The hotel is simple but very comfortable. We stayed in a quadruple room with four twin beds, and the layout was great — we had plenty of space to move around. The room itself was updated, and while the bathroom was fine, it wasn’t as modern as the rest of the room. The heating worked very well, which we really appreciated. Breakfast was good too, although it ended at 9:30am, which felt a bit early for a vacation spot.

We absolutely loved the location. During this trip to Rome, we stayed in three different areas: one near Roma Termini, another close to Fontana di Trevi in a more touristy neighborhood, and this one in Prati. By far, this was our favorite location. It was very easy to get around both on foot and by subway via Lepanto Metro Station, and there were plenty of great restaurants nearby for dinner. Walking past Vatican City at night on our way back from dinner was truly one of the highlights of our trip.

The service was very friendly. The room was ok, I would say the bathroom looked a but dated and was shower only. The breakfast was decent if you’re happy with cereal, pastries etc. but not much in terms of hot options. Wifi worked. Location was pretty good.

On Monday, August 18, 2025, at approximately 8:30AM, we left our room at the Hotel for breakfast downstairs, in the same hotel which offers free breakfast, while our belongings were still inside the room, with the sign of privacy properly displayed outside on the door's handle.
At our astonishment, when we returned, the room was wide opened, and the house keeper was in process of cleaning the room. My wife's wallet was missing, with monies and our US passports inside . Although the cleaner said that she only opened the door for cleaning purposes, that she didn't enter the room, nonetheless, the 5 euros left on the TV's table with a \"thank you\" note for their hospitality, was gone. When confronted with the removal of the 5 euros, the cleaner said that she took it. However, she denied taking the wallet... Charges were attempted to be made on my wife's bank, and credit cards at 09:26AM. We are still very surprised to notice that one can have their wallet stolen on the property of an hotel!

The front desk staff were friendly and answered all of our questions about how to get around the city. They had a nice breakfast . In the evening we enjoyed sipping wine on the rooftop terrace. The room was a little warm, but we are use to air conditioning in the US. The location was excellent to walk to Vatican City. It was a little bit of a hike to the Spanish Steps, Colosseum, etc.

I would love to give this hotel 5 stars, but it needs to address some issues. The staff is great and the location is very convenient, within easy walking distance of the Metro and many good eating places. Unfortunately, the air conditioning drain line empties into a jug on the floor which overflowed and soaked the carpet, and the room is unacceptably hot. The breakfast is a good continental style, with only hard boiled eggs. The fruit was canned peaches and canned prunes. There is only one key to each room and you have to turn it in when you leave the property. This could be a great hotel with some investment in the property. Give them a try in cooler months if the price is good, just be aware.

I'm leaving a good review because all the staff I met during my stay were super polite, which was a pleasant experience. The breakfast is decent. I loved the expresso coffee and lemon cake.
Plus the hotel is located in a nice neighborhood, it's close to my favourite Gelateria and restaurant in Rome.
The rooms, on the other hand, could use some upgrades, especially on soundproofing from the hallway.

The hotel staff was amazing - especially Corinna who was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable.
We loved the room with the balcony!
The hotel is within easy walking distance from many famous sights and 10 minutes to the stop for the sightseeing buses like Hop-on and IOS.
The roof-top patio is lovely

Just about 1-2 blocks away from the Metro. Breakfast was great, pastries, danishes, yogurt, cereals, meats and cheeses, cappuccinos. The room was not a bad size for 3 adult travelers. The staff were friendly, and able to answer all questions we had. The property has an elevator that fit all 3 travelers with our luggages. Easy to find the property. Overall would stay here again! This was a quiet, comfortable mid-range hotel. My friend and I were happy with the size of the room, the air-conditioning, and the neighbourhood surrounding the hotel. The covered patios on the main floor and the fourth floor were particularly wonderful spaces to have a picnic or read a book, a really unique feature. The beds weren't the most comfortable, but that we were so tired from walking around Rome that it didn't matter. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would stay here again!

