Very rude at the front desk. Not information provided during my stay. First time that I have to bring the towels to the front desk to check them out from the room. Property looks old . Very low maintenance. Sink running during all my stay. Definitely I won’t return to this place .

Extremely Poor Check-In Experience and Unacceptable Customer Service

Our check-in experience was extremely frustrating and unprofessional. Ricardo Andre at the front desk took over three hours to check in me and my two children. Guests were instructed to sit and wait for their names to be called, yet no names were ever called. Instead, Ricardo assisted whoever approached the desk first, which led to confusion and visible frustration among multiple guests.

Throughout this extended wait, no one offered water or any basic courtesy, which reflects very poor customer service.

The most serious issue occurred when I was informed that my 12- and 15-year-old children were not considered children by the resort, despite Expedia requesting their ages during booking and charging me the children’s rate. At check-in, I was told I owed an additional $800 in order to access our room. After a long flight and already being at the resort with two minors, I had no realistic option to leave.

When I explained that this discrepancy needed to be addressed with Expedia, I was told it was my problem. I asked to speak with a manager, but Ricardo refused to engage, would not make eye contact, and stated, “Pay or go home.”

The food was mediocre, there was no Wi-Fi in the rooms, and the only available Wi-Fi in the lobby was overcrowded and unreliable. Overall, this stay was stressful and disappointing.

I have never experienced such a bad service in an all inclusive resort. We have 3 people in a room, but they only gave us 2 towels. We called the front desk 4 times for an extra towel. Each time they would tell us someone would bring it, but no one ever shows up. The front and restaurant staff are definitely not trained. Aside from that, the app that they make us use to book restaurant reservation is a joke. It doesn't work half the time. The app kept showing no availability for the seafood restaurant. It turns out that you need to be by the front desk at 7:30am to make reservation for it. No one ever told us until we found out from one of the waiters the day prior to departure. We booked a reservation at the Italian restaurant, but when we got to the restaurant they didn't have our name. We tried logging into the app which did not work. The front desk couldn't help us either. It was very stressful having to deal with their staff. Needless to say, we will not go back to this hotel or any other Decameron locations.

My family enjoyed the food, the service, recreation and the beach.
Even though the road to get to the hotel wasn’t the best, the transportation service was comfortable.
At the hotel the internet access was really poor and the resort’s buildings required some maintenance.
Overall it was a good experience.

The service is horrendous. We requested side by side rooms and rooms were not available for two days. Offered no credit or refund for the inconvenience. Staff are not friendly and customer service is poor. Pool was shut down twice during our stay and no help at the bars. Long line ups for drinks and at times didn’t have beer or ingredients for mojitos.

The property is a maravilla but they have to improves a.lot is my first time in my own Country but in tourism they are so far ...
Chek in too much time compare with others resorts people recommend Decameron resorts the property is wonderfull the rooms excellent the food very good no complain about it but the procedure with the staff has to change is not the workers cause they always try to help we think is the administration.
Any way we pass and excellent time cause the place is beatifull nothing is perfect over all when you compare Colombia with resorts in Mexico Aruba even Dominic Republic those places you get there chek in take a least 15 to 30 min maximum Decameron 1 hour that means something is wrong.

Our main issue was that our room had bedbugs. They moved us after some insistence, but that was it. No apologies or follow up. The front desk staff doesn't seem to care ar all. We even had the \"plus\" upgrade which made no difference. The pools and beach are lovely. Restaurant staff so friendly and great. Food is very average. Lifeguards are on a massive power trip and make things pretty unpleasant as they are constantly blowing the whistle for one reason or another. They will not let you even put your feet in the ocean after 6 pm, which seems completely crazy. Lots of iguanas and racoons, racoons come into the restaurant which seems really gross and dirty.

This place is 90’s timeshare! I wasn’t thrilled with the food, drinks, and overall the entire hotel. Food is horrible, the two “special places” the Asian and Italian you need to be up by 7am to make a reservation. We opted for the Asian. Sushi horrible, pre wrapped, the fish ok and the rice too. This is not a 3 star hotel. I will never book another vacation there. Check in a nightmare, transportation to airport was another nightmare. This is only for nationals that are used to crowded places and it wasn’t cheap! It was truly a huge disappointment.

