Lovely quiet courtyard room - 309 - would request again for the peaceful location. We have stayed in a lake view room in the past and would pick the courtyard over it, as it means you aren’t on the main road.
All the staff are friendly and helpful, from check-in, to spa, to restaurant.

Decent stay. The room was nice and the location is perfection. The car park being an extra £12 a night considering that a stay is not cheap. The spa being £60 per person also did not seem like good value for money in my opinion as the service was non existent for the first hour of our experience. Overall, we left feeling that the stay overall was overpriced and not worth the money.

All areas were clean to a high standard and the on site resturant and bar are a bonus. Breakfast was more than what most places offer.

Underwhelming experience parts need updating

For the money this hotel charges you expect the overall experience to be much better. Situated on a noisy road the windows were droughty and had back mould on the silicone, the bathroom tiles needed grouting and the room felt tired, parts of the hotel felt luxurious but this didn’t run through the whole hotel unfortunately. Our experience was underwhelming, the W restaurant served excellent food, but the staff lacked experience and had to ask the kitchen about ingredients twice during us being served.
We won’t be returning to this hotel as I feel there are better establishments in the area which offer better luxury for the same sort of money.

Stayed for a birthday treat and it couldn’t have been more magical! Even with mixed weather, the spa was perfect—steamy outdoor pools with stunning views of Windermere, and cosy indoor thermal rooms to warm up in. We even saw a rainbow over the lake while relaxing in the hot tub!

Staff were lovely, the food was great, and the whole place felt like a luxury retreat. Rain or shine, Low Wood Spa is a dream. Can’t wait to go back! 💗

It was a wonderful stay, the only thing I can pick at, which is so minuscule is the fact there is such limited times on the spa use. Even then, I’m being picky.
Everything else, I can’t fault, one particular thing I have to mention as a positive is the staff are exceptional. They went out of their way, nothing was too much trouble and they were always available to help or let you know anything you had questions about.
Overall, we are planning out another trip to the lakes and this is a possible choice

Lovely hotel but watch what’s included

Low Wood Bay is a lovely hotel with amazing facilities. The room was spot on, restaurants top notch and spa facilities excellent. The only criticism I’d have is that even as a resident you need to pay extra to use the outdoor pool and hot tubs - that was a bit cheeky and also steep at £25 per person. It’s not a cheap hotel anyway, which is fine, and is reflected in the quality but not when you have to pay for extras like that.

Let me start by saying thank you to the whole team for making our recent stay so incredible. We were with you last week Wednesday - Friday. We were put in one of the upper level rooms with a partial view of the lake and it was a fantastic room. From our very first interaction with security at the gate, to checking in with David who was excellent, and all of our interactions whilst we were with you, we had a lovely time. We also booked Thermal journey and a treatment each which we had on the Thursday, the spa was equally as impressive. We also had the pleasure of meeting Puppy Holly (and Tim) which was one of my fiancés highlights. Special mention to Mel in the Winander bar who was lovely and we had several conversations with.

A First Class experience!

We experienced first class service throughout our stay. The hotel was luxurious and well maintained. Every member of staff we came into contact with was both efficient and friendly. On this occasion we only stayed for one night on a B & B tariff. Stay was okay but disappointing. The overall hotel is very nice looking until you get to the rooms at the end of the hotel. The room was very noisy and you could hear the room next door having a normal conversation and any time someone walked near the room you could hear the floors creak. This was not helped by the staff that need to service the rooms had a room opposite ours that was in use a lot. For the price i would not recommend it.

Stayed in the Winander Club, room 888 which was excellent. The hotel and grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The staff were very helpful and friendly and we had our own reception area which was quick. Our room as on the top floor with only one other room. We had a really comfortable bed, bath in main room, good. Size bathroom with nice products and complimentary sweets. But by far the best selling point is the room balcony with amazing views of lake Windermere. Nothing better than sitting have a morning tea / coffee looking at the lake and fells in the cool morning air.
Ultimately we can't fault this hotel and our going to look to make it out base to celebrate our wedding anniversary every year.
Our only suggestion would be for there to be outside towels to dry off plastic balcony furniture and perhaps blankets so you can spend more time enjoying the outside room space as there are no heaters.

