Beautifully restored old hotel with great views

This is a place full of character. 3 very old buildings on a hill overlooking the golden horn and Bosphorus. It has been restored and decorated to a high standard. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The roof terrace gives an amazing view. Unfortunately it was too cold to use the swimming pool.

The worst experience of my life. First, the room was so bad and dirty. The train ran under my room, and it was so noisy because the room had really bad windows. The biggest problem: the hotel was on a very high street; no buses or anything went there. Even taxis charged extra to go there because it was so high up. Going up felt like climbing a mountain. I booked for three days but couldn't stay more than one; I left. At night, there was a big fight outside my room, and one guy tried to climb up to my window. It included breakfast, and I've never seen a worse breakfast in my life. I don't recommend it to anyone, especially if you want to enjoy your time, because everything and everyone in this hotel will make you sad. I give it -10000000.

It is a quiet and charming hotel, in a very nice old building, the service very friendly. The views are the best part. It is true that you have to climb quite a steep hill to get to the hotel, but overall worth the effort.

We stayed there for 4 nights. Overall we would rate 8 out of 10. Area not the best even it's central part of the city, and very dark streets around there at nights, good to have a flashlight. But hotel has cameras all around for safety. Members of staff excellent, very caring and polite, helpfull and willing to provide the best service, open 24/7. Specially welcoming member of staff was Ibrahim. The view from there is amazing, swimming pool very refreshing, breakfast great, changing few positions every day.

This is a clean pleasant hotel with wonderful views.
The rooms are a little tired but ok - Good shower and AC.
The streets around the hotel are very run down akin to a shanty town with begging kids but just sad not dangerous.
A very steep incline to the hotel - so if not able bodied get a taxi
I enjoyed my stay and would recommend this place for the cost.

UTTER DISGRACE

STAY HERE AT YOUR PERIL. The worst hotel experience I EVER had anywhere in the world. Airport pickup - prearranged but no sign of driver for an hour in spite of numerous calls - car pumped fumes back in... but that was the LEAST bad aspect of the 10 hours I spent before leaving 2 days early to another hotel. Arrived at 2.30am to find that though we had booked on this site a room for 2 adults and 2 kids, hotel gave a room with 1 double & 1 single bed. When we complained, refused to do anything instead they called the owner who screamed at us down phone & demanded extra money to give us enough beds. After nearly an hour of refusing to accommodate us, our children crying with fatigue, we slept 3 to a bed as we were exhausted. When I say slept, this is loosest term. The hotel is directly above a railway line that has loud freight trains clanking thru every 20-30mins thru night. Awoke to a dirty room, with a cracked sink. So offensive were staff we were scared, I had already booked a different place. Left to check out, past the broken pool looking like a crime site. We explained what we were doing and got more grief from shouty hotel staff, who only then said we were going to discuss in morning (1). After an hour refusing to help us when we needed. We then went to pay the airport transfer which they refused to take credit card and made us walk 15 mins with luggage to ATM to pay cash. Hotel claims 4 star - barely 1 star. A total disgrace.

Hotel was good in general. Our room was a bit small but guessing it was because we had the economic room. Breakfast was great, plenty options to choose from. A truly Turkish breakfast. The staff were friendly. Location was walkable to Sultanahmet. Overall, good experience.

The property has amazing view better view of golden horn, partial boshups and bridge, Galatea tower, camlica tower than Any other 5 star experience hotels I stayed. 5 minutes walk away from metro station to taksim square -fatih ect. However there a stiff hill to walk to hotel I don’t mind but it is there which help property to have the view.
Definitely will be back. Staff member ibrahim was there every day a true gentleman hard working.

2nd time in Istanbul, last time was in a 5 star on the northern side - but I was happier here. Brilliant hotel. Wonderful room, great staff who accomodated our family of four despite a mistake in our booking. Thanks Mr Gezili for looking after things on the day to day basis and the wonderful owner who let the kids swim after-hours to cool down after a hot day in the markets. Will definitely stay again. Complimentary tea and great location for the little more adventurous!

Overall staff were polite and room was clean. They allowed us to check in early which was nice. Location is really good as its only a short walk to the market and had good links to trams/buses. However, building is old and we was given the room by the lobby area, this meant that we could hear EVERYTHING coming from the lobby which was disturbing as staff mingled and spoke on the phone using loudspeaker in the middle of the night and woke us up. Don’t take the room by the lobby if you hate outside noises.

