We stayed here for our last 3 nights in Sardinia. Front desk agent, Marcello, was incredibly helpful and friendly and we enjoyed seeing him daily. The hotel was spotless and clean. The balcony was big and spacious and had a lovely view of the sea. We really enjoyed our time in the spa and saunas and felt the experience was worth the price to unwind and relax. The location was perfect and we walked into the historic town along the sea every night for dinner. We took advantage of the free parking lot which was a nice addition. We enjoyed a drink and lunch at the hotel bar patio which has a gorgeous view! The lunch was tasty, but a little pricey. Our only negative would be that the pool was too cold to dip into!

A perfect selection for foreign trackers to Alghero who enjoy high end hotels without being overly pretentious. The too
S are comfortable however the beds are terrible firm and should all be outfitted with memory foam covers. They also sit a bit low to the ground but people in Europe tend to be shorter in general. The breakfast buffet was great with many options.

I am typically not a complainer and I traveled all through Italy weeks prior to this stay. We picked this place hoping for a nice 5 star stay after all the crazy travels. I want to fist say how did this place get 5 stars?!? Was it earned or given?

It was a terrible property the customer service is absolute trash. We paid extra for two separate beds as I am traveling with my grandma and they practically refused to give us another room until we argued with them. Mind you we paid extra for this specific room. Later on at the dinner buffet staff made comments about our “problems” at check in we had multiple staff ask us what happened?! How un professional! When we simply paid for a room with 2 separate beds. We wanted what we paid for. $1,800 for 3 nights, what a WASTE!!!! We wanted a queen and a twin and we’re give a queen room and then told they would bring up a bed! What a joke! For $1,800 I would not sleep on a rollaway bed!!

The dinner buffet was 2 stars! Food was okay! Breakfast was great!! You would think after paying for dinner the least they could do is include water! I get that wine and cocktails aren’t included but water?!?

Overall would not recommend this property!! (The female bartender in the mornings by herself she was great!!!!! Makes a killer margarita!! Didn’t catch her name.)

Beautiful Location, but Overall an Average experience

We recently stayed at this property in Alghero and would describe our overall experience as okay, especially considering the expectations that come with a 5-star hotel.

The location is definitely a highlight — just a short 15-minute walk from Alghero’s charming old town and set right along the coastline, offering lovely sea views. The property itself is well-maintained.

The breakfast spread was good, with a decent variety to choose from, and the swimming pool area was nice for a relaxed afternoon.

That said, the experience felt more transactional than truly hospitable — something you wouldn’t typically expect at a 5-star level.

While everything functioned well, it lacked the warmth, attentiveness, and personalization that elevate a hotel stay from good to exceptional.

If you’re looking for a conveniently located property with a solid baseline of amenities, this hotel delivers. But if you’re expecting a truly luxurious, service-driven 5-star experience, you might find it a bit underwhelming

It was a delight staying here. I had a lovely, large room with a modern bathroom. Plus there was air conditioning which is rare in Europe. It was within easy walking distance of the old town. The staff were all friendly and helpful.

The Hotel is situated in a wonderful spot with a fantastic sea view. You can tell it was a top place when it was built but now it seems a little outdated. The rooms are comfortable with nice linens and a great shower. However, some details are inadequate for a presumed 5-star Hotel. Some examples: no face tissues in the bathroom, no extra pillows with different height (the 2 in the bed were too low to be used singles and too high to be used doubles). Another sub-par experience was breakfast: cold fried eggs (pre-cooked), cold cuts not fresh and not high quality, no sausages, no freshly squeezed orange juice, etc.

In summary a good stay, but it should have been better for the fame and the price.

We’ve just had 9 days at this beautiful hotel in a double superior room with balcony overlooking sea and pool. Room was large, modern and clean. Lovely large bathroom with complimentary products and hairdryer. Mini bar and safe also. Huge storage / hanging space in wardrobes. We asked for a rollaway bed for our daughter which was kindly provided.
All staff were lovely and very helpful. Pool is large with plenty of sun beds and never an issue finding one no matter what time we went to the pool (opens at 10). We hired a car and always able to park near hotel or in their small car park.
Walk to old town is a gentle 15 min stroll along the stunning seafront road with market sellers at night, bars and restaurants en-route too.
Overall a wonderful stay in beautiful Alghero and will surely return to this hotel.

