Adorable hotel tucked inside a medieval village. The rooms are well-appointed and thoughtfully updated (AC and an elevator), while still keeping that fairytale charm of the town. The restaurant was outstanding with fantastic Scandinavian French dishes. Service, however, could be more attentive to match the high level of the food. Overall, a magical spot worth the stay.

We had a wonderful stay and the views were just awesome and the splurge for dinner at the restaurant was worth it. Dinner was perfect as well as the views. The staff were great & very helpful. Do be mindful of parking disclosure from the hotel. You do need to be in shape for doing a lot of walking which is to be expected with staying in a 13th century medieval village.

Tough to get to. Up in the hills with very narrow streets so it’s hard for cars to get there. First time we arrived the uber dropped us off in the wrong area so we had to lug our luggage through cobble stone streets to the hotel entrance. Once we got to the hotel they gave us a different address to use for drop offs. The area around the hotel is confusing as well. Very narrow cobble stone streets and hills. Not the best for someone with bad knees. Room was nice and large. Very comfortable. Location is about 15-20mins from Nice. Difficult for some cars to get there as the streets are extremely narrow.

The views are stunning. My room was magnificent. There were good restaurants nearby.
My complaint is that there are accessibility issues. I did know this I advance but I was expecting a walk across a plaza not a difficult, steep and poorly signed maze of stairs and allies. It gets worse. The reception AND restaurant are down a steep and winding staircase. There were also steps into my room. I'm not going to change my recommendation or rating because the hotel is wonderful and a unique experience but feel compelled to warn other travelers that this might not be the hotel for them. The staff could have been more helpful. Breakfast and room service were modest but good. Dinner was exceptional.

Amazing place!

So this place is like a fairytale. Beautiful and ancient. The beds are dreamy and we slept so well. Just feels like you are immersed in the history and culture with absolutely stunning views.
Keep in mind when booking that it’s a lot of stairs and walking and you can’t drive to it. You must park a little ways away… if that doesn’t bother you, you’ll love this place.
Also what did it for us…. The staff were incredible. Absolutely lovely and friendly do anything to make your stay enjoyable, every single one of them.

I Absolutely loved this hotel! Came here with a friend and we had the sweetest time. parking was convenient down in the village with Jean-Paul, and Samuel picked us up safely when checking in and out. they gave us a free upgrade when the hot water didn't come on quickly in our room and we were very taken care of. The chateau is beautiful! request the cossettini room ** :)

The property is not accessible by car. It is an old castle on top of a hill with a very narrow street that literally only a smart car/smallest Fiat can navigate. Any other car will get stuck (and have to get towed) or back up 200 meters with virtually no clearance on either side. Instead, you have to park in a cemetery parking lot and walk 15-20min up a very steep path (with luggage!) or ask the hotel to send a smart car to pick you up (very time consuming).

This is not highlighted in the hotel summary, there are no warning signs at the beginning of the narrow “street” leading to the hotel and there is no established valet service.

We booked the hotel because it is less than 15 minutes from the Nice airport. We indicated in the booking that we would be arriving at 11pm and spoke with hotel reception twice that day to keep them updated and make sure someone would be there for check-in.

Incredibly, no one told us about the accessibility issue. Therefore, we arrived late and tired only to drive our car down the long, narrow “street” to the point where we could drive no more and almost got stuck. We had to call the hotel and fortunately the night manager was able to help direct us while backing up 200 meters with virtually no clearance on either side. We then parked our car in the cemetery lot and he drove us to the hotel.

We were astonished to hear from him and morning reception that this happens regularly. There were also no towels in our bathroom and room smelled of smoke

Amazing and helpful staff. Good restaurant on site and Michelin level food available (if you can get a reservation) right around the corner at Fleur de Sel. Other reviews referenced the location as not being easily accessible. In fact, not all cars can make it easily to the property (especially vans), but the staff will come help with bags. All this requires is communication. Would stay here again and will recommend to friends and family.

