Ideal for Travelers on a Budget

I've stayed at Ashoka Hostel before. If you are a budget traveler, I can't recommend this place enough. I needed a cheap place to stay while getting my visa updated last year. So I stayed here again. I stayed during the May holiday this time, which meant the price was more than $44 a night, but it was still a bargain. If you are looking for a safe place to sleep and clean up, this is it. I didn't have a refrigerator this time, but it was okay. The rooms are super-tiny. But it didn't matter to me, since I was going out sightseeing anyway. I had clean towels every day, plenty of soap/shampoo, and an air conditioner and a fan so my room was nice and cool for sleeping. Plus, it's located right on Nathan Road, which made it close to so many cool things. Easy to walk to Victoria Harbour and other attractions as well. One of the staffers even remembered me! They even let me park my luggage after check out since my train didn't leave until later. I will definitely stay there again, as it's just what I need.

I have stayed here before-so know this is small, very small, but it was clean and had a TV, Hairdryer and hotwater in the hall if you bought your own coffee/tea. Reception is on the 16th floor, which really should be noted on Hotels.com, plus a 100 $Hong Kong is required as a deposit, they expected £ as I didnt have enough in HK$. The lift queue is long, so be prepared. Ideal for late check in. Staff were pleasant and everything worked as it should apart from the wi-fi.

Prison cells operated by scam artists

The room was a prison cell. The open floor space was 1 sq meter; just enough for the door to swing in. Bed was enclosed on all sides by walls. The 1 window looked out onto the concrete wall of the next building, close enough to touch. Bathroom is 4'x3': shower, toilet, sink altogether with a broken water heater.

There's some sort of machinery upstairs rattling away all night. Only at night. During the day it was mostly kids screaming in the hall.

Ashoka is on the 13th floor of a large multipurpose building. I walked those stairs at least once a day because the elevator was broken or so busy that nobody can get on. Expect a 10 minute wait for the elevator on the ground floor.

The front desk was occupied about 25% of the time. This will come up later.

When I checked in, I paid $100 HKD for a deposit on the keycard. When I left, there was nobody at the front desk to give me my deposit back. I put the keycard on the desk and called them later.

When I contacted them later about getting a refund. They said 'no problem.' But the refund never came. I contacted them again and they said they would get back to me. They didn't. I contacted them again and they claimed I had received my deposit back. I assured them I had not. They then told me that they had security camera footage of me receiving my deposit back! I told them to send it along! I'd love to see it!! They stopped responding. I never got that deposit back.

So, not only is it shoddy, they ripped me off, too!

Bring your own flash light Hotel

No bathroom in-the-room. No lights in the hallway. (complete darkness when goes to bathroom down the hall. Had to use my cell-flashlight) After mid-night saw a man sleeping on the floor behind the counter.

Very near to train, bus stops, shops and eateries... The staff there is always helpful going the extra mile to assist whatever is required... Although the room is small, it is comfortable enough and it is great value for money...

you'll get what you pay for

Though the elevator was always crowded and people are queuing long, it was an okay stay.. I think it was the owner who directed us to our room. He was kind. Room is very small as expected and shown in the pictures but was very clean. Just don't move a lot coz you'll bump into every edge and corner of the room. Haha. That's what I paid for! Can't blame anyone. HK is just reeeeally expensive.

As soon as i walked in to check in, there was a guy arguing about how someone stole his sunglasses in his room. At the time, I’m just like whatever. Then after one night, I noticed a brand new shampoo that I just bought was suddenly all liquidly inside when i used it again. One of the staffers stole some of my shampoo. Like really?? Who the fck steals shampoo? I also noticed my good gel in the bottle is kinda going low so fast even tho I dont use much. I have an Aunt in HK and she told me that this hotel is known for stealing. Have a good day.

Good for short stay, on budget and on the go

Room was very clean, very helpful staff and accommodating, The place is good for short stays or lay over, easy access to supermarket and mall across the road.