The door lock needs to be updated. You have to use the key to lock the door, essentially locking you in. Unless you leave the key in the keyhole, it's dangerous if there's a fire. The bathroom door doesn't close smoothly. The bottom scrapes the floor. The shower door doesn't close properly. It's not as walkable as I thought it would be. The places where wanted to go was at least 20-30 min walk ie: Vatican, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain. The ladies at the front desk were very nice.

The staff are amazing, very helpful & accommodating. We got in early so we were able to leave our luggages in the hotel. Breakfast starts at 7:30 but we had to leave early one day, so Corinna requested for breakfast package for the 4 of us, which we picked up the night before. After midnight, there is no one at the desk & the gate is locked. You have to ring the night porter to open the gate for you. The hotel is walking distance to almost everything. Subway Lepanto is next block. There is a bonus terrace on the 4th floor/5th floor. This hotel is safe, clean & has the friendliest staff. Will definitely refer this hotel to my friends, and will come back.

Reasonable no frills hotel.

Pros - Great location, helpful staff and booking comes with a basic breakfast. Cons - Though it's not really a hassle, having to hand your key to reception every time you leave and having to request the night key if you will be back after midnight (and pay over €50 if you lose it) feels restrictive; like you are a child somehow. The key had a heavy weight on it that felt unnecessary.

The bathroom had a wetroom which I personally hate but each to their own. Not only that, but the water didn't drain immediately, so virtually the entire bathroom floor got soaked which wasn't great.

Overall, a decent basic hotel. You don't really expect much for the price.

This is a very simple hotel and is not trying to be anything else. It provides the basics, reasonable comfort and quite, but if you are looking for luxury it will not be for you.

The property is 5 minutes from the Lepanto metro stop, and close to non-tourist shopping.

Breakfast is simple. Prices for beverages are lower than most other hotels. Internet speed was good, but there were no English channels on the cable service, not even the BBC or CNN International.

Very Good location at a walking distance of Vatican and 2 minutes from Metro. Immediate neighborhood is not very active and only some few restaurants can be found. Hotel is fine but doors of the Rooms are very thin and Noise from the hallway can be annoying.

Perfect For A Family Sughtseeing Visit To Rome

We booked into Hotel Casa Valdese Roma in Rome based on the reviews online and weren’t disappointed. The hotel performed well for this price bracket. It was relatively easy to find and easily identifiable from the outside in what we thought was a quiet, mostly residential, area on the west side of the river, within comfortable walking distance of the Vatican and easy access to the east side of the river. Based here we used the hop-on-hop-off buses to get around or walked, and our 8 and 10 year old kids managed the distances without difficulty.

The room was basic but neat, clean and quiet. This room accommodated a family of four with an en-suite shower/toilet room. It was on the second floor but was served by both stairs and an elevator. The breakfast on a morning was essentially continental, with coffee, tea and juices available. It was tasty and filling.

The hotel staff were all pleasant, engaging and helpful. We would have no hesitation to recommend Casa Valdese as a great place to base yourself for a family sightseeing visit to Rome.

Comfortable and Convenient Hotel

This hotel was very convenient to public transport (both subways and buses) but located on a very quiet street. The room itself was very clean, and the staff very efficient. Breakfast was also very good, with convenient hours. The room was a little on the small side and set up somewhat monastically (e.g., twin beds, religious reading materials provided). There is one small flight of stairs to negotiate entering the hotel, but after that convenient elevator access is available. There is excellent wifi service.

First time in Rome - great place to stay!

The area where the hotel is located is full of lovely tree-lined streets. I had a spacious room with a street view, and extremely comfortable bed. The breakfast was generous, the staff friendly and helpful, all for a great budget price. Don't be put off by the distance from the heart of the city - it's a brisk walk away, about 15 - 20 minutes, and of course convenient to the Vatican area. There are plenty of small eateries and supermarkets around the hotel, so no problem sticking to a moderate spending regime. When I asked about getting out to Fiumicino Airport, the staff explained how to take an airport bus, the stop is located just 6 minutes walk from the hotel, cost (I think) was 6 Euros. The only minus point was getting stuck in heavy traffic on the way.

