I have enjoyed a lot. Very clean and comfortable beds. The breakfast was fresh and delicious. I also found the location for us was excellent and able to walk down the town where we had found a variety of stores, restaurants and bars. The staff were very friendly and helpful with us. Thank you to the owners for the great hospitality.

We had such a wonderful stay at Hotel Cipreses! The staff were so warm and friendly, and really made us feel at home. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the breakfast each morning was delicious and filling. They were also very accommodating with our plans, which we really appreciated. One of the highlights was the night animal tour with Ellie. It was fantastic! We saw so many animals and the kids loved it. Highly recommend this hotel for a cozy and welcoming stay in Monteverde.

Hotel Ciprese was a last minute choice for me and it was the best I could have chosen. It was clean, safe, near town, had a delicious breakfast, and the staff was excellent for recommending local events and tours and helped point me in the right direction. I would 100% stay here again!

Hotel Cipreses has a great location and was wonderful for our 1-night stay in November, extra convenient to Santa Elena Cloud Forest and Selvatura Park. We were traveling as a family with 2 teens, 2 adults and 2 grandparents and booked 2 rooms. Both rooms were spacious and clean, with a lovely enclosed balcony/porch. One note - every room’s balcony is connected (only divided by a small railing) so our teenage son was able to sneak next door and enter the other room from the balcony and scare his sister - this gave us a common sense reminder to lock the patio door!

The front desk staff was incredibly nice, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was yummy and generous with pancakes, toast, eggs, rice & beans, coffee and juice.

The only downside of our stay was a slight issue with the bathroom/plumbing. There was a pretty bad smell emanating from the drains in our bathroom. Not sure if it was just normal for the plumbing in the area or if our room had a specific issue. If we had been staying longer I would have brought it up with the staff to see if there was a possible fix. And would absolutely stay here again, and definitely recommend the hotel as a clean, friendly and safe option.

Nothing fancy but fine for the location. The biggest problem was the tile floors were dangerously slippery and they used the same tiles in the room as the shower. It was a bit noisy. The check-in lobby was a nice place to sit and enjoy the sunshine pouring in the windows. The breakfast was fine. There's nice areas outside to sit also. There's a brand new hotel next door that had a fantastic bar and restaurant. Both were GREAT. Also, Bon Appetit, a very good local Italian restaurant is a 3 minute walk away. Make reservations!! Also, it's a short but steep walk into the town of St. Elena. The front desk arranged for our guide to the Cloud Forest who was just so-so. Overall, recommend the place.

Well situated, decent place to stay to experience Monteverde. The front desk had wonderful preparation to help you learn about things to do in the area. The front desk also was very good at arranging tours, even at the last minute. I was very impressed by a restaurant recommendation they gave, which was, inexpensive, local, and delicious. The Wi-Fi worked, but not for video streaming. Plenty of parking on premise.

This is a quite, clean, small hotel. The staffs are very friendly. The garden is pretty. Our rooms are at 2nd floor, and the balconies are connected together, very convenient to sit outside. There are two ceiling lights, but I cannot turn them on at first, the room is dark with only table lights. Later I figured out there is a switch behind the curtain, I can turn one ceiling light on, the other may be broken. Anther thing you have to remember is you have to use the key to lock the door from outside or inside. The first time I left the room I didn’t locked the door, the 2nd time I stayed in room changing clothes and the door is still not locked ;-) I guess people living here are used to this kind of door locks.

Location was good but the hotel was a bit rundown. Rooms were small with just the beds, a tv and a chest with mirror. The tv was technically blocking the mirror. Water was barely warm and there were stray dogs in the property all the time. For the money we paid we expected a better room with ameneties..

Very spartan room. It’s clean and was insect free but the door rattled with every gust of wind. We were only here one night but were able to do a night tour and then early morning tour of the nearby parks. Keep in mind you’re staying at an inexpensive room in a jungle and don’t expect this to be a luxurious room. Bring shampoo and soap!

Comfortable stay near downtown Santa Elena

This a lovely hotel located within a short walk to the little town of Santa Elena. We had a nice view of the mountains from the window and enjoyed the typical Costa Rican breakfast each morning. The room was fairly basic, but bed was comfortable and there was extra space on the side of the room to store our suitcases. Staff was very welcoming and friendly. We were able to book a last minute night walk with them for that night. Room was clean and property was quiet. Parking on site.

It's true what the reviews says that the walls are very thin, but people are respectful and there was no noise after 10pm.

You can hear everything in the hotel rooms to the point where you can hear the conversations and every word that is being said in addition to the car noise outside. You can also tell that there is mold growing in the corners and near the shower from water leaks. The largest problem we had was that we asked if they could call a taxi for us early in the morning to make it to our next destination and there was no taxi or staff to assist. We figured it out ourselves luckily, but were extremely frustrated after a terrible stay from extremely noisy neighbors and traffic and that being the cherry on top. Two positives are that the staff seem friendly though some of them speak limited English so make sure your Spanish is okay and that they promptly fixed the patio door lock as it was broken when we got in. We strongly regretted not paying more and staying elsewhere.