Overpriced room with an amazing view but outdated furnishings and air conditioner that didn't work, even after being\"fixed\". Worst bed I've slept on since camping on a roll out mat 20 years ago. Restaurant and bar service were great when available. Disappointed we couldn't get a meal at the hotel at 9.25pm, informed that the restaurant closes at 9.30pm, which I'm sure most would agree is a little too early for a European summer, particularly when there is no room service available. Location made up for many of the hotel's shortcomings.

Gym leaves something to be desired and there is a lawn beyond the pool area that looks unfinished. Given how great this hotel is overall, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that the lawn is probably a project in progress and will look very different sometime soon.

The Carlos V Hotel is one of the most brilliantly located properties in Alghero, it's right on the sea front, with amazing Mediterranean views it's in a relatively quiet residential area so total silence (and amazing sleep) in the night time.

The facilities are wonderful: our room was huge, with nice added benefits like bathrobes, slippers, quality toiletries, bottled water (still & sparkling) provided daily. Cleanliness was incredible - the hotel obviously has high standards - this was one of the cleanest hotel rooms I ever stayed in.

The staff are wonderful, very friendly and accommodating - especially the reception staff .

Food - we didn't avail of breakfast or the half board evening meals... but we did have lunch in the poolside bar a few times, and it was excellent quality, and reasonably priced. They also have a fantastic wine list!

Experience Ruined by Financial Error

This is a very well kept hotel in a beautiful location, and I literally had no complaints while staying there. However, upon returning to my home country, it transpired that Smy Carlos V Alghero had charged my credit card (presented on check in) for the two night stay, despite me having prepaid using my debit card upon booking. Honest mistake, I assumed, and quickly made contact with the hotel's reception and accounts department. I received a couple of emails from reception to the effect of \"we're working on it\" and almost two weeks later, and without any correspondence, I noted that I had been refunded a sum of money similar to the amount charged to my card, but not the same. When I sought answers from the hotel, they did not reply to my email some six days ago. All I wanted was clarity and fairness, and they declined to provide it. Even when I made it clear that I would be forced to leave a negative review unless they at least had the decency to explain their mistake, they chose not to respond. In summary, this is a beautiful hotel with courteous staff, but I have been left extremely disappointed with the lack of transparency they have provided regarding a financial error on their part.

Not what I would call a five star hotel. Hotel bedrooms a bit dated and pool area needs refurb, garden very bare and wall needs painting. We found the staff on reception unhelpful, asked about car hire one day and the lady rang the car company asked if they had the car we want, they said no and she just hung up without asking us if we would like a different type of car. We also got a telling off/threatening letter in our room for using our own iron. We didn’t appreciate the tone of the letter. No tea/coffee facilities in room unless you pay per week. Best thing about this hotel were the friendly breakfast staff, thank you. Breakfast was just average however with not much choice. Being honest I have stayed in much better 4 star hotels and won’t be back to this one.

Ideal for business, less so for families.

This hotel is beautiful if you don’t look too deeply. The facilities were nice, especially the roof top lounge bar. And dinner at the restaurant had refreshing vegan/vegetarian options that were well-prepared after heavy meals outside. But, the room was not up to expectations. It was not dirty, but not fully clean either with a layer of dust on the kettle. And the “family room” is a regular room with rollaway bed. Finally breakfast was weird...on the first day they forgot to heat the coffee and another day they didn’t heat the hot plates under the scrambled eggs and forgot to put the bread out. I get the feeling the team was just tired and didn’t want to be there at that time. And finally, while the walk to the old town is gorgeous, it’s not something you want to do multiple times a day. But, there is nothing near by, so it’s walk or eat at the hotel. If we came back, we would consider other options. Yet, I can imagine that business travelers would like it.

Great 4 night stay

Just returned from a great 4 night stay at the Carlos V. We had an Executive Garden View Room - large room with balcony and ensuite with bath and shower, large sink area, robes, slippers and toiletries. Enough storage for two, minibar which included free soft drinks replenished daily plus kettle, broad tea and coffee selection. Bed was huge as was two singles connected together as is often standard - no an issue for us. Nice firm mattresses and extra pillows. Aircon controllable in the room and working perfectly.

Breakfast was a wide buffet selection of cooked and continental - fruit, meats and cheeses, pastries, bread, pancakes, omelette station - you name it they had it. Coffee's made to order (the espresso was nice and strong!) and efficient service.

