It is front of the moon lake and close to the piers. The hotel offers cheap transportation tickets. Next to the markets, if you like fish, recommend you buy the ZHONG TONG ( president fish) and LONG XUN fish, and fried shrimp of the lake.
Enjoy the hike and bike ride, very relaxing and nice view.

This hotel is just on the harbour and very close to the Sun Moon lake. Staff are very helpful to park my car and even drove me to my car to pick the stuff I left there and drove me back.

Stayed 1 night. Room has heater, however, the room wasn’t very clean. The table and mirror wasn’t cleaned properly. You can only get 4 towels per room. Breakfast variety is limited. Only good thing is the location is right next to the 老街。

Upon checkin, the staff was very helpful in giving tips about destinations and dining options in the area. Awesome views from the balcony for lake-facing suite. Nearby stalls and restaurants tend to close early. Would stay again.
湖景套房空間寬敞乾淨，設備都算新、且該有的都有。兩面採光，大窗戶及陽台看出去景色驚艷，每早看著湖光山色起床。廁所另有淋浴間，也有拉門可以在泡澡時關上。服務人員友善服務周到，完全沒有其他評論提及的問題。早餐不是最豐盛，但以一間20幾個房間的旅館來說很OK了，吃了三天也不會膩。有機會再來日月潭的話會願意再入住。

The room and public area smells so bad. Floor carpets dirty with lots of stains....no proper tea served at breakfast ( was given lukewarm diluted tea and its a shame). Breakfast was supposed to end at 10am but we were told to come by 9am as there wont be much food left. True to their promise, we came down at 9 and they won't even replenish the bread. Overall lousy F & B. Unprofessional staff - no greetings, no smiles...talking loudly on facetime with family member (in the reception area ) on top of her voice as if it was her home. For the price we paid A$600+ for 2 nights, I would expect at least a decent clean hotel. Photos on the website was deceiving.

The location is excellent, close to a lot of food stalls and stores. It is also right next to the lake, which yields a great view. The staff is nice and polite. The facilities however, is in need of major maintenance. The shower door in our room leaked badly, so every time someone uses the shower one third of the bathroom floor is flooded with water. When I informed the front desk, they just told me it was a design flaw, which I know it is not. The weatherstripping is old and mildewy which is probably why the water can pass through it. Also, the dinner package that we got was terrible. Half of the sirloin steak that we got was not edible as it was full of tough sinews of tendon and cannot be cut by my steak knife much less eaten. When I informed them of this, they just apologized and said they will reflect to their suppliers. My guess is, not many people get this package as there were no other people in the dining hall with us, and that’s why the quality of the food is poor. The breakfast the next morning was not bad though. If the management improves these things, the place will be a great place to stay.

Fabulous place with great attention to detail.

I booked lake view room with balcony and got one on the 7th floor. It was fabulous (and I rarely use that word). Great attention to detail in every part of the room. Mugler toiletries, Toto toilet with sensor, home cinema system, jacuzzi bath in the middle of the room. I would certainly stay there again if I ever visit area again. Views from the room were great. I spent half a day sitting on the balcony and watching world go by. On the next night I stayed in Ritz Hong Kong and room was missing some of the amenities from The Crystal Resort Sun Moon Lake.

Receptionist were very nice and helpful, almost too nice. There was no black tea available at breakfast and I was disappointed. I was leaving early on second day and didn't bother with breakfast.

Parking is off-site, but very close and free.

Very nice suite with a wonderful jetted tub. Pleasant downstairs seating area and quiet location. Hotel did not reply to my request about how to get to them from the bus station though. We bought a lake pass and used the ferry.

Very nice hotel on the Sun Moon Lake near the Ita Thao Ferry Pier. Room is spacious and the bathroom is amazingly large and modern. Near the Sun Moon Lake cable car station that takes one up to the Formosan Aborigine Cultural Village. The Xuanguang Temple, Xuanchuang Temple and Ci-en Pagoda are not far away. Great free breakfast and good wifi. Free parking 2 blocks away. The staff was amazingly helpful. When we checked out, they took us to our car by a golf cart so we didn't have to walk there with our luggage. Great place to stay at the Sun Moon Lake.

