds and mega-attendant staff. There is a large number of VERY helpful and friendly staff who simply can't do enough for you.

The rooms (we had a bungalow) are great, spacious, clean, smart and attractive. This is also true of the hotel and grounds. It is about 1km fascinating walk into town - or you can get a taxi or tuk-tuk. At one end of the beach is India's oldest stone built temple - there are two UNESCO temples near plus lots of others and they are stunning. The restaurant is very good (don't drink the wine here or anywhere in Tamil Nadu, but the beer is good).

The town has an excellent set of shops and many good restaurants. We are told that Turtles lay eggs on the beach, which is deserted except near the temple - and many km long.

The downsides: The internet is useless - there is a wi-fi connection but it is broken and they no longer uses it - and said they had no plans to fix the server. Instead they use phone-dongles, and they often can't even get them to work. when they do they are expensive, incredibly slow (1 or 2 k speed) and patchy. They don't seem to understand this can be a problem. If you ask a manager for help on anything it is either sorted quickly or not at all, management don't ever get back to you re problems.

There are many things I loved here - especially the individual staff, but they take the edge off it with very poor management.

A perfect place for relaxing.

A perfect place to stay after an exhausting trip round Southern India. Rooms are clean, staff very friendly and the food good. The cottages facing the Indian Ocean are excellent as they always have a breeze. The hotel is only 15 minutes walk from the town which is a busy, enjoyable place to eat in and visit the wonderful historic sites.

The hotel was quiet and so seemed a little tired. The staff were excellent and when the planned changes have been made will be really good. Room was clean and large enough for our purposes. A list of spa services and prices located in the room would have encouraged us to use them, they were located on the very lovely beach which is much cleaner than a more famous nearby resort, hay said cannot vouch for the water. As with so many things Indian there was a lack of attention to detail. Overall a good experience.

I had stayed this hotel in two days, I have booked standard room. If you are going for relaxation, then I would not recommend standard room. It is like in other restaurants. This is far from main bus stand. So, if you don't have car, it would be difficult to commute.

Fantastic resort with few glitches overall good..

Chariot Beach resort is a nice resort by the Sea shore. Amazing pool and spacious rooms are positives. The resort has lot of amenities like the pool, quad biking, adventure area, sports facilities but seems like not all are maintained well. The pool is the best part in the resort apart from the beach. The food and bar could have been better thought.

Great place to relax

This hotel is a great place to relax. the beach is pristine and the pool is fabulous. Food is good too, came with a complimentary buffet breakfast, the dinner was great too. The only complain I had was the bathroom smelt bad. Dont know why. and the Hot showers did not work well, the water pressure kept switching from low to high. Ended up using the bucket and jug. This hotel is close to the Mahaballipuram temple.

We expected something much better, the location is far from the city center and all the mains activities, Quality of service is very bad, not professional at all, Comfortable but not a charming room, the swimming pool in maintenance whereas nobody was in the hotel expept us that is unacceptable according to the price of the room. The worst was the restaurant, horrible food, (tomato soup is ketchup with water...) it's not fresh food, expensive without any taste and horrible service also.

One day stay

Three of us stayed in a sea view cottage which had two queen size beds and was very nice.
The only problem was with the bathroom as the floor does not have any demarcation for the shower area and the entire floor is wet after a shower.
The exhaust fan too did not work but this problem could be solved by opening the second door which let to an enclosed outside shower area in which to wash if covered in sand etc.
Another small problem was only a single coffee mug was left for us and when we requested more they only arrived the next morning.

Breakfast was superb with enough variety to please most people. The staff were very hospitable.
Dinner was a la carte and grilled fish with vegetables was superb.
Masala fish or squid can be hot unless advised to make it mild.

The Ayurvedic massage with herbal oil was good and there is a shower and soap to wash it off afterwards.

The private beach makes it safer due to the presence of a security man.
A Seafood restaurant is due to open soon beside the beach.
The fresh water pool is of a good size but we did not use it as we only stayed one night.

It is close to the carvings and temple. The buggy service within the resort is helpful.

Great first stop on India

We we going to take our daughter to be married in a Hindu ceremony, and the Chariot Beach was our first stop to acclimate and get over the jet lag. It was perfect. Mahabalipuram was an excellent place to start - it has interesting sites and the hotel has all the amenities. We loved it.

I would'nt recommend it for a longer stay

Its a nice place with a bad front desk and irresponsible room service . My requests to room service fell on deaf ears and never got what i asked for until i checked out . The rooms are good and comfortable , the place is nice . If you are ok with crappy service and all u want is a good place to be on your own , here is where u might want to go .

I'd sum up and say its well not worth what you are being charged. Not worth the money.

Improving hotel in good location

Overall it was OK - a sort of 3.5 star. Let's start with the fact that there is a fantastic big pool with enough sunbeds. This is a typical Indian managed hotel in that it lacks the refinements of an international management team. Having said that I was expecting alot worse when I read other reviews. The hotel has clearly responded as generally service was quite good at times. But service must be conisistent and it was not. I have no real complaints though and I would stay there again. The condition of the pool toilets lets the whole site down. I get the feeling that if the hotel was full it might be alot worse so beware.