Perfect location- close to several of the historic sites! Food choices for breakfast is decent. We arranged departure transportation through the hotel. Staff were extremely helpful and patient with us and had excellent recommendations for sightseeing options. Would definitely come back.

Pros:- Room was clean
Location is great for the attractions - there are several bus stops and a metro station (Lepanto) close by if, like myself, you don't enjoy long walks in sweltering conditions.
Good acoustic insulation or other guests were just very quiet - no noise filtering in from the corridor or other rooms (great as I am a light sleeper).
Friendly staff
Cons:-Continental breakfast - I skipped as I like my breakfast cooked.
WiFi connection was intermittent especially on my phones and Ipad, slightly better on my laptop.

The stay was simply wonderful, the location was and great within walking difference of the Vatican and other historic sites. The metro is 2 blocks away which goes to the train station. The hotel was simply great, a little odd the shower did not have shelf for soap/shampoo. The nearby restaurants were decent for tourist area. This hotel is great for those up in age and enjoy the comfort of quiet.

Over all found hotel very good. Close to Metro station, Vatican, shops and restaurant. Air conditioning broke down and we were moved to another room. Sorted no trouble. Most of staff were friendly and helpful. With the exception of 2 female receptionists!! Seemed to take a dislike to myself and my friend. Locked out of hotel last night in rain until 1 of these receptionists could be bothered to open door. Also found quite rude on checking out. Maybe if I'd been with my husband I may have been treated differently!!! Shame as found everything else very good.

Hotel Casa Valdese was a very quaint hotel with the layout almost making you feel as a guest in a large Roman house. The room was comfortable, functional and clean. The location was in a quiet almost residential neighbourhood but close to the Metro and major buses that cover most tourist attractions. It was also close to The Vatican. Overall, it was a very nice place to stay in Rome.

Wonderfully old world charm!

Hotel Casa Valdese is in a great location for shopping and restaurants, including gelato shoppes. Off one of the main streets, it is very quiet and quaint with a superb staff willing to help with anything you need. Breakfasts are incredible.

Very basic hotel, bathroom had mould on the wall and a crack in the sink. Had to have the window open all the time, day and night as so hot. Inquired about the rooms air conditioning and was told that it is controlled centrally so could not adjust at room level, even though there is a panel in each room. There's no point having air conditioning if you can't control it yourself. The rest of the hotel was cool but our room was sweltering. Breakfast very basic continental. I wouldn't bother and have breakfast out.

Great hotel, reasonable, close to Metro

Loved our stay! Staff was friendly and helpful, room served us well and accommodated three people, and service each day was excellent! Only negative was very little counter space in the bath so it's hard to spread out. Also A/C and heat are legislated by Rome laws so we were unable to use either, but weather was nice so an open window was great as there was very little road noise outside. Definitely recommend!

Quiet street - walking distance to most of the major attractions (10 mins to Tevere River and Castel D'Angelo, for example).

The staff were incredible! They were SO helpful, always kind, and readily available.

The stay includes a nice breakfast - nothing fancy, but some good selection, including a variety of coffees and teas.

The room was small, but the shower was big and roomy and the bed was very comfortable.

I will stay there again when I'm next in Rome.

Perfect Gem in Prati

Great bed and breakfast hotel in Prati near the Vatican. Nice size room and very clean. Large bathroom as well with good water pressure and heat. The wifi also works great…but the real standout is the breakfast and overall staff service. The breakfast room has a full service coffee machine and expresso machine. Best coffee ever. The croissants are fresh baked and melt in your mouth. There are also cereal options, ham, cheese, rolls, yogurt, eggs - typical European breakfast. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

This was a nice three-star hotel. The room was very tidy. The beds are comfortable. Even though we left our room after 12 they cleaned it because they had not told us about this rule. The area was quiet but felt safe. Very close to the Lepanto metro stop. Close to Vatican and good restaurants. Not a touristy neighborhood.

