The hotel can best described as adequate. The staff with whom we interacted were very nice. The room was clean but insufferably hot. The ac was useless. When I called reception they told me to open a window. This I did but as the room faces a major road very noisy. The breakfast was good.

Booked very last minute, warm welcome from reception. The room was immaculate, modern and clean. Bed was very comfortable, shower was great.
Had room service, slightly limited as a vegetarian but had a lovely pizza.

Overall a pleasant stay for a 2 night business trip. Bar staff were friendly and great at recommending drinks etc. Breakfast choice is minimal and more choice could be offered. Bed had a strange plastic protector under sheet, which made an awful scrunching sound when ever you moved and made the bed very hot.
10 minute drive from the old town meant it was easy to explore in the evenings.

+ Very nice staff. Range of facilities (sauna, pool, etc). Great gym. Breakfast.
- There were issues with the water supply, and one morning and one night there was no water. No iron board and kettle in rooms, no body lotion or conditioner.

Hotel is fine if you want a place to stay while visiting the city. Staff was friendly and helpful at suggesting places to visit. However, the hotel is located in one side of a roundabout which makes difficult to get in if you don't know the city or that's the first time you're there. Lack of signaling to hotel and the absence of a number for the hotel on its address makes it more difficult. We were wandering around for about 30 minutes trying to access this property from the roundabout.
Otherwise, the hotel is a good and nice place to stay and enjoy Guimaraes.
Ah, at least in our room, there was no way to control the temperature of the air conditioning.... it was so hot that we had to open the windows at night.

Good choice, especially if touring

This hotel was well maintained and clean, and the family room we had was large and spacious with a good view over the city. The bed was large if a little hard, and the sofa bed was fine for a child. Breakfast was good, with a solid range of choices. The walk to the city centre is about 10 minutes downhill, not too bad uphill to walk back. Free parking too with quick route to the motorway if touring.

Guests can use the swimming pool but be warned...they will charge you 4.50Euro for a swim cap and 1Euro for a towel. Considering not all guests will use the pool, these caps and additional towels should be free for guests.
The food is okay but the service takes ages and the overall hotel is chilly.
Water in the mini bar is 2Euros for a small bottle but head on down to the gym for a large bottle for 1.50Euros. For a 4 star hotel they lack any form of customer focus or effort.
No tea / coffee in room and the safe missing an actual lock.

Don't let the 1970 exterior of this excellent hotel put you off - inside they have spent some serious money on upgrading the buiding. Comfortable beds, walk in showers, bidet, up to date sanitaryware, smart carpets. Breakfast buffet caters for most tastes. Free parking and WiFi. Friendly staff. Plus a very good Spa centre with indoor pool, steam room, sauna (separte male / femail facilities). Restaurant was high quality, and reasonable cost for a hotel. Great value for money, and a location 10 min walk away from the ancient city centre of Guimaeres. Recommended.

This is an awesome hotel and in a good area. You take about a 10 minute walk to the city centre. You can take about a 10 minute walk to a good shopping mall and good food court. I have stayed at this hotel many times and in the past have stayed in the older rooms. They arenºt near as nice as the new room I stayed in this time. The staff are very helpful. There is nothing lacking in this hotel.

Christmas with the family in Guimaraes

We have stayed at this hotel on several occasions. They appear to be in the middle of updating the hotel. Some rooms are renovated and really nice. We had two rooms in the new section and two in the old. My only complaint is that they need new mattresses in the old section and I believe they are probably working on that as they renovate.

We are a couple with an infant. We arrived late and they had the room ready for us with the crib and everything (something that doesn't always happen even in high-end hotels). The staff is really nice. Some of the facilities are a little bit old but everything was clean and functional. Our room had air conditioning... not easy to find in Guimaraes.
I will recommend this hotel.

Nice hotel 15 minute walk to historic area

Great hotel with a good restaurant, a nice spa (don't forget your flip flops and hair cap or you will have to pay for them) and only a 15 minute walk to the historic downtown area. Try the Restaurante Historico in the old part of the city.

Nice hotel, good location

This was a nice hotel, kind of old pool and hot tub. Gym was good. Staff was nice. Short walk to centre, up hill on the way back. Not that bad though. Our only problem was that I booked a double and when we got there they gave us a twin. When we complained the only double they had was on the smoking floor. We were forced to stay in that one or keep the twin. I didnºt appreciate that but the room didnºt smell bad.

Hotel de Guimaraes is a modern 4 star hotel with pleasant staff, big rooms and good views out over the town. They do a good breakfast with plenty of choice, and have mastered the art of stopping the scarmbled eggs from drying out.

Hotel was excellent but there is a lacking of personnel. Noone to help with luggage and noone who knows the local information like train and bus routes and schedules. noone explans the hotel services like pool and health club which once I found tnem turned out to be very nice. There are also two restrauants in the hotel that noone tells you about. The staff at this hotel needs to learn to be more informative and helpful.