El check in es terriblemente largo (2 horas esperando) solo tienen 2 personas en eso y muchos viajeros. Querían cobrarme a mí nena de dos años, cuando la política en expedía dice que se cobran a partir de 3 años, sin embargo la persona de check in no lo sabía y tardo mucho averiguando. El lugar es un paraíso, lástima que el servicio al cliente no es el mejor, desde meseros, recepción, hasta el mismo doctor que no apoya en emergencias. Sin embargo la belleza del lugar estando ya dentro puede llegar a cubrir estos temas, porque la playa es hermosa, las instalaciones, la fauna y estar ahí es bello.

Great service. Staff very helpful, friendly and professional. Food is awesome, delicious. Entertainment options are great. Beaches are fantastic.
Only issues is the humidity in some areas of the building, access to apartments have no ramps for people with walking problems, and staff should stop people in the restaurant to feed the native mapaches.
Overall, we enjoyed the stay.

This is an excellent peninsula/island resort that is extremely beautiful. The people are outstandingly cordial and go the extra mile. If you want a nice beautiful vacation in Colombia, i highly recommend. The trip from Cartegena to Baru is a little rough once you croos the bridge to Baru, and the internet can be spotty at times. But that is expected of a remote resort as such. But once you are there, i promise you will love it.

The place is beautiful, nice private beach area, calm water. Lots of wild life, staff is great and willing to help. It was mostly local tourism the days we were there. The place is very expansive, lots of walking and no elevators, wouldn't work for older people or parents with small children on strollers. Cartagena traffic is crazy, don't even think about renting a car. The last 6 km are on a dirt road which turns really bad when it rains. The entertainment team is very busy, lots of activities.

My travel to this hotel was in April 2023. Standard room was ok until raccoon’s got into the air duct above our room and started to mate at 5am. The reception area was nice enough to switch our room but given that we were only there for 2 nights, one night was very uncomfortable.
The food is below poor average. The reviews I read prior to booking are exactly correct. But I decided to give them a chance. I have stayed in all inclusive resorts before but this does not stand a chance. Also note, The beach area is rocky and small. Wouldn’t recommend. Pay extra and stay at Sofitel on the opposite side which I also stayed in March 2023. You will love it. Now, they really know cuisine and impeccable service!

They try…and we made it fun…for us since we were there…but would not go back or recommend! Rough to get to from Cartagena….thugs on road banging your car so you give them money. Horrendous two mile dirt, muddy, bumpy road from main road to get to resort. Staff tried, nice and clean but you have to rush down to beach by 7am to save one of the limited beach chairs.

Please DO NOT STAY at this property. Lunch Buffet was the worst I've ever had. It literally had cold food and not enough options to eat from, their juices were water down or not even fresh. Drinks at the bar sucks and are served in Paper Cups...couldn't believe it. All the cocktails were bad and only had 2 beer options. We couldn't get dinner reservations via online so had to speak with a supervisor who was kind enough to help. We arrived at 1 pm but weren't allowed to check in till 3 pm and made us pay extra to have lunch..what a rip off. There are many other properties in the area but this all inclusive isn't worth your money

Terrible vacations hungry all the time
The restaurant’s have a specific time to you make reservations everything is far and lot stairs.
No cóctels at the pool so if you want it,you have to walk around block and half to get it by the beach or at the lobby
The food simply like rice, chicken, salads, pastas and one time fish and coconut rice
But if you want to eat at the seafood restaurant you have to get up at 7am and make reservations but by 7:15 am is no more available.
At the beach if you hungry you have wait until they open the restaurant or walk again 2 blocks to get a hamburger, hotdogs, soup
I was waiting for the ceviche, cocadas, mangos that you get at the beach
I won’t recommend this place because is NOT ALL INCLUSIVE

This facility is not all inclusive, my husband and I went for are anniversary and It was horrible.. the have only one place for drinks that is in the main lobby only.. the rest they only offer juices and beers only and you have to get it no waitress around. We have been in a other all inclusive resort like in (Cancun, Dominican Republic, Jamaica , ext and this are Considered all inclusive resort not like this one that you have to get your on stuff and the cost is even more than the usual resorts we are very disappointed about this experience thank God that we just stay two days in this resort we really really have a bad taste about this not interested no more to come to any of the all-inclusive the Camron resorts, and another thing they try to sell you the upgrade. They bothering you since the day you get into the resort until the end of your state it is horrible day to get there it’s very messy it’s just not a good five it’s not all inclusive it’s a lie

Decameron Baru is a beautiful place to stay with family. It’s very family friendly with plenty of activities, entertainment and multiple food options. The night shows are amazing and the service is great! I will totally recommend if you are planning to go to a secluded beach and find everything in one place!