If your looking for living space to be comfortable if you want to stay in, i would suggest a brand hotel.

For those on the go most of the time or in for a couple of days and just looking for a place to lay their head at night, dump bags and clean up. This is ideal venue. I would not recommend for family holidays where you need comfort.

MTR nearby is easy to walk to, I suggest you buy an octopus card which you can load money on and get a refund on return at the end of your trip. This can be used on buses and MTR trains, this makes for easy transport to get around. this can be purchsed from customer service counter at any MTR station.

cheap but need to take care for safety

the hostel location just infront of the mtr exit E. however the entrance only with 1 lift for up and down. sometime very hard and we waited for 10min for the lift furing peak hour (dinner time)
the room is small but still worth for money.

This is by far the worst place I have seen. The rooms were clean and staff was nice. But an hostel in Asia is very different than a youth hostel anywhere else in the world. The picures on Expedia were false the room is the size of a closet 6×8 and sleeps 4. Only 1 toilet/shower for 20 people. The area is very shady and lots of people wnat to sell you drugs or watches on the street. I moved out after 1 night even though I paid for 5. People in my room did the same.

The place where we stayed in for 4 days. It's not that big, but very affordable, very clean ( just like in a 5 star hotel they do house keeping everyday) and the best thing about our stay here is that it feels like home because most of the staff and employees are pinoy. They're all warm and friendly. When we came from our flight, I was tagged \"No Show\" because our booking started on the 16th and we arrived on the 17th due to cancelled flight. In most of the hotels, once you are tagged no show your booking is considered forfeited or you would have to pay additional. We are so lucky that they still accommodated us. If you're looking for an affordable hotel I would definitely recommend Ashoka especially for budget travelers. You don't need a 5 star hotel to stay in because you travel not to stay in a hotel but to explore the city. It's worth what you're paying for. HappyCustomer

The Ashoka Hostel in the infamous Chingking Mansio

The Ashoka Hostel is located inside a peculiar building in Hong Kong's Tsim Sha Sui district of the Kowloon side. The whole building is called the Chungking Mansions which is an attraction of itself. One of the most densely populated buildings on earth many backpacker hostels and guesthouses occupy it's many floors. The rooms are tiny but most have wifi. The Ashoka Hostel is on the 14th floor. Make sure to take the elevator as the hallways can be a bit lonesome and risque. You are definitely getting what you pay for. A room in one of Hong Kong's most infamous buildings. The lower level contains a shopping market where you will always be bothered to buy goods or rent a guesthouse. The staff is nice enough and the room is exactly what to expect. It all depends on the other people who occupy your room with you. If they are good people you will have a good experience.

Ok for backpackers

We stayed in this hotel for 4D/3N. During our first day, the room we have stayed in has a defective lock. We had trouble locking the door upon going out and coming back in. The receptionist was helpful enough to assist us in locking the door (we could't wait for it to be locked as we were in a hurry to do things we need to do) and promised to change the door's lock but it was until our 3rd day when they really fixed it.

The room is relatively small, but is ok since there are only the two of us travelling and considering the price that we have paid.

The location is good especially it is just walking distance to Avenue of Stars and the Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station.

Cheap but efficient

Ashoka is in Chung King Mansion. Chung King Mansion has many hotels/hostels inside, so as soon as you walk in the door, you may get a bunch of people coming up to you to try to sell you a room. Just tell them you already have a room and keep walking to the elevators. You have to make sure you get on the correct elevator, and elevators in Chung King are the tiresome part of staying here.
Once you get to the hostel, it is safe, and a decent room to spend a night at a budget cost. The rooms are very, very, very small.
I would say that guys are more comfortable staying at this place alone than girls are, but really it is safe for anybody.
If you go out of Chung King Mansion and cross the main road and keep going straight (past McDonalds), when you get to the last alley before the next main road, turn right. Up there is a Turkish Kebab place, and an Ebeneezer's Kebab place. Both make great food. On that alley, there is also a Korean restaurant that is always full. My favorite spot though (after eating) is Ned Kelly's Last Stand, a bar that has a Big Band playing every night, and serves up fresh, cold San Miguel (among other drinks, of course.)

