Smaller, boutique hotel in a great location

I really enjoyed this smaller boutique hotel just a few blocks away from Taksim Square and about 1 mile (or less) from the Bosphorous. It was located at the end of a street, so no traffic going by (which made it quiet). It was very close to many restaurants, shopping, banks, etc. It was clean and the front desk staff were very helpful.

Balcony rooms have a nice view. Steps away to Beyoğlu and restaurants in cihangir. The orange trees were blooming nearby filling the street with beautiful perfume. My favorite place in Istanbul.

The hotel was in a bad location. Mid-way up a mountain. I was deceived into thinking the hotel had a view over the lake because the advertisement showed a view. The room was small. I booked a room with two beds and got a room with a double bed. The 2nd night we were moved to an accessible room with 2 beds. The breakfast was great.

The property was hard to reach, especially by night. The taxis did not want to go there. We had to walk out the streets to get taxis. We had to pay extra to return to the hotel one night.

The hotel called several times for taxis for us, but each time, none was available. I regretted staying there.

The entire first floor was a demolition zone when I arrived: dust and pieces of dry wall all over the floor. Reception was temporarily on the second. My first room’s heat was broken. They were very nice about quickly moving me to another room. Unfortunately the whole place smelled strongly of overly perfumed cleaning supplies masking smoke.

The service of all staff I encountered was personal, respectful and effective. Location is amazing. Just a few minutes from Taksim square, tucked away in a small and dead quiet cul-de-sac. Breakfast starts early -- 7 a.m. and is in the newly-refurbished 6th floor dining room with sweeping views of the Bosphorus.

This hotel was not what I expected after reading the descriptions on hotel.com. When I got the hotel key, it was three single beds instead of the three twin beds I had booked. When I inquired about this, the hotel management informed me that there were no twin beds available. A single bed in a very small room.
I spent 15 nights there and had the same breakfast every day.
It may use a little work.
The restaurant on the 6th floor has a great view of the Bosphorus, but no one speaks English, and the only menu available online is in Turkish.
Overall, the personnel is kind, although the breakfast selection should be updated, and the restaurant on the sixth level should be improved.

The rooms were smaller than I expected from the pictures. Connecting rooms were convenient and safe. Be aware it is in the back streets as you can imagine for that area.
The view from the restaurant was amazing, I wish we had breakfast in the same restaurant, that would’ve been mesmerising.

Cihangir Hotel, Istanbul - the rooms are nicely appointed, and our room had a spectacular view of the Bosphorus as does the rooftop restaurant, the food and service at which are not good at all. But the amenities are nice, the bathroom is very functional, the linens are large and in good condition, there are choices of pillow density, and the room is well serviced. The hotel breakfast has a nice variety, but the quality is variable.
All in all a very nice hotel for the price,and walking distance (though largely uphill) to Taksim Square. There is a lot of garbage in the street on the way up, but once on the main street everything is fine.
However, know that wifi is spotty, and a royal pain, since you have to keep logging in using your passport number.
The view and the nice balcony were the best parts of this hotel room.

The hotel was comfortable, and the breakfast area was clean and bright, the food was good. If I were to visit Istanbul again, I would want to stay closer to the main tourist attractions, just for the convenience of being able to walk to sights rather than needing public transportation.

The property was conveniently located to Taksim Square with a 5 minute or less walk. Our 5th floor room, Room 507, with view of the view of Bosphorus was simply stunning. The room was very cozy and quite as it's backed up against a neighborhood vs the noise of Taksim Square.
Expect prayer 5 times a day and the balcony sliding glass door does a pretty good job of soundproofing if you're not observing. Housekeeping did a great job, front desk staff were always helpful and attentive when coming/going all hours of the day/night. We had excursions away from the city, but kept our room and the hotel was very helpful with calling transportation (yellow cabs) to get us there. It took about an 8 minute walk to get to the Metro Blue Line, which is at the bottom of a very step walk, but still more convenient than doing transfers at Taksim Metro. The property was renovated in 2013 and is maintaining as they put good finishes and fixtures in place. The breakfast has a diverse spread of quality meats, cheese, olives and fresh fruits as you'd expect from this culture. The staff kept the buffet well stocked and were attentive to your arrival and needs. Side note: budget your time for the new IST Airport Experience. It's a minimum of an hour to get to/from the airport. There are multiple levels of security flying international or domestic - so over budget and plane your journey's from there.

Clean hotel in gritty area near tourist areas

I had to change planes in Istanbul, and so decided to spend a few days and look around, with no other agenda. This hotel was clean and everything seemed in good condition. My room was very small, but it was comfortable and had everything I needed. There a few minor problems, but staff were responsive. The immediate neighborhood looks a bit gritty at first, but then so does much of the city. Some of the main tourist areas are in easy walking distance... provided that you don't mind hills, which are an issue in much of the city.

