Not a 4 star hotel. Very fated and in desperate need if a refurb and a giod clean. It was like stepping back into the 70s. The room was fithy and there were 2 people running the whole place that were running around everywhere looking stressed. Not the relaxing break we were hoping for

Irton Hall is a historic property in a quiet part of the Lake District but near to Eskdale, Wasdale and Ravenglass. They have kept the original buildings (no concrete hotel block behind) and the open lawn, across which a multitude of peacocks march around. The food in the bar was far better than normal bar food - my venison must have been stewed for hours, it was so dark, rich and tasty! Game pie was good too.

Beautiful building and property. Spacious rooms with decent wifi, fridge, fan and comfortable chairs and bed. Good restaurant in the building too. Enjoyed the critters in the yard: cats, peacocks, Guinea hens, chickens, geese, and scrunchy faced pigs. Would have loved to have stayed longer.

Just marvellous

We love this place. Have been there 3 times with our dogs. Walking them is so easy there is a large green area just outside or a walkway around the estate, just what you need early morning and bedtime.
The staff are great they are professional courteous and friendly. Emma the manageress is a joy and works really hard to make sure you enjoy your stay. The chef also needs a shout also, the meals are top class.

Great location, easy to find using SatNav, and attentive staff. The room was decent with a powerful shower and tea/coffee making, comfy bed, decent space with desk & chair. Whilst the carpets on the staircases seem a bit dated, otherwise it was a splendid stay with a cracking good breakfast! And love the peacocks strutting around the grounds!

Its a beautiful building in a lovely location. The fure alarm went off in the early hours and as there are no staff manning reception,guests were outside in the rain for 45mins. Whilst unusual, i accept, the response needs to be improved.
Staff were friendly and the breakfast was delicious.
The spa bath didnt work, and the shower didnt get very warm.
The bed though,was really really comfortable.

What a find! This beautiful hall is just perfect. Fabulous location with peacocks and lovely trails to walk in the extensive grounds. Our room had a super king bed and usual facilities. There is a spacious dining room and well stocked bar. You won't go away hungry as the food is excellent with generous portions. Very friendly and helpful staff. It's a must visit!

On driving in to Irton Hall, first impressions very nice… beautiful peacocks on the front lawn. Really Stunning.
The staff were all exceptional, friendly and very polite and approachable.
We were Checked in really quickly and given our room key .(no16) the room was huge and really nice. The view over the grounds with mountains was just perfect. Bed was really comfy, with crisp white bedding and nice pillows.Bathroom was great. Powerful shower, and a Jacuzzi bath which was very much needed after climbing Scafell Pike. Which was only 25mins drive away..
Breakfast and evening meals were really good too. Overall a really nice couple of nights stay over on our first trip to The Lakes. Overall excellent stay in this hidden gem in The Lakes, Thankyou to all

Irton Hall was just perfect for us. Warm and friendly staff, a small cosy bar and the room was large and comfortable. Its not often you get a spa bath in your ensuite. Shower was powerful with plenty of hot water. Really enjoyed the breakfast. The full English was not fatty and to be offered haggis as well was a bonus. A really characterful venue which was relaxing and set in superb grounds. Loved this place being fairly remote. Just a perfect retreat.

Set in really beautiful surroundings but sadly the rooms need a facelift. Food in the hotel was nice but the staff, while not unpleasant, were far too busy to find out if everything was ok or not. We did complain about our room as it was very small and poorly maintained but no one seemed bothered. Fortunately we were not in it for long. We would definitely not go back.

We found the experience excellent! We only went for a 3 night break but wished we could have stayed longer. the Hall is very interesting and the service, cleanliness, and staff were really friendly and could not do enough for you.
The quality of the food was excellent my only complaint (if it is a complaint, which it isn't) is the potions are too much for my wife to eat. We will be going again.

Bad experience

The cottage that i booked was no good for a family with a toddler as there is steep stairs with not gate, this was sold as a property for a family when it isnt, the hotel wanted me to pay a extra £100 to switch to the hotel

I was moved cottages also because the first one smelt of damp

due to all of this we where unable to say and due to the terms and condingtions we couldnt even get a refund

My husband and I loved our stay here.
The food was amazing. The staff were very friendly and polite. Nothing was too much trouble. The Two ladies that serve breakfast every morning were lovely and very knowledgeable about the area.
Jamie was such a lovely, friendly, funny person. All the staff are a credit to Irton Hall.
We will definitely be booking to go back.
It is a very peaceful place to stay with lots of character. It’s a bit out of the way but that’s what we liked. We would definitely recommend a stay here.