I booked it for a two day stay thinking that it was in a wonderful location for me and family. As soon as we saw the location up a narrow road at the top of an alley way we turned around to book another hotel. The location was terrible for me and my family, it would have been a nightmare to take the stroller up and down the narrow alley way.

I have chosen this hotel because of its 4 star rating but In reality it is not even a 2 star hotel.
Bath and toilet is very small. Towels are very old and teared out.
There is no tea kettle in room and they charge too much money for tea and water.

little gem for such a cheap price

Amazing gem in the middle of Istanbul tourist area. Only reason I haven’t given straight 5s is because this is a 150 year old building and I don’t think anyone could make the building 100% without spending millions. Staff very helpful and friendly and you won’t get a view like this anywhere in Istanbul for the price we paid. Minutes walk from markets, mosques etc. Some of the other buildings nearby are a bit run down as well.

Hotel is OK but up a very steep hill which is in a rundown and derelict area and only 1 out of 4 taxis actually found it. We arrived late at night and were seriously concerned at the area on arrival. However hotel was good with a brilliant view of the Bosphorous. Would not recommend for older guests or those with young children because of steep stairs in annex which could be dangerous. Staff were very helpful.

Our room was the first one to the right off the lobby. It had a lovely view of the river, and we could see the hotel terrace. There is a balcony but only the room next door has access to it. The air conditioning worked well. The small pool looked refreshing and many guests were in it, but we didn’t get the chance. The breakfast included a large variety of items and is served around the small outdoor pool with a view of the river. The gentlemen who worked the night shift at the reception, Enes, spoke English very well and was extremely helpful with advice about what neighborhoods to visit, ideas about dining and called a taxi for us to return to the airport, half the price of the private transfer. The room was clean and had a mini-bar fridge. It is uphill to get there but it’s downhill only a few blocks to the subway. We were offered tea and water and enjoyed the lovely view. Ines also called us a taxi the previous evening for the morning we left. Private transport to or from airport is 50 euros and can be arranged with the hotel via email. We paid $3.50 each to arrive by Havas bus from the airport, leave from birth #17 direction Sultanahmet-Eminönü IST-20, and $23 to return by taxi. It takes 45-50 minutes to arrive by bus and you see sweeping views over the river/sea to the Asian side. The trip by taxi was 32 minutes. We asked him to use the meter. He was not thrilled, but it cost us half the price he wanted to charge us before we asked to have to meter running.

Beautiful views and a great central location that gives you an authentic feel of Istanbul.
The staff are always very friendly, helpful and love children! We travelled with a baby and they always supported us with a baby chair, boiled water to prepare formula and gave us great advice on sight-seeing locations.
I think the only thing they should add is coffee and tea facilities in room.

Not what it seems - poor hotel.

We checked into this hotel for a 2 night stay and we paid approx. £60 per night. We were shown the room by the night porter. The room was so small we instantly complained and we were told to raise this with the manager in the morning. I raised this with the manager in the morning and asked for a different room to which he replied we only had one more night left and he had no rooms available which was a lie as we seen people checking out meaning their rooms would have been available, so we did no feel valued. The room was so small we had to store our luggage on the desk, the shower had so much mould and the general room was dirty which the gowns provided had food bits on and the curtains had stains on. The view from the room looked like a war zone and getting taxis to and from the hotel was difficult as this was in an awkward location. The pool area is decent but thats their selling point and it is smack bang next to the entrance, reception and dining area so you never had alone time with people just lounging around so don’t be fooled my the pics. In the last 2 years, I have been to 8 different countries and travelled to many cities within and stayed in 4/5 stars and this is no way a 4 star, more like a 2 star! Before staying here I was staying at the Orka Royal Hotel & Spa for 3 nights and paid £46 per night and this was a proper 4 star, amazing hotel and perfect location which was a 10 minute walk from the Blue Mosque.

The hotel staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. The room was cleaned everyday. The only thing I could fault is the cleanliness of the sheets as there were a couple of stains. Other than that, it was a great place to stay. The hotel has a Fantastic view and is in a good location. 10 mins walk to the tram stop and 5 mins to the train station.

