This hotel is like stepping back in time. It is beautiful and is located on the main square of the old city. However it is very quiet and safe. We didn’t eat at the restaurant but it is a Michelin restaurant and is very beautiful. The breakfast they served in the morning was amazing. The room was very clean and in good condition. The wall thermostat needed some repair but it still worked just fine. The art work in the room and halls was beautiful. Would definitely recommend and stay here again.

The only thing to regret is that the Parking Lot is a bit far away from the hotel and you have to carry your baggage to the hotel.

Lovely hotel located in the heart of the old city. The short walk from the car park is no real inconvenience and the setting within the car free cobbled streets more than compensates.

This hotel is truly authentic, with rooms that are both very clean and uniquely designed. It’s centrally located, making it easy to explore, and the surrounding area is absolutely gorgeous. The stay was extremely comfortable, with everything you could possibly need thoughtfully provided. The toiletries were excellent, and even fresh water was left for a nightcap. A wonderful experience overall!

We like the location of the property in the old town. It was centrally located and within easy walking distance to many restaurants and sights. It is a nice walk to the old castle. It is also conveniently located so you can walk into the newer parts of town to shop and eat as well. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The buffet breakfast was well appointed and nicely laid out with excellent service. Eggs are freshly cooked to your preference.
The wooden shutters on the room balcony and window were very nice. Hotel parking is at site located a short walk from the hotel and google maps directions to the hotel direct you up a one-way street.
The only negative is that there was an issue with the shower pan separating form the wall in one corner which caused some moisture damage to show on the shower wall.

This was my favorite hotel during my trip to Portugal! My room at the hotel was very nice. The breakfast was excellent. And the staff were excellent as well. The location is within walking distance of the castle, shopping and also very good restaurants. The hotel has a Michelin restaurant. We ate there and it is excellent.

It is a most elegant space in the historical quarter, with themed guest rooms (ours was named after the inscription of the city on the UNESCO World Heritage List).
LOCATION: Situated at the very heart of the Centro Historico, the hotel is a short taxi ride from the train station and the bus station (even walkable with light luggage).
HISTORY: The elegant breakfast verandah of the hotel opens out onto the historical Largo da Oliveira, while the main entrance to the hotel opens onto the Rua de Santa Maria, said to be the first road built in Portugal (Guimarães being where Portugal's history begins).
At its upper end, the Rua de Santa Maria culminates in the Paço dos Duques de Bragança and the Castelo de Guimarães, while at its lower end it becomes a part of the Largo da Oliveira, with the Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Oliveira. While the latter is still a living church, a part of it has been converted into the Museu de Alberto Sampaio (at the height of the summer holidays, the museum stays open late into the night).
Guests of the hotel are within walking distance of all key sights, and a walk away from the Teleférico de Guimarães, the cable car that transports one to Monte da Penha.
All being well, we shall be returning again.

This hotel, situated in the old town, was superb. We were greeted on arrival with a cup of coffee, and seated in this elegant, book lined foyer on very comfortable chairs. The bed room was spacious, elegant and offered all the toiletries. The sheets were super soft as was the bed. The one negative was the air conditioning did not seem to function and the lift at times malfunctioned. The staff were extremely warm and generous of their time. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

We happened to stumble upon this gem while traveling from Porto to Galicia Spain and enjoyed our stay very much. The staff was helpful and friendly. Perfect area for walking around and parking close by, maybe a couple of blocks away. Don’t leave without having a wonderful meal at the hotel restaurant and sit outside if possible. The reading room was my favorite place after a long day of touring. We loved being able to help ourselves to tea or espresso in that special place. I was concerned about not having a room overlooking the square, but in the end I was happier since the square fills with people late into the night and we didn't hear any of it!

An excellent choice when staying in Guimaraes, Portugal. Located right in the heart of the historic city center, easy walking distances to essentially all historic sites in the city, as well as to many restaurants and small shops in the city center. Michelin star HOOL restraint on site. Two potential drawbacks: (1) hotel is not accessible by car. You must park about 300-500 ft away and drag your luggage to the hotel; and (2) there is no swimming pool. Otherwise, an excellent 4-star hotel right in the centre of Guimaraes. Will stay here again should my travels bring me back to Guimaraes sometime in the future.

This was a great location and we enjoyed the breakfast more than almost all other place we stayed. The tourist info centre is very close and we did drop in to get some tips. Everything is walkable once we parked the car. Despite the hotel giving us very specific instructions on the parking, we did find it a bit challenging. Oh well, we got there. This hotel is right in the heart of the lively old town, and an easy walk to the sights of the city. We discovered that it isn't realistic to drive to the hotel, but enjoyed our attempts to do so. Then one of the staff members accompanied us to the garage, where they offer free parking - very kind and helpful. The hotel restaurant is also excellent, and right on the main plaza. I would stay here again, and enjoy this beautiful city.

This is likely the aesthetic they are going for but it would be nice to have better lighting in the bathroom and at the bedside. Bkfst included hot scrambled eggs and meats, good fruits and juice but coffee was very poor quality - tasted like instant or perhaps cheaper robusta beans. Overall I'd stay there again.

Pleasant and certainly in the old town center BUT it is only reachable on foot and nowhere does the hotel advise on how or where to park. After much circulating the town we accidentally discovered a “secret” entry-blocked side stub street used by them for permit parking. Be warned—you won’t find this on your own! The hotel must do better here.

This could be a very nice hotel. The rooms are large and the beds are good. The position of the building is right on the main square. So, what's wrong with it? The welcome was none existent. We were not greeted in a way you would expect. We were told to fill out a form and he complained we had no passport. There were no pleases no thank you's. It was borderline rude. The hotel room needed some TLC. There was missing paint, mould in the bathroom, a blocked drain so the shower flooded the floor and entrance. We needed to ask for more shower gel, as we had one tiny bottle between two. Crazy. Later we asked what time breakfast was and we asked for a late checkout, which was denied. The answers had no warmth and the woman could not care less. Breakfast was adequate, but again there was no welcome and the waiter never smiled. Food items ran out and were not replenished. Coffee was instant and the water was pumped out of a flask, this is in Portugal for goodness sake. Great coffee is everywhere, this hotel serves instant and it's supposed to be 4 star. Overall the breakfast was poor. This hotel lacks a friendly service ethos. The structure, position and room size are excellent, everything else is not. For £80 a night, I would expect it to deliver a far better experience than it does.