Best it can be in its location

This place is in Chungking Mansions, so it comes with the usual concerns about that (shady neighborhood, tiny rooms, etc.) with the benefits of that (close to the Metro and Macau ferry, bus directly to airport, and walking distance to Temple Street and Kowloon Park). So, if you're staying here expecting something up 3 or 4 star hotel standards, you really need to book somewhere else.

Now let's take it from a hostel/budget perspective. I've stayed here twice. The rooms are actually quite clean. The space, while cramped, is better than a lot of the other options in the building. So if you're willing to deal with the usual Chungking issues, this is actually a good option.

A memorable stay in Chung King Mansion

As this Hotel is in the heart of the city, what else do somebody want in such low price. The hotel was very clean. They offer free calls within HK right from your room. Apart from this, there is free internet facility and one can keep the luggage just in case there is a last day sightseeing plan. The owner Mr. Gurdev (David) Singh is very sweet and a wonderful host. I thoroughly enjoyed the stay in his hotel.

Poor service and attitude

The hotel location is still ok but once u get in the building it feel so unsafe for the ladies as there too much guys in the lobby. When we reached there the lady seem so unfriendly when She bring us to our room, I was unhappy as I didn't get the room as what was stated. I told her the bed wasn't the one described in the booking. Instead she told me off in the face that I shld go get a 5 star hotel, which make me more angrier. I will never go back to this place again.

This hostel in a mansion which has many other hostels in the same building and they have tie ups.

So even if you book in ashoka the chances are very high u get an accommodation in the next hostel which may not be equivalent to ashoka.

Overall ....center location.....too crowded...very small room.. bathroom only space to stand....no tv working ....

Just a room to sleep..decently clean.

Scary Location / Gave Room Away

Called in advance to let them know that I would be checking in late and they confirmed that that would be fine. I get there after a long flight, bags in hand ready to check in only to find out that they'd given my room away. After the manager lets me know that they have sold out, he offered to give me a refund. He ended up only giving me about 2/3 of what I paid. Super shady. Hostel is in a scary and dirty building and the lifts take FOREVER. If you do decide to stay here, be sure you take the correct lift.

Excelente localização, funcionários super solicitos, limpeza do ambiente, água grátis. Não gostei do banheiro pois era pequeno, não ficava limpo, chuveiro em cima do vaso e a entrada pelo elevador que era caótica pois tinham muitas hospedagens no mesmo prédio.

重慶大厦入口入ってすぐ左側にあるエレベーターで上がってください。ただ…Hotels.comサイトでも所在地は重慶大厦A棟13階となっており、実際に現地13階に「アショカホステル」はあるんです。でも外から入れそうな気配はなく、たまたま通りがかった女性に16階だということを教えてもらいました。タイミングが悪ければ途方に暮れていたと思います。。実際は16階です。ご注意ください。
設備は必要最小限。トイレにシャワーがついている感じ。設置してあるペーパーを濡らさないように避難させてからシャワーを浴びることをオススメします。僕はうっかりやっちゃいました(^^;)>
1Fエントランスは相変わらず猥雑な雰囲気で、苦手な人にはホントに無理なんだろうとは思いますが、こんな雰囲気を味わえる場所も香港にあっては貴重な存在だと思います。気になる方は今のうちに体験されることをオススメします。自分が訪れた時点では、落書きや数カ所のメトロ入口封鎖など多少デモの傷跡はあったものの、不自由なく香港旅行を満喫できました。
デポジットは125$でした。若いお兄ちゃんは端数をごまかそうとするので気になる方は要注意(^^)

