Food and spa were incredible but for us the area that let it down was the lack of soundproofing in the rooms. We had a couple above us and we could hear snoring clear as day and everytime they moved the floorboards had such loud squeaking. They didn’t help dragging suitcases about in the night for some reason but for one of their more luxury rooms, it was disappointing

Perfectly placed in a quiet spot on the edge of Grasmere with stunning views. Lots of walks from the doorsteps of the hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful, took our luggage, took an interest into our stay, couldn’t fault the service. Breakfast set up was good with a range of cooked options included in the breakfast price. Had one meal at the restaurant, nice setting and atmosphere, professional service, food was decent slightly underwhelming however given the reputation of the restaurant. Spa was small but rarely busy, great for relaxing in after a day out walking. Room was a little tired, in need of renovation, but a good size and very comfortable. Smart TV was a big plus. Separate bath with its own tv felt luxurious. Overall a lovely stay

Always a lovely stay at this hotel; small and personal with very attentive staff. The spa is a great addition and the grounds are lovely. The restaurant menu is limited for vegetarians and this is my only critique, other than the surcharge for parking which felt a little like an upsell. Nonetheless, I will be back!

Pleasant, friendly and helpful staff throughout the hotel. We were upgraded on arrival to a better room which was large with a beautifully lit bathroom with toiletries. We spent a relaxing hour in the spa, the hot beds are an excellent idea and I am missing it. The room was extremely well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The garden was fabulous and the restaurant beautifully designed to maximise the garden view.

Firstly this is our go to hotel in the Lakes. Been using this hotel for over four years now.
As usual the staff are great throughout the hotel. The food at breakfast and dinner were excellent.
Unusual for the UK I know but we had two days of sunny hot weather. We were allocated the on site wooden lodge adjacent to the Spa. Unfortunately the lodges do not have aircon, and being in the wooded garden we couldn't open the windows due to flying insects. Using a single fan in the bedroom didnt help. Maybe insect devices are needed along with aircon units.
Ps. The spa was great and included in the roon cost.

The only complaint if any was the jacuzzi style plunge pool broke down on the first evening of our stay therefore it was not available throughout which is one of the main reasons we booked this hotel.

The accommodation was expensive and then you are charged £10 per night to park when they cannot guarantee space in their small shingle car park. I thought that a shabby and grabbing change since the hotel buy out. By comparrison Grand at Grasmere is newer, slick, clean and cheaper. Great views of lake, car park marked out, and free. Will book there in future.

Stayed for 2 nights. Lovely hotel, ideal location. Arrived early and was able to leave the car at the hotel after checking with reception. There is a daily charge for parking, though if you're planning on just being in and around Grasmere it is reasonable compared to the public car parks. Check-in was smooth & trouble-free. A complimentary room upgrade with a large room on the top floor offering views over the fells. Room was spacious, warm and the bed very comfy. A large bathroom with double shower & bath perfect for after a days walking. I only had breakfast at the hotel which consisted of a generous selection of cereals, pastries, fruit, yoghurt, juices etc. Cooked food is ordered and brought to you. Again a generous selection. Only slight downside was the second morning it felt as though they were a bit busier than expected at that time; took 25 minutes to take my order and when it arrived it was luke warm at best; as if pre cooked and not kept hot. Which is a shame as the quality of the food is excellent.
Unfortunately, I didnt get time to make use of the spa facilities.
All of the staff were incredibly friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay and wouldnt hesitate to stay again or recommend to others.

Friendly, attentive staff. Tasty breakfast. Comfortable room, with complementary gin. Enjoyed spending time in the spa. Used our Expedia reward in the bar, relaxing in front of the fire. A great birthday getaway. Just a shame that they feel the need to charge for parking. Would certainly recommend Rothay Garden and hope to return in the future.

The food was mostly good however the portion size for our evening meal was a joke, absolutely tiny, and the breakfast wasn’t great either, the sausages and bacon had obviously been pre-cooked and hanging around for a while and dried out. The music in the restaurant was absolutely awful, terrible covers of songs. In short, I would definitely stay at the hotel again but won’t eat at the restaurant again sunless they improve it. The jumble room down the road was incredible

Comfortable nights sleep, the food was excellent, high quality ingredients and cooked beautifully. Only 2 things that where bit of issue was £10 a day parking at hotel, which was extra think for the money you pay to stay, it should be included. The hotel spa wasn’t working due to refurbishment but didn’t know about it until we arrived .

Whilst the hotel itself is nice. We weren't made to feel welcome on arrival the receptionist clearly didnt want to be there and put a sour note on our stay. The customer service as a whole was lacking. The bathroom wasn't maintained and felt unclean. Overall it is a shame as a nice location and could be brilliant however we wouldn't return.

this is our 4th stay at Rothay and it remains one of our favourites in the lakes. in winter it’s great to cosy up after a long walk in the garden spa, and the rooms and ambience is really comfortable without any pretentious swagger for which some of the other hotels in the area would charge you £100 per night more. breakfast is good quality and staff are friendly and efficient

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home. The spa facilities were a real highlight—so relaxing and luxurious. On first impression, we started off not great as there was a mixup. If you bring a dog you MUST book a dog friendly room - not just let them know a few days before as they won’t let you bring your dog if a dog-friendly room isn’t free.

The room I got, was the one above the kitchen, which meant between 8pm and 11pm I smelled cigarette smoke from staff and heard conversation outside. We reported this to manager and his first comment was to speak with staff. It didn’t work as it happened again the second night. They offered a complimentary drink in our room, which was kind and thoughtful.
So all in all - I appreciated the responsiveness after our pushing, but I think the staff need some training on courtesies regarding noise and smoke given the kitchen is below one guest room.

We only stayed one night but found the hotel delightful. We had stayed before but it was approaching 20 years ago. It was good then, but has been improved with well appointed rooms and a new conservatory restaurant overlooking the gardens which are alongside the River Rothay. Dinner was excellent and breakfast was of a good standard too.

The ‘deluxe’ room was not what we expected. We had issues to be sorted from the minute we arrived in our room. Needed to ask for an extra table lamp in order to use the desk in a dark corner. Toilet was permanently flushing causing noise and wasting water. Television needed connecting properly so no television for our first evening. Bathroom was very grubby. Wash hand basin tap came off showering the whole bathroom. Noise during night sounding like a pump which disturbed our sleep. Finally, not impressed with breakfasts. Had to ask for bananas each day. Had to ask for honey. Choices were very limited.

As a regular in the Lake District, my husband and I decided to stay at Rothay Gardens. Check in was functional but not particularly welcoming. Not informed of vip credit until departure. The room was clean and tidy, furniture tired and the room was small. I would suggest that the compulsory service charge is just put in the price of drinks and food. Overall, a functional stay, but would stay elsewhere in the future. were I felt my stay was better value and customer service was of a greater standard

We stayed for one night in the lodge & it was beyond outstanding! There was only 4 of us but it can be booked for upto 6 people. It was immaculate and well kitted out with really nice furnishings that had a luxurious feel. It was the comfiest & best nights sleep I’ve had during any stay anywhere. The staff were excellent and they gave us great directions up to the local Tarn which was a nice walk with kids. We were even able to take a cold dip in a fall on the way to the top thanks to the information & route that the gentleman checking us in shared with us. Staff were beyond helpful & welcoming. We would highly recommend if you want to stay in a beautiful setting with great facilities and incredible customer service & in a great location then I would highly recommend booking.