HHK was excellent. Everyone on the staff was very nice. The hotel is a huge historical home that has been beautifully restored. It is located right in front of the Halic metro station, just a little ways up the hill. It's a 5 minute walk to the Suleymaniye mosque, 10 min walk to the Eminonu ferry terminal, and 15 minutes to the beginning of the Grand Bazaar. Our room had an amazing view of the Bosphorus.
The bed was quite comfortable and the bathroom was very modern.
Breakfast has the same amazing view over looking the pool. Breakfast has a large assortment of cheeses, olives, cold cuts, vegetables, pastries, cereal, boiled eggs some days and scrambled eggs others, coffee, tea, and juice.

Positive things:
1- Once you are inside the hotel, you have a great view from the terrace (you can see the city and the Golden Horn)
2-The breakfast was great and the staff were very nice.
3- The location gives you access to Istanbul metro (Halic station).

Negative things:
1- To get to the hotel from Halic metro station you have to walk uphill (there is a sharp slope from street to the hotel), so if you have an old person with you or somebody who can not walk uphill I would not recommend this hotel. That said, you can also access hotel from Vezneciler metro station but it is a bit farther.
2- Hotel is located in a poor and worn-out neighborhood. There are alot of abandoned houses around the hotel, so do not expect a fancy looking location.
3- Not all hotel rooms have a nice view. Our room was standard and it was actually quite dark. It had windows to the back alley, but they could hardly be opened. We talked to hotel manager to see if we can change our room but we were told that this is how standard rooms are and we need to pay a higher price for a \"sea-view\" room. So if you go to this hotel, DO NOT book Standard or Economy rooms, or you might end up in a depressing room!
4- When we searched Expedia for hotels, we went for hotels with a shuttle from/to airport, but this hotel does not really have a shuttle, they have a car which charges 25 Euros, which is much more expensive than any taxi you can get.

Pros:
1-Location & view are excellent next to metro and bus station and stunning seaview (one of the best)
2- Staff are the freindliest ever possible
3-Food is fresh & yummy

Cons:
1-No ventilation in the rooms or the toilet ( It gets really wet and smelly)
2-There was water leaking in the wall next to the bathroom and it was smelly too
3-No phone or kettle provided so you have to dress up and go to the reception every time you wanted sthg.
4-The third bed in the room was a folding bed and it was not stable & moved suddenly every time you moved.

Things to note:
1- Location is uphill so it is not suitable for elderly or someone not willing to put the climbing effort for the stunning seaview
2- The property is old and historic home-style and you will enjoy it if you like old-style homes. Do not expect a modern facility.
3- You could hear the metro since you're close to metro station. I didn't mind the sound but other visitors did. You can also hear sounds and footsteps from other rooms since the building is wooden.
4-The neighborhood is quite old and is spooky at first impression if at night but during the day this impression will fade away

General impression:
Will come back again for sure but will make sure to contact the hotel first to check what rooms and amenities are available

Don't be fooled by the area where the hotel is situated, because once you enter the hotel premises, you will feel much better.
Service was excellent, in particular Fah, who looked after us very well.
Breakfast was also great, with variety to suit everyone's taste.
Only remark was a bit of the walk to Grand Bazaar and nearby public transport.
Overall, very happy with our stay.

Nice hotel at a good price for Istanbul. Good breakfast all continental but plenty of choice with cereals fruit and yougurts. The areas not the best but we never felt unsafe the best way to it is see the train bridge on the main road and the hotels directly behind it up the hill. This is the best way in and out. The taxi fare from Atturk airport is 70 tl so it's the best way to find it. The beds are comfortable but the rooms are getting ready for a refurb now. For the money it's still worth it.

This property has a remarkable view. It is stunning. It is a renovated home of 200 years. Breakfast was just ok not as good as other hotels we visited in Turkey. The rooms are small and very quaint and the view of our room was amazing. Beware the hills are steep coming up to the hotel and not such a nice area. A taxi driver dropped us off one evening and commented as we got out that it was such a bad area. I never felt afraid and the walk down to local shops and public transit are easy. It is within walking distance of many sights, attractions and restaurants. Many taxi drivers do not know where the hotel is so we had to tell them the mosque and walk to the hotel (this route is flat). I did have a bad experience with the staff. We only encountered 3 staff members working the front desk and one was very polite. The other two seemed put off having to talk to and schedule things through a woman. I felt disrespected and would not suggest this place only because of that. Many others give high remarks to staff but a few others said they were rude to their wives. I believe it.

