Had a great rate there, very good service and nice that you can use the facilities of Novotel. The beds are a little bit too soft, could be firmer. The gym is nice, but it is too hot. investment is needed in better airconditioning. breakfast is decent, but could do with better coffee and muesli.

The staff was amazing. Super friendly, made me feel at home. In honor of my gracious hosts I purchased the local attire and they loved it and made me feel so welcome at home, BENIN 🇧🇯 truly is a very nice place to visit. I’ll be back again.

Great Value and Facilities in Cotonou

Ibis is always a reliable go to hotel when you’re looking for great value.
The Ibis in Cotonou, although showing some wear and tear is still great value and it is clean with great service.
Because you also have access to the Novotel pool and on site gym facilities you will lack nothing.

Ibis had the only availability in my companies range. I have stayed in Ibis elsewhere and was satisfied. The staff was nice and polite but the hotel is old and the rooms smell of mold. The breakfast is very basic and the water pressure and temperature is up and down. The only plus is that since it’s owned by Novotel (which is next door) you can go over and use their facilities and dine. Mold in rooms. Mini fridge leaking water in floor. The employees are doing the best they can but this hotel badly needs renovation.

The Ibis Hotel Cotonou is an Accor hotel. It is basic and relatively cheap. It offers breakfast but otherwise dinning options are limited. The staff on duty on arrival were rather indifferent and offhand - although staff rostered on subsequent days were pleasant to deal with. The rooms are quite small and lack facilities such as free tea and coffee, tissues and bottled water. After eating their food I suffered from stomach pains and diarrhea for three days. I had two subsequent one day bookings at the Ibis in August which I then cancelled. The bookings were via Expedia who advised that the money I paid would not be refunded as a result of Accor policies - and this was despite the fact that the two days and more were booked at another more expensive Accor hotel (so Accor got my money twice). I would not advise travelers to avoid the Ibis as there were some positives but do not expect more than a basic service.

They charge bogus fee.
My business partner was charged 20,000cfa in April claiming they did not receive payment from expedia. When asked for explanation and provided booking confirmation, he was told that he will be refunded when the hotel manager returns.
Hotel manager is never on duty.
I also booked in june and was also charged 8,500cfa but i was able to get mine refunded.
When i enquired about the 20,000, i was told manager was not on duty. My contact information was taken and promised to contact me, they never did. On my way back to the state, i stop by to asked for the refund and was told manager not on duty.
It seems there is a scheme between the staff to extort money from tourists.
I have never been to an hotel that an hotel manager is never on duty except iblis cotonou

Great place at value. Next to the beach and offer a nice hot breakfast buffet. Comfortable bed and perfect for a business overnight stay or someone wanted just some quiet and frequent walks to the beach. The only thing is I thought I was paying all of the taxes through Expedia. I had to pay the hotel tax. Not sure if this was accurate. I questioned but did not fully dispute it during check out.

I booked a double room with one double bed and one twine bed. But when I arrived there today, the staff said they only have one bed room which named standard room. But I showed the reservation record of expedia website to them, it clearly there as I booked. It’s terrible thing that never happened before. I have to complain it.

It shouldn't take 3 men half an hour to check me into the hotel, particularly late at night when I have been travelling for 33 hours. Rooms are small and there is no hot water. Even in Africa that is not acceptable.

Hotel was good, as to be expected. The staff were helpful.
Just one note, but I found out it's a common practice in Benin, when sending your clothes to the cleaners, they will staple tags (with two staples) through the cloth. For my jacket they stapled through the inside coat pocket. And for my pants they staple through the inside zipper flap.

Hotel provides soap (one stop shop for hair, face, and body) and no other immensities. So bring your own.
The personnel were very cordial, polite, and helpful.
If you need to print anything, the hotel charges 500 CFA (~$1) per black and white page. However, checking with other hotels, this is a pretty standard charge.
Breakfast was nothing special, but there's plenty of local fruits and yogurt. As well as local pastries. The 'hot' section seemed to be all packaged food: canned beans, powdered eggs, etc. And the coffee is instant, though you can buy half-decent espresso from the bar.
Rooms were clean, beds comfortable (a wee bit on the soft side, but not too soft). All in all, it was a pleasant stay and what I expected. I was neither wowed nor disappointed.

Easy choice for a couple of days stay

Novotel and ibis are housed in the same compound. American embassy is right opposite the hotel. Main boulevard with best restaurants in town just five mins drive away.
Room and service is predictable and meets expectation. The toilet is cramped but is ok for couple of days visit. Found carpet in my room a bit wet on one side....but on previous several stays this hasn't been a problem. Breakfast is included and wifi is free. Will recommend.

