I can’t say enough good things about this hotel and its staff. Everyone was so hospitable at front reception, and the kitchen staff and sweet Wilberth, Raul, Christian etc., they were so hospitable and kind, making sure we were well taken care of. This place is a hidden gem and also so close to amazing places to visit. The rooms were immaculate and we had a huge king bed that was very comfortable. I highly recommend this hotel!

Very clean and quiet resort. It was huge with so many amenities. Our room looked exactly like the pictures.

Only thing to note is the property is about a 15 minute walk from the main town with restaurants so be prepared for that if you did not rent a car.

Great stay and amazing location but the room was not clean. Right when my friend and I walked into the room, we found an acrylic nail on the floor and hair in the shower. The towels had bleach stain on them and the mattress was really hard. Like rock solid. The property is gorgeous so we had no complaints about that and staff was very nice, especially at the restaurant. We also had a big bug problem in the room (understandable since we are in the jungle I get it) but it was really bad. There is a gap under the sliding door with squished bugs that were not cleaned. SO many bugs and we were freaking out killing them everynight before we went to bed.

Absolutely wonderful hotel! An amazing space that feels like staying in a rainforest but with all the amenities you could ask for. The restaurant was amazing and the same price as mediocre food in town. Great location close to the tourist sites with a great view of the volcano. We couldn’t have asked for anything more!

As many folks have already mentioned, pictures do not do justice to this place. We stayed in a deluxe 2 bed villa and we loved it. Breakfast was very good as well. If hot springs is not a priority for your stay, this should be your go to hotel in La Fortuna area.

Lovely grounds and friendly staff. The property was so lush that it felt like we were on a movie set (such as the White Lotus series). The restaurant was excellent, the rooms were quiet and well appointed,and the beds were comfortable. The only downside was a missing screen on one of the sliding doors in our room, but overall a very enjoyable and peaceful stay and we would come again if in the area!

Amazing property for family with three active boys/ the waterslide, gym and padel courts were awesome. Breakfast was nice each morning although very slow service so plan on a full hour for breakfast. Amazing food, comfortable rooms. Some art by local artists in the rooms would have been nicer since it looks like they renovated and just opened quickly without making it too homey. It was also pretty echoey because there weren’t art on the walls. The mirror above the seats was also set up for very tall people. Like taller than 6ft

Our room was very nice and fairly new, however the master shower could be looked into from the room next door, as well as the walkway out front by restaurant.

Staff was mostly nice, however the restaurant service was very bad just about every meal. There was also construction at the gym/fitness area that caused much dust and noise, closing off areas. And there was a pool also closed for construction. Another issue was the lack of laundry service, especially since the electric (air conditioning) shuts off in room when you leave, so the humidity builds up and nothing ever dries.

Boutique Casa del Rio exceeded all my expectations! The property is very lush, beautiful, and well-maintained, and so convenient that it’s close to town.
The staff are very friendly and the hearty breakfast included is amazing. The rooms are well laid out and spacious, including the bathroom with a large walk-in shower and the most powerful rain showerhead. This is the most efficiently run property I’ve ever stayed at!

The Hotel del Rio was absolutely amazing. The staff was super helpful in all regards from event planning to dining to recommendations on sights to see etc. The rooms were very clean and modern. Every morning they asked about whether we wanted service or not. The on site amenities were very diverse from sports to spas. Even our kids did not get bored. Lots of trails for walking. The rooms were very private as well, I am not sure I saw or heard another guest except for at the restaurant. Would recommend to anyone and would stay there again if in the area. One of the best places we have stayed on vacation.

Staff was courteous and attentive. The grounds are beautiful and the entire complex is gated so you are totally safe. The amenities are well maintained. My kids loved the availability of the soccer pitch, basketball court and gym. We even played a round of tennis. The room(cabin) was clean and comfy. The private jacuzzi on our private deck surrounded by rainforest was a great feature. The layout provided plenty of privacy. The restaurant staff were great and the food was delicious, even for my picky teenagers. The location is just outside of down town so you are just a few minutes by taxi and plenty of options for adventures that pick you up at the hotel. Definitely would recommend!

It’s a great place. We had fun times. Breakfast is awesome. The room are spacious. It has all individual type room so it makes it more cozy. There is a huge shower and separate bathroom so the family can speed up. It also had a king large bed. The place itself had a good out of trees and at the night they had a good lighting. It makes made it very special. We also did a spa and had a great time.

Casa del Río is a true gem in La Fortuna. The property is beautiful, peaceful, and surrounded by nature — we saw birds and even monkeys during our stay. The rooms are spotless, spacious, and very comfortable, with lovely views that make you feel completely connected to the environment.

The staff truly make the experience exceptional: warm, attentive, and always willing to help with recommendations, tours, and transportation. Breakfast was delicious and fresh every morning, and the restaurant is excellent for both lunch and dinner.

The location is perfect — close enough to town and attractions, yet quiet and relaxing. If you’re looking for a boutique hotel with outstanding service, comfort, and a genuine Costa Rican feel, Casa del Río is the perfect choice. We can’t wait to return!