The pool is a saltwater pool which was always a great temperature - cool enough for a refreshing dip but never cold. Manned all the time, pool towels provided on exchange of towel tokens. Loads of sunloungers and parasols and there were always beds available. Pool bar was great - drinks reasonable and wide selection. Nice lounge furniture and great views.

Didn't try any of the restaurants apart from breakfast.

Had a great stay and would definitely recommend and stay here again.

This is not a 5 star hotel. More like 3-4. After travelling all day and arriving at the hotel about 3:30pm, we were told no food was available until the restaurant opened at 7pm. No room service, nothing.
Rooms basic, beds are hard, toiletries are in dispensers on the walls. Great view from the terrace out to sea - just don't look right towards the run down flats/buildings that overlook the pool.
Reception staff did their best to help us when we wanted to check out early but there was no one with any authority to change our reservation and it took over 24 hours to check out. Crazy.

AC in rooms was barely adequate, particularly for sleep. Also rooms heated while you were out in a beach environment while AC could not run because you were only given 1 room card. Hence you returned to a heated room. On a more fussy note, breakfast, which was generous, would have benefited from an expresso machine so that you did not have to seek out the staff for it constantly for us coffee lovers. Overall, a very pleasant visit.

Beautiful luxurious hotel in a stunning location

Beautiful hotel on the outskirts of the old town, great salt water pool and lovely staff right on the sea front. The old town is a 15 min walk away but that’s perfect to work up an appetite for dinner at the many great restaurants in the old town and then walk it off on the way back to your room. The spa is €25 per person for 2 hours use and is top class and really relaxing. The only thing I would say is that if you are elderly or have a disability the pool isn’t ideal as you do have to enter it via ladders, this was no issue to us but I couldn’t recommend it to my parents for this issue alone. For everyone else the hotel it perfect though

Very nice hotel and in an ideal location. Walk into Alghero town was about 15/20 mins which was fine. Alghero was packed full of restaurants and the little lanes area was very quaint. Hotel room was very clean and we had an excellent see view as ordered. Breakfast was plentiful and the cooked to order omelettes were very tasty. The only downside of the hotel was lack of a lounge area to have a nice drink and perhaps a piano or music playing as when it was raining we had no central spot to go to. There is of course plenty of outside space to have a drink but in October we were limited!
All staff were very helpful and good at their job - no request was too much.

The Hotel is in a decent location. Great views from room with sea side view. Up the street there are some run down buildings. 15 min walk to Alghero old city which is beautiful at night.
The hotel should take care of the landscaping in front of the hotel and the parking lot. It’s very bad. The bar staff needs training-not friendly at all. Some of them are rude.

Very good hotel but maybe not 5 star

Stayed for 16 nights in an executive sea view room. Suited us as we were looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday and this hotel provided it. Not up to the 5 star hotels we've stayed at elsewhere, but not an issue for us. Suitable for couples and families with young children, but probably not those with teenagers.
The room was large with a balcony overlooking the pool with a sea view from the 4th floor. Maid service was generally good, aircon excellent and very quiet. Free soft drinks and water restocked every day. Wifi slow at times, particularly late afternoon and early evening. TV had limited English language programmes (mainly news).
Pool was very good with efficient attendants. Peak season, so difficult to find a spot with umbrella around the pool if you turned up after about 11am, but the staff were very good in helping.
Didn't try the restaurant in the evening, although others said it was very good. So many restaurants in the town to try and the 10 to 15 minute walk in the evening into town was a nice way to end the day. Breakfast was very good - we had plenty of choice, so didn't get bored with the same food over 16 nights - just make sure to ask the staff for coffee and avoid the coffee on display.
If we ever return to Sardinia, we would be very happy to stay at this hotel and revisit Alghero again.

Good hotel, with good facilities and lovely pool area. Pool staff could be a little friendlier. Sitting in the bar area for lunch you get given plastic cuterly and food isn’t great - not really the 5 star service you would expect. I can’t comment on the restaurant food as we went out for dinner every night. But breakfast isn’t great either. After 5 days of eating the same thing, I was read to leave. There’s zero variety, not even of fruit and cakes.
Location is fantastic and there’s free but limited parking.
Pillow are very thin and slightly uncomfortable, bed is a little bit on the harder side but I guess that’s personal preference.
This hotel would probably be a 4 stars anywhere else in Europe. But we had a good time.

