The quality of rooms is varied to say the least. On some occassions, excellent, but this time, whilst the room had character, it was in quite a sad (and potentially dangerous) state. I think the hotel was overbooked, as breakfast was very chaotic too.

The reception staff was very very helpful. The room was well insulated, spacious and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was delicious. The hotel was well placed.
On the negative side, the room was too hot and we did not manage to regulate the heating.

The hotel does not have good access for disabled people.
There are steps into the reception area. And there is a further set of stairs to the elevator.
Going into the building there are 2/3 steps. But no handrail.
I also had to miss breakfast as the dinning room is also down a flight of stairs.

For this reason, i would not recommend it to people with difficulties walking.

Also the room was very dated and definitely needs a re-fit.

One of the best Kaunas has to offer

Everything okay with the minor inconvenience of a ridiculously small toilet room (separate from the bathroom). Room spacious, bed comfortable, breakfast very good, staff service minded, on-site parking tight, but safe and free. We usually stay here when visiting Kaunas and never disappointed.

Yes, it was Easter weekend, but what 4 star (fully booked) hotel closes the bar at 2200hrs on a Saturday evening. Also our room lost electricity in the (enclosed no windows) toilet and the bathroom at 0600hrs and no one working over the weekend to fix it. Thus we had to use the communal toilets near reception, whilst other toilets had no locks on the doors. All we got was a shrug and a sorry for the inconvenience. And.. for the past 8 years still the swimming pool is being \"renovated\".

4 night stay in February 2025. Room was clean and spacious. No bottom in the wardrobe but plenty of hanging space.
Breakfast was plentiful but items such as meat, cheese, yoghurt were not kept cooled so the cheese and meat were sweaty and the yoghurt was warm.
Not an easy hotel to navigate to due to in a car, a one way system and permanent road blocks in place.
Well situated for both old and new town.

Reception staff excellent and assigned a very spacious room (105 and will ask for this again) with a big bath and sep. toilet. Great breakfast with variety and seemingly an unlimited quantity of food and good service. Parking on site is limited, but secure and free. Central location near the pedestrian area with shops to the right and plenty of bars and restaurants to the left.

Acceptable; except the wifi is an issue ... 2nd floor appears to be in a dead zone ( and this is not the first stay this year with same problem). Beds and pillows \"hard\", coffee making facilities advertised, but 1 sugar, 2 sachets of instant and no milk are not \"facilities\". On-site parking uncontrolled and chaotic with guests parking however they want... site needs managing, or at least parking bays clearly marked.

Mostly good, not perfect.

Overall this was a very good stay. The positives: friendly staff, a very spacious room, a very good breakfast and very easy free parking. Good location to the center of the pedestrian city. The not-so-good issues: 1. No room air conditioning. During my June stay the night temperatures fell low enough to allow for good sleep with the windows open. But I can anticipate that during one of the increasingly frequent and severe European heat waves, this could be intolerable. 2. While breakfast was excellent, there was one small element that was not: as often in European hotels, breakfast included nice loaves of bread from which one could cut one's own portion. But in this case, the ability to hold onto the bread while cutting was just a tiny, paper napkin...which meant that every other guest had planted their finger prints on the bread....YUCK! There should have been a more substantial linen napkin to hold the loaf. No human finger prints on the loaf. 3. The street is a side-street but nevertheless there is substantial noise until midnight or so. While this did not particularly bother me as I am accustomed to urban noise, should this bother you, ask for a room away from the street.

The hotel is very old and badly news a reconstruction. Room was large, with three beds and bathroom was also huge but...
Non functional wc, old beds, carpet in the room was dirty. Breakfast was not the best quality . I reported the situation about toilet at reception and nothing has happened. Next morning the receptionist was sleeping at 7:00 am and wasn't reachable.

Room with a good size but the toilet was impossible to use as it was very, very small and bad organized.
The room seemed clean at first look but there were a lot of faults - dust and spiders and very dusty windows.
The towels were teared up and worn. The sheets had a black stain on them.
All in all, comfort and experience does not come even close to a 4 stars hotel.

