Overall, I liked my stay. The bed was comfortable and the proximity to the beach was great. Unfortunately, I found it difficult to find fresh food (e.g., groceries) within walking distance. Eating at the hotel's restaurant was the only option. The buffet was ok, but did not have as many healthy choices as I would have hoped. Also, there were some inconsistencies in pricing (the front desk mentioned 19 euros for the breakfast, my Expedia booking said 10 euros, and I was charged either 10 or 15 depending on the day). The gym was also relatively nice, although the air conditioning did not work well. The windows were open the four times I went, and the room was very humid and hot, unfortunately.

Laid back beautiful property. While it is summer in the USA, it was not considered summer season in early June while we were there. Low staff and some activities and pools not full hours. The staff that was there was patient, welcoming and very professional. We would come again! Also, the lobby and our room smelled amazing! Some sort of jasmine scent? Whatever it was, it was a very nice scent

Both large pools closed without notice and also the pool snack bar making a large outdoor area worthless. SPA booking App did not work saying everything was booked for weeks ahead. Breakfast room dirty and disorganised and food only passable despite relatively low hotel occupancy. Staff (except cleaners) unfriendly. Was not even asked how the stay was when leaving. Booked a junior suite that overlooked roofs with solar panels and the side of the balcony overlooked all the hotel bins and area where restaurant staff congregated to chat and smoke. Every night staff emptied glass bottles and rubbish well after 10pm in the bins making an awful noise. Overall, a lovely spacious room, but poor service, amenities and rather low quality.

The hotel is ok, the staff is very friendly and effective. However, norms for the COVID protection are not really enforced, in particular at the restaurant. In addition to that, the rules governing the use of swimming pools are not respected, there are children everywhere. Early in the morning the noise starts, with the cleaning staff trolleys circulating. The noise level in the restaurant is extremely high and nobody cares.

We only stayed one day, it was beautiful and the food was very good. It was off peak, and a lot of the amenities were not available. One one pool was open and the lower restaurant are were closed. The walk was a little bit of a hike to the beach. Since it was off-season, we had the beach to ourselves. The beach was very hot, the sand was dark and grainy. The view was very nice. The resort is perfect for a family in season. It has a nice laid back private feel.

Door was rotting in bathroom because shower leaked so badly. Nice big bathroom. Great food at the bar, had a burger. The buffet ($16 euros) is not the greatest quality, not into casseroles and \"quantity over quality\" food. There are restaurants, gas stations,
coffee shops, and grocerie near by. We got a great rate at this hotel, a great stay.

Racial abuse and segregated to our bedroom due to dirty looks stares (from both Male staff and guests) and asked to pay for All drinks even though we paid for half board.

I’ve been to to this hotel last year everything was perfect . So I booked again this time with my 32 yr old son asked for superior deluke room with 2 single beds when I arrived the room was small with a king size bed note my last visit the superior deluke was bigger better All round . Add reception 3 times the first time the lady appolagised as she noted the request on the booking . All that was done the double bed that 2 separate covers put on them so my son slept on the sofa bed for the price of nearly £ 400 sorry just not good enough . There was a wedding on at the bottom bar area so only one bar open in the main hotel with just one person serving again totally unexceptable . I’m sorry to say I will not book this hotel again

Went there as a last minute decision due to an issue in our original itinerary that forced us to detour. The hotel and room were very nice and spacious, and the bed was very comfortable. In terms of location, there isn’t much around, though. You would need to
take the bus into town to see the sights and for dining options, otherwise, your only option is to eat at the hotel, which is pricey at the restaurant. We ate at the lobby bar which was a bit more reasonably priced, but average quality. For an all-inclusive vacation, it would be pretty fun since the pools are beautiful, and the beach is very close-by, plus in the one night that we stayed they had lots of activities, but if you are looking more for an adventure, there isn’t really much to do in the immediate area.

Second Time Around

We stayed here in February and liked it so much that we came back for my husband's birthday. It was so peaceful and relaxing on our last visit that we assumed it would be the same this time. Unfortunately, there were a couple of really noisy groups staying on our second visit who got louder and louder as the evening wore on. The acoustics in the bar and dining room seemed to amplify the already loud noise and it became so uncomfortable that we went to our room. Otherwise it was as good as before. The reception staff deserve particular mention as they are unfailingly helpful and welcoming, and always make each guest feel special. The chefs are also fantastic. I need a gluten free and lactose free diet and the chef on duty always found time to go through the menu to ensure that I knew exactly what was suitable. The only small criticism I had was that the shower cubicle leaked all over the bathroom floor,and the toilet roll holder looked as if a good clean would not go amiss. Otherwise, the room was great and the bed so comfortable that it was a pleasure to go to sleep!!
I would definitely go back a third time.

This was the third hotel I stayed at during my trip. Hotel is fairly modern, everything is clean and crisp. Views of the ocean were beautiful. Staff was very nice, my Espanol is lackluster, to say the least, but I was able to make due. Most of the staff also speak English. Fun fact the room service food is decent but I am not sure they follow a standard recipe. I order two items on two different days and they were made noticeably different. When I return to Almeria I will definitely stay here again.