GETTING TO THE PROPERTY IS A BIT DIFFICULT AS ITS LOCATION IS SET BACK INTO AN ALLEY WAY WITH A STEEP INCLINE; YOU WILL SURVIVE IT THOUGH. THE DESK STAFF IS VERY ACCOMODATING, EVEN THOUGH THE LACK OF ENGLISH AND FARSI CAPABILITIES THAT ONE MIGHT THINK AT LEAST ONE OF THE STAFF THERE MIGHT BE EXPECTED TO HAVE. I HAVE STAYED THERE THREE TIMES AND FIND THAT THEY DO ALL OF THE \"BIG THINGS\" WELL AS FAR AS CLEANLINESS AND MAINTAINING THE PROPERTY. HOWEVER, THE LITTLE THINGS THAT MAKE A SMALL NUISANCE THAT COULD BE EASILY CORECTED SEEM TO BE A CONTINUING SOURCE OF GIVING THE HOTEL A LESS THAN TOP GRADE; FOR EXAMPLE THERE ARE NO WASH CLOTHS AND THEY WERE OUT OF THE GREAT HAND MITTS FOR THE SHOWER THAT HAVE BEEN AVAILABLE IN THE PAST TIMES I HAVE STAYED AND THAT ONE SEEMS TO ALWAYS HAVE TO ASK FOR TOILET PAPER BEFORE IT BECOMES A PROBLEM. THE LINENS, TOWELS AND SHEETS, ARE FIRST RATE AND I FOUND THE ROOM SERVICE LADY TO BE VERY SUPERIOR TO MY PRIOR STAYS. THE BREAKFAST IS TOP-NOTCH AND THERE IS A 3 HOUR WINDOW TO AVAIL OF IT. Cihangir Hotel is in a great location, just 10 minutes from Taksim with its own local character including an array of interesting cafes. In 10 minutes, down a flight of steps, you can be beside the Bosphorus. The area felt safe at all times if the day.
The rooms are clean, the air con efficient and the breakfast was a good spread. Staff helpful if slightly reserved.

My stay at this hotel was okay but not great. The room seem clean but the room did not have working ac. I was told that it was not AC season and they couldn’t do anything about it. Which meant we had to sleep with the windows open, and here the loud noises from the traffic and a barking dog who barked each time a car pass by. The staff is not friendly either, which is disappointing since it made me feel like I was bothering them with my questions. Definitely wouldn’t stay here again. Best to pay the extra money for a hotel that has AC and welcoming staff!!

It’s fine but I’d pay more for better service

Location was good and near taksim square and near a taxi rank/parking lot with an abundance of taxis, but hotel was average. Rooms were really warm and we had two connecting rooms that had this problem. It wasn’t a slum stay and we’ve stayed at worse but the staff weren’t the best. Turkey is known for their hospitality and the staff was under average in that sense. If we didn’t have the interaction we did with the staff I’d rate it 3.5 out of 5, but I’ll give it a 3. It was a standard hotel but nice and cheap. It was comfortable enough for our one week stay but considering how low prices are in turkey, we should have paid a little more for a bit better. If you’re easily pleased this place won’t bother you at all.

This hotel is so strange. Everything is inept. The staff don’t seem very interested in doing their jobs. Most don’t speak English. The rooms are small and nondescript. I paid extra for a top facing the sea, but the view was not great. The lights in the halls are on a timer and I had to walk in the dark almost to the elevator before the light came on. The elevator itself is very strange and dark. The breakfast was mediocre at best. I could go on. Nothing was horrible but nothing was good except the bed. The bed was comfortable.

The rooms are surprisingly small, but comfortable and tidy. The shower turned too hot and too cold by itself all the time and it was a little hard to figure out.
You should note that the hotel is about 8 minutes a walk away from Taksim but it's a steep road, be prepared for a few minutes of hiking every morning.

Extremely friendly/helpful and perfect location

The staff were extremely helpful and welcoming. While centrally located in the Taksim neighborhood, it is tucked away in a quiet corner that still affords the option of a Bosphorous view. Breakfast was also very good. Much nicer atmosphere than the larger hotels. The only things that could have been improved in my case were some initial difficulties getting internet access; here too the staff helped right away and the problem was solved. Also, for those coming after a long trip, the do-not-disturb policy by cleaning staff in the mornings should be better enforced.

The hotel is an easy walk from not only quiet and cozy neighborhood shops and restaurants, but major shopping/night life areas and public transportation options through Taksim Square. The room was clean and serviced well. My only gripe about it was that though the shower was nice, its craftsmanship had it leaking into the rest of the bathroom when used. Breakfast was a satisfying mix of meats, cheeses, eggs, pastries and fruit: nothing special but it set a good foundation for the day. My stay was in the off season, so while the tiny and somewhat slow elevators were not a huge issue for me, I imagine that they could be annoying during a busier period. First time visitors beware, elevation severely drops to the hotel's east and south, so make sure you approach accordingly if by foot with heavy bags!
