Staff were really friendly. Hotel and grounds were beautiful. Rooms were spotless. They also left a teddy on my daughters bed, which was lovely.the only 2 downsides were the WiFi (room 20) wasn’t reliable, this is fine if you don’t need the internet but if you intend to use it was a bit of pain because there was no mobile signal either. I like that it is a dog friendly hotel, however we had a dog barking most of the night at the hotel.

Amazing Room Upgrade and Memorable Dinner

It was our first time visiting the Lake District, and our trip began with a stay at Cragwood Hotel. From the moment we checked in, the staff were so kind and helpful. To our surprise, they upgraded our room and even walked us there personally. The room was absolutely amazing—spacious, elegant, and felt almost like staying in a castle. We arrived at sunset, and when we opened the door, the view was breathtaking. It was such a peaceful, comfortable start to our trip, and really set the tone for a wonderful experience.

We also had dinner at the hotel, which I would highly recommend. After checking in and relaxing, we went to the restaurant and were seated by the window. The dining area only had around five tables, which gave a sense of privacy and space between guests. The waiter was very friendly and attentive, and even surprised us with an extra sorbet. The food was absolutely delicious—something we won’t forget.

Were looking forward to the peace and tranquility of a lakeside venue for a first time visit to the Lakes District after travelling from the other side of the world. First impressions: Room not ready at 3pm check in time. Room was extremely small to fit 2 suitcases or even a toiletry bag in bathroom. Partial lake view if you crane your head in a purchased “lake view room”.
As a dog friendly hotel and a wedding venue, other paying guests treated as a low priority. Constant barking of numerous large dogs during our stay (day and night) and wedding parties taking over spaces that everyone should be free to use but feel they are being intrusive. Staff didn’t go out of their way to solve any problems that were addressed, only offering a “sorry”. Would not recommend or ever want to return to this establishment.

The service needs improvement. We may be unlucky been served by a by a new employee ( I hope it was just a new employee or an untrained one). I ordered a drink a the bar and I actually explained to the lady how to do it - it was just an Apperoll spritz- nothing fancy). On the dinner , after we ordered, after 15 minutes, she came back asking us if we want to order something. The next morning, she forgot to bring me the breakfast ( after 30 minutes of waiting I informed another colleague and found out that it was “missed”). However have paid separate for the “drink and food service”.

First time at Cragwood and it won't the last. The staff are all very friendly and the hotel is very clean, my room was spotless. One of the biggest selling points is there is a large car park, something hard to find at other hotels in The Lakes unless you pay double the room rate.

Lovely dog friendly stay,we had a bottom floor room with patio doors that led out so you could walk your dog straight from the room.
The room was modern and warm and the hotel itself was great to relax in with plenty of places to sit and read or just chill.
We had food from the bar menu which was nice and you can sit in one of the living rooms to eat.

This is a beautiful old country house with lots of original feature. Our room was spacious, spotless and very comfy. The shower was amazing!
Shared areas in the hotel were equally impressive, the bar areas and rooms off to sit and have a quiet drink were lovely, with open fires contributing to the cosy feel.
The hotel is a few minutes drive from Ambleside so well situated for the town. I would definitely recommend.

Lovely hotel- room was big with comfy bed and gorgeous view of the lake and great room amenities.
All of the staff were really friendly and helpful even down to all the lovely cleaning staff! Nice bar.
Only issue was we got locked out when we returned after midnight and no one had mentioned we’d need a code to get in!
Service on breakfast was very slow / came at different times I think they were short staffed.
It was raining so we did miss a pool/gym but a great hotel and I’d recommend for a short break!

Cragwood Country House is a gorgeous hotel on a lovely property. The views of the lake from the hotel were spectacular. HOWEVER... we stayed in room 1, the Honeymoon Suite. It is the best room in the hotel. The shower in the room is COMPLETELY USELESS. One CANNOT take a shower without flooding the bathroom floor. This is due to the design of the shower / tub. So. I had a shower after dinner and before bed, like I always do. Next thing we know, hotel reception calls us to tell us that water from our bathroom is leaking through to the ceiling below! Then my husband has a shower and the same thing happens. Like that's OUR problem and we're supposed to fix it? The guy who called, who was apparently the supervisor on duty, was totally ineffective at dealing with the situation, was unable to find or even offer a solution other than to give us the key for room 2 - across the hall - to shower in the next morning. Meanwhile, while all of this is playing out, my husband and I just really wanted to go to bed, as we had been up and traveling since 4:00 that morning. But we had to wait up while this situation was \"dealt with.\" In fact the supervisor wanted to send someone up to our room right away to attempt to fix the problem - that was NOT acceptable since we were both in bed at that point. And the worst part is, according to the supervisor this happens FREQUENTLY... And they have done NOTHING to FIX this problem other than to keep blaming it on their guests! Do NOT recommend!!!