I must say, normally I don’t write reviews, but I had such a lovely time that I think it’s worth writing a review. I had a long train ride from Paris to Nice, arrived late and the staff was very nice. Picked me up from the parking structure and welcomed me into the amazing hotel. The biggest surprise was the quality of the food, unexpected treat. The service at the restaurant is literally 5 star quality. The best food I had in France (I went to the Eiffel Tower restaurant, and it doesn’t compare). The restaurant in this hotel is beyond what you’d expect. Seriously, try it out. Thanks, I had a lovely stay.

Just wonderful. Tucked away, quaint, and magical. We were lucky enough to be there on a Sunday dedicated to artisans, whose shops were all open. We bought so many stunning pieces. This is a walled city... The address for cab drop off took us to construction blocking the way... The walk in with suitcases on cobblestone straight downhill was tough. They said they upgraded us, but we paid the top dollar, and the room was on the top, but not to much of the view. They called a cab to pick us up to go to airport, which cost 38e to get there was 70e to leave... It just felt like we were being taken advantage of... The town is cool, but it is hard to get around with strollers or any walking issues...

Loved staying in this historic hotel. Its really an experience that I don't think Ive seen before. You are literally in a castle, in a town that's very old. The property is big and clean and the staff work really hard. I would encourage everyone to stay for the view and the church clocks that go off by the hour. It's extremely peaceful. Note: Be sure to figure out parking with the hotel and do NOT try to drive to the hotels front door. The roads are narrow and meant for horse and buggys.

While this is a 4-star property, the service at this place was 5-star Quite simply outstanding. Each and every person we interacted with was incredibly helpful, warm, knowledgable and authentic - Thibeau, Nicolas, Clement, Moses, and Sam (who should be a standup comic) who was our waiter for our exceptional dinner at their restaurant - and other people whose names I'm forgetting - made our visit an unforgettable experience. In the end no matter how beautiful a property is, it's the interactions with these outstanding humans that made our trip. Hotel and food quite nice. Quite frankly the parking is a mess especially for older folks needing a cane. Best for them to chose another property. Guest room was very clean but without a bath tub which my wife requires. We had visited the property some years ago when operated as a Relais et Chateau and enjoyed the now less stuffy current atmosphere of the staff and management.

The hotel is actually multiple properties scattered around the old town, so our room was a good walk uphill near the town square. The staff did however carry the bags. Our room was very small and had a view of a building site. There was nowhere to sit outside and relax even in the main hotel building. They are planning to build a pool which will be a great facility for them.
The staff are very nice and helpful and the old town is so charming and the square at the top of the town has 4 restaurants and 2 boules pitches, so it was lovely having a meal there and watching the locals play boules.
There is a free shuttle into the main town every10 minutes or so which was very convenient.
I wouldn’t recommend this hotel however to anyone with walking difficulties.

What looks like a charming property in photographs turns out to be a property in great need for updating. Our room smelled of mustiness and mildew, there was no lighting in our living room, the bed was dreadfully old and uncomfortable, and the entire hotel locks down at 11:30 pm with no staff on site. After learning all of this we left without staying. Definitely not worthy of a 4 star rating. And did I mention the hike up a steep hill to get to the property? Definitely not for the physically impaired. Can’t recommend.

France is a beautiful country with a lot to offer however the country side is highly recommended over the city, especially Cagnes-sur-Mer. . Beautiful town to visit and highly recommend this hotel with very friendly and courteous people, amazing food and best of all, extremely relaxing. This is definitely the type of place you want to keep coming back to. The restaurant at the hotel is highly recommended during your stay as it provides high class, classic French cuisine to be enjoyed with a local bottle of wine. Drive out to St. Paul de Vence for a nice walk in the morning to enjoy some breakfast before taking a beautiful drive down the French Riviera to visit the town of EZE on the way to Monaco.

We ended up there by accident, the wrong hotel was booked?? the manager knew it was a mistake.
We asked if the manager would refund us so we could go to the hotel we wanted, he refused said he was fully booked, you would have thought he was making money being full up, quite mean of him, no care.
so we had to stay there, it did not have the fertility we needed! waste of our holiday.
One good thing he did upgrade us from his fully booked hotel?