The rooms are small but comfortable for a short stay. The internet speed is amazing and comes well inside the room (a new in Benin) where even good hotels also have internet working well in certain parts of the hotel. Food options are very limited at IBIS and you need to go to next door Novotel if you wish to have more than a snack. Breakfast is limited but decent. Overall a good hotel to stay for short duration..

I have stayed in other Ibis hotels and booked it as a first stop after a 23 hour flight from California, I booked it just because it WAS predictable even down to decor and soap. That is not a bad thing. The use of the grounds and the stumming pool next door were a plus as was the generous complimentary breakfast. Unusual for an Ibis. The only negitive is that there is nothing within walkable distance and taxis from the hotel are outragiously expensive by Benin standards and will allow little bargaining. Felt a bit trapped in a beautiful compound without my own transport!

The room was tiny, bed constructeion mounted on board suspended on 6 pieces of round legs. Mattress was uncomfortable. 2 pillows size about 30mm. Only one bath towel. When requested reception to assist was informed house keeping was closed and will o nay be attended to in the morning. We did arrive around 8pm. Only received one more towel.

Never Again!

Here is what you WILL get: very small rooms, AC that works, free transport to and from the airport, free internet (works good in room, but slow in public areas), boring tasteless breakfast buffet, clean rooms (except for the filthy room carpets), a restaurant that usually runs out of hot food at night (so you are stuck with a couple cold menu choices), non-smoking bar/restaurant area, Terrible Currency Exchange Rate slow checkout and check-in procedure, tiny closet area, plenty of hot water.

Here is what you will NOT get and should not expect: fast service, friendly staff, reasonable prices, in room safe, refrigerator, hot water pot, Do Not Disturb or Clean my room signs, Room Service (they often have no one to bring your order to your room, so you have to go down and get it yourself).

In addition, don't expect to get a porter to help with your baggage. Even though I was injured and using a cane, I was told I would have to bring down my suitcases alone. When I finally wrestled my luggage down to the lobby, there were 4 people (including the Desk Manager) just standing around talking and they refused to help!

You are on the same grounds as the Novotel Hotel, so you have a short, safe walk to better food and bar selections. However the beer prices at the Novotel are 50% higher than at the Ibis. Swimming pool is also located at the Novotel.

The cost to print any documents from their printer is 500 CFA per page.

Good value, clean rooms, but not great service

The Ibis is a newer hotel in Cotonou than its next door neighbor Novotel. The rooms are more modern and neater, but smaller with no safe or minibar. No room service either. You must go pick up your order yourself. The reception is not good in person or on the phone. The first time I ordered something the guy asked me to write down the order myself because he was busy! Several of my calls from abroad were either not connected or were unnecessarily screened, which annoyed my callers. The hotel is next door to the Novotel, which is overpriced for the rooms they offer. The Novotel's restaurant is one of the better ones in Cotonou and has the best lunch buffet. For dinner we often walked to the nearby Marina Hotel to eat at their more pleasant outdoor restaurant. Ibis does not have a proper meeting area either, so most of my meetings were at the Novotel bar/lounge, which is comfortable but noxious from all the smoking. Breakfast at Ibis is pretty good, except for the coffee. Overall, Ibis rooms were clean and in excellent condition, but the service is subpar.

Good for Transit

I stayed here whilst in transit overnight in Cotonou - this was a good option. Clean, with free shuttle and only 5 mins from the airport, good option if you're doing the same. Free wifi for 24hrs (but very slow), free pick up/drop off, buffet breakfast included (think airplane food) - still I think the hotel is overpriced, and beware of customs in Benin, they will try take extra CFA on arrival. You can walk to the beach from the hotel. All in all a convenient and comfortable option - if staying as a tourist i'd look somewhere else though, business and transit travellers recommended for it's location, cleanliness and ease.

Cet hôtel 3* a la patine du temps et est très bien situé. Personnel compétent et sympathique. Excellent rapport qualité-prix comme toujours avec cette chaîne hôtelière. Pour plus de luxe, le Novotel est adjacent. Le prix est en conséquence.

The room was very hot, as the air conditioning was poorly working. The check in staff was apparently unfriendly. We had to request to have bath towels as it wasn’t prepared. The toilet paper wasn’t prepared enough and there was no extra so that we had to use our own. We recommend not to stay here.