We only ate in the bar as the Restaurant was fully booked unfortunately - our fault we should have booked ahead. Our b'room and bathroom were really very nice - tastefully decorated and warm... Overall, a delightful experience...

Had a lovely stay albeit a bit of a rainy week but we got some clear spells. The room was large that we had and had a lake view. Very good staff who obviously took pride in their job and could not do enough for us. Fires were lit each evening in the main sitting areas giving a very cosy feel to the place. The hotel location was lovely (right by Windermere Lake), and the hotel room itself was nice enough, but the decor was dated and the food could have been better. It did not state that dinner was pre fixed and the only a la cartel options were at the bar.

Expected better: we arrived before 5pm and were told there weren’t any reservations for dinner so we had to go elsewhere. Also, the king bed was actually two twins pushed together and one of them was quite used with an indent so you couldn’t move to the middle. One of the rooms(9) we reserved had absolutely no internet nor cellular service. When we mentioned it to a staff member they gave us access to the “staffs” login; however, that did not help as the distance to the antenna(WAP) remains the same. We were also told the earliest we could have breakfast would be 9:30a as they had no room in the earlier times. They managed to provide us with a DIY option, milk and cereal, something but it certainly wasn’t the hot breakfast we had included with our rate.

The property has beautiful landscaping and nice area to walk around. The building is old but clean. There is an old section of the hotel where we stayed. The room was neat and clean. The bathroom was pretty good but one big downside was having two separate faucets for hot and cold water on the sink that were not even close to each other.

Asked one of the people on the property if it was the same in the new section and she said yes, which was a bit surprising that in this day and age they could not install a single faucet to provide mixed water

Dated, underwhelming service and ambience.

Grounds are large, garden well kept and there is (small) private access to the lake.

Service is mediocre. Relative to other places in this price range and area, service is bad.

Rooms are dated but clean.

Access to the (often unattended) front desk floods when there's light shower. The staircase turns into a miniature waterfall. The blocked drain is representative of how the building is generally ill cared for (cracks in the ceiling, missing grout etc.)

Self-service Hotel pub has an unimpressive selection on tap but lots of gins. Breakfast is one of the worst I've had in a 3* or up English hotel. They've added a 7.5% service charge to help staff with rising costs of living - hopefully making it into their pockets.

Location is great with excellent dining options within a 10-minute radius (driving).

There are better options in the area but cragwood is dog friendly for a fee.

The hotel seems to cater to a much older audience.

Would not return.

Beautiful lake view room which seemed recently refurbished. Although a small room there was plenty of space for us as a couple and our small dog for one night stay. Dog friendly hotels are always a bonus when travelling, and a lovely touch of dog biscuits and water bowl in our room for arrival.

We didn’t receive the best of check-ins and were not made to feel welcome by hotel staff at all. On checkout there was a discrepancy with our invoice, however this was was promptly resolved with no issue.

This is a lovely property. It is located on the lake in Windermere, and had a wonderful english country side landscape. We enjoy good walk around the area, and by the lake. Sunset was enjoy in the bar where we had a wonderful of the lake and the sunset, while enjoy our wine. The rooms were beautiful and comfortable. It was a great stay. I would have loved to stay longer.

Pros- The location was amazing and the view from the grounds stunning. The reception staff were friendly and on hand to help with anything we needed.

Cons- By the end of our stay our bin was overflowing and we ran out of toilet paper, as no one came in while we were out to check if we needed anything. The mugs weren't replaced and we were having to wash them out ourselves in the sink. There were no signs or indication this was due to Covid regulations. The decor needed updating in the room (we stayed in a first floor double room)- it was a tad shabby and underwhelming for the price.

Grounds are well kept but seating area outside was uncomfortable. Location not great. Not good for walking into Bowness. Brockdale next door was superb for walking round and a great place for children. We were celebrating a birthday during our stay and decided to eat in restaurant that evening. Food far exceeded our expectations. Only negative is staff were aware it was a birthday celebration but there were no additional birthday surprises (a hand chocolate sauce happy birthday inscription) on dessert plate would have been a little extra special touch.