A little gem, hidden in the countryside

My stay at Irton Hall was lovely, all the staff were very helpful. In particular the ladies who served breakfast, lots of local knowledge to tap into. My room was spacious and well maintained, the fridge was an added bonus. The grounds, including the woodlands were immaculate. Having access to a vehicle is recommended due to the location and there's plenty of on-site free parking. Thank you to all the staff at Irton Hall for making my stay a pleasurable one.

A very pleasant short stay!

A most enjoyable short break for the Western lakes. Major pluses were the hotel grounds, the excellent quality, presentation and variety of food served both for breakfast and dinner, and especially the friendly and helpful members of staff.
A slight minus for our room (6) which was on the small side and could have done with a bit of freshening up. It was however the entry level room and was very clean, especially the bathroom.
Overall we were very happy with the value for money and would certainly revisit when in that area of the Lakes

Beutiful building with rich history

Irton Hall was an amazing find. Beautiful building with rich history, and well maintained grounds, surrounded buy an amazing landscape.
The staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly, with heaps of advice of things to do in the West Lakes - far from the crowded tourist traps of the Eastern Lakes.
Rooms were well kitted out and the dining was super delicious.

This hotel is in a beautiful location and is a beautiful building full of character.
There are geese, chickens and peacocks roaming across the front lawn which gives you the idea of what a great place this is.
The rooms are spacious, well maintained and clean.
The food is really good as well- good value and high quality with a great menu choice for both dinner and breakfast.
The staff are also very friendly and helpful as well which makes this a special hotel.

Stayed here a few weeks ago fir my husbands birthday. What a place everything about our stay from start to finish was amazing. Jamie was fantastic and his customer service was brilliant. I have stage 3 cancer so nothing was to much trouble for them. The chef's were brilliant and cooked anything the way u asked because of my illness i have to be carefully. But no everything about it was just perfect. Jamie and warrick manned the bar on our stay and i have to say i had the best laugh ive had in ages. Definitely coming back very soon. Irton hall was absolutely stunning on the outside. The inside appears a lot more relaxed with a pub/bar on the left as soon as you enter the reception. The staff were very friendly and welcoming.
The bedroom was also comfy with a lovely jetted bath to make the stay even more relaxing.

If the idea of staying in an English country home appeals to you, then this is your type of place. The staff are helpful and attentive to all guests need. The tall server to staying here is the quality of food available at very reasonable prices. On the menu were staples such as Haddock and chips, Shin of beef, Sirloin steak, Lasagna and a number of great desserts including a thoroughly decadent tackle dessert. The restaurant also serves a full English breakfast as well as Eggs Benedict.

The property is secluded and the grounds are well maintained and have an assortment of animals patrolling, including peacocks.

Well worth the visit. Give it a try.

Friendly helpful staff, good value for money and good food. chef did some great customisation with our menu choices and breakfasts. really lovely food! not well orientated for walkers( no maps/recommendations/drying room/boot provision /weather forecasts)which is a shame, as the walks within a short car journey of the hotel are fantastic- wasdale with great gable and scafell pike, ennerdale lake- possibly the best walk we have ever done- and eskdale of course. also needs to go green- I ended up taking my recycling home. electric car charger not working so we had to go into whitehaven. room was lovely though( room 14) with a huge marble bathroom and lovely vieews of the grounds, resplendent with peacocks, free range chicken , and a pig in a pig pen! special mention for the delicious pastries at breakfast!

This is my second stay. This time I stayed in a twin room with my brother. The room was very good. The food in restaurant was very good stilton soup was awesome and i couldn't finish my main as i wss stuffed.

A damp and altogether disappointing visit

What a great location and a lovely looking hotel. Unfortunately we stayed on the night after a terrific rain storm. A blocked gulley led to the back wall of our room becoming extremely damp.

Whilst it is a \"dog-friendly\" hotel we were surprised to find dogs staying on the first floor (and yapping late at night).

A damp and disappointing visit

We stayed on the night after a terrific rain storm. A blocked gulley led to the back wall of our room becoming extremely damp.
The hotel was full so we only stayed one night and found warmer accommodation elsewhere in the Lake District.

We were not impressed to have a howling dog in the next door room - it is a \"dog-friendly\" hotel but the dogs should be restricted to the ground floor rooms.

Second time at Irton Hall and will stay again in future.
Room large and comfortable with large bathroom with bonus jacuzzi bath. Staff helpful and breakfast/dinner always pretty good.
Only downside apart from dodgey weather was neighbouring room decided to have a jacuzzi bath at 11.30pm which was pretty noisey!! They only stayed one night.