Hotel Cipreses is a very nice eco friendly hotel with beautiful grounds and neat rooms. The staff is very helpful and the included free breakfast is a nice benefit. Internet was not good in my room, so I was forced to book my next hotel in the lobby. People should know that this hotel is about 300ft above and a 1/2 mile walk to the main town of Monteverde, if they want to visit a restaurant or bar. I found the walk is something you only want to do once a day. Also Monteverde is very windy.

Our experience was great! The receptionist helped us book a night tour in which we saw many different types of animals. Their breakfast is a good typical Costa Rica breakfast of pinto, eggs, and an assortment of fruits. They also have a night guard which is a great addition for feeling secure.

The hotel is conveniently located close to both the town with restaurants and shopping and many rainforest exploration/adventure locations. The rooms are very nice and cozy, and the hotel itself has a lot of character. Although the greatest part of my experience was the staff at the hotel, they were amazingly helpful in booking events, transportation, with translating and made our experience so much more relaxed and enjoyable.

Decent hotel slightly off Santa Elena centre

I had a very comfortable three nights here; about the hotel itself there was nothing I could recall that was negative. The only minor detraction was that when I chose the hotel, the maps suggested it was a short walk to the centre... and it is, but what the maps didn't show was how steep the incline was (I'd say it hit 30 degrees in stretches). I shouldn't complain since I was in Monteverde for hiking anyway, but I can see how the extra uphill and downhill might not suit everyone.

A Unique Place with a Different Ambiance

Staying at Cipreses Hotel after driving for more than 3 hours on a bumpy, long and winding road from from La Fortuna was not worth at all. In order to give justice to hard driving, one deserves to stay in Monteverde for more than 2 days. A small city but a lot of activities going on. The Hanging Bridge and the Tram were exciting! There was a special discount when we bought our tickets for these 2 activities for a price of 1. Very considerate. The eating in the plaza was fantastic. The ambiance is very different. I wanted to go there, drink coffee there and do other things unfortunately we could not do - we have no time. The hotel is in the center of all of these actions. I feel this is an isolated place as it is far from the main highway. You have to drive long in getting in and driving back the same road in going back.

Cozy and Quaint

Spent a night at Hotel Cipreses after our Sky Adventures experience as we had a long drive to face the next day. This bed and breakfast is highly recommended as the facilities provided all that was needed for the night stay. Hotel staff are very professional and breakfast is a must. Special shout out to Jenny. She is great!!

Nice place, but not for large families

I have no complaints about the hotel itself - it was beautiful, clean, and comfortable. Breakfast was great; lots of delicious choices and plenty of food. The staff was great and very helpful. However, there is a big problem with description of the room on Hotels.com. It was described as having room to sleep 6, so we booked the one room for our family of 6. When we arrived, though, the staff was surprised at the size of our family and told us the room only sleeps 4 or 5. We looked at the room and found that even 4 would be a squeeze. So, we were stuck and had to book a second room (at a discounted rate) in order to be able to stay there. Very disappointed in Hotels.com and I will be contacting them about this.

Much left to be desired

First off, this hotel is in a good area if you're visiting Monteverde because it is a short walk to all the local attractions. Check in was easy. The room was simply ok and the free breakfast left much to be desired. This was merely a place to sleep but you get what you pay for. I wouldn't recommend this for a long stay.

Nice clean hotel about a 10 minute stroll from downtown for dinning and other needs. Free Wi-Fi and breakfast was a plus. Staff was helpful in confirming our rides to a couple of tours as we didn't have a car and needed door to door service. They had no problem lending me a knife and corkscrew so that I could prepare the mangos and wine purchased in town. Wish they had a pool as when not on tour, down time in Costa Rica isn't easily filled by inexpensive hikes or local diversions.

Good bargain, great staff

We were really pleased with our stay at Cipreses. The room was clean, the service of the desk staff was excellent and the breakfast was very good. And the price was a real bargain. The walk to town is short but difficult for an older person (like me) but the taxi ride is quick and just $2. The front desk staff set up tours for us and called the taxi whenever we needed it. We will definitely return and recommend it.

Great breakfast....showers were lacking!

They have a sign in the shower citing a 5 minute shower limit....we had NO hot water - luke-warm at best (room #29). We also heard other guests talking/complaining about the lack of hot water during breakfast. BTW, their breakfast buffet is great!! It is a shame they don't utilize the restaurant for lunch and/or dinner. Additionally, our toilet wouldn't flush properly - we had to fill the trash can with water and dump the water into the toilet in order to properly flush the the toilet. We didn't have them look at it because we didn't want the hassle - just wanted to relax.

Great staff, great location and great price

Considering you are in the middle of the rain forest, this is a great little hotel to get to. It is located walking distance to Santa Elena's downtown and if you have a car, the road to go up to Santa Elena Reserve and Selvatura is a block away and you are about the same distance from Monteverde Reserve as you are from Santa Elenas Reserve.

Great hotel. Very comfortable, safe and a great breakfast each day. Only issue is you can easily hear noise from the other rooms but as long as you use a white noise maker you won't hear anything.
Most of the roads are dirt so I would advise getting an all wheel drive vehicle if you go to this town.
Awesome Ziplining in this town. The tarzan swing is a must!