Nice location by the lake - shame the rooftop

Stayed here for a night with my family, one of the three rooms was given an upgrade which was a great surprise.

The rooms were spacious and clean however the rooftop was not well kept - it was dated and dirty which was a real shame as it offered a great view of the lake being right in front of it.

Breakfast was just acceptable also.

Overall the stay was pleasant and if they could improve the rooftop and breakfast it’d be even better!

Next to pier. Best of the 3 pier locations. Quiet and calm. Room is comfortable although the bathtub in the middle of the bath area not really needed or desirable. Takes up space. Don’t like the curtain design.

Rather inflexible. Most hotels will upgrade if rooms available. We requested upgrade to lake view. Hotel refused even though it was midweek, low season and available. Requested a slightly later checkout. 12:00 instead of 11:00. Again refused even though midweek and clearly not busy at all, would only extend to 11:30.

Customers want to feel like you value them as special people. They don’t want to feel like you’re stingy towards them.

Other than this, a good stay overall.

We went for a quick private getaway from a family visit in Tainan. So glad we stayed on the farther side of the lake. It was wonderful! The hotel was clean, our room was lovely, our tub with jets was much needed to relax! They cleaned the room each day with complimentary waters, soda, bath salts, etc. The room was CLEAN and very comfortable with free international calls for the larger room with the balcony. It met our expectations and the staff were polite and professional. I think we picked the best option for a hotel by far regardless of room rate. We will be sending friends this way!

P.s. The breakfast buffet is a smart thing - they were consistent and good and honestly some nearby places were expensive also not consistent. Go with the hotel included breakfast. It was definitely the right choice...

Extremely polite and friendly staff. We checked in quiet early and allocate a room on 11th floor but the room was not ready yet. We were offered to a upgrade room with discount offer but we decided not to.

Left luggages at the hotel then we went out to wonder around Taipei. When we came back to the hotel early evening. Our room was changed to 8th floor without any explanations. Room was small but relatively small and worn.

We didn't really mind as long as the bed and pillow were comfortable. Anyway, it's an ok hotel, nice and clean. Would we go back? Probably not.

Room overlooked part of the lake and mountains. Room was very large with a sitting area; bathroom was huge with a big soaker tub. Hotel is starting to show age but still very nice. Staff very helpful- streets are narrow and congested so an employee parked our car for us and brought it back at the end of our stay. We had chosen to include dinner for our room and it was delicious and very generous-7 or 8 courses.

Stayed for one night. No proper parking facility. Hotel staff total ignore us after point out where to park, no one help with luggage whatsoever. Check in service is cold and indifferent, feel like talking to machine. We were told the check in is 3pm therefore we need to leave luggage with hotel, but all the luggage were stacked in the corner of the hotel without any supervision. I raise the issue with one of staff, I was told this is secure area with security camera, no need to worry. When we finally checked in and after 6level of hot elevator ride only to find out they are still fixing the room and cleaning crew were sitting on sofa chatting away. We went downstairs to complain and we were told supervisor is away, when they finally get on phone with them, for 5mins he refuse to talk to customer directly. We were eventually upgrade to better room but we were exhausted and tired after all this. I noticed some hotel staff are really trying however the management seriously need to be replace there is no proper training and some of the staff are just aweful and rude

A little overpriced...but still good overall

Check-in was fast and quick. Moon room had a good view but The windows were a kind of mirror type that made it hard to look out and enjoy the view at night unless the room was in total darkness. Location was great...dinner included in the stay was higher category type but unfortunately the main course of duck has a strong pheasant smell and the sauce used for the steak turned out gooey...staffs at restaurant were polite but w/o much smiles.

The hotel was not cheap and did not look great in the lobby but our room was lovely with a separate sitting room and a terrace with a nice view of the lake. The prix fixe dinner was excellent - local fish grilled to perfection. Breakfast was not up to the same standard but adequate. The staff were very friendly and helpful although English was limited.

Nice boutique hotel on the lake front.

