Hotel Gabbia d’Oro is a true gem tucked beside Piazza delle Erbe in Verona. It’s old—very old—and that’s exactly what gives it such charm. The hotel exudes quiet elegance with just the right touch of quirk: a tiny vintage lift, oversized brass keys, and a bar that feels transported from another century.

What truly sets it apart, however, is the exceptional service. Check-in was seamless, transportation and dinner reservations were handled effortlessly, and every staff member I met was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. My room was comfortable and inviting, complete with a separate sitting area that added to its sense of calm and space.

One moment perfectly captured the spirit of the place: I had a very early flight, and as I waited in the lobby for my taxi, the doorman quietly appeared with a steaming cup of coffee and two croissants—completely unprompted. That thoughtful gesture summed up my entire stay: gracious, personal, and infused with old-world care.

A truly beautiful and memorable experience—I’d recommend it without hesitation.

Fabulous, exquisite hotel in a 17th century restored building. The entire staff from reception to the restaurant to housekeeping was the most pleasant and lovely I’ve ever encountered. It’s right in the heart of the main piazza, but it was quiet and secure, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. I hope you enjoy your stay as much as I did!

My wife and I where impressed by the vintage quality of the hotel. Excellent service and attentiveness. Excellent breakfast. Super centralized. You can walk to any restaurant or tourist location. I got some sort of allergy, maybe due to the dust. The bathroom floor was not that clean. You get water outside of the bathtub because of the small portion covered. This could become a dangerous slippery floor. The hotel should correct this item.

Really nice old hotel

I read some mixed reviews about this place but was happy to find it was excellent. The staff where exceptional, nothing was a problem. It is right in the old town and is from the 17th century so don’t expect a Hilton but it is unique and the location and staff are excellent. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

Wonderfully unique

This was our second stay at the Gabbia d'Oro and in an age of uniformity it is wonderful to stay at a hotel with it's own unique style and character.

Not only does the hotel have great style but the service is also excellent from the check-in / out process to the amazing breakfast.

5 star is wrong category for this property

Friendly staff and welcome, but we stayed in 2 small, dated rooms en-suite, which were sold as a 'junior suite'.

The standard was far from what you can expect from a property that is categorised 5 star. Bathroom has no natural light, which is OK had it been modern, but it has not been renovated for years. Would not have looked at this property, had it been categorised correctly.

Stay in a regular room for less money at LHW just around the corner and get the real 5 star experience. We paid €303.58 via Hotels.com plus €50 for valet parking. Price for LHW Due Torri Hotel on the same night was €295.00.

This is an 'old world' style hotel and the public rooms cluttered with soft furnishings. I find the practice of caging birds for human amusement unacceptable and was saddened to see two birds imprisoned in a tiny cage in the lounge. If your expectations include courteous reception staff, constructive engagement from a manager when an issue is raised, a concierge service that understands 'fine dining' and a detailed electronic version of your accounts - then this is probably the hotel for you.

Terribly maintained, musty smell throughout the hotel, old smelly furniture in the rooms. WiFi does not work. Mini-bar fridge warmer than the room. Rooms are tiny facing a run down courtyard. Poor breakfast selection. Smallest elevator in the world (built in 1999). Outrageous cost for parking. 2.5 star rating would be generous.

Very Charming/ Great location

Beautiful centrally located Hotel right off the Piazza Erbe...
One Caveat...we arrived and we checked into Room 105 which was gorgeous...a 2 room suite...however we took showers...there is no shower curtain...it's all open,,,bathroom floor gets totally soaked..
So they happily moved us next door to Room 104...a 2 room suite a little smaller than 105...but bathroom was better designed...a more enclosed shower...water not spraying everywhere...
It just depends on what you like...the rooms are different...not cookie cutter...building from the 1600s...
Overall the Hotel is Great...very nice breakfast and the Staff is very friendly...and the location is the best in Verona...

Great location.

I agree with a lot of the previous reviews. We had a junior suite on the 4th floor which was spacious and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable with good quality sheets, en-suite shower room had lots of towels. Very good buffet breakfast and we had a choice as to how we wanted our eggs. There is a Conservatory which had two colourful parrots in residence. Afternoon tea was a real treat. Fantastic helpful staff. The hotel is very close to some very good restaurants, and the sites. Would certainly go back.

Beautiful Verona, special hotel.

This is a unique hotel, it's a special experience - disctinctive décor, lovely staff, great breakfast, brilliant location (corner of Piazza Erbe). I've stayed there before and highly recommend it. My only criticism would be that the beds and pillows are very hard!

Great Historic Hotel!