香港最大級の台風の中で宿泊！良くも悪くもいい体験でした！

かねてから興味のあった重慶大厦（チョンキンマンション）。酷評や「意外と大丈夫」など様々なレビューが飛び交い、なかなか宿泊に踏み切れなかった中、2018年のシルバーウィークの連休中に香港を襲った台風22号の最中での香港滞在で、飛行機欠航によって延泊の必要が発生し、思い切って宿泊してみることに！
結論としては「無問題」でしたが、なかなかのハードルもありました！
まずは「エレベーター」。宿泊するホテルがあるのはAブロック、16階建のビルにしてはショボい2基のエレベーターは台風で運転停止中。近くには階段も見当たらない。さて16階までどうやって辿り着くか。エレベーター前で呆然としているとアラブ系のおっちゃんが「こっちだよ」と案内してくれそうな動きに出たが、恐怖心からすっと身を引く。その後遠巻きにエレベーターを観察しているとエレベーターに乗り込む数人の人が。すかさず自分も同乗！察するに、足が悪い老人だったそうで、イレギュラーで稼働させたっぽい。そして無事に16階に到着。
次の問題が「チェックイン」。頭にターバンを巻いたお兄さんが受付してくれました。唐突に100HK＄の要求。デポジットだろうとは思いながら、ボッタクられるのも覚悟で渡しましたが、これは結果的にチェックアウト時に返却されました。
続いては「違うホテルへの案内」。チェックアウトが完了すると「8F Singaporl」と書かれたメモを渡された。「？」と思いつつも、エレベーターは運転していないため奥の階段で8階まで下る。しかし8階には窓口的なカウンターは一切無く途方に暮れる。すると屈強な黒人さんが現れ、フロアの解錠方法や部屋への案内、諸々の説明とともにカードキーを渡してくれました。
駆け足な展開に呆然としながらも、ひとまず荷物が置けて一安心。他のレビュアーの方も書いていますが、香港の安宿ではホテル間での連携は日常茶飯事のようですね。知らないとちょっと困惑しますので、事前に想定しておく方が賢明です。
この日は台風でエレベーターは停止中。宿泊者は狭い階段を地道に昇降し外出していました。結果G階の裏手にある階段の場所も把握でき、重慶大厦の全貌を窺い知れたような気がしました。
台風上陸で、尖沙咀ではコンビニに至るまでの全ての店舗がCLOSEしている中、重慶大厦の各店舗は逞しく営業していました！そのためフロアは賑やかさに包まれていました。自分もカレーとピザを購入しホテルの自室で食しました(旨かった！)。
思いの外室内は快適で、建物全体がカオスな空気管に満ちている分、自室がユートピアのように余計に感じました。
良くも悪くも、重慶大厦は自身で体験してみないと判断出来ないように思います。個人的にはまた機会があれば宿泊したい場所であります...機会があれば..。

ロケーションは◎、重慶マンションは思ったよりも危険を感じませんでした。
でも…
3人用ドミで予約したところ、案内されたのは（当たり前のように）4人用ドミ。
部屋タイプが違うと言っても、ここしかないの一点張り。
夜遅いし、次の日も早いので仕方なくここで１泊。
オーバーブックの場合、同クラスまたはランクアップ、下がる場合は差額返金は、日本人特有の感覚なのか？（差額と言っても、元が安いだけに少額だが）
ちなみに、部屋は写真とは似ても似つかぬ部屋で…wifiもほとんど使えず。
翌々日からも香港泊を予定していたけど、ここのホテルが満室で予約できず、結果として良かった。
おかげと言ってはなんですが、他で見つけたホテルがずっと安く、部屋もきれいで、サービス、対応ともに良かったのはなんとも幸いで、香港に行く時の常宿が決まりました（そちらはシングルで）。
昨年もhotels.comさんでホテルを利用して支払いにちょっとしたトラブルがあり…。
別にhotels.comさんが悪いわけではないんだけど、相性とかあるんだろうか？
対処してくれるからいいんだけど、できればトラブルなどは無い方が…。