The hotel was only one block away from the Metro station. The hotel was a nice size and did provide breakfast in the morning. I accidentally booked for the wrong day and they were kind enough to allow me to switch at no extra charge. The hotel was a little warm for my comfort and we were not allowed to adjust the thermostat.

Nice no frills hotel in a quiet neighborhood a couple blocks from a metro stop and bus line. Very convenient and quiet location with a friendly staff willing to help if asked. Had issues with the shower clogging the first night and after reporting, it was fixed that night when we had returned. I would stay here again as the value was well worth the location, service, and comfort.

Enjoyed our stay as a couple at this hotel, good location for all the sites of Rome and handy for places to eat. Can get quite a lot of noise from corridor but staff friendly and breakfast was excellent value

rick steves said that it was a bit utilatarian, not to us. wonderful location to visit rome from. 3.4 mi from termini but right off the subway ( Metro ). near the vatican. rome center was easily walked to. great roof top open areas. the staff was very helpful and friendly. suggested better ways to do all that we wanted. the best possible complimentary breakfast that we have ever seen. even had an extra menu listing many items that could be made for you, like bacon and eggs for example. even allowed us to use the cooler in the restaurant to keep our cheese and wine cold. the staff just couldn't have been nicer and with the excellent location, you would be hard pressed to find anything better.

Friendly, small hotel close to all.

This was my second stay at hotel casa valdese. It's a small place with welcoming staff. Not fancy but pleasant and clean. A great rooftop terrace with very nice views if St. Peter's. Don't miss the complimentary breakfast. Definitely would recommend.

A super value B&B

A super value B&B. I only stayed for one night but I would definitely stay again. Rooms are simple but comfortable. What really made it for me was the cleanliness of the place. The rooms and the bathroom were spotless. Check in was easy and friendly. Breakfast was more then adequate. A selection of cereals, cakes, pastries together with cheeses and hams. My only complaint was the surly lady who checked us out! Very unfriendly but we all have our off days. If you want a good value b&b within walking distance of the Vatican. This is the one! If your looking for luxury look elsewhere.

A lovely hotel

A comfortable room, very helpful staff, and wonderful breakfast included in the cost of the stay. Felt very in keeping with a visit to Rome. Secure, as the gates are closed at midnight. I would stay there again.

Quiet comfortable hotel close to all facilities

Friendly and helpful staff were able to assist us to have a troublefree stay. Rooms were light, bright and comfortably furnished. The one minus was the lack of electrical sockets compatible with euro adaptors; however this didn't diminish enjoyment of the room or hotel. Breakfast was simple, plain and filling.

Went home tired...

Everything was generally orginized and clean and what you would expect for a hotel of this price range, except for a good night's sleep – arguably the most basic but important factor. We stayed for 2 nights, attending construction night shifts nearby and only got to bed after 4am. On the first morning we got woken up at 8am by hammering and drilling from contractors in the hotel (!), and on the second morning received an unrequested wake-up call at 10am to be told that check-out was at 10am that morning. Both of these things could have been communicated to us on the evening before (when we requested the night keys) as the staff at reception was well aware of our circumstances.

Very nice hotel close to Vatican, helpful staff

The hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood close to the Vatican - 15 min walk also near metro and bus stops. Our room for three people was quite spacious and comfortable, with a very good breakfast. The staff was extremely helpful - the restaurants suggested were better than in our guidebook. Also when I made an error in check out, they quickly corrected it even though it was my omission. I would definitely stay at this hotel again and recommend it to others.

Lovely little hotel

Lovely hotel in superb location. Easy walking distance to the Vatican and the centre. The staff was very friendly and the room was large and comfortable. Nothing fancy, but good value for money.