I was surprised about the small size of the hotel. But the staff was extremely nice. The service was great. The room was surprisingly contemporary and clean. The bed was very comfortable. The bathtub is small for a 6 feet person but otherwise great with lots of bets for jacuzzi. Its location is a bit remote. No good restaurants nearby, which also close around 7 pm. No other night entertainment. Taxi has to be arranged ahead of time although the staff was very helpful.

Good location - right by the wharf and the 2 shopping streets. Old facility - not enough outlets in the room (only 3, including the one in the bathroom, but you can get one or two more if you unplug lamp and coffee machine). We asked to borrow an ext cord or splitter To get more outlet plugs, they told me they don't have it, they did have a converter to convert my 3 leg computer plug to 2. When spoke to the assistant manager about suggesting getting ext cords or splitters for future visitors, she told me she thinks 3 is enough for each room (there were 4 of us in the room), and if we like, we can move furniture around, and may find 1-2 more outlets. in the end, they did find us extension cord to use. But I was surprised with the manager's attitude. Having said that, most of the staff there were very nice and helpful with what to do in the area. We most likely will not return to this hotel in the future, we saw other hotels near by that may fit our needs better. But it was not a bad stay, just small things here and there.

fantastic ambience and sweet staff

This was our first stop in Taiwan. We wanted to ease ourselves into a country we knew little about. Coming to Sun Moon Lake was perfect in easing into Taiwan and I wish we had stayed longer.
Before arriving we communicated with the hotel to arrange us a taxi from the airport. Although you can get to the lake easily via public transport I wanted a chance to see the sunset and a taxi ride would get us there in 2 hours.
The hotel arranged the cheapest price taxi (I'd tried online to find something cheaper but my quotes were double the hotel price).
When we arrived the hotel is located on the lake. It's a boutique hotel so it's not palatious but it's clean and the room was huge!
The staff were very sweet. They gave us a tourist map and carefully explained everything.
The area is sleepy but cute in the night. We went out to the night market which closes at 8pm. The night market is literally one street from the hotel and was heaps of fun. As Western tourists we indeed received a lot of attention. Vendors gave us beers from their own six pack and wanted to chat to us! It was an incredible experience.
We took our spoils and sat on the lake to eat dinner.
After that we went back to our hotel. We were still awake as it was only 8pm.
we'd upgraded to the lake view room And were able to sit on our balcony in the late evening and listen to a local play their flute ...
I wish we'd stayed longer. This was a lovely stay.

Convenient but quiet

Great location on lakefront right onto the Ita Thao pier area and next block from the food street (hence not as busy). We loved the fact that it wasn't as crowded as the main town, Shuishe, and once the day trippers are gone (last ferry about 5 or 6 pm depending on season), you have the whole town.
Be aware it's not party central, and taxis after hours to Shuishe is NT$500. We had to catch a 9am bus to Alishan, so the hotel staff called a taxi for us, although there is a local bus at 7:20am (when we were there; bus timetables in Taiwan are \"flexible\").
We had \"Moon\", which has great views, but \"Dawn\" doesn't; there are only 4 rooms per floor, and I think all but \"Dawn\" has views, although there is a viewing deck on Level 10.

The room is very big and comfortable. There is a massage bath tub in the room so that you can enjoy a relaxing bath after a day-long journey. The toiletries are of high quality. The car park is a few minutes walk from the hotel, however you can park your car yourself or let the valet do it. The location is great. The lake is just in front of the hotel and you can enjoy the lake view with ease even you are not staying in a lake view room. The service is excellent.