I stayed only for one night. I liked everything. The staff was very helpful. The room had everything I needed. It was very quiet. Breakfast was very very good. The hotel is in the heart of historic district. The hotel itself is like a medieval museum. I loved the building - very old but made very functional for modern traveller and charming. The only note - the pillows were very uncomfortable hard. I might have got a different pillow but I was there just for one night.

Lovely hotel close to arena and square

Just love this friendly, atmospheric beautiful little hotel. This was our second visit to Verona to go to the opera at the arena and we lived it there even more than before.
The staff are Suberb, atmosmere charming and rooms beautiful old world elegant but cosy. So convenient being in the heart of the city. We have the keys to our car on arrival to the care of the hotel and walked everywhere.
Wonderful shops around the corner too!

Slightly quirky but true experience - staff from reception to concierge are best I have come across. Breakfast as good as it gets for me and my wife - mix of Italian continental, cakes, plus eggs cooked to your request.

We had the most wonderful time staying at Hotel Gabbia D'Oro. It's located right in the heart of Verona steps from marketplace and piazza. Walking distance to everything.
Apart from the fact that this is an historic building with beautiful furnishings and artifacts: the staff at Hotel Gabbia are amazing. I cannot fault this place and would highly recommend a stay here if you are heading to this beautiful city!

converted palace with nuances here and there

this hotel is not only situated perfectly in the middle of verona but was a delight to stay in. the hotel which was a previously a palace owned by a wealthy family has all these corners and rooms with full of memorabilia, very charming. the hotel personnel specially were quite helpful and were always ready to provide excellent service.

Beautiful hotel in a great location

What a delightful hotel right off the main plaza in Verona. A real gem. Our room included a sweet sitting area and a grand bathroom. The breakfast was divine with everything from custom omelettes to fresh fruit. Service was impeccable with front-desk help on purchasing train tickets and finding tourist spots. A really wonderful and memorable stay.

A luxury boutique hotel experience. Located in what appears to be an old palazzo in the city center. High tea, fabulous breakfast room. Bathrooms have been totally redone. However, space is limited, so be sure to ask for a bathroom with a separate shower if it's available. Frette robes and sheets. Etro products. Lovely!

Paradise in Verona

2 nights solo for my first time in Verona and I wanted to make sure I felt safe and comfortable. Hotel Gabbia d'Oro went beyond my expectations. I felt well treated and slept soundly. Boutique gem in centre of town

A wonderful find in the heart of Verona next to the town square. The staff are superb and nothing is too much trouble. The public rooms, full of antiques and bric a brac, are comfortable and welcoming. Breakfast buffet has good variety and quality. The room we had was a good size and very comfortable. The only thing I can find to criticise is that the pillows were a bit hard for my liking! Overall a great hotel in a perfect location for exploring Verona.

Stayed during wine tasting event that drew large crowd to city center. Loved the location, close to the square & in heart of pedestrian district. Lovely old building with nice common areas. Charming hotel just off Piazza d'Erbe. Wonderfully friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are spacious and unique, fitting the building. Clean, quiet. Breakfast was delicious and served in a beautiful room like an old Verona home. Two caveats: you can't drive to the front of the hotel yourself--staff needs to meet you and give you access to pedestrian street--and pillows are hard.

Great hotel in Verona

This hotel was well located and very nice. Staff were amazing. Breakfast could not have been better. Simply delicious. The only small issues were the noise from the square at night and that the room was a little crowd by having so many things in it. Perhaps removing a few items would give a bit more space for putting things away. The square quiets down about midnight. The bars close then and revelers who remain will be ticketed, so they suddenly depart and peace is restored. We were very happy and comfortable and would definitely return to Gabbia. The staff were fabulous!

Superb boutique hotel in excellent location

This hotel is a unique gem. It's full of interesting clutter, a pair of parrots in an Orangerie and beautiful things. The attention to detail in it's decoration is wonderful. We were provided with a suite complete with tiny balcony looking out on to the square below. The bathroom and fittings are all new and work properly,

We had three days in Verona at the Hotel Gabbia D'Oro on the end of a rally around northern Italy. They could not have been more helpful in terms of meeting our every need and making out stay as pleasurable as possible. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was very comfortable, the conservatory was an eccentrics dream, we would definitely stay there again.

Great couples get-away

This is a great place for couples looking for a quiet get-away for a few days in beautiful Verona. The hotel is ideally located in the old part of town and walking distance from great restaurants, cafes, gelaterias and all the sights. the staff we re very friendly and helpful and our room (attic room, 4th floor at the front) was utterly charming and very comfortable.