The servers should be wearing gloves while preparing the food. The room should all have refrigerators, their own ironing board and iron. Food should be served at all times there was a gap in between 5 and 6:30pm. No ice machines and the drinks were not cold enough. The pools are open to late. The bar should be located by the pool not outside of the pool. They should be baristers by the beach asking the guest what they want to drink as well as the pool area.

Had to be put in two different rooms because A/C was not working. Each room had several problems. Things like holes in drapes from being eaten by bugs. Everything is from the 70s. Also many stairs all over the property, not one elevator even to you rooms. Couldnt eat the food after three days. They physically will not let you off the property unless management gives the guards approval 1st. Still using old mechanical key system. Location is nice but the property is dilapidated and they have annoying time share salesman all over the property. I finally just left and got my own hotel in Cartagena and let them keep the money for my last night.

Fabulous Resort, Except for Some of the Food

The grounds and facilities are nothing short of fabulous. And the staff--everyone who we came in contact with--is extremely helpful and solicitous. So on the whole, this is an amazing, wonderful place. Then there is the food. They offer three dinner restaurants which require reservations (you have to go in person at 8 AM to get one for that evening), and the two we ate in were very, very good. There is also an open buffet restaurant for which you need no dinner reservation (where lunch and breakfast are also served). Unfortunately, the food at the open buffet restaurant we found seriously wanting. It was often difficult to find anything at all that we wanted to eat for lunch or dinner, despite an amazingly broad array of choices. The quality was the problem, and it was troubling to us. This was really the only deficiency at this otherwise wonderful resort. There are a number of bars serving an amazing array of alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks at all hours. The liquor is an unrecognizable, generic brand in virtually every case, and the bartending (of course) is quick and indifferent, but you should be able to find something that appeals.

The beach is beautiful but I did not have a pleasant experience. They charge additional Internet fees at very high prices. The room and bathroom cleaning is very bad. Be prepared to deal with a very uncomfortable troop of salesmen stalking guests everywhere in the facilities trying to sell Decameron annual packages.

Great location, great resort but not perfect.

The hotel itself is amazing, the pools and beach are some of the nicest we have ever seen. It was weird being the only native English speakers there and even though the staff tried to be helpful they sometimes came short. Being the only English people there it was easy for them to either avoid trying to talk to us or when we gave our first review to find us and try and make everything better by giving us free champagne and a fruit plate. The systems in place for this hotel are also very weird, for instance when you are reserving your dinner you first get a number when you go to the desk and then have to wait for your number to be called before reserving, surely the more efficient way would be to take your reservation when you first get to the desk on a first come first served basis. The next weird thing was that for an all inclusive resort there was no free WiFi anywhere and even the safe in the room had a fee, clearly paying over $1600 CAD for 3 nights here was not enough for these simple amenities. All that being said we enjoyed our time here the food was good (especially at the Asian restaurant) and the resort was beautiful even our room was super nice but with some added amenities this place could have been perfect.

If wanting to go to the beach in Cartagena this is the place but.... Hotel is way overpriced. Value is super low for the price. In the middle of nowhere and super rough roads to get to the hotel. Food is very average. Rooms were decent. Beach was very nice for Cartagena. Not much stuff and super slow. I have stayed at many all inclusive and this one is double the price it should be for the value they bring. If you are wanting to go to the beach in Cartagena this is the place because all other beaches are not nice but this hotel is simply overpriced for the service and quality.

What a terrible hotel, my first bad moment was when I did the check inn, I had to wait for an hour, I been I more than 60 countries and I been in many many hotel around the world and never had to wait that long to have my room, second the food was awful, no option for vegetarians. Please never stay there, for the price you can stay in a nice boutique hotel in old city of Cartagena or even in a 5 Star hotel and have nice foods in restaurants.

Disappointing end to a great trip

Decameron Baru was the last destination of a two week trip along the Carribean coast and we planned it to be the restful portion of vacation. It was stressful from before we even arrived. We were unable to get responses to our many messages sent in advance to secure transportation from Cartagena and we even went to the Decameron Boca Grande with no success. Although Spanish is a second language, we still have enough Spanish that this shouldn't have been so hard. When we checked in, we weren't shown to our room or even given a map, so we walked the entire perimeter of the property before we found our room. We weren't given beach towels either and when we asked about them, they didn't believe us!
The food was disappointing, but I'm never impressed by resort food, so I wasn't expecting great food. What surprised me was that I couldn't find anything to eat AT ALL in the afternoons. Not as much as a bowl of peanuts at 5pm. It was the first resort I've been to that didn't have food and drinks available 24 hours or even a wet bar in our room. We tried to bring a snack back to our room, knowing we would be hungry before our 7:30 dinner, but were told it's not allowed. My daughter is vegetarian and I eat dairy-free and that was not easy at this location. Very few of the buffet items were marked with ingredients so there was a lot of fruit for dinner, to be safe. Overall, the facility is clean and the beach is nice, but I won't go back and wouldn't recommend it to my friends.