Wonderful experience. Exceptional service, My husband celebrated his birthday whilst there and the hotel delivered a bottle of champagne to our room. Totally unexpected and a very nice touch. Would definitely recommend this hotel. Not one glum face among the staff. Also the restaurant had an amazing view .

Lovely position with beautiful views

Stayed for 5 nights , very comfortable bed.Room didn’t have iron or kettle with tea/coffee making facilities which would have been nice, however all soft drinks & bottled water were replenished daily free of charge.
Lovely for adults but not recommended for children as no facilities for them play area table tennis etc.Lovely peaceful pool area.
Best meal we ate was in the hotel restaurant !

A week in Alghero, Sardinia

Stayed for a week at the Carlos V Hotel in late June 2018. Reception upgraded us to an executive room with pool view which was a bonus that obviously helps paint a positive picture for this review.
Doesn't matter which room we stayed in, found the hotel really clean with friendly staff.
Location was fine - a short walk (15 minutes) along the promenade into the old town and restaurants.
We had a hire car and took a couple of drives up into the hills and along the coast to the Caves of Neptune. Without a car, there are boat tours along the coast and to the caves.

Fantastic hotel in a great location

The hotel is superb, the rooms are spacious, everything is spotless and the service is wonderful. The staff, without exception, were friendly and diligent. It’s a 20 minute walk into the old town where there is a great choice of restaurants but if you don’t want to walk there is an excellent taxi service and a bus.

Fantastic hotel staff food cleanliness first class . Restaurant overlooking the sea serving a varied menu both at lunchtime and evening five star. Thoroghly enjoyed our stay not ones for sunbathing but the pool area was vrry good.

Nice Hotel with Friendly and Helpful Staff

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Well appointed bedrooms which included free bottled water and soft drinks. The 10 euro weekly kettle and drinks service was also well appreciated. Restaurant was quite good.

We would have preferred a slightly softer mattress and it was a shame that the Astra-turf bordering our balcony was a little grubby and weedy !

Overall, I think we would use again if we visited Alghero again.

Perfect location

Decent hotel, but not worth its 5 star rating. It's more like a 3-star hotel with good amenities. We used the pool and gym, which were okay. We tried to eat in the restaurant one day, but left after 25 minutes as no one came to take our order. We even asked to order, but service was not very good.

The hotel is located about 15 min walk from the old town. It's a really nice walk with market stalls at the weekend. There is no beach nearby, but we walked about an hour each day to get to the Maria pia beach.

We will come back to Alghero, but will stay in a different hotel next time.

Our experience was excellent. We stayed in a sea view room and had bed and breakfast accommodation which was perfect for our one week trip. The staff were excellent professional and very friendly. The hotel is ten minutes walk to the town along the sea front and the restaurants in Alghero are top quality 'La Saletta' is worth a special mention it was outstanding.

Easter Week 2018

Stayed during the Easter week of 2018. The hotel had only been opened for about a week since their off-season shutdown. We were one of the first guests their and it got steadily busier during the week but still fairly quiet. The hotel is in the middle of a renovation and there is work going on the front of the hotel. Pritty impressive work inside and out. Please note the pool is only open from May to September.

We booked a executive pool view room but since the pool was closed and drained out it wasn’t much of a view. Fortunately just as we put our bags down in the room we got a call from reception saying did we want to change rooms to one slightly smaller but at the from of the hotel with a proper sea view. We did change and thank you to the gentlemen for that, it made our holiday, see the photos below.

The breakfast was great, we are vegitaians and it catered well for us, plenty of fresh fruit, juice, pasteries, bread, cereals..... you won’t leave breakfast hungry. Also the restaurant offers quit a few vegitarian/vegan options on the menu, quiet progressive I thought.

The hotel is a 20 min walk from the old town in Alghero. You can take the sea front walking path from the front of the hotel all the way there. You can get buses to Bosa (scenic fishing town) or Capo cassia (Neptune cave / cliff side stairway) from outside the ticket office by the park on Via Catalogna. Also you can catch the ALFA bus for the airport to/from here.

Lovely hotel with incredible views

When we were driving towards the hotel we were admiring this lovely building on the coast overlooking the cliff and soon realised it was actually our hotel and were so pleased!

We arrived at 10.30 and check in was very quick and easy. Our room was extremely spacious and clean with a beautiful bathroom. We were slightly disappointed that there were no options for late night food as we had been travelling but this wasn't an issue.

