PERFECT!!!! We were a group of 14 traveling from NYC to Turkey for the very first time. This hotel was just perfect for us, very convenient, clean and most polite and welcoming staff. It’s the perfect location for tourist. The guys at the front desk was exceptionally friendly and gave us some incredible recommendations of places and events, Mevlut and Mahmut deserves an award for their hospitality 😄😄. Love their rooftop dining, great breakfast.

Perfect location to the main attractions. Hotel is next to the Golden Horn River, 5 mins walk to the Galata bridge, to the tram station, Halic metro station and Galata Tower. Make sure to ask for a room in the new building. The smaller old building is kind of outdated. Lots of eating shops along the Golden Horn. So glad that I chose this hotel. Hotel also has a rooftop restaurant with excellent views.

I stayed at this hotel in 2012 and would say it was better then. The breakfast was better then. The air conditioning in our room was not cold enough even set at 16 degrees. The mattresses in the rooms where not the most comfortable and far too soft. The room window would not close tightly and hence could hear the traffic all night long. The rooms were clean, showers were also good, however in some of the other rooms my party stayed in the shower cubicles were tiny. Front reception staff were nice, Ilker and Mahmud. Staff at breakfast time were not very friendly either.

Best thing about this hotel is the view from the roof restaurant area, overlooking the city.

Fabulous location and incredible views of the Bosporus. Personalized service and a friendly, helpful and caring staff whose warm greetings always made me feel at home.

Even though I had a problem with booking ( “no refunds” —- I had made an error on my arrival day) I was more than happy to return after a five-day excursion to Cappadocia.

General Manager Ali was available in person and by text for any question or concern.

I enjoyed the rooftop restaurant. And the staff there accommodated my special requests.

(Restaurant service was a bit slow, but I was not in a rush. Vacation! The meals were delicious and always beautifully plated, and presented with style)

Dreadful hotel. Unfriendly reception staff. Small dated room. Aircon didn’t work. Unsafe and inconvenient master card activated light switch in room. Breakfast basic and coffee machine non-functioning. No facilities whatsoever. Reception area like a funeral parlour. Booked for 5 nights and checked out after the first night. Management not remotely interested in why we were checking out and refused to refund for any of the unused nights. Do NOT stay here. There are plenty of alternatives. Try the Momento Golden Horn hotel instead. Far superior in every respect and similarly priced.

The staff are so kind and hospitable. I did not take his name. He is a handsome young man at the front desk on November 8. He was extremely polite & helpful. He went the extra mile to answer my questions.
Now, my original reservation at a different hotel was canceled for some reason. So I walked to a second hotel next door, and the man at the front desk was also kind & helped me find a room in Golden City Hotel. The impression I get in my interactions with the locals is just wonderful. Hospitable, soft spoken & kind. This may be their culture, but as far as Golden City Hotel is concerned, I am grateful for my experience there. One last thing, the breakfast on the top floor, gives a spectacular view.

My stay at this hotel was a terrible experience from start to finish. The receptionist was rude and unhelpful, setting a poor tone from the beginning. I had to switch rooms twice due to the first two being infested with flies, and while the third room had fewer flies, it was still unacceptable. To make matters worse, the entrance to the back 'new' building had an overpowering stench, reminiscent of dead animals, which was both unsettling and disgusting. The only positive aspects of my stay were the bellboy and housekeeping staff, who were friendly and professional. Unfortunately, their kindness couldn't make up for the numerous issues. I would never stay here again.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Istanbul Golden City Hotel. They free upgraded our room with Bosphorus sea view on a higher floor because it was my birthday!
The breakfast option was marvelous at the rooftop Restaurant. Enjoyed the magnificent city view with morning coffee. Only critic would be we saw someone ordered omelet for breakfast but when we asked for it they said it would be extra charge. The hot breakfast was included in our stay so that was a tad confusing.

It is a very decent hotel, for the price we paid, and the convenience of the location it was good. The minibar fridge in our room didnt work and when reported to the front desk it still wasnt sorted out other than that it was a very decent hotel. You get what you pay for.

Too much attitudes from morning shift front desk.

The hotel was in a noisy place. You could hear the noise from driving cars and people on the streets. It was the first hotel that asking me back for the key card. I asked for 2 card. The front desk guy was questioning me why. Same with my other groups of family. He had a lot of attitudes toward the customers. He was trying to prove him selves that he has right to argue why and reasoning. Also, when I was inside the elevator the lights turned off and I had to go one floor at the time. Freaked out. Only fits 2 person or one person with one luggage. There is parking with pay extras but very nice guy. I asked for Iron. They did not tell me for how long. They entered my room and picked it up while I was not there and I put a sign do not enter. When I came back I was looking for it. The night shift guy was extremely nice and understandable and very friendly.

We paid for a room with a view of the Mosques and the Golden Horn, however the windows providing those views had bird crap on them. The Manager said he could do nothing about it.

The lifts in the hotel can only fit two people, which was an annoyance during busy periods.

If you can avoid it, do not take a taxi arranged by the hotel. They will quote you one price and at the end of the journey, you will pay more. I think the hotel staff are in league with the taxi drivers and get a percentage of the taxi fare.

Good location, one block from the Bosphorus. The hotel is divided in two buildings that are not connected, the second one ‘more modern’ is in the back that you have to access via a dark dirty alley. The entrance to the second building smells like rotten fish.