Positives: Nice clean hotel. We had a Suite room and the seating area with the floor-to-ceiling glass overlooking the street below was just lovely to sit in. Good Air con. Friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Nice towels. Free parking. Nice location on edge of old town. Walking distance to lots of shops cafes restaurants.
Negatives: breakfast was a disappointment. Like it’s good to have it available and it’s enough to keep you full when you have a little bit of everything but overall poor quality. The “hot” food was never hot enough. Bread and pastry’s were sometimes a little bit stale. Reasonable selection of foods though from cereals to yoghurts to fruit to bread. Only 1 coffee machine so there was often a queue.
Parking was limited but really good that it was free considering it’s a built up area.

Loved the location near Kaunas Old Town and enjoyed walking around everywhere. Even Laisves al. though being renovated is still walkable to the Devil's museum and the Ciurlionis gallery. Enjoyed the restaurants in Old town and had some great meals.

Very poor for a 4 star

We stayed in a twin room for 9 nights, the room was cream, brown and wood, very dark and as my friend was recovering from an operation we spent more time in the room which was modest and quite depressing.
The worst part was the noise at night, reading other reviews it seems like it was the air conditioning main pump, it made sleeping,; especially for my friend after surgery; very difficult but that wasn’t all.
We had to ask for toilet rolls as we ran out after the room had been serviced, a few times the room wasn't serviced and others when it was the bins were emptied and a quick wipe around the sink. Teas and coffee were in the room but very few and not topped up; we bought our own to keep us going. We left towels on the bathroom floor; not very day; and they weren’t changed.
Opening the windows revealed huge cobwebs and the room didn't seem to vacuum at all during our stay.
It’s not a hotel I would stay at again, maybe if you are there one night and very tired its manageable but that would be all for me

Stayed here for three nights in august 2018. A truly mixed and unforgettable experience.

Good experiences:
- Friendly and accommodating, English-speaking staff, who tried to do their best mend our bad experiences
- Sauna and pool that can be booked for closed parties, and without rigid hours
- Nice room layout (our room had three balconies)
- Fair location

Some of the other experiences:
- Got all night wedding party below our room the first night, which meant no sleep until 7 am. No previous heads-up, and apparently no other rooms available. Got refund from hotels.com, though
- The hotel suffers from lack of care and maintenance. Doors to balconies and bathrooms broken/hard to close. Hall light goes out at night (flashlight required)
- Spotlight arrangements on the facade attracts myriads of bugs at night, which again feeds rather large spiders
- Combination of broken/unlockable balcony doors with spider infestation outside means that you share room with the critters. We captured (and released on the other side of the street) seven of them with more than 5 cm leg span. They hid in the daytime, came out at night, and occasionally one of them would fall from the ceiling into the bed
- Found our room door unlocked one day (nothing missing from the room, though)

Staff is nice, and the place could be nice, but management/owners need to take the hotel and its guests more seriously and get this place up to acceptable standards!

The Best Western Santakos was an excellent choice for us. Located where the Old Town and the New Town meet, it was perfectly located and both sections of town were easily walkable from the hotel. The rooms were not your typical boxes but interestingly and individually shaped and decorated. All the regular amenities were there. When we pointed out some small problems (lights with missing bulbs etc), but they were quickly fixed. Overall, very good indeed. The Best Western is not the cheapest, but it's also far from expensive.

Great hotel, great location

Lovely hotel, very quirky style. I had a small issue with the room safe which wouldn't lock but someone came to my room to sort it out within 5 mins of calling through to reception. Only negative about the room safe is that it isn't big enough to fit a laptop in - as we were travelling through work, we had our laptops on us.
The hotel was conveniently situated in the centre of Kaunas and was literally just a 2 minute walk to the main central road which had shops, bars, cafes and restaurants galore. Great café culture which made you feel really chilled. Everyone was very helpful and friendly - apart from a couple of taxi drivers! The taxi driver who brought us from the airport to the hotel was super quick and super helpful, even giving us a map of Kaunas town centre and a book on the culture history of Kaunas!
Breakfast was included but to be honest, unless you were German or Central European, there wasn't really that much of a choice. One thing I was happy about was that there was black tea, cold milk and still water!
Overall a lovely hotel with lovely staff, very quirky in style but superbly located. Would come again if ever back in Kaunas!

