Okay, this hotel was one step above a hostel with a private bathroom. It was TINY by modern standards, not much bigger than the bed (we stored our suitcases on the balcony, which wrapped around our corner room).

It was old and quirky BUT it was very clean, the bed was comfortable and everything worked. Staff was helpful and all the guests kind of pulled together to make things work. It was facing a busy street but once the balcony door was closed it was actually quite quiet... even the cathedral bells across the street which chimed the hour were tolerable. Optional breakfast on the rooftop was cheap and had a great view. It was a budget-friendly find, walkable to the main sights and the Plaka.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay!

Amazing view of Acropolis. Very good location in the center. Room has a balcony with a table and chairs. It’s small but that’s the usual in Europe. AC was good. Hot water w good pressure. Hotel has a lift. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We were able to checkin around 1230. They arranged transportation to the airport for us at 3am. Overall very recommended.

A wonderful position in Athens, and a good price, but that’s about it. Next to a church with very loud bells all night. Average breakfast but it’s true you have a nice view of the Parthenon. Nicer breakfast in local cafes. The position is wonderful though, worth 3 disturbed nights.

This hotel offers air conditioning and shelter. If you need anything else, it's not for you. I actually can't believe we paid money to stay here, it's kind of comical actually. There was wifi. It didn't work, but it existed. Luckily the kid at the front desk corrected me and told me it DOES work. It works at his desk, but not in the rooms. Very helpful for people traveling from out of country. The bathroom shower head thing is so dirty, water only comes out of maybe half the little nozzles. It was incredibly loud, and I'm not sure what was above us, but they scraped a chair against their floor for hours. The older man who checked us out was great and helpful. So again, if you need a place with air conditioning and shelter from outside, this is the place for you. Anything else, there is an absolutely beautiful hotel about 30 steps down the street for roughly the same price

Couldn’t access the safe as it was locked when we got there and they didn’t know how to open it,
As for amenities… didn’t know they had any, but the view from the top patio is truly wonderful.

They were very accommodating to let us check in early after our cruise. They also held our luggage for us while we waited to check in. This is very close to a ton of restaurants and walking distance to the Acropolis. The room was good with two beds roomy enough for four with a balcony. The downside is Athens is busy like NYC and the room faced the street with lots of cars, people, and a church with the clock bells going off every half hour. If you prefer quiet this might be a challenge. We used ear plugs and had the AC running (which worked great). The front desk helped us order a taxi which is critical for planning in Athens. All of the food nearby was excellent. Lots of upscale shopping as well. Overall the hotel was a good choice. It is about 45 minutes to the airport and could take longer with all of the traffic.

The front desk staff was very helpful and accommodating. The hotel is located in a convenient part of the city for tourists. One thing to bear in mind is the noise level. There’s noise from business activity and the large church across the street will sound its bells hourly and half hourly.

The cook who makes the eggs to order for 8 euro breakfast was very good. Note for those who may have mobility issues, there are a half dozen stairs to get to the elevator.

The staff was helpful. Took our luggage up the steps to the elevator. The hotel is located between Syntagma and Monastiraki metro stations so very convenient to get to the airport and the port.

Also right in the middle of town so easy to get back with you need a break while sightseeing. However being on the main road, it is very noisy late into the night. Also it is a small hotel so noisy if people are checking in late at night.

Breakfast was decent for the price. There are a few narrow steps to the rooftop and to the elevator so keep that in mind if this is a problem for you.

It is a good budget hotel for the price and location.

Hotel is very central, VERY NOISY AT NITE. Central enough you could walk to most major attractions. The room was tiny but it is standard in Europe. There is an elevator which was a plus but you still have to take a few steps to use it to bring your luggage up. The one thing I did not like is the room we were assigned was very noisy, sound proofing very poor. The bar right next to it is open till 2 am, so I hardly had any sleep for the few nites we were there. The bathroom was very tiny, you can not even enjoy the rainfall shower because it will flood up the bathroom. Most of the staff were very helpful, except for the owner. I ask if he could recommend any restaurant nearby, and he said they are all the same, just walk this way, he was not very accommodating. There was a young kid, which I believe could be the owners son and he said to try” Meat the Greek” food was great and portions were a good , tried both the red and white wine and were both good and the price was decent for both the drink and the food. If you are looking for somewhere to have quick bite, meat the Greek is few steps away from the hotel. Yota and George were both very helpful. If you are looking for a place to rest, this hotel is not for you. Breakfast was basic but good enough, they run out of coffee early and will not brew more even if we requested, the cook just said they’re done and it was not even 9 am, € 8 per person. There was a tip jar that had€10 in it, would have tip more but the service was poor