The best place to stay on Sun Moon Lake

There seem to be 3 options on Sun Moon Lake. The first is the several large, luxury, isolated hotels such as Fleur de Chine or Hotel del Lago. The second is hotels located in the village to which the busses from Taichung arrive ...... Shueishe .... A too-busy town with little character, mostly a transport hub. The third is a smaller town across the lake, Ita Thao, which maintains much of the mountain people character. I would highly recommend this town as a base, and this hotel as the best place to stay.
In Ita Thau, the Crystal Resort is located directly on the lakefront, convenient to the boat dock, and a short walk from the round-the-lake bus stop. You find yourself in the center of things ..... Many shops and small eating places, a short walk to the native dance area (free !) , and a short walk to the cable car up the mountain. You cannot find a better view than frm the rooms in the front of the hotel. The restaurant in the hotel serves wonderful dinners ....Mountain fusion .... with local ingredients, beautifully presented. Buy a bottle of the local millet wine to enjoy with dinner.
We got great advice on what to see from Anne at the front desk. She also supplied us with all-day boat tickets for NT$ 100, and solved our biggest problem ..... My wife bought so much of the local fruits and veggies that we would not have been able to carry them as we continued our trip. Anne provided a big box and tape for us to pack them and arranged shipment to Taoyuan for NT$ 400 !

Good hotel, but room is not really clean

We were upgraded and had a good experience. Great near the harbor, but you cannot drag your luggage on the boat. You need to take bus or taxi to get from the main bus terminal to the hotel. (20 min. by cab twd 500,-) Room was ok, but a bit dirty when you look under the bed and behind the curtains. Some dark corners got spider webs, and carpet got stains.Overall OK experience, but for the price I expect a cleaner room. Dinner and breakfast was good if you like local food.

Great hotel at the Sun Moon Lake

We arrived hotel at Ita-Thao of south rim of Sun Moon lake on Sunday afternoon, it was packed with tourists. Driving was a bit of challenge and hotel's parking is a few minute walking away. Friendly staff showed us parking lot and guests can be transported by golf cart ( we just walked). There are only 20 rooms in this hotels, so the attentive from staff was great. We have two rooms facing mountains and one facing lake. Although it is $60 dollars more, yet the views of lake is priceless. Every room has a king size bed, a jacuzzi tub, shower and a fancy toilet. Room rate included breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is combined of Chinese or Continental styles. Dinner is a special treat with local produce. One night was french style with multiple courses and another night was gourmet Chinese dishes.
Hotel is next to Ita-Thao boat deck and convenient to visit other point-of-interests. Ropeway is in a walking distance, and all others attraction need a bicycles or car ride.

Great service, good location, cheap tacky hotel...

We spent 2 nights at this hotel... booked since it was part of the SLH group... i must say that we were quite disappointed... the Dawn rooms have no view at all, the windows face a concrete wal... that is not the hotel's fault, hence mine... however, the hotel is not Luxurious at all... all about it screams cheap and tacky... the common areas are in desperate need of a wipe and scrub and overall a full-on renovation... the rooms are ok, but with major design issues such as the toilet and the bed in the same area, just separated by a curtain... I must say that Anne and her team went above and beyond their responsibilities to make us feel at home and service was spotless... food was just average... location was great though...

Do not book the 'Dawn room' unless you have no other choice. It overlooks a dumpster bin and faces a wall 2m away. If you look hard enough, you may get a glimpse of the 'mountain view' promised in thee hotel advert.

Great hotel at sun moon lake.

It's a luxurious hotel as its name and it's really nice. Everything is perfect about this hotel except the information provided on expedia site on how to get there. I admit that it's not easy to get to this hotel without knowing that there are 4 piers in sun moon lake. After alight the bus from Taichung, we had to ask several people and kept us worried on where the hotel was.

One thing that expedia didn't make it clear what type of the room. It only says 'dawn' room which the view isn't that pleasant. If you happen to go to Sun Moon Lake, you probably wanna see the lake view the most.

Overall, the hotel is great but info provided on Expedia must be improved.

A very pleasant stay

The hotel is quite simply lovely and is located very conveniently next to the pier whereby you can take the available ferries across the island. The stay are very friendly and knowledgeable about the sights around the area and are always willing to suggest possible activities. The food that the hotel provides for dinner is scrumptious and is simply a delight to one's taste buds. The only downside is that the area around the hotel is somewhat deserted at night and there is really much to do, but this is inherent to the area and is of no fault of the hotel's. In summary, it was an excellent stay with wonderful facilities and my girlfriend and I really had a marvellous time.

although the hotel allowed us to check out another room at 1pm, but up to our surprise, when we return at 12pm, the hotel claim that the cleaner already pack and clean our room and place all our belongings one side without touching. the room card cannot even activate the powered supply , so we just got to pack quickly and leave with our sweatly attire after cycling. the worst when we return our country, we discovered we left one bag of clothing which is the hotel room toilet, the hotel insisted us to pay S$30 for the postage of returning the clothes to us. No way to return this hotel again

great place

The room is spacious and clean. Service staff is excellent - very helpful and patient. Dinner is fantastic with great service. Gym is far too small. Getting to the hotel from Taichung station was troublesome - ended with going in a cab but landed in another hotel with the same name.

