Overall a very beautiful property and area with truly outstanding views and staff. Downside would be that the bathroom was in need of some maintenance, door was scuffed and needed repainting, shower and bath had areas of patchy sealant.

Overall good stay

Overall lovely stay! Very peaceful and relaxing. We had a balcony with the best view of the lake! Amazing! The grounds were lovely also.
The man at the desk was very lovely, friendly and helpful.
However, they desperately need poo bag bins! It’s a great hotel for dogs and there were no restrictions, however there were no bins at all to put the poo bags which was very annoying. But apart from that no issues.

Overall the stay was good. The location & setting was amazing. The staff were all very friendly and professional. The Reception staff were excellent and very accomodating. The building is looking at bit tired in places and would benefit from some upgrades especially externally. The evening meal was good although portion sizes were a bit questionable given the prices charged. The wine on offer also was a little disappointing. Breakfast wasnt the standard i was expecting.

On arriving I asked if they had bar meals answer yes. Went into empty bar ignored for very many minutes while girl poured water and chatted to colleague gave up . Went to restaurant fine dining menu offered. Asked for bar meal menu That did not go down well. Wine was brought and half a glass of water. Food was excellent. Requested more wine and water twice from reluctant staff! I’m still waiting for the water! The restaurant was not busy.

Lovely staff, impressive building

Very welcoming and friendly staff, there was a small problem with the original room which couldn’t be fixed, but the staff were excellent and immediately moved us into a nearby room as a complimentary upgrade. Handled very professionally and the same staff member checked in with us later in our stay.
The hotel itself is lovely, impressive building in a stunning location, with excellent views from the room we stayed in and from the lounge/restaurant

Tranquil but still disappointed by hotel services

Checked in here after leaving a sister hotel 2 days early due to very underwhelming service.
Hotel is lovely and a very nice break away in a rural setting.
Only negative was that the hotel advertises access to a nearby indoor pool. I asked about this at reception to be told the hotel did not have a pool. I was then told the ‘nearby’ pool was at the sister hotel in Windermere (a 35-40 minute drive away!). This was also the hotel I had checked out of early the previous day. How this can be classed as nearby I do not know.
Otherwise as above if you’re looking for a quiet get away this place is perfect (limited phone signal but that is sometimes a good thing!).
Sadly though I can’t see me staying at a Macdonald hotel again.

The hotel, gardens and location were superb, as was the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. The reason that this was not a 5 star review was due to the fact that the evening meal was both average and expensive - as were the bar prices. £22 for a glass of Rose and a rum and coke are central London prices, which was disappointing. The breakfast was fine.

Amazing and unforgettable stay

We had a lovely family stay at Macdonald Leeming House recently. Firstly, all the staff were really amazing and nothing was too much effort. They made the overall stay experience great. I loved the interior and design of the manor and the gardens are beautiful. It is around 5 minutes to walk to the lake which is very convenient. We would definitely visit again.

EV chargers not working, comfortable room

We booked because the listing indicates EV Chargers available, when we got there the chargers had not been ‘wired in’ according to the receptionist. This was disappointing. The lounge was comfortable and we ate in there. Joseph was attentive to our needs, friendly and gave us some really fab recommendations for the area. For the property itself, generally we would say the lounge furniture needs upholstering and a degree of modernisation throughout the public areas would really lift the place. Comfortable bedroom, quiet location.

We found the property needing update and was very highly priced for what it is. The wonderful view is acknowledged. Our room was noisy with a hot water boiler filling up and waking us on three occasions during the night. The receptionist was not helpful. Food was good especially the breakfast but costly. Most staff helpful but reception not welcoming.

Exceeded expectations, staff were friendly and hospitable and were in high spirits which was what you needed for a time out in the Lake District.

The inside place I could describe was classic, posh and extravagant. It felt a bit like the White House inside.

The view from the breakfast hall took me away. The window side had a clear view of the mountain.

The lawn was well cut and maintained.

Disappointing for the price

Views are amazing, everything else is distinctively average at best. Nowhere near worth the price they charge per night. I would also make sure you get breakfast included with the room or you'll be stung £24 for a rather small 'Full English'.

Restaurant extremely overpriced, £35 for one course, £50 for 2 courses with additional supplements on many of the items on the menus even at breakfast which is supposed to be included. Full English breakfast consisted of HALF a mushroom and HALF a piece of black pudding. Very stingy for price you pay. Had issue with burst water tank one morning so we had a notice saying we may not be able to use water and there was no tea or coffee serviced with breakfast. Will not be returning.

Amazing hotel with views to die for!! We had a balcony with a view and was worth paying for the bigger room. We did opt for a room with a king size bed but got a room with 2 singles put together so was abit disappointing but the view made up for it!! Dog friendly hotel so lots of lovely pooches about. Breakfast was amazing!!! Dry friendly and helpful staff! Lots of choice and again amazing views!!!

Worst Stay in a Hotel ever!