Beware if you need internet

Good room, good breakfast. Location not very central, good legs required.
The internet connection was horrible - very slow in the evening. If you do not
ask, they do not tell that you need a username and a password. So, you open
your laptop and then discover that you need to go back to them. Then, they
do not tell you that what they give you will expire in twelve hours.

This hotel is very conveniently located close to train station. Town is pretty small and so you can walk to the center of the town in 10 minutes. Hotel is very clean and staff was very friendly. food in the restaurant was not that great but you have many options in the city which are close by.

very good choice

Very good overall experience. Room was superb with the only normal problem of a bit of space once you open your suitcase. However the Room in general was of very good size.
Bathroom was of very high standard as well.

Stuff very helpful. There was a Train Strike on my departure date and i was given some help with arranging a Taxi ride to Porto.
Also some help with my questions as to where to visit and how to get there.
Wi-Fi Internet was free in the room, much appreciated. I was on the 7th floor, not sure if it had anything to do with it but i found out it was very very slow however when i plugged the Computer to the wall (electrical cord, not wired Internet) it seem to be faster. unusual but that how it was.
Hotel is within walking distance from the Old City and all sites you want to visit. It is however up slope a long street so you do need to be fit for repeated trips. Easier to go out then to come back.
otherwise there is bus service that can be used.

Staffs are cool. They did offer standard services but I cannot see any enthusiasm in their work. The triangular balcony of the room is weird. It is right next to a huge pipe and two third of the view is blocked. Not much sunlight can come through. Many major TV channels are missing. The temperature control is confusing. I found no difference when I switched it to 30degree or 20 degree. The only difference it makes is on and off. The only thing that impressed me is the environmental friendly packaging of shampoo and shower gel which is made of recycled paper.

A very nice hotel with a good restaurant although not consistently good food quality. Staff was friendly and rates were reasonable. A very relaxing downhill walk into the downtown area, which is quite charming. Looking forward to returning to this hotel again.

Estuvimos cómodos aunque al ser una suite esperaba que hubiera cafetera en la habitación. Hay parking tanto cubierto como exterior. La zona de spa consta de un jacuzzi y una piscina con un par de chorros; en nuestro caso no sirvió de relax ya que las familias que iban con niños pequeños la usaban a modo de parque acuático; sería recomendable fijar un horario para los niños. El gimnasio es amplio y tiene de todo. El desayuno es correcto. A 10 minutos andando del centro histórico.

Bien gracias a que me cambiaros de habitación, en origen me asignaron una que daba a la fachada principal, horroroso el ruido que proviene de la calle, es una circunvalación y pasan todo tipo de vehículos, camiones bus etc. Me cambiaron a una que daba a la parte de atrás y llegó el silencio. Wir hatten ein Zimmer in einem der oberen Stockwerke mit wunderbarer Aussicht auf die Stadt. Das Zimmer ist komfortabel eingerichtet, sauber und ruhig. Der Service war sehr zuvorkommend. Das Hotel liegt ca. 500 Meter von der Altstadt entfernt. Diese ist sehr gut zu Fuss erreichbar. Das Hotel wird vor allem von Busreisenden genutzt. Daher ist es sinnvoll, die Frühstückszeit entsprechend später anzusetzen.

A pesar de llegar antes de las 12, bastante antes, nos dejaron entrar a la habitación sin ningún problema. Muy amables en la recepción. La habitación -perfecta - . El hotel cuenta con spa , que ya funciona, aunque no fuimos si vimos bastantes huéspedes con toalla y esas cosas. Nos invitaron a un vino verde en el bar del hotel. El desayuno buffet, exquisito y abundante. El personal que lo atendía muy amable y correcto. En resumen , todo muy bien.

Belle vue depuis les chambres donnant sur la ville et au bar.
La piscine et le spa sont très vétustes et sales
Il ne faut pas seulement payer les bonnets de bain (vu dans un commentaire donc j’avais pris les nôtres), il faut descendre les serviettes de la chambre ou payer 1€ par serviette et 5€ par peignoir....
Tout ça dans une ambiance : bruyante, chlorée et d’esprit piscine municipale....
Petit déjeuner varié mais pas particulièrement bon ou mauvais.

Une nuit en famille

Le séjour a été très agréable. Le seul bémol de la chambre est que le bouchon de la baignoire était cassé et donc on ne pouvait pas prendre de bain. Sinon la suite familiale proposée était spacieuse, agréable, confortable et adaptée à une famille.
Le petit déjeuner était parfait. Il y en avait pour tous les goûts, salé et sucré.
Le personnel est toujours très professionnel comme ce fut le cas lors de notre précédent séjour.
Nous continuons à le recommander les yeux fermés.

Nós só ficamos uma noite, mas deu para ver que o hotel , tinha tudo o que um viajante precisa. O restaurante, foi muito bom, um pouquinho caro, mas tinha qualidade. Quartos e banheiro, bem limpinhos. Piscina deu para ver, mas não chegamos a usar por falta de tempo.