Had to fly in to Kaunas because the airport in Vilnius was closed. Kaunas is worth the visit! 👍😎

Watch out for dishonest taxi drivers, and insist they turn the meter on (the only negative on our brief trip to Kaunas).

Santakos Best Western Kaunas is a centrally located hotel with a very modern interior.

The reception staff was very helpful and pleasant during our stay, the four rooms we booked were generously sized and very clean and the breakfast was quite nice.

The location right in the old town was convenient and the free on site parking was a plus. Overall the value for money was outstanding.

One night in Kaunas

Stayed in Kaunas for one night at the end of our trip. The best Western is looked at as one of the better hotels and judging by our stay that is correct. It is in a good enough location

However there were some issues.

The room was a good size, clean and well presented.
It was advertised as a King bed room, but there were only 2 twins. It seems it is the same in every King room.
There wasn't a good supply of coffee in the room but this was sorted with a quick phone call.

Next the breakfast wasn't up to standards. We had stayed in the 3 star Ibis five days previous and the breakfast there was better with more choice.

Finally the biggest issue for us.
The staff were not very good. They weren't friendly, weren't very helpful, looked at us like we were an annoyance and generally didn't act how you would expect.

In contrast the Ibis staff were very helpful, friendly and went out of their way for us.

I would still recommend this hotel as it has a lot going for it but just be warned of the above issues.

Pleasantly surprised by this hotel even though it had several good reviews to recommend it. VERY spacious room that felt cosy. Unfortunately the shower lets it down as it is old fashioned (runs off the tap) and not for someone who is tall,large or claustrophobic. Good enough for a couple of days though. Staff are very helpful and speak good English. Swimming pool is disappointingly small so we never used it. The location is ideal for exploring Kaunus. After a bus ride (No 29) from the airport (around 30mins and about 50p!) go straight across the road in the opposite direction to the bus. There is a hotel sign up on the wall. You go through an archway,past a church and the hotel is on your right. Stops are shown clearly on a display in the bus as you approach them. One of the best hotels I've stayed in.

Nice big room, not far from old town but that's the only positive. Breakfast was very poor and we had no lights in the bathroom in the morning. Confusion over payment which despite having proof they took again and said if taken twice don't worry they would refund

Cosy hotel in a great location

I was on a trip with my 6 year old daughter. We have been to Kaunas many times and stayed in different places. The hotel was great - good location, free parking, good breakfast. We didnt't have time to use the sauna and the (tiny) pool, but it was there.
The value for money is good. I would recommend staying there, especially if you want something right in the centre.

Best in Kaunas.

The hotel is on the edge of \"Old Town\" to one side and on the end of \"Laisves\" Street, one of the longest pedestrian boulevards in Europe, on the other. Hard to imagine a better location for a tourist. The hotel staff was extremely helpful with travel arrangements. Our room was large and clean. The breakfast was one of the better ones we had on our three-week trip through Europe. Would definitely stay there again.

Tucked-away Baltic gem

Delighted to find this gem of a hotel at such a reasonable price. Am no expert on Baltic States hotels but reckon this establishment must rank as the best value for money one can find. Sited unobtrusively in a quiet side street, but minutes only from the Old Town, everything about Best Western Santakos hotel surpassed expectations for a mid-range hotel. An apparent conversion from a previous life as a warehouse, refurbishment has been carried out perfectly in the style of an earlier period, in both the bedrooms and public spaces. Our bedroom was comfortable and charming with all the facilities that one might hope for in this range of hotel. The room and linens were spotless and the air conditioning worked perfectly during a period of unseasonally hot weather. There was a complete absence of traffic noise or indeed any other disturances, and due to the location would imagine that this would be the norm. Free car-parking on site was an added bonus as was a good quality buffet breakfast.