The hotel is really in bad location. I have to walk up in the hill to reach it. the area around the hotel is really below poor class. more like slums.
the way to the hotel at night scary and creepy, my kids were really scared everyday we go there. the metro, the tram, and buses minimum of 10 to 15 min walk, if going down the hill. but if coming back to hotel it takes more time. the hotel itself is built of wood very old building but renewed however, the stairs were unsafe at all because of the high step and the wood. I fell one time with my kids almost hurt myself. the basement has no stairs arm any one could just fall into the basement.
the staff were friendly but they didn't care about my comfort or my kids when we arrived all they cared about is to sell tours tours and tours. they wasted my time for hour even though I told him to stop and give me the room key he continued to talk about the tours.
the only thing that I give them good review about is the view from the terrace. the room view (sea view) is more like side view to slums with touch from the sea. the rooms extremely small. I requested room in the ground floor for my kids safety but they didn't give me.

The hotel is well located and has an amazing view over the city. Even though we spent the first night in an uncomfortable, a bit smelly and very small room after booking a superior room (we arrived late and no change could be made - The night staff was incredibly nice and helpful), the next night made up for that as we were upgraded to a very nice spacious room. We advice to verify the room size upon booking, as small rooms (~11m2) with a view are put in superior category as well. The friendly helpful staff and location are reasons for us to book again in the future.

The best Hotel in Turkey

Situated in the old city, the HHK hotel is a nice boutique hotel made from an old mansion. The views are breath taking with the best staff you will find anywhere. within 5 minutes you can reach suleiman mosque, 15 minute walk to the spice bazar and 30 minutes to the grand bazar. The train station is a 10 minute walk to get you anywhere in Istanbul.

My wife and I had a great time at this hotel and the staff made us feel very welcome like we were at home.

If I shall name 2 of the best hotels I´ve been in my life, this hotel will defiantly be one of them. Amazing view, super friendly and nice staff, fast internet connection, nice and lovely rooms with very good air conditions, cold and hot water in the shower, delicious breakfast, tea and coffee always available to drink, clean.... all in all perfect hotel and highly recommended.

The only \"problem\" is the uphill from the main street to hotel which was not so easy for my parents to walk up and down everyday.

5 star where everyone are treated as VIP's

I wanted a hotel with a pool and a view over the Golden Horn/Bospherus within our budget and the moment I found this hotel I knew it was the one! We were treated like VIP guests from start to finish. It was heaven to cool off in the pool (with a view) and then to relax on the terrace (with a view). The view from our room could not be better. The staff were fantastic. We stayed for 4 nights, went to Cappadocia for 3 nights and then went back to HHK Hotel for 1 night before our return to South Africa. We felt like we were coming home. The food was really good. Complementary drinks (loved the lemonade). We walked everywhere. Spice bazaar (very close by), Galata Tower, Taksim Square, Basillica Cistern etc. Kerim arranged all our tours. They even phoned our Hotel in Cappadocia to confirm our transfer from Nevsehir airport to our hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel and cannot wait to return. Thank you again to Kerim and all the other staff for your friendly service.

Great view of the massive city, pool was small but refreshing.

Best Hotel with amazinf terrace and room view on t

Recently I stayed at this Hotel for two nights, I must say I truly enjoyed the warmth, friendliness , warmth and professional dealing of staff so much. I was given a nice room with view of the river. I really enjoyed going to the terrace in the morning, the terrace has amazing view. The breakfast was not less than 5 star, staff are very friendly. The price is reasonable for such high standard place.

I genuinely thank the staff to have let me stay and I sure I will return to Istanbul and stay there, I would say to all people visiting Istanbul to stay at this nice Hotel.

A hidden gem overlooking old Istanbul

This is a boutique hotel, an old mansion trimmed in gold with incredible views and staff. It has a pool, solid breakfast, and beautiful rooms with views. It is set atop the decaying ruins of old Istanbul, just a short walk from beautiful mosques, the souk, public transit and calming parks. I can hardly wait until I have the chance to return.

Great terrace views!

Fantastic place to getaway and enjoy the spectacular terrace views! Not a boring, cookie-cutter hotel, but a renovated 200-year-old home. The staff are super-friendly and make you feel at home. The budget rooms and bathrooms are a bit small for western standards - but how much time are you in there anyway? All that is needed is there. The neighborhood is great for walking to all the major sights in the old city, but be forewarned, the actual streets needed to reach the hotel are a bit dodgy - as in don't walk alone at night, perhaps. But, we never felt unsafe. With the hill to get to the place and the streets it is on. I wouldn't recommend this hotel for families, but definitely for single folks and couples. I plan to go back whenever I'm in Istanbul and want to relax.

