Self check instructions were clear. Room was serviced while we were out. Help via the phone was immediate when we needed it. Room clean and spacious. All very good. Only downside was that car park was a good 5-8 minute walk away… but at least there was parking as opposed to there being none. Needed window open as warm weather but that lead to noise disturbance. Of course that was due to fabulous central location - I realise you can’t have central and quiet! I’d stay again, thank you.

Great as a set down pad

This was a great pad for us to use while walking around the lakes. No aircon meant sweaty nights in a family room, but the room was fine, seperate but private bathroom. Great location.

Great value for money :-)

Make sure your phone number is up-to-date on your account as they will try to text/Whatsapp the entry codes to you. I didn’t realise that, so had to call them and pop by the bar next door to get said codes, defeating the point of a self-serve accommodation which is what we wanted. Still, it was a quick fix, but something that seemed avoidable if I knew to check the details Hotels.com hold for me (or if Ambleside Central email you instead? My messages from them, via email, were coming through fine). The car park is about an 8 minute walk away from the accommodation so be prepared for that. The room itself was great for what we needed - clean and comfy. The fan didn’t work and it was too late at night to contact anyone when we realised, so it’d be fab to just check those sort of things regularly (eg the kettles) if possible, so guests can continue to enjoy the self-serve accommodation :-) Excellent location, brilliant value for money, and although a few minor comments above, I’m simply hoping to help future guests and I’m in no way whinging; we would happily stay again!

Do not stay here if you actually want to sleep. Given the location on the main road, I was expecting some traffic noise but I was not aware of the noise that would come from the pub. A live band ended up playing when we were there so we didn’t get any sleep until well after midnight.

The single bed was uncomfortable - you could feel the springs in the mattress.

The toilet flush was noisy and randomly went off in the middle of the night even if no one was in the bathroom.

The room hadn’t had a thorough clean - I found rubbish from the previous guests in the room.

The management was unresponsive - I sent a message before our stay questioning the validity of the parking permit provided as it said it was valid for March. We ended up just parking in a nearby street which was disc controlled which was much closer than the parking provided.

Was simple accomadation. Whole building has a weird smell. Our chests were hurting after waking up. Facilities were standard. There was damp on the ceiling of the shower. Parking was a 7 min walk away which was inconvenient when having luggage to carry.

Extremely loud basic room

It’s a shame as the room (2) was fine; basic with very small en-suite (needed the tap fixing and the extractor fan before the mould properly sets in, but none issues really!) The actual issue was the noise on a night, it wasn’t that bad on the Friday - there was a live singer which ended at midnight ish. But OMG we thought it would be similar sat night, but after the musician the thumping hard core club music started and went on until 3am. We came away to catch up on sleep and had a lot less than we would with our little ones. Unless you want to join the party avoid!

Situated in a lovely street, can be a bit noisy at night with the pub but not enough to annoy us. Will definitely stay again.

Terrible experience. Wish i had read reviews before booking. Stayed in room 2 which was over the bar. Noise from people outside went on until 3am. We had booked for two nights but after one to avoid another sleepless night. Room was dark and felt like a haunted house. Strange red mark left in toilet. Won't be returning.

Whilst the room was pleasant, the hotel itself was a nightmare to find, its literally a doorway on a high street.
We didn't receive the said text message with entry codes to entre the building or further instructions how to find it.
Parking was off site, 15 minutes walk away, we had to travel back to the car twice to collect our belongings, not ideal.

At first look seems OK but is a bit grotty. It was very noisy, too hot, cooler/fan did not work and shower did not work properly. Could hear every slightest noise from within the building and some kind of boiler kept buzzing very loudly all night. We literally didnt sleep despite trying and checked out at 7AM. I quite franky want a refund and we will never returm again.

Lovely central hotel

We had a lovely time at Ambleside Central.

We did struggle with the entrance keypad however after popping into the Lily Bar next door, someone came to our rescue (thank you!)

It was central which was perfect for us as we were there to cheer on a friend who was running the Lakes 100.

Room was clean and welcoming, we were in room 10 which was on the top floor. The only downside was the stairs to get there and the heat in the room, unfortunately the window wouldn't stay open and the fan did very little. But as we only came in on an evening, it wasn't an issue for us.

Room was cosy and comfortable, we had a bathroom in our room and the shower was powerful and welcome after trekking round the hills.

All in all 10/10 stay and we would return, albeit after booking directly and requesting a room on a lower floor. But for the price we paid and the condition of the property we found it faultless.

Our check in was difficult. They texted codes to us for entry to the building and to our room, and sent it by WhatsApp as well. However, being from Canada we did not have access to our Canadian text plan and don't have WhatsApp. The staff in the adjoining pub were able to help us out by contacting whoever from the hotel. This \"hotel\" has no lobby or staff, so should probably be classed as a hostel. Once inside our room was two floors up, with stairs only. So be prepared to carry your luggage. Also, once we were in the UK we got an email with a pdf to print for our parking permit. We had no access to a printer, so that wasn't possible. It would have been helpful to have received this before we left home. The room itself was quite adequate, with a nice shower. One night we had to resort to earplugs as the couple on the other side of the wall were having a long conversation that wasn't even that loud, but was very disturbing. Knowing all this, I would stay here again and be prepared for the nuisance factors. The location is very convenient, right in the middle of town and less than a block from the bus.