Showers are small and towel hangers were falling off. Front entrance is hard to see as it is just a door with barely visible signage. Overall it was clean.

Best part is location. Very central & close to everything; restaurants, museums, sites, bars, shopping, etc.

OMG I can’t thank the staff enough, when a local tour company did not come on time and messed up our booking, a very nice lady who worked night shift made numerous phone calls and did not stop until our taxi came to take us to the port (we were going to Santorini). We found our room to be dusty, as if it hadn’t been checked in months. There was no extra toilet paper in the room, the tv was very small. Our balcony was dirty from lack of use. Since we had a reservation for weeks I would expect to stay in a room that had been tidied even if it was cleaned weeks or months ago. Breakfast was a complete disappointment, Luke warm coffee and stale bread, I had expressed mobility issue, but still needed to climb a flight of stairs to use the elevator and a flight of stairs for the rooftop breakfast.mattress was very comfortable, excellent location, but i wouldn’t stay again.

I booked this hotel because of its location and the poster picture of the Acropolis view from the roof top. Mistake! The room is small and crammed. There’s no accommodation such as water or coffee maker. There’s not even enough toilet paper. Honestly, I don’t recommend this hotel if you want a pleasant experience. The owner could easily provide some shampoo or hair conditioner. Too minimal.

Very good location. This is a small, 84 years old building, family-run hotel and the staff are amazing. We arrived very early in the morning and asked of they could store our luggage. Not only did they help with that, but they also allowed us to check in early since our room hadn't been occupied the night before-without extra charge.

When we checked out the next morning, the owner asked if we had visited the rooftop, which we hadn't. He encouraged us to go up and see it, and the view was breathtaking.

I would love to come back if I have the chance.

We recently stayed at the Hotel Metropolis prior to taking a cruise and are very happy with this property. From its location in Plaka near the Acropolis and other points of interest including a multitude of shopping and dining choices as well as proximity to public transportation, this hotel delivers.

Having arrived at night, the next morning greeted us with a stunning view of the Acropolis from our room. As well, this hotel has an amazing rooftop terrace with still even better views of the Acropolis. For these reasons alone the Hotel Metropolis is a top choice for your next stay in Athens.

However, it is the staff and management that sealed it for us. We encountered unexpected difficulties when our cruise was cancelled. An early return home was not feasible as it was prohibitively expensive to rebook our flight. Instead, we decided to make the best of it and see even more of Athens. Hotel Metropolis staff and management were very accommodating by allowing us to extend our stay.

As the date of our return flight was approaching, we were advised by our airline that it too was cancelled. Not only did Hotel Metropolis again accommodate us for a couple extra days, but they provided us with a room with a large wrap-around balcony. The compassion and kindness shown to us by the staff and management were truly appreciated. And this is the most important reason our next stay in Athens will be with Hotel Metropolis.

We stayed for 2 nights and it was a great place to stay. The staff were really nice and the room was very clean and had what we needed. We chose a room with a view and loved it! We could sit in the balcony and watch the city moment with a beautiful view of the Partenon. We loved the location, as we could visit the main attractions by foot, besides being near to restaurants, souvenir stores and even a supermarket. There was no breakfast though during winter, but there are plenty of coffee shops around. We totally recommend it.

The staff was friendly and very helpful. The beds were not new but comfortable. The 5th floor family room view and balcony was absolutely incredible. The location was amazing, walking distance to all the sites. The cleanliness and upkeep of the room could be better. It felt like a lot of \"do if yourself\" work was done by someone that wasn't entirely qualified. For example, the shower head was installed a bit wonky and the toilet seat moved around. But like I said before, I was willing to deal with a few hiccups for the view, the location, and the price point.