Somewhat mediocre experience. This property certainly doesn’t match the brand standards I’ve experienced at other Barcelo hotels. Staffing levels are poor, service is patchy across all departments from housekeeping to front desk. The in-house restaurant has *some* good produce and dishes but on the whole it’s disappointing. The rooms and public areas aren’t in anyway offensive in terms of 4* but certainly don’t book if you want decent food, drink or service. It’s basically a package holiday resort hotel masquerading as something it’s not.

Nice hotel but a bit rundown on the outside and the surrounding beach area. This hotel caters to all-inclusive so food and beverage prices are a bit high. We stayed one night and were unable to get a coffee in the morning unless we had the buffet. The lobby bar doesn’t open until 10 am and 15 to 18 Euros for just a coffee was a bit much.

Parking outside the hotel is easy - my room was huge with a very comfortable bed and lovely balcony. Great wifi and shower too. Gym was modern and more than enough for weights and cv. Spa only €9 and relaxing and clean. The food was absolutely excellent and was one of the best breakfast I’ve had. Staff friendly and the pools

Beautiful modern hotel near beach

Found this hotel to be very modern, clean, and beautiful. Large breakfast buffet with myriad of options, gorgeous pools, and only a short 5-min walk to the beach. A little noisy in the early evening due to music, but quieted down by bedtime. Outside of Almeria proper in a manicured resort area. Felt safe, while still being able to venture into the main city in our rental car. All in all, a great stay which we would be likely to repeat in the future.

Located inside a private development (host of the 2005 mediterranean games) called El Toyo, the hotel is the perfect choice in matters of access to and from the airport /Almeria/Parque de Gata eco park. A taxi ride from the airport to the hotel will cost 20 Euros-fixed price as taxi drivers will refuse point blank to switch on the meter. Alternatively, have a bus ride @1.10 euro from outside the airport. Accomodation is good- linen and towels are first class, pools are spacious and never crowded.The hotel also offer leisure activities around the clock. If deciding to go to the beach head to playa de la Fabrequilla which is inside the eco park -20
minutes ride by car. Cant fault anything. Great stay.

Resort is outside remote Almeria Spain. On beach. Loads of pools. All families with small kids who eat dinner at 10 pm and dance until midnight, mostly Spanish but a few Brits and Germans. Nothing to see or do nearby, so don't plan to leave resort. Food was plentiful, local, and lovely. Hotel staff spoke English sufficiently to let me get by with my high school text book Spanish. Good place to stare at sea and unwind.

The hotel was lovely. The view from the room was excellent.The beach was just across a walk way. The food in the hotel was great, anything you wanted for breakfast. The only down side would be, the pictures of the hotel show a lovely in door pool. This is actually a spa area, and you have to pay €12 each for 90 min. use which we thought was very expensive.

Hiking in the Cabo de gata

The hotel itself is very nice but you need to drive to locations you want to visit. not a bad drive to San Jose to hike or to some of the local beaches. We went in early June and the local towns were pretty deserted. The beach is not nice here but down the road they are much sandier. The staff were accommodating and friendly. The rooms are very spacious with a nice view and there were several pools for swimming. Lots of small children with activities for them if you have a young family. The breakfast buffet was nice. The comfort in the room was hampered by the lack of air conditioning in the wee hours of the morning. Other than that it was quite good, spacious, a very large bed and a sofa. A nice patio with view. We spent our days exploring hiking to beaches around San Jose.

Perfect location, large rooms, good value for the money

The hotel is recommended. The rooms are large, clean and well-equipped (mini-refrigerator, sofa, and flat-screen TV). The breakfast buffet was (too!) great, and special breakfast service is given to guest who leave early before the buffet is ready. Excellent.
This visit took place in May and the room rate was probably lower than in the main summer season.

The hotel was fine, staff were helpful but a very quiet location. A car is a must, we kept driving to Mojacar for a bit more life during the day and a nicer beach (not so windy and stony). Thought there would be entertainment for the kids during the evenings but nothing. No shops to browse so kids came home with their spending money!

A gem - far from the madding crowd!

Well managed hotel - far from the usual tourist part of Spain. Superb buffet food, excellent drinks (San Miguel on tap with house wine around 10 euros a bottle).
Large swimming pool plus three smaller ones. Lots of sun beds. Plenty of space. Right by the sea. Comfortable, room.

Staff friendly and helpful. Not much going on around the hotel - so this is for lovers of the quiet life - and the sun!

Peaceful - but no entertainment

Nice hotel but a few year solder than when we last went and things are a little jaded. Little entertainment during the week. Old hus tv's - however they replaced with flat screen ones the day before we cam eback............

Nice hotel for a long stay

The surroundings are great and the hotel is very comfortable, with a wide variety of meals.

Unless your really into the all-inclusive style...

I stayed 2 nights at this hotel. It is far from any amnities,the water in the shower was connected the other way around not as indicated. And the hotel wasn't full, but they put me in between 2 families with young kids. Not the relaxing time I was looking for ! You'll be better of in San José !

Beach resort in the middle of no where

The Barcelo is a family oriented beach resort in a area of development with other similar properties. It is lovely but once you are there you are there. The beach is pebble and rocky. Great place to sit and do nothing at all.