Beautiful place...but that is about it!

If you are staying less than 5 days, they do not care about you. DO NOT COME HERE FOR A WEEKEND get away.
My family of 4 went for a weekend get away of 2 nights before returning to home from 2 week vacation in Colombia.

You are not allowed to dine in the their restaurants on your 1st night there, NO MATTER WHAT. So you pay for a night but cant enjoy what they offer on the 1st night. You HAVE to eat at their buffet...which is just OK & super repetitive. I was there 2 nights & it was the same food choices.

You have to reserve a dinner table for their restaurants at 8AM of that day, so there goes relaxing or sleeping in on your vacation. If you get there at 8:30 AM the line is long & you will miss out, as we did. I asked the Manager why they don't have enough space for their guests & he said there is always room if you stay here 5 days. He said eventually you will get to get a spot but because I was only there 2 nights it doesn't give them time to fit us in. I already told him we robbed of our 1 nights dine at their restaurants & now the 2nd as well. He said if I came back at 3PM to the lobby he would check if any one had cancelled. Again...i would have to walk all the way to reception desk & waste my vacation time to check with him. They do not understand guest services here or accommodate to anyone. Instead of the manager checking in on me or their staff following up. Leaving me a message or a note...i gave to track him down.

I WOULD NEVER GO BACK

GOOD: The beach, the pools, the gardens, the fresh salads and fruits and the rooms.
BAD: Cheap food, fruit juice sweetened with sugar or watered down, no butter, desserts I would not give to my enemy, each day they ran out of chocolate and vanilla ice cream for the kids, so they would not have to give so much ice cream away (totally cheap owners), weak coffee even though we were in Colombia, horrible wine, not even a standard bar with quality liquors, rip off internet service, overworked staff who are primarily black, one towel per person and must exchange it at only one location, you are treated like cattle, dinner reservations in person between 7:30AM to 9AM, charge for the safety box in the room, totally outrageous charges for laundry service, when I made the reservation I asked for an early check in but they didn't bother to respond, we arrived at 12:30PM and had to pay a high price to have lunch even though we were leaving before breakfast on checkout day, the room was not ready at the 3:00PM check in time and they said they could have it ready anytime AFTER 3:00PM, they insisted I provide documentation of my paid reservation even though they had it and acknowledged having it and more.

Go if you are looking for quantity, not quality

The hotel infrastrucre is amazing, as well as its location and staff. However food and drinks quality could be signifcantly better. The specialty restaurants, for which you have to be at the front desk at 7am to get a number to come back at 8am to make a reservation, are not worth the pain of dealing with the reservation process: the Asian restaurant played arab music, sushi seemed old and only offered rolls, no sashimis or niguiris. Internet service is expensive 15 dollars per 12 hours. Timeshare sales ececutives are wating for you every morning at the buffet to harass you over their amazing vacation program, they will not stop until you get oretty upset.
I enjoyed my stay but felt that 350 per night was overpriced for the quality of food and drinks and being targeted by salespeople everyday.

Too expensive, too complicated, to many stairs. You have walk a lot for everything. You have to get your drink and by the time u get where u sitting is hot. I did not like it, beautiful view, but they have to improve their way of making the customer happy and make arrangements to make customers relax and not walk a lot.

Food is very good at a la carte reataurant but you need to get reservation at 8 am, rooms are nice but old. Marine equipment very nice, i use on 4 person catamaran in internal lagoon, people at beah very friendly

Terrible Hotel - DO NOT GO!

My husband and I were scheduled to stay at the Decameron Baru for two nights. We left early and wasted a single nights stay because the \"resort\" was so awful.