Spa weekend was amazing and throughly enjoyed.
However the night in the hotel was terrible. Room was loud from all directions. Banging and trolleys as well as people through the corridors. Also the room was too hot with no fan or aircon. However the window opened fully, this was directly onto a pathed walkway outside so again was noisy and not secure as anyone could have entered the room through an open window. If you get room 312 I would go and ask for a different one !

The view from our room was the only positive for our stay, although what they don't show you in the photos is that the hazel room (I think that's what we had) is actually above the main road so you hear & see all the cars going by from beneath your balcony. We had breakfast in the room both mornings, and both days the cooked food was freezing cold! The scrambled eggs were also a little grey looking, very odd. We ended up having to have an earlier lunch out both days as we were still hungry due to not being able to eat the cold cooked breakfasts (there was also an £8.50 charge per day for it to be delivered), the staff also weren't very friendly or approachable, when walking past they didn't look up & smile or say hello like we've been used to in other hotels, they just seemed unhappy like they didn't really want to be there! Such a shame as we were really looking forward to our stay, but it left us feeling disheartened & not wanting to return

I cannot fault the hotel at all we all wished that we had booked for longer. Everything we needed was catered for, the views from the room and the grounds are spectacular. Unlike other hotels where we are downgraded on the room due to having our dog with us this was not the case he was welcomed with his own bed, towels, bowls and even treats.
We had our evening meal in the bar and the food didn't disappoint either 😋 The only downside was the restaurant staff at breakfast instead of laying the table outside the restaurant so we could eat with our dog as we were told they would we had to eat in the bar area leaving my disabled 80 year mother to rely on us bringing what we thought she would like instead of choosing herself. Breakfast was wonderful but it did blot the copybook.
We will definitely be returning though

Overpriced with hidden charges

This hotel is a large modern hotel that has recently had a major refurbishment. Clearly they are now trying to recover the cost of this investment.
Our room was very small with just enough room to walk round the bed. The quality of the in the room furnishing was good and the view over the lake excellent.
However there are several hidden charges. Despite paying over 350 GBP for one night we had to pay an addition 12 GBP for parking (this is free if you book direct). Also on the room description it states that you have complimentary access to the pool, you need to read the small print that this is for very limited hours and only for the indoor pool. If you want to use the main part of the spa that is extra and needs to be booked in advance.
Breakfast was good despite the wait to get into the restaurant, even having booked a time at check in there was still a queue.

Overall I would say this hotel is clearly over-priced, especially given that so much is at extra cost!

This was advertised as a resort and spa; however it seems that the two are not related. The pool and spa facilities were only available to the hotel customers early in the morning or in the evening at the cost of $85 per person per time...assuming g that it wasn't already booked. The advertising for this hotel and spa is very misleading and deceptive as the impression one gets is that everything is included. We checked out as soon as we discovered this was the case!

Not a “Hotel & Spa” because spa costs extra

I’ll start with what we enjoyed: great breakfast, great location, friendly staff on the whole.

However, we were most disappointed by the fact the spa wasn’t complimentary for the whole stay, nor is it part of the hotel but instead a third party organisation…

The indoor pool and steam room was available for free from 7:30-10am and 5:30-8pm. If you wanted to use the outdoor pools and hot tubs (one of its major selling points) you either had to pay £15pp uplift for the 7:30-10am session… or attempt to book in advance for £65pp.

I tried to book a session in advance via the hotel, but by the time I was able to get the correct contact info for the spa we were told they were sold out for our entire stay… and when I tried again after check in I was simply told “we aren’t part of the hotel so you shouldn’t try and book through them.” So it sucked that they don’t even reserve some slots for hotel guests…

I booked the stay as a non-refundable (that was the only option on Hotels.com) and the information on the spa limitations was only conveyed after we booked, which wasn’t a great feeling after the premium price tag I’d just committed to.

Another snag includes getting a parking bill, despite having no car.

I would not choose to stay here again. Instead I would stay in a cheaper guest house, and pay the £65 as an outside guest for the spa, since the uplift you pay to stay here doesn’t include it anyway.