True Turkish Experience

Great hotel in historic Sulaymania district to see real Istanbul. Walking distance to all major landmarks and views are amazing. The staff is exceptionally helpful and friendly, breakfast is better then big expensive hotels and wifi too. I would always stay at this hotel in Istanbul!

Great base from which to explore Istanbul

We enjoyed our stay at HHK. Service was excellent and the hotel, while old, is well-maintained. Room was spacious, comfortable, and the free WiFi worked well. Breakfast was good. Some rooms and the hotel patio offer a nice view overlooking the Golden Horn and its junction with the Bosphorus.

It is a 10-minute walk to the aptly-named Grand Bazaar and 5-minute walk to the Spice Bazaar. Great area for walking. There is a metro station (Green Line or M2) in the middle of the bridge over the Golden Horn, within a 10-minute walk of HHK.

Our taxi driver had a hard time finding the hotel, and it may be worth paying a bit extra to get drivers arranged by the hotel who know this part of the city. The immediate neighborhood of the hotel is not good, but is not dangerous either.

HHK provides free one-way transport (to OR from) Ataturk airport (IST).

Visited Istanbul with family for a couple of days. Hotel and staff are excellent. It is uphill so may not be useful for elderly or people with young children. Hotel restaurant is very overpriced. Buffet breakfast was very good. Views of Istanbul were remarkable.

Excellent place!

the staff is excellent. they made early breakfast for us at 3am as we had a flight. they also gave us a nice free room upgrade. also I had fever and they bought and delivered a thermometer to my room. really really nice folks. the hotel is at a hard to find location and nobody knows about it but it is minutes away from suleimaniye mosque and many other landmarks.

Historic hotel with amazing views

Upgraded me to a view of the Bosphorus. The staff could not do enough to help and guide us through the delights of Istanbul. The views from the terrace are amazing. The only negative was the area is in need of renovation but the hotel is very beautifully renovated.

The staff were extremely friendly and made me feel very welcome immediately upon my arrival. The hotel has a pleasant terrace with a pool and a nice view of the Bosporus, which is nice to take in as you're having breakfast. My room was cute and clean and also had a private terrace with a view of the river. The location is walking distance to several mosques, the spice bazaar, and other attractions. The neighborhood is not great, but the hotel itself felt very safe and has 24 hour security. The staff arranged a Turkish bath for me and also provided transportation to the bath house, which was nice.

Roof top view is to die for, great customer servic

Let's start by saying the rooftop is everything. Best view we found. The service was perfect, rooms extremely clean and the staff was veryy accommodating. We received welcome drinks on roof top at arrival, a large breakfast buffet daily and guidance on all questions any time of the day from the front desk. Pool area was great as well. Location seems a little odd at arrival but it completely adds to the charm. Safe neighborhood and Everything was literally a 15 minute walk. Would highly recommend to anyone who is interested in staying on the European side and wants to be close to all of historical sites.

We stayed for 6 nights and at departure the hotel set up a private complimentary breakfast for us at 3 am. I mean who does that?

Nice hotel. Friendly personnel. Beautiful view to Sea. A little bit noisy due to metro. Swimming pool is working and clean. Breakfast was testy and fresh. If you travel with small children - it is not your variant, as there are a lot of dangerous stairs.

Brilliant hotel! Staff very friendly and when they found out it was my wife's birthday gave her a fruit platter amd everyone shook her hands and wished her happy birthday. Great location - quick and easy to get to all the major sights.
We loved our stay here and our room, 301, had the best views.

Lovely hotel to recommend albeit the neightbourhoo

The hotel was lovely and the staff extremely friendly. The neightbourhood is not the nicest but still safe. The room was spacious and clean, but the balcony door did not keep the wind out. We had a wonderful time whilst staying in this hotel and as the taxis could not find it easily, the hotel had prepared a leaflet with instruction to give to the taxi drivers, which made it easier.

my first time to Istanbul and a very good experience. We loved HHK, the staff were very helpful and welcoming. The view from the room was good and the breakfast was tasty. Will love to stay here when I come back to Istanbul. Just one suggestion would to ensure the tv are working and maybe include a channel in English.
