No heating the small oil heater not sufficient. Had to ask for towels as the previous ones wouldn't be able to dry
No top of coffee or milk etc
No flexibility of the already booked table
Some members of the team not very helpful

Great place to stay.

Great base for exploring the Lakes. Pub rooms were good value. Welcoming lively pub/restaurant with good range of options and very generous portions! Plenty of free parking. All in all a great experience.

Excellent stay!

Staff were friendly and welcoming, the shepherds hut was clean and well equipped.
The bed is quite high, so may not be great for people with mobility issues.
There is a dog who barks constantly and is kept outside close to the huts, which made sitting out frustrating.

We stayed in a Shepherd's hut and it was great! Lovely location for going walking (only about 10min drive from a car park to go up old man coniston)

Was super cosy and warm inside the hut, everything you need to prepare food, a tv to watch Netflix etc and bed was decent.

It did get quite damp in there at night leaving the corners of the bed a bit wet in the morning but nothing too extreme. (Might be worse after more than 2 nights though.)

The Wilson’s arms was a nice place for food and a drink in the evenings and the deli attached had everything you need.

Would come back!

Lovely stay night before a wedding in Coniston

Had a lovely stay here recently, the staff were really great and very friendly, even allowing me to stay in my room later than the official check-out time as I was getting ready for a wedding. The room itself could have been a little cleaner and one of the lamps by the bed didn't work, but overall it was perfectly fine and more than clean enough for rooms above a pub :) The bed was wonderfully comfortable and I had one of the best nights sleep I've had in a while (especially after driving 7 hours to get there!). Breakfast the next morning was included in the price for the night, with a selection of both continental style and cooked options, my full English came out within 15/20 minutes of ordering and I had a proper, cafetière coffee. Very pleased and would definitely stay again if I'm back in the Lakes!

Booked a 2 night stay with my partner - The room was tidy although the bathroom was quite mouldy and had silverfish running around the floor.

We had an hours wait for breakfast on the first morning and the staff had packed away the bread/toaster etc well before our food arrived (food actually arrived 30 mins after breakfast restaurant had closed).

In the afternoon we asked if we needed to book a table to eat at night. We were told there’s absolutely no chance of a table as they are so busy.

The nearest place for food is in Coniston (over an hours walk away). We didn’t think it was unreasonable as a resident of the pub/restaurant to expect to be able to eat and drink there.

We had to return home half way through our stay and lose our booking costs of £110

I hate to write anything other than a great review but I have to be honest about our stay. We paid £148 for one night in a room that to be honest that was small, smelt musty and just generally unclean. We found hairs in the bed, and in a coffee cup. There was rust on the bathroom radiators, black grouting in the shower and the floor just looked unclean. There was also a large dehumidifier in the room - it was clear why. We didn’t end up staying for breakfast as it didn’t start until 8:30am and we were up and out early so can’t comment on that but when we come to leave I was asked have you paid up instead of first asking how our stay was. I unfortunately cant say I would return, It was nothing like the pictures shared on the booking site.

Cosy warm room with a little mountain view

The room was warm, clean and cosy, comfy bed, bath towels a bit small, had a room with mountain view of Dow Crag & Coniston all be it a little restricted, the food was very good in the evening & the breakfast had a great choice and very tasty, staff were very friendly and helpful, it was a very peacful place to stay quiet at night no noise from other rooms will defo stay again it has been one of our better choices

Perfect relaxing break

Always nice to stay here staff friendly and food is very good especially the Sunday lunch. The shepherds huts are perfect everything you need for a relaxing break nice touch with the dressing gowns so we can get to and from hot tub. Ideally situated for walking don’t have to use car if you don’t want to.

Pleasant stay, in comfortable twin room, the bed was a little soft for me but slept reasonably well, the bathroom was definitely a little small but nicely done with mirrors on all walls at face height (a bit scary). We ate in the bar and had an excellent meal, I’m Coeliac and was very well catered for both at dinner and breakfast. A great plus was a gluten free hand pumped beer on the bar as well

The pod was great and clean except it was so hot during the night and we had to open the door 5-6 times and closer to the morning turning off the heating.

The second day the water was shut down because of water freezing at -1 degree. My expectation was they could handle water running in even more cold weather conditions.

We did the self checkin successfully but no one welcome us pr guide us as local to tell where to go or visit.

Our pod was located in the camper van parking area and does not have hot tub as I saw in the photos.

Warm friendly welcome. Cottage was well equipped.

Booked breakfast for our last morning and this was a let down. I have never been charged extra for coffee with breakfast.

Overall we did enjoy our stay and would go back, but we'd cook our own breakfast!

Another lovely stay in the herdwick apartment, lovely comfortable apartment great for relaxing after a long day out in the mountains. Really well equipped for catering for yourselves or if you dont want to bother you can eat in the pub.
Not a major issue but the only thing that i would say is it needs the sign putting back up for parking space as a couple of times when we came back we couldn't park due to customers of pub parked in the space for the apartment.

This was a lovely Romantic Retreat for the weekend. hotel was well equipped and the bedroom included a bath and shower- and a separate toilet. Absolutely fine if your comfortable-but some may feel a little exposed..

We were not informed they were having building work, we would of not gone had we known as it was like a building site, dust everywhere, drilling started at 8am, had a marquee where you could buy food and drinks, limited menu served in cardboard box with wooden knife and fork. We were very disappointed

Amazing location, starting point for several local walking routes, right by the Old man of Coniston. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The food was superb, we had breakfast included, which was a very good start to our days. Had one evening meal as it was otherwise fully booked. The room was nice, the bed very comfy, however the cleanliness wasn't the best. We had a bag of rubbish presumably left by the previous guests on the balcony, (dog?) hair on the bed -assuming from the decorative cushions on the bed. During the day someone came in to tidy the bed, but nothing else was touched, eg no toilet paper despite it was clearly run out, mugs were not cleaned, etc. No major issues, we had a great time and was very happy overall with the Wilson arms, I'm sure we will go back.

Watch out for the breakfast

The hotel itself is really good with nice rooms. But be aware if you go for the breakfast option. This is what they call 'continental', however, it doesn't match in with what we consider as continental. There was just toast, cereal and a couple of jams.

Overall we had a lovely stay and the room was nice however, we booked a room with breakfast included. When we went down for breakfast we were asked if we wanted anything hot cooking which we asked for 2 English breakfast. Their was no notification that this was chargeable before we ordered and when I checked my booking confirmation, it said breakfast included, no mention of a free continental breakfast. When we checked out we was charged for both breakfast which we was not happy about

Fabulous little friendly place

First off I want to say how brilliant the lady behind the bar was. She was so friendly and welcoming and took care of everything singlehanded and did a fantastic job. The place was really busy in the bar and also in the restaurant.
When we checked in and got to our room it was really nice and cosy. I only marked cleanliness as a little smile because of the amount of cobwebs in the room. The only real downside about the room was the window was drafty and the wind whistled a little bit. However we slept well.
We ate in the restaurant in the evening and the food was delicious. I will definitely be back at some point.
We went down for breakfast and the morning and again couldn’t fault the food. Service was pleasant but not as good as the evening.
Overall I would recommend this place

Handy parking at the front and off the main road. Decent sized room with balcony at the rear! Good selection of real ales and menu choices. Lamb hotpot delicious. Continental breakfast with choice of cereals and yoghurts, toast and bread to slice if needed.Can upgrade to cooked breakfast if needed. Appreciated fire in the bar on a cold Nov night. Friendly staff. Happy to recommend to others.