We stayed in the Winander part of the hotel. The room was nice with a great view but the whole experience wasn’t 4 star. There was supposed to be a separate check in in this building but we had to walk over to the main building for this. Breakfast was meant to be served in the Winander block too but this was cancelled in the morning. Understand things can happen lat minute but the rooms are charged at a higher rate for these ‘elite’ services. The front of the main hotel also had scaffolding up which made it look unsightly. Again understand work may need to be done but the hotel should advise people in advance. This trip was for my husband’s birthday and it didn’t have the 4 star wow factor. We are regular travellers and feel it wasn’t worth what we paid sadly. Lake views are stunning from the property and all staff were friendly.

Love hotel, staff very friendly, the grounds are well looked after with lots of rabbits bouncing around.

The hotel is pet friendly, which is great, however you have to eat your breakfast in the bar area on your own and cannot enjoy any of the restaurants. Totally understand that not everyone wants dogs around them whilst they are eating, but they could section a bit of the restaurant off for these customers or off the menu in a different part of the hotel.
Instead we had to get taxis to different restaurants, luckily Lake Side taxis accept dogs in their cars.

Friendly clean hotel

Love hotel, staff very friendly, the grounds are well looked after with lots of rabbits bouncing around.

The hotel is pet friendly, which is great, however you have to eat your breakfast in the bar area on your own and cannot enjoy any of the restaurants. I totally understand that not everyone wants dogs around them whilst they are eating, but they could section a bit of the restaurant off for these customers or off the menu in a different part of the hotel.
Instead we had to get taxis to different restaurants, luckily Lake Side taxis accept dogs in their cars.

We've stayed in some amazing hotels around the world, but not many beat the location, views and overall experience of The Lowood. Its position on the lake and views across it and up into the Langdales are simply spectacular. Perfectly positioned for sunset too. Whether you are travelling from near or far, If you have booked just B&B be sure to upgrade to access the outdoor spa - it is stunning (do it in advance as places are limited to ensure its not overcrowded). Fingers crossed you get one of those days of sunshine for a full on and mind-blowing combination of nature luxury. We ate twice at the W and the food was fab. An absolute gem of the Lake District.

Careful when booking

When you book a room here, especially one of the more expensive rooms, you would expect to be able to use all of the spa facilities, this is not the case. Nowhere on the booking site does it mention that the spa has to be booked separately and when I tried to book the \"thermal journey\" spa experience it was fully booked. I had no idea that this had to be booked separately and only found out by accident when I heard some work colleagues discussing it but by that time I had missed all the vacant slots. It seems that non residents can book the spa leaving residents who have paid top dollar without the choice of the spa which I think is wrong. That said, we were able to book part of the spa including the outdoor pool which was wonderful. The whole experience was amazing and the food was delicious.

Couples night away

Hotel is really nice , very clean and good facilities . W restaurant was really good . Couple of bits of feedback would be to improve breakfast selection( English breakfast was good ) more really the yoghurts / bread selection. Staff really nice but maybe could do with some additional training on talking to clients but nothing too concerning , just needs to match hotels image of great service , would go back - yes !

Very mediocre

A very average stay. I wouldn't say this hotel is anything to write home about, the entrace is lovely and modern but the further you get into the hotel the more dated it gets.
Our room was nice enough, if a little confusing to get to the first few times - down some stairs, through some corridors, then up some stairs, through a few more corridors, up to a final staircase and then down the corridor to your room. One of the staircases didn't have a lift so that was a bit annoying when checking in with our bags. I noticed that they did have luggage carts but we were never offered any assistance.

The biggest annoyance is the spa, you can use the pool for 2 hours in the morning or 3 hours in the evening. This does not include the \"thermal journey\", it honestly just seems a little bit tight to charge £12 per use on top of the price of the hotel. I've stayed in many spa hotels and I've never has such limited times to use the pool.

Overall it was a nice enough stay but we probably wouldnt go back.

We originally booked for 2 nights but had to cut short the trip as my partner was bitten by bed bugs and left her with bites all over her ankles and back of her legs. The room was very dated and bathroom basic and unclean in general.when paying a good price for a room u expect good standards. A shame because the hotel grounds are beautiful and restaurants very stylish and view from room was impressive

Fantastic stay

Fantastic stay at the winander club. Service was brilliant and all staff very friendly and helpful. Room was beautiful and to a very high standard. Breakfast was a particular highlight. Good choice and excellent quality.

Be warned that not booking directly through the hotel incurs a £12 per night parking charge.

We also did the thermal journey in the spa which also included lunch in the blue smoke on the bay. Food was amazing and well worth the money.