The check in process was very unorganized. You had to wait in one line to get a number, then wait in another line to get your all inclusive badge, then wait in another line to get your room keys. It took about an hour long to do so. The rooms were dirty and uncomfortable and when we checked in our room had no power. We were told we could not have dinner in the restaurant because we didn't have a reservation. In order to make a reservation you had to be in the lobby at 8:00am to wait in line to get a number. You then had to wait again for your number to be called to then make the reservation. Ridiculous, it was like a stationary cruise ship. When we got to the beach it was smaller than pictured. They did a very good job of photoshopping the photographs for their website as the beach and water look NOTHING like what is pictured. When we go to the buffet dinner it was an Italian theme. Why on earth would I want to eat Italian food when we are in Colombia? The food was not edible. It was disgusting and worse than cafeteria grade. The pools also do not stay open past 8:00pm. How is that possible for an all inclusive resort?

Needless to stay we stayed the one night and checked out early the next morning. I would NEVER recommend staying at this hotel. It takes an hour to get to and that is the only thing there. It was gross

Worst resort I have been in!

The hotel is outdated. Room was dirty. There is no fridge available. The safe deposit box and internet are extra. The food at the buffet is very bland!!. Tables are dirty. The bottles of water left in the room were warm. The \"all inclusive drinks\" were very poor quality and were warm as well. Also, there were sales people all over the resort trying to sell you vacation packages. Very annoying!!!

We chose this hotel because we wanted to visit Baru and I think it's the only hotel in the area. We enjoyed the buffets and warm water with pretty fish. They also have huge beautiful infinity pools and quite a few bars, easily accesible at any point in the day. All inclusive makes it convenient. I will say it is quite a ride from airport and it isn't the cleanest. Cleanliness factor is OK, but definitely room was not meticulous (dirty table) and the room needed some touch ups (like rusted toilet at the bottom, chipped paint in places, some mold in the shower). Overall cleanliness wasn't a \"deal breaker\" but in honesty needs a little attention. The grounds outside the room were very well taken care of - trimmed landscaping, clean main area, clean pools etc. Also they have huge iguanas around the property, really enjoyed that.

Spectacular location, enormous facility, very friendly staff, very clean and modern rooms with scenic ocean view. Draw backs, had to pay for WIFI, is this to keep people off their cell phones or to make a few dollars? Room had no hot water. Number one turn off, which I found was the same in San Andres aquarium hotel, you must wake at 8:00 am, wait in line, to make a reservation for dinner at one of the fine restaurants they have. Otherwise you eat at the mediocre buffet. Why not have more sittings available?

Beautiful Hotel and gorgeous waters

This hotel is beautiful, the grounds are constantly being taken care of and the service was very friendly. Check in was prompt and the staff was courteous when we arrived. It is about a 1 1/2 hour drive from Cartagena de Indias to the Island of Baru, mostly through paved roads. The waters in Baru are spectacular, clear blue seas and white sand, plenty of chairs and huts were available. Yes, the beach and pool closes at 6 p.m. The only thing I would say that is lacking is the food, even at the \"reservation only\" restaurants, the food is average at best. The drinks are served in small glasses and are a bit watered down, your best bet is the beer. I will definitely be back to this resort.

Nice beach and clean ocean waters

Hotel is a large resort that moves people in and out. Over priced..charging for everything. 5 USD hour for wireless that you can use only in the lobby. 3 USD a day for a room safe key. So many people they don't care about the small details. Drinks are generic name brand and served in the cheapest plastic cup they can buy. Hotels deserts at dinner time are tasteless like the fruits. 1 hour and 20 minutes from airport on a bus to get there. Not close to anything. Hotel caters to Argentinians...owner is one. Simple rooms...2 adults 1 3 year old cost was 1200 USD for 2 days....stayed at the best hotel in Colombia...Santa Clara Hotel in Cartagena for cheaper with 5 star meals everynight. You decide....I love the beach area and the facilities of the hotel but that is it.

No customer focus

The facilities at this hotel are very nice. With that being said the resort does not focus on the customer. We arrived at breakfast at 10:20 AM (the breakfast closed at 10:30 AM) and we could not even get a cup of coffee. The pools close promptly at 5:45 PM with a whistle blow and a security guard forcing people out of the pool. The water was shut off in the lobby at 1:00 AM. The toilets did not flush and you couldn’t even wash your hands. To add to that we got back to our room and the water in our room was shut off. Over all I would not visit this resort again.

Don't arrive early!

We hired a taxi to drive us 1 1/2 hours from Cartagena to the hotel,only to be kept waiting at the gate for 20 min. because we arrived before the 3 pm check-in and they couldn't find our name!
After speaking with someone at the desk and were told that we could come back at 3 or pay another $20 each to use the facilities until check-in, I insisted on being let up to the hotel to speak with some in person and not stay at the gate in the HEAT.
NOT a good start !