Mediocre accommodations in Santa Elena

The receptionist was very helpful and the breakfast was good. The environs were nice as well. However, the room itself was lousy. There was a very funky smell in the room. Super thin sheets and lumpy pillows. One light of two didn't work and the sliding patio door didn't lock properly. I could not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Overall we had a good stay in the small town of Monteverde. The walls are quite thin at this hotel and it is cold in the rooms at night so make sure you bring ear plugs and warm pj's. (The wind blows under the door we found). Overall the staff was extremely helpful in helping us plan activities. The breakfast was also great, and it was convenient that it was included in the price of the room!

The check in was quick and friendly . The room was basic but clean with good hot water. The grounds were clean and nicely maintained ( there was a sloth in one of the trees when we checked in ) . The breakfast was buffet style - eggs , rice and beans , French toast , pancakes and various fresh fruits, coffee and juice . It is a short 7 to 10 minute walk to town downhill .

The hotel is set in pretty gardens a few minutes from the centre of Santa Elena. We saw a sloth in the gardens. The bathroom and hot water provision was very good and the breakfast was excellent. It was cold and windy when we were there so it would have been good to have the option of some heating in the room.

Hotel Cipreses was a very nice hotel nestled in the Monteverde forest. It had a great view on the mountainside, and we even had a 2 toed- sloth in a tree nearby watching over us! The staff was really friendly and the hotel very affordable!
It was a hilly walk into town but that added to the charm.

Close to town

This is not the Hilton but the Drive to Monteverde is spectacular the hotel is fine for the price. The staff are very friendly and helpful. You are close to town and that makes it easy to get to all the attractions. Breakfast was fine. Rooms are basic but clean no a/c but it is cool at night.

Hotel Cipreses was comfortable and clean, with a great breakfast! Receptionists were very helpful, and called taxis, described sites to us. The gardens and view from our room were very lovely.

Barking dogs with surround sounds !!!!

It was difficult to find any thing decent in Monteverde. This was the best place I could find and it still sucked. This place had the neighbors dogs barking in front of us, behind us, and to the side of us!!! I told management about it but they said there was nothing they could do because the dogs belong to the residents on private property. Fortunately, we were all very tired from traveling so we slept thru most of it. But, light sleepers beware!!!
The roads to get to Monteverde was pure h*** because it's narrow, uneven and rocky. But, the phenomenal zip lining made it all worthwhile.

Great Family run Hotel

It was a great experience staying for one night. The family who runs this hotel and their employees are very kind and courteous. They accommodated all 17 of our family and friends for one night and were very helpful in arranging our trips too. Morning Breakfast was good and they allowed us to use their restaurant for making coffee, even after checking out !!!

Lovely property, Great Staff

We fully enjoyed our stay at this hotel. My wife,daughter and I spent three nights here. We were very happy with the accommodations as well as the included breakfast. The front office staff made all of our arrangements for tours. We were happy with their recommendations.

The staff is beyond accommodating. They will help book tours and find anything you need. And the two toed sloth that lives above the hotel is a nice touch.

It is all relative

we have compared several hotels nearby. This one is relatively OK. It is close to town center by walking distance. There are other ones with better review, but far away from town. The room is not sound proof. I can hear clearly unpleasant sound from bathroom of next room. Our own bath room has a stinky smell from sewage. Shower water is like drizzle down.
Breakfast is very simple, like egg + pancake + fruit for everybody.

A convenient hotel away from the town

We stayed for three days. The hotel was very basic, but very clean with a wonderful balcony and a resident sloth that was very active one one afternoon. Staff booked a night walk for us on their property a short distance from the hotel. The walk into town is downhill and takes about 15 minutes. But for us, taking a cab back was necessary. Our only complaint about the hotel is that the walls are very thin and we could hear one neighbor snore, the neighboring TV, etc. also, as there are houses in the neighborhood, there were many dogs that barked a lot!
The staff was fantastic, the included breakfast, substantial...we would stay here again!
We did walk at dawn to see the Quetzal! Night walk was perfect, Sky Trek, hanging bridges and zip lining all so much fun.

Nice Hotel

This was the perfect hotel for our quick stop in Monteverde. All we needed was a clean room with a nice bed to sleep in and a good breakfast. Sabor Taco was an excellent dinner choice (we ate at the one that is not in the mall area).

Great place for Santa Elena/Monteverde

While this isn't the top line hotel in the area, it was more than adequate for our stay in the Monteverde area to see the world famous Cloud Forest Preserve. WE enjoyed our rooms, with a nice balcony overlooking the mountains. The staff were friendly and the rooms were clean. We found the water to warm in the shower, but not a lot of pressure. The other couple complained that the tile in their shower was very slick. Overall we enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would have no problem return to it again.

Decent but noisy

Stayed two nights here and didn't sleep very well. The hotel had paper thin walls and doors. We could hear the people talking in the room next to us and the people playing music downstairs. The staff was really nice but I wouldn't stay here again. The water in the hotel wasn't hot enough for a comfortable shower either.