Located 6 minutes or so from the T1 tram station at Karakoram and the M2 metro at Halic.
Nearby there are several fish restaurants. Very few grocery stores, none that sell liquor.
Hotel rooms, bathrooms are tiny. Elevator capacity is 3 people.
Breakfast buffet is not abundant, just the basics. Only black, filtered coffee available, no machine that can dispense espresso or cappuccino. Boiled and scrambled eggs provided, omelette is extra.

I booked a room with panoramic view. It's the whole reason I chose the hotel. Upon arrival, only a regular view room was given. I called the reception and he argued that one of the pictures on display was not panoramic view and it's upon availability. However, the room size wasn't right, and I paid more for the room type. I was moved to the right room the next day. No price difference was given for the first day. They should be more honest with the room description by removing the wrong picture and honor the room type per booking.

A hotel ultimately rests on the quality of its staff and the staff here are amazing from Ali and reception staff to the excellent Peninsula restaurant staff - with a special mention to Besat and the lovely cleaning and service staff.
The room was spotlessly clean with fantastic views over the city from tbd rooftop restaurant. I would happily stay here again and recommend unreservedly .

It is a fantastic location to visit Istanbul sights but that also means it is quite noisy. But then I imagine most of Istanbul is noisy. Easy walk to the trams and tunnel train. The staff were superb, friendly and helpful. Ali and his team could not do enough for us. The area is a little odd - the hardware district, but we found that it felt safe at all times, and somewhat interesting. Many fresh fish restaurants nearby on the waterfront. Breakfast is excellent. It is an inexpensive, functional hotel that works well for a short stay. Many people seemed disappointed with their rooms but that is a reflection of their high expectations and clever marketing photos. It's fine. We booked for 5 nights and stayed 8 and , if I was to return to Istanbul,I would stay there again. Recommended.

The hotel is located by the waterfront and restaurants, but also surrounded by tool/hardware shops. It's a convenient area between Tarlabaşı an up-and-coming neighborhood known for its gentrification (Streets are packed with stores and restaurants) and the old city across the Galata bridge. The traffic may make it difficult to sleep during the daytime (it does quiet down a bit during the night time). There are several public transportation options a short walk from the hotel.

The area was industrial and awful. The hallways were not air-conditioned, and the room air conditioning went out in the middle of the night in 90° weather. The rooms were tiny, the bathrooms were even smaller with such bad lighting I couldn’t put makeup on, let alone shave my legs!
The elevator is so small that two people and one piece of luggage could not fit in. I had paid in full and walked away from my money to find another hotel.

We spent 6 nights in Istanbul and booked 2 rooms as needed the extra space. 2 adults and 2 children aged 12 and 8.

Was a last minute booking as change of plans. Previous reviews had me a little worried but was pretty good overall.

Staff were excellent-spoke good english and always gave good advice. The rooms were clean and all facilties were available. A/C was in working order and showers all nice and hot.The location was not bad with walking distance from the tram station which will take you into centre of Istanbul within 10 mins. Brilliant views from the top of Istanbul too. We had breakfast just one day which was nice and delicious too.

Some negatives- room size and lifts on the small size.
Restaurant- asked for a glass of milk for our youngest but asked to pay. Not a problem but as a good will gesture would have been nice to have been give that as other hotels around the world (Dubai). Also ordered plates of fruit which was very expensive with additional service charge too.

Would definately recommend and like to thank Ali and his team for their kind hospitality.

We stayed on top floor (9th) which had great view of the little Bosphorus. Short walk to public transport, and central for fish restaurants.
The street below seems filled with trades supply shops. So not so classy however safe to walk around

Hotel has a decent restaurant on top terrace with great views while dining. Breakfast was great and lunch and dinner is avail with the typical menu of kofte, fish, chicken and salads and beverages

One thing to note, if your a/c is not working, just ring the reception as they have a seperate switch

If you travelled with the bus from airport, get off at taksim however the you may find it hard to get a taxi, you need to walk to corner in the direction of hotel.
And if you are lucky enough to get a taxi they will charge a fixed rate (not meter), at the time of this note cabbie asked 100tl, approx $4usd. Which is a fair price but if you can convince one to take you

Finding a Taxi was difficult as taxi drivers wanted more money because of traffic jams in and out of Sultan Ahmed area. We liked the staff very much. Booked a panoramic view room which was expensive for 4 nights but which i am glad i did. In retrospect, the rooms are not huge and although they are justc a place to sleep, a normal room would in my view be quite claustrophobic. The panoramic room, afforded beautiful views of the Bosphorus and surrounding area.
The breakfast was typically Turkish and is served on the top floor of the hotel with magnificent views.
Cleaning of rooms were spot on and you were always left with plenty of supplies and fresh towels even if you didn't want these changed.
I would recommend this hotel for its close proximity to Galata Bridge and Haliç.
Staff were generally courteous albeit not over friendly.
A great stay was had by all.

Golden city hotel is conveniently located within 6 minutes walk to the harbour for ferry trips including Bosporus cruise and 5 minutes to the tram station to explore Istanbul. The staff at the hotel was extremely helpful and friendly and were always available for any advice. Mr Ali at the front desk was brilliant and of great help through out our stay. General manager Mr Oner was also amazing , friendly and very helpful. The staff advised us about our trips exploring Istanbul. Istanbul is a magical city with extremely friendly people. Amazing location and view from the 10th floor where they served breakfast was amazing. Staff was really helpful and they cleaners kept the place nice and clean.
Only one thing which I think was only down side was the lifts, they would only hold 1 person (2 if they are skinny) this made getting to the room or leaving quite annoying sometimes.