Chateau Le Cagnard is a beautiful gem, tucked away in the quiet village of Cagnes sur Mer. A lovely small luxury hotel, the old building has been converted with real respect and has all the nooks and crannies to explore that you would expect from such an old building.

Take their advice and park low down then phone them to pick you up - resist the temptation to drag your bags up the hill, it's super steep and best to arrive in their tiny car.

Cagnes sur mer and the hotel itself is not for those with limited mobility, there are steep rough paths and narrow windy stairs everywhere - you are staying in a medieval hill town to go with your eyes open.

Service is lovely, our room was a junior suite and the view and room itself to die for.

We ate dinner at the beautiful restaurant overlooking the escarpment, not cheap but super quality and worth the price. Reserve for dinner in advance of your stay and ask for the table at the edge of the balcony - you are here for the view as much as the gourmet food.

Perfect romantic weekend - don't aim to go anywhere else, just enjoy the luxury hotel and wandering round the hill town.

Haut de Cagnes is an amazing medieval village - truly beautiful, especially at night. The hotel was fantastic! Everyone was so nice, the breakfast was really good and we were lucky enough to get upgraded to a beautiful suite. There are lots of hills in Haut de Cagnes but if you don’t want to walk as much, there is a very convenient free town shuttle that takes you into Cagnes-sur-Mer where it is easy to hop on the train and go anywhere at very little cost. We loved the hotel and the village - stunning..:

My wife and I booked the hotel for our wedding anniversary. It is an old and quirky hotel and although we had an enjoyable stay, there were a number of irritations. The bedroom was large and airy, but there was no chest of drawers to enable us to put most of our clothes away, so we had to leave them in our suitcases; the skylight had no means of shutting out the light, the windows to the balcony had nothing to keep them open, (we were given 2 corks to jam them open, which didn't work!), and initially there was a problem with the internet connection.

One of the main reasons for booking the hotel was the reputation of the restaurant. Unfortunately we found the quality at dinner very average, especially given the prices which were easily the most expensive and worst quality we experienced during our stay in the area. The breakfast was ok, but the cost was considered to be excessive.for what was served.

We would not recommend the hotel either to stay or dine at.the hotel.

You Cannot Miss This Beautiful Chateau

This is a beautiful chateau in a living medieval village with schools and a square that houses excellent restaurants. It is more residential than touristy and a beautiful village to get lost in. The service provided by the hotel staff is par excellence. Every single one of them is super helpful and cheerful. The room is large and very well done. The views from the terrace - exquisite. It was an absolute pleasure to spend a couple days here. We parked very close to the hotel and were picked up and dropped back by the hotel staff. If you have a tiny car you could drive up. The hotel was very beautiful, in a medieval sort of way. If you want to feel like you are in a movie, this hotel is the ideal scene to get lost in. It was quite enchanting, secluded and very safe. The staff was absolutely lovely and catered to our needs.

Although the hotel is located on a very narrow street- which makes it extremely difficult for uber cars to pick up/drop off. The upside is that the hotel staff provides a free \"shuttle\" service. A staff member will drive you to a given location nearby. We figured this out on our second day. I do wish the staff would have mentioned this huge convenience factor upon arrival.

It's important to mention that the hotel basically closes around 11:30pm. One night we arrived back at 1AM, and all the lights were out around the hotel. However, the staff had given us a card with an emergency number to call, incase we arrive late. The \"super\" picked up immediately and directed us to a back entrance using our second key that we had been given. Once we figured this out, the experience was not so terrifying. The area around the hotel seems uninhabited, but very safe.

ROOM: Our room was very clean, however, very small and difficult to move around in. I was traveling with a friend and were constantly stepping aside to enable movement for the other. I need to mention, the bed was insanely comfortable, as if we were sleeping on a cloud. This made the room situation much more pleasing.

The hotel is at the top of a fortress village so to get to our hire car we needed a ride down and back each day. Yet the drivers are so quick and cheerful it was great. Also full of good recommendations. Highly recommended.