Good size clean room with clear information about check in and car parking. Nice bar attached where we ate one night ( Lily Bar).
Only slight downside which didn’t spoil our stay was that it was suggested on a notice in the room that bins would be emptied daily and we hoped that if that was done the loo roll would also be topped up but the bins weren’t emptied so we had to ask at the bar for more loo roll which was in fairness delivered very quickly. Good stay overall at a decent price in a good location

The payment method offered rejected every card that we tried and we finally paid at the Lily bar on the day that we arrived. We were very grateful to the bartender who carried our bag upstairs as we were on the top floor. The room was very dark and there were insufficient electrical sockets for the table lights and kettle. The room was clean, but the plumbing was very noisy - sounded like a jet taking off when flushing the toilet. Location was excellent.

Cudnt get in , every time we went out we had to call into lily's to get the young girl who was so helpful to get us into the place .
If u have mobility issues fhis place is not for u . U have to park your car on a football pitch which is a good 15mins walk . Rooms are really small too . Love Ambleside but would stay here again

It was overall the very disappointing accommodation, so much so that my wife was appalled by the room that I had to book alternative room for the rest for our stay the ‘Lyndale Fuest house’ which was 100x better, roughly the same price per night but no comparison between the room, furthermore you also get a brilliant breakfast as well, better then any cafe in the district handsdown. In summary don’t waste your money on this accommodation. Avoid.

The accommodation itself is great. Unfortunately one of the hotels greatest strengths is also a major drawback, at least if you’re a family staying there. There is a very noisy (but good) bar below the hotel. So it was difficult for us and the children to sleep with the music and shouting until the early of hours of the morning.

Absolutely fine for a cheaper place to stay as location is good just on a weekend it was very loud. Heard a lot of shouting outside and the hall way didn’t look very inviting. Was clean and we literally just wanted somewhere to sleep as wernt spending any time there.

We stayed in room 9 which was spotless and nicely decorated.There needs to be a mirror over the desk to do your hair and make up and there needs to be a little shelf in the shower to put your things on.It is over a bar which is open until 12.30 so a little noisy but still worth staying .Really good value for money

The room is in a good location for access to Ambleside centre (as name suggests). Its a basic room with no frills. Its a little rough a round the edges but clean and the bed was comfortable. The free parking is on the other side of the village so we parked on a nearer road. There was some noise from a bar next door and an extractor fan huming but it did not go on too late so we slept ok.

Location is excellent. Room was very clean. However, the window does not fully close in room 1 and when there is a takeaway food outlet directly below, the stay became a disaster. Very noisy until after midnight and when you have 2 children, this impacted on the following day with very grumpy tired kids. A real shame.

Bring ear plugs!

The hotel is basic a little rough round the edges but fine, the room was clean, comfortable and we were at the back of the building so no street noise. It also has car parking which is free, about a 10 min walk from the property. If you know Ambleside even with a short walk this is a plus, there is a loading area outside on the street too.

However I think the walls inside must be
made of paper! You could hear everything toilets flushing, doors banging, next doors tv and their conversation! This included the morons coming in at 1.30am and proceeding to bang, clatter and talk loudly on their phones for the next 2 hours (special note to couples you can hear everything!) Being an outdoorsy person I like a good nights sleep before hitting the fells!
Side note Gaynors sell ear plugs, I bought some for the second night which helped a lot.

Sad in Ambleside.

The room pictured is deceiving. While we booked a ensuite, the bathroom was across the hall. Also, the parking for this establishment was not on premises as stated. We had to park on the other side of town near a campground. We now understand why it was a nonrefundable booking.

We found that the walls were damp and there was mold in the ceiling. Also we were not told that the room did not have an attached bathroom . It was outside the room and very inconvenient! As for the parking, though it was free the car park was far from the guest house and we spent almost an hour finding it for lack of good directions. The light over the sink in the bathroom was not working and it was difficult to get into the tub as there was no support handle.

Not a 4 Star ....

Stayed here last week and didn’t enjoy it at all. It’s advertised as 4star, but it’s a 3 at best. Booking confirmation email told us the keys are to be collected next door which is a restaurant, but this was closed and a note on the door informed us to go to the bar next to that (obviously all have the same owner), to which we found 2 other couples checking in, and the barmen not being able to find the check in book or keys :(
Eventually checked in to find our room was on the 3rd floor with no lift. There was no iron in our superior large room (which it clearly wasn’t) although it should have been, and there was damp up the wall behind our bed. There is no restaurant in the hotel as advertised,only one next door; but this is not open for breakfast, so you’ll need to find a cafe. There was free parking, but this is at the local football field, a 8min walk away; and in the middle of nowhere down a lane....not a place to leave any valuables on show.

Lovely clean guest house, in central Ambleside - perfect for all activities. Only down sides were very very small room, the window that opened onto rear of bar / restaurant below so was very noisy and also too hot (as couldnt open window due to noise) and the provided fan was fairly useless.

On arrival there was no parking other than what the hotel offered at a local football club down a few dark lanes. I booked a large double superior room but whatnot we got in my opinion was a small double and didn't have a fireplace etc in the room like the pictures. There was no iron or ironing board in the room either and also no wifi password overall the room was clean and tidy but I wouldn't book again there is plenty others in the local area for the same price of better quality. If your looking for a centralised hotel for a couple of nights then this is ok