Breakfast was incredible and looked just like the pictures. Omelette bar, croissants, English breakfast, fresh pancakes and more!

We didn't spend much time at the pool but on the day we did we ordered drinks which were brought to us poolside with a selection of complimentary savoury pastries which were delicious. For my coeliac boyfriend he was disappointed as all the lunch time snacks were sandwiches etc and so there wasn't anything for him. Definitely something which can be improved. Slightly disappointing but again as we weren't often at the pool, it wasn't really a problem for us.

Our return flight wasn't until 10pm. We checked out early and the hotel allowed us to leave our bags in a storage room and they also allowed us to book a room for 6pm to shower and get ready after our day out free of charge. This was so helpful and allowed us to thoroughly enjoy our last day and get refreshed before our flight.

Amazing hotel with great staff!! Would definitely go back and recommend to friends.

Had a great week at Carlos V. Superb Location for the Old Town which was a 10ish minute stroll away. Nearest sandy breach approx 40 mins stroll but walking past the harbour is a good distraction and the 40 mins feels like 20.
There is a large pool with a great terrace and bar next to it. Ideally a greater choice for lunch/snacks would have been on offer other than some very bland looking ham sandwich and paninis that could have been made days ago! The only real iron for lunch is in the formal dining room, tho was very good and not too expensive - if you chose carefuly. Breakfasts were excellent. We are out every night so can't comment on the evening meals. 5* may be stretching it a bit but def a good 4. Gym was well eqiipped. Spa still under construction.
Would definitely recommend spending the extra if possible on tbe executive room with sea view. Spectacular sunsets to be seen and amazing views to wake up to!

great hotel ,nice pool,gym,great breakfast .staff were very nice and accommodating,our rooms were maintained by Angela and Maria loved them.antonio at the front desk was amazing went out of his way to help us if it weren't for him all my electronics would not have made it to the airport love him.dave at the pool bar was wonderful.my one recommendation to the hotel supervisors would be ease up on your staff and they will work happy.definetly will come back

Beautiful Hotel with a View! *****

Loved loved loved this hotel, great all around service and what I learnt is how they take their roles professional and serious. The waiter and waitress were always spot on and efficient. Sorry if I got the name wrong but Massimilano at the front was so friendly and his advice was class. A local Sardinian recommend great foodie places to visit and what transport to go on to get to beautiful beaches on the coast of Sardinia. The air con room was well needed and worked well especially the high temp from just visiting Alghero. Down side is that you have to go to the ironing room but breakfast was fresh and superb. Beautiful hotel, glad I paid the money for this wonderful experience. Grazie and ciao.

good views overlooking the sea and edge of town.

I had a room at the side of the hotel overlooking the garden and the sea . The room was very spacious with a very large , comfortable bed. The bathroom was surprisingly small but it did had a nice , powerful shower area. There was , however , no bath. Clean , large white towels were changed daily . Free soft drinks were also provided. The breakfast was excellent in both quality and choices provided- fresh fruit , great variety of cooked choices , cereals , cakes etc !!
The staff in the restaurant were professional and polite . The reception staff were friendly and willing to answer questions and help .
Buses to/ from the town run from outside the hotel but frequency of buses was not brilliant - ( in June ) more buses run from July 1st . .

Great Hotel with helpful staff.

The hotel was wonderful and you could never get tired of the beautiful views across the bay. It's an easy walk to the old town which has many great restaurants. The local wines are great and I am sure you can find a wine to suit your palate. The beaches were fantastic with clear blue waters, perfect for diving or snorkelling.

Thoroughly enjoyable stay.

From the moment we checked in, to checking out, all the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Good location, in a quiet residential area, on the outskirts of Alghero. 10/15 minute walk into the old town where there are plenty of shops, restaurants and bars. We went on a B&B basis and ate out every night - there was so much choice.
We had a sea view room, which was lovely. The room and bathroom were spacious. The rooms were very well sound proofed and the bed was superb! We reckon it was the best week's sleep we have had, away from home!
I wouldn't recommend the hotel to anyone who wanted to be entertained, as there was no entertainment in the day or at night, but this suited us down to the ground and would definitely be a reason for us returning.

Beautiful Hotel in a Great Location

The hotel is located 10 or 15 minutes from the old town, so it's easy to walk there for dinner or sightseeing. It's in a good location if you have a car because it's easily accessible and you aren't caught in downtown traffic.