The hotel was gorgeous and the location was truly exceptional. Restaurant was great. We did however expect more from a 4.5 star luxury hotel with regards to service and follow up on issues we encountered.

1. Parking lots suggested in the welcome email were all full and when we called the front desk, wrong info was provided. We spent 1 hour looking for parking and explanation from front staff:” yes that can happen”

2. Our luggage got lost in the hotel for over 2 hours, only to be found in the elevator cause of miscommunication between staff...when asked for it the staff discussed in French what happened and gave us a different story...

3. No WiFi in the room on 3rd floor except in bathroom...someone was coming to check...nothing changed, no follow up...

4. Housekeeping entered the room while “do not disturb sign” was posted

5. Bottles of shampoo and lotion were half used.

All minor things however these should not occur at a 4 star Luxury Hotel. This was a solid 3 star hotel for us

Lovely little hotel in a beautiful and quiet area - just a five minute (uphill) walk to a lovely square with restaurants overlooking pretty scenery. The hotel was very rustic and unique and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend.

Could not fault the staff

We were in the area for a conference and hadn't done our homework properly as the hotel turned out a bit further than we expected.Given the fact that it is on the hill as well we were concerned about getting to and fro and on arrival made it known we might need to look for somewhere closer.Despite my initial grumpy demeanour, Melanie went out of her way to make sure that we felt at home and were not stranded- even though sometimes we didn't finish at the Polygone Riveria till after 10 pm.Stefan was amazing.Not only did he cheerfully take us to and fro but even helped our stranded friends get to the station.Room was very comfortable and the hotel itself beautiful.We will be back in the same hotel next year if conference is still in Cagnes sure Mer.

Another great stay at this amazing gem of a hotel. It was the perfect way to end a business trip with a little rest and relaxation. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating, and dinner in the restaurant is a real treat. I look am already looking forward to next time!

Charming inn

Overall it was a lovely place to stay. It is in the old historic medieval part of the city which is both charming and a little more effortful to go into town. But the staff was quite helpful and provides the attention needed in helping with vacation plans and does provide access to the train station. . The restaurant is excellent on the premise in every way. The trains and buses are excellent ways to explore nearby charming towns as welll. I would recommend this hotel
If you are interested in being in a small charming inn in a quiet intersting area close, but outside of Nice.

Disappointing, overrated and overpriced

Service was really poor. Room disappointingly very small and dark. No outside space unless you were going to dine in the dining room or book a suite therefore unable to enjoy the view which was one of the main reasons to visit! Overall not worth the money. Have responded to a feedback request from the hotel and they haven't even had the courtesy to reply.

The hotel is nice, located in Haute-Cagnes, excellent views. But its very difficult to drive right to the hotel (only small cars can), so u have to park your car down and walk. It was our mistake to come there with the baby and climb up several times a day.

Friendly staff,
Breakfast is not included in the rate and actually is not good.
Average house-keeping and no room service (the only variant is to order something from the restaurant dining menu when it's open)

Wonderful stay!

Very good staff and wonderful experience. I would highly recommend this hotel. And, if there is a negative, it is the fact that the roads leading to the hotel are very, very old and narrow. I had an economy compact rental and had to pull the mirrors in and still needed to back up multiple times to squeeze thru a narrow opening. However, there is an auto park facility nearby and the hotel will come and pick you up from there. That is what I would suggest...

Great hotel

My wife and I had a fabulous 4 night stay with you last week.

You have a wonderful hotel with great decorations, history and very helpful staff in a great location.

However our enjoyment was spoilt by the taxi service that you arranged for our departure to Nice Airport.

We were charged 50 Euros for a 9.4 km journey that took 15 minutes, the driver did not turn on the taxi meter.

By comparison we arrived in France 14 days earlier and took a taxi from Nice airport to Juan Les Pins, we payed 43euros for a 21km, 32 minutes drive and the price was shown on the taxi meter.

It would be helpful to have an explanation of the price difference.

If there is not a good explanation of this issue then It may be helpful to any future visitors to hear of our experience of this issue.
