An amazing stay at the Dale Head Hotel!
Beautiful location and well-manicured grounds to walk around. There is access to the lake from the property, but not easily - the path is a little over-grown. The Manager, Dale, was lovely and could not have been more helpful. We were there to hike Helvellyn, and he advised us that Swirls Car park (beginning of the hike) is easily accessed from the hotel by a woodland footpath, rather than the main road, or paying for the car park.
Drinks on the terrace over-looking Thirlmere lake were lovely in the evening, as were the home-cooked bar meals provided. The menu is small, but is ideal for when you return in the evening hungry and wanting something substantial. I had the Chicken & Bacon pie and my husband had the burger - both were cooked beautifully and very tasty. They also served a home-made beef stew with cheese scones, which looked (and tasted, according to other guests) amazing.
A short, 5 minute walk from the hotel is The King's Head Pub on the main road, who also serve delicious food.
We stayed in a 4-poster deluxe double with a lake view. The room was full of character (slanting floor - interesting!) And very comfortable - especially the bed! First time I haven't woken feeling like Ive slept on a board!
Breakfast was also superb! The poached eggs were cooked perfectly each day!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would not hesitate to book again in the future. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Location amazing - quiet, no noise from main road, great view of lake and direct access to the lovely 10 mile path all around the lake. Beds in our twin room were nice and comfy. Lovely staff. Nice breakfast. Only negative is that the hotel really needs a bit of a refurb/modernisation, but for the price it's still great value. Highly recommended

We enjoyed our stay here in a large room with modern bathroom. All staff were very welcoming and friendly, felt homely. The breakfast was delicious. The view of the lake at the front of the hotel was stunning - we enjoyed being able to sit and watch the sunsets. Our only negative point was the poor wifi if you need it (which we did to remotely work so this was a struggle). Otherwise we would happily return.

We where upgraded to a superior room with patio, the views where spectacular, great to sit out in the morning with a coffee and see the sunset come up on the water and hills, unfortunately the soundproofing in the rooms is poor. Apart from your room there is no other facilities at this house, which we found disappointing. Breakfast was very average and small portions, which we felt a little disappointed with.

The only good thing about this hoyel is the view from the front door. Rooms are old and bed clothes smell of damp. Cobwebs everywhere but the dust makes them.look worse. Furniture dates from pre war. Mattress had more bumps than a golf ball. Wifi terrible. Tv was temperamental at best. Avoid.

We were very disappointed with our room, it was really shabby & tired looking.. although the views were spectacular.. we had to choose our grab and go breakfast before we had even finished checking in, which I thought strange. We weren’t advised when booking that the hotel dining room was closed due to COVID-19, & were told what time our breakfast would be delivered to our room, I would have liked a choice.

Great Location. Expensive B&B with NO Breakfast
The Location is great, our Room (No5) was perfect with an unrestricted view across to the Lake. However due to CV19 restrictions there was No Restaurant or Bar. Hotels.com which made no mention on this so I paid £200 a night for a B&B without any Breakfast. Low mark for staff as we only saw the owner on arrival when he delivered the bad news. Whilst the Room was clean the whole place needs some refurbishment (and new Carpets)

Dale Head Hall overall is a nice place . The room No 5 has a splendid view of the lake. We had the 4 course meal which was beautiful and well presented. The staff were friendly , however I would have to say Dale Head lacks atmosphere.. No background music either in bar area or dining area which adds a little ambience. we spent most of our time in our room.. If you want somewhere isolated , very quiet then you would like Dale Head.

Comfortable hotel and lovely room (11) with excellent garden and lake views. The hotel could have better security lighting around the car park and entrance as the hotel is in a very dark and secluded area. Whilst having lovely views, the breakfast room was quite uninspiring although the breakfast provided was very tasty. Most of the staff were very helpful and pleasant. The shower could have been warmer. However we spent a comfortable three nights at the hotel and enjoyed our short break despite the very wet weather.

On arrival hotel had no record of our booking, made 4 days earlier on Expedia. Email confirmation from Expedia had said no need to contact hotel direct so assimed all was be ok. Hotel managed to accommodate us (not one of their better rooms) but not a pleasant experience to turn up and not be expected. Luckily the hotel wasnt fully booked.

Breathtaking lakeside location
Perfect night away, traditional, cosy and breathtaking location. Lovely littĺe touches like the rocking chair and teddy bear in our room, great breakfast wifi in our room and all the staff were friendly and welcoming. Don't expect a modern bathroom or anything fashionable though! This is the complete opposite of a chain hotel and that's why we loved it.

A beautiful hotel in a beautiful location overlooking Thirlmere in the Lake District. We received the warmest of welcomes from the friendly and ultra efficient manager and staff. Our bedroom and ensuite were scrupulously clean with added thoughtful touches like porcelain figurines and top quality figurines. Our king size bed was most comfortable and ensured a good nights sleep. The view of the lake on our awakening was nothing less than outstanding, and the quality of the scrumptious breakfast was excellent, especially the bacon and scrambled eggs. Yummy!