The staff was am courteous and helpful. The hotel is in a great location and a reasonable price. The room was clean and had a long balcony although it was not wide. Breakfast is available on the rooftop terrace for an additional fee and it was plenty to eat including eggs made to order. The only downside to this hotel is that you need to carry your luggage up about 8 steps before you can get to the elevator. But otherwise, it was great and we would definitely stay there again!!

The Hotel Metropolis is affordable, friendly and family run with an ideal location for those who like to explore on foot. It is located an easy walk half way between the Syntagma and Monastiraki Metro stations. The view of the acropolis from the rooftop breakfast terrace is excellent.
One warning for those who are overweight, unfit or travelling with a lot of luggage; some rooms are small, the elevator is extremely small and the winding staircase is narrow and steep.

The location was great and the rooftop terrace was incredible. My room was run down and not like the pictures, the hooks in the bathroom repeatedly fell when a towel was hung up, and I could hear every time someone let the elevator door slam no matter the floor they were on. Also I was asked my room number out loud and in front of people every morning when I left (I assume for housekeeping purposes) but as a single woman traveling alone that is very unsafe.

Overall I'd say this is an OK place to stay for one person or possibly a couple. I got a standard room with a double bed so it was a bit small, and the bathroom was small as well. Some of the furniture looked a bit worn and daamged (mainly the desk) but the bed was comfortable and the rooftop area was a plus (with view of the Acropolis). I would probably stay here again if I'm in the area again, and I guess the price reflected what I got, which is pretty good considering this hotel is within walking distance of most key areas of Athens (Acropolis, Monistraki, Plaka, Syntagma Square, etc). It's just the condition and size of the room are the only \"issues\" for me (there was stuff left under the bed so it doesn't look like it was swept very well for example, and the desk was damaged a bit but other than that, the room was fine. Elevator is very small so if you have a lot of bags or large bags, this can be a challenge as it's kind of like an industrial elevator than a regular elevator you might find elsewhere (it's narrow and small). The stairs are also narrow and small compared to other place I've stayed in Europe. But the breakfast and the Acropolis views did make it more worth it (plus it's location within Athens).

Rooms are small but clean, we were staying only for one night, we had only one issue, safe was not working. Nice area around, super easy to walk around, and close to everything.

The budget room is small but , clean and comfortable. The Acropolis view from the room deck was unreal! The breakfast on the deck was great with a fresh omelet and toast.
You are in the middle of Monistriaki with restaurants everywhere.
The metro to the Airport is a 5 minute walk away.
Great staff and very quiet considering where you are. Highly recommend.

I have never been led astray when relying on Trip Advisor and Expedia reviews until now. I know the cheap rate is tempting, but don’t do it. The pictures are not even remotely close to what the room looked like. The room was absurdly small, but that’s not the worst part. It was so incredibly loud all night, it sounded like our window was open (it wasn’t, it was just poor sound proofing or bad window/door seals). There’s absolutely no sound proofing or insulation between rooms, you can hear it all! There were no advertised pictures of the bathroom for the double room and for good reason. The shower was so small that you could not turn the water on all the way or the floor would get wet. The bathroom smelled like sewage constantly, not sure if it was the dirty shower curtain or a sewage pipe issue. We hated going back to the hotel room. That’s one of the only times I’ve felt that way and I’ve travelled on a budget many times. It was a good location, but there are other options in that location, check those out, I wish I had.

The location was good. Room was very small as well as the tiny tiny elevator. Breakfast wasn’t very good, and the lady who was preparing it was rude. Only had breakfast one morning but was charged for all 3 days. Very disappointed.

Great and safe location !!!! Staff was friendly and willing to help for any requirement. 24/7 Front desk. Quiet and basic rooms. Busy area full of businesses nearby including one of the most important Churches within the city. Hotel was surrounded by restaurants , ice cream shops, stores , and less than 10 min walk to the acropolis area.

Property is located very close to all attractions, terrace on rooftop has an amazing view of the Acropolis.
Room was exactly as in photos, however blankets in closet were dirty and not useable. The shower is amazingly small and has a very awkward entry.