A must-stay hotel

When I arrived the lobby of the hotel, we was greeted by warm and pretty staff. The check-in was a breeze and we were escorted to a beautiful room with lake view. The room is unqiuely designed and the bed was so comfortable.

Good advice

Hotel isn't as fancy or luxurious as it looks in the pictures. Free breakfast and dinner are a nice perk. No swimming pool. No where to swim in all of sun moon lake. The town of Ita Thao is small and dead after 8pm. During the day it's just a few gift shops. You need to take the boat to the main pier (100nt) or a bus (32nt). But both services end at 5:30pm then youre stuck paying 500nt for a cab back. Try to negotiate.

Will consider The Lalu for the amount i paid

First impression, receptionist was very rude and angry to our nice friendly driver/ guide when he asked for directions, making the poor man visibly upset the whole journey. Otherwise, same lady (i think) was pleasant enough to us the paying guests. Hotel gave us a room upgrade to a nice large room, but we had to catch lots of flying bugs, and cushions/ sofa could do with cleaning. Might pay slightly more to stay at The Lalu next time round as all the activity seems to be that side.

Crystal Resort Sun Moon Lake

The hotel was beautiful and the room was spacious, clean, comfortable and the view was excellent. I choose the Moon room and it comes with a wonderful view of the lake from the room. The room comes with a living space and a personal jacuzzi. There is complimentary breakfast and dinner and both exceeds my expectations. There is a wide variety of cuisine for breakfast and a number of selection for the 5 course dinner. Overall it was value for money.

The Crystal Resort - not a small luxury hotel

The hotel is alright but definitely not a small luxury hotel! We have stayed in quite a no. of small luxury hotels in the past. This one is the most disappointing! The furnishing in the hotel is very dated and run down and the finishing is not luxurious! The only saving grace is that the staff are pretty nice and helpful.

The hotel offers dinner and breakfast as part of the package....honestly, the food is very basic and not tasty.

Crystal Resort Sun Moon Lake

I stayed at Crystal Resort Sun Moon Lake for 1 night in October 2011. This is a very amazing hotel - the location overlooks the beautiful scenery of Sun Moon Lake and there's an awesome rooftop deck on the top floor that allows you to experience an amazing view even if you're not staying in a room with a view.

Firstly, I arrived at Sun Moon Lake by bus from Taipei and the bus stop was on the other side of the lake. The visitor's centre helpfully explained that the best way to get across to the hotel was by ferry, and the ferry dock was a short walk. It's a short 10 minute ride across to the other side. Here the hotel is the first tall building as you walk off the jetty, you can't miss it!

The room came along with both a full dinner and breakfast and when I say full, I mean both were HUGE! There was a wide range of western options for both meals. While I wouldn't call the food quality amazing, the meals were very filling and satisfying. A great way to keep up energy on all the walking around the lake which you're bound to do. A short walk away, perhaps about 20 minutes, is the awesome cable car that takes you through the mountains to a large indigenous Taiwanese park which is quite fascinating. Nearby the hotel are plenty of tourist themed places.

The room was one of the ones which doesn't have a view but despite that it was still very luxurious with a large bathroom complete with jacuzzi and big shower. The room size wasn't huge but definitely big enough, a very comfortable bed & huge TV were also there. All up I can't fault this hotel, the staff were incredibly helpful and so friendly, they certainly take a lot of pride in running a really good luxury hotel and it shows. I've no doubt there are cheaper options around the area but if you really want to enjoy the experience of Sun Moon Lake this is a great place to do so.