Appalling trip - misrepresentation on the website, check-in time is 4pm and not 3pm, felt it was a scam to get you to spend money on drinks and afternoon tea. Reception Staff Rude and unhelpful. Restaurant prices unbelievably high, paid half the price at an Edinburgh's Royal Mile Michellin Star Restaurant for same size/course meal. Kept awake till 4am by neighbouring guests repeatedly slamming doors, shouting and singing. Found a flea on the duvet - we don't have pets. We were given a reduction for the upgraded room which didn't meet the specification on-line and a reduction of the 'service charge' which we have no idea what this was for.

Despite the late booking by ourselves we were congratulated on arrival (our honeymoon), had extra special touches in the room and complimentary drinks before dinner. The grounds and location were beautiful however the food was very average and over priced for what it was. Breakfast was very disappointing with many dishes incurring extra costs. The room was a nice size but the walls were damp with paint coming off, the cups offered for tea and coffee were dirty, to charge the fees they do the whole place needs a revamp and the kitchen needs to use better quality produce. They have extensive gardens why not use them. Overall there are far better alternatives in the area.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Don’t get me wrong, it could do with some serious renovations, but it’s not as bad as some of the other reviews. The staff are exceptional and always willing to help. The views are astounding and breathtaking and if it’s peace and quiet you’re after, then this is the place. Stunning setting, convenient location to nearby village with lots of eateries. It was generally clean but there’s always room for improvement. We had a pleasant stay nonetheless.

I loved the historic building, I detested, as did many other guests, the sloppiness of SOME staff only 2 merited a word of thanks. The bar waiter/manager was curt, rude and downright unpleasant and the acting manager didn't have a clue what was going on, he looked busy but never looked at the guests' tables or at guests on his frequent marches past! We waited, on average, every day, 45 minutes just for coffee and still we had to remind staff that our order had not been taken, toast arrived no cutlery, no jam. One morning 45 minutes before the lose of breakfast NOTHING was left on the buffet table, we went without when we ere told they hadn't got any pastries etc, no museli, no yoghurt, no fruit! However, no apology or explanatio was given. I would never stay in a Macdonald Hotel again based on this and I will write to the Chairman of the Board. p.s. everyone we could hear around us were complaining audibly especially about the golf ball eggs, including mine which could not be eaten. I have a feeling higher management will not care as this seems to be the attitude handed down to the staff.

This hotel has a nice quiet location close to the lake, it is however an old property some would say has ‘character’ others would considered ‘tired’ and in need of some updating. There is no lift and no one to help with you luggage so if you get assigned a top floor room you need to carry all you belongings up the stairs. Breakfast was very average with some of the food we were served was cold. You would expect much more for the price and rating.

A bit frustrating to arrive to check in at 3pm to find that the previous room occupants had (selfishly) not checked out in time. Not the staff's fault but a bit annoying as we would have liked to get access to shower after a very wet walk.
We had a problem with a hot tap which was rapidly fixed. Meal-time service was excellent.

I cannot say due to the fact that 30 minutes before we where due to arrive, they called up to say that they took the booking by mistake and that I shouldn’t have been able to make the booking in the first place as they had no room.

This left me £280.00 out of pocket for no reason and we ended up sleeping in the car for the night as I couldn’t pay for anywhere else after that.

Yes it was a last minute booking but taking my money immediately but not letting me know until an hour after making my booking leaving us stranded is poor customer service.

I’ve still had no reply to my message asking when I can expect my refund. Expedia haven’t been able to contact them via phone after several attempts and I cannot even get them on the phone.

I never leave bad reviews but the way they have handled this is shocking. “Sorry you can’t say here”. With no guidance on how to go about getting my money back and no “Why don’t you try....”. No help at all.

We used to visit Leeming house many years ago and staying again just
Confirmed we love the setting and grounds.
I booked through Expedia a double bed but found it was a twin bedroom
but the room was lovely so we did not say anything.
Restaurant staff really nice. Although we weren't in a hurry evening meals were very slow between course's.

Beautiful old country house, views are amazing lovely walk around the grounds, comfortable lounges to sit and relax, food was lovely Corn Fed Chicken with Madeira Jus was amazing, Lamb & Chickpea Curry was so tasty and the staff were so friendly & helpful especially Sarah on reception and the restaurant staff.
Hopefully visit again.

Reflection Stay!

The hotel is in a great location; the rooms are very comfortable and the service first class.

We were a little disappointed in the standard of the evening meals and the limited choices. Breakfast was cooked to order as well as a buffet, and this was great.

Fabulous hotel and staff

Fabulous stay. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by Sarah who welcomed us and gave us a tour of the hotel, and then showed us to our room which was a free upgrade on our original booking. Really nice touch.
Breakfast was brilliant, lots of choice. Great service from everyone and very polite. The hotel itself was very clean and gave off a relaxing atmosphere.
Outstanding stay and would definitely stay again.
Stefano on check out was extremely helpful and along with Sarah really finished off what was an outstanding stay.

Disappointing

A 4 star hotel which can't feed its guests and sends them down the road to a pub for a meal does not seem very 4 star to me!
Such a shame, room was lovely, setting was great, breakfast was excellent but after driving for 7 hours, being told you have to get back in the car to get something to eat just made it all very unsatisfactory!