Free breakfast has limited choices, but still good food. The service on our last day there wasn’t the greatest, not sure why.
The rooms are clean but had very lukewarm showers-when it’s raining so much a warm shower is appreciated.
The hot tub was lukewarm and we would be chilled sitting in it. Again, when it’s raining an it’s nice to sit in a hot tub.
Otherwise, clean, great location, nice views at the restaurant. The service started good at the restaurant and then went down hill.

The perspective of Vulcan Arenal was perfect from this perfectly situated property. Great food ranging from Costa Rican to international, available throughout the day.
I preferred their salt water pool to staying at a different resort which featured thermal pools- then we chose to drive back to eat here once more- so good. Just know in advance that you may not drive to your room; must take a jitney.

I had the pleasure of staying at Boutique Casa del Río, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. The location is absolutely beautiful — nestled by the river, with peaceful surroundings and a charming ambiance that instantly makes you feel at home.
The rooms are tastefully decorated, combining modern comfort with local character.

Everything was spotlessly clean, and the attention to detail was impressive. I especially loved waking up to the sound of the river and enjoying my morning coffee on the balcony.

What really made this stay exceptional, though, was the hospitality. The staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Warm, welcoming, and attentive — they made us feel more like family than guests.

We had an amazing time at Casa Del Rio. The staff were very friendly at check-in and during our stay. We enjoyed the different pools and the fun waterslide. The villa we stayed in was very comfortable and spacious and we really enjoyed having a grill on the deck and being able to self-cater some nights. We enjoyed the breakfast - there was a good selection on the menu and especially Diego was a fantastic waiter who looked after us and the kids really well. The location is really good - just a few minutes from the town but in a nice quiet location and close to the La Fortuna river and waterfall.

The property is beautiful, we saw lots of different birds. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant ranges from good to excellent. Their signature cocktails are quite delicious and very reasonably priced. Minor issues with our particular room: USB ports that did not work, but plenty of outlets if you have USB cubes. while there is loads of shelf storage there is no place to hang items other than a couple hooks in the bathroom. The biggest negative for us, since we are light sleepers, or the peacocks. They scream all day and all night. If this is not an issue for you you will have a wonderful time at this hotel. It is beautifully appointed inside and out.

Lovey lush property that cannot be beat. Plenty of activities, our 8 year old loved the water slide, soccer field and basketball court. There is also a paddle ball court but it was $60/hour extra. All other amenities are free. Free unlimited coffees from a machine in the gift shop was wonderful enjoyed plenty of cappuccinos! Perfect location, it is on a quiet, small side road just outside of town. We enjoyed walking down the road to get volcano pictures and the neighbourhood properties/farms. It is a safe area. The hotel itself is completely walled in, you cannot see inside the property at all until the wall slides open for you when coming and going. Staff are friendly and quick to help. They will drive you around the property on a golf cart if you like! Accommodation is individual villas, we had a luxury one with the whirlpool on the deck but they all looked private and concealed with natural flora. The room was modern and tidy. We requested house keeping clean the floor but unfortunately it was just swept or vacuumed, they don't seem to mop, the floor was filthy (made our feet black) the entire four nights we were there. I would say this is the only thing that could have been improved upon. We had a car, it was just a couple minutes to town by driving. We would absolutely stay here again as a base for exploring La Fortuna area. Pick this hotel if you want a quiet stay, immersed in plants! Restaurant had good food, free (delicious) breakfast and the servers work so hard.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff are friendly and organized. The onsite restaurant is delicious. There’s plenty to do on the property with the spa, various pools, gyms, and other outdoor activity. It’s safely and conveniently placed near the active parts of town and night life. We highly recommend staying here. The only negative was how loud the birds are that are onsite, but when on vacation I’d chose that over the sounds of sirens and cars racing in the city at home.

From the warm welcome from the staff to the wow factor of our room and the grounds, every minute detail played a part in the overall experience. The experience was great. The staff was pleasing and the restaurant was pretty good. It’s an amazing facility that felt very private and full of beautiful trees. It was near everything . Would love to come back

The place is beautiful and we felt safe while staying. I understand that no matter where you stay in Costa Rica there will be bugs and such staying with you. We felt the resort could have put more effort in maintaining that the doors to the room closed without gaps that allow bugs to get in so easily. There was a large gap under the entrance door and also a gap between the sliding doors. At night we had to keep the lights off to not attract the critters into our room. I woke up each morning to ants being around my toiletries and toothbrush.
The staff was helpful and responded quickly to any questions we had.

The place was quiet and peaceful. We had the pool to ourselves the couple of times we used it. The two things that I was on the downside is that the vegan options for breakfast was extremely limited. The one time I ate there with my children they were nice enough to provide us with oatmeal. I wasn’t sure if i ate there again would i have been charged since oatmeal was an extra charge so I decided to make my kids and I our own breakfast. Also, there was a weird noice in my room that sounded like a knock on my window. The sounds started at 5am and continued till 7am for the 3 nights I stayed there. I still don’t know what it was but it was weird. other than that the place was beautiful. I just with their breakfast meal was more inclusive to everyone dietary needs.

Beautiful property and a very attentive staff. The property is well kept and the gardens are very beautiful with the Fortuna River running along the hotel. Breakfast was included and was delicious! The breakfast staff were amazing and front desk was great too!
