Air ducts (all 3) in the ceiling were blackened. (mold?). When I mentioned this to the front desk staff, I was told that maintenance would look into it. Very surprised, in a place that claims to be a premier resort, that this had not been noticed/addressed previously.

Great place to stay just east of Burlington. We visited Stowe and Smugglers Notch, and found the pool and spa to be really lovely and open late (and early). The men’s sauna seemed not hot enough, and the steam room needed repair, so I’d look forward to having these in full service.

The room was beautiful and the check-in/checkout was very easy. The restaurant food was amazing, but it would be great if there was a way guests at the hotel could get seated instead of having to go elsewhere. The pool was lovely however the locker room was not well cleaned. The grounds looked like they would be beautiful in warmer weather.

Room was excellent. Staff was even better! I had booked a room that had a rattling noise in the HVAC SYSTEM. Staff moved us to a beautiful and quiet room. Very good service! Can’t wait to get back.

There were issues with power at the facility and heat and our room that were challenging but out of staffs control. What was disappointing was lack of understanding/empathy of staff in the morning. No real concern over room with no heat. No coffee ready in the lobby in the morning. We have stayed at the resort numerous times over the last few years and were planning on booking a block of rooms for our sons graduation in 2027 while we were there this weekend but were not excited to do that this morning.

Worst hotel experience in years. I stay in multiple hotels a month, this hotel at one point was nice. It’s not damp, smelly and because it has vinyls windows and an old heating system the rooms in the wing had no heat on a -7 day. Three blankets and the fireplace on and I had to sleep in my winter jacket. There were multiple guests at the seat @6 am checking out

Also the room had no hot water

The property was tired. It needs a refresh. The furniture in my suite reminded me of a college dormitory. Scratches were on the table. The windows blinds were inconsistent (different styles) and the blinds in my bedroom didn’t fully cover the window (the bottom 1/3 of my window was visible).

It’s complicated. Food & Beverage is 5 star! Chef Chris at the Junction creates culinary magic and his staff provides 5 star service! The ambience at the Junction is wonderful from the ceiling with place settings to the artwork handmade regularly. If you’re a foodie it’s a must go to place! The rest of the resort/spa is average and I would give it 3 stars. The building and rooms are showing their age and wear spots are showing up throughout. Carpeting, damage on walls, flooring lifting up etc. The bathrooms in the rooms are small with little shelf space. The Spa was not up to standards I have received in other places. You have to walk outside to get to it and currently it’s single digit temperatures. A separate jacuzzi is not inside the spa and you need to use the one outside that all guests use. Some of the services like reclining chairs in the waiting area with relaxing music didn’t appear to be available. Likewise they didn’t have tea or fruit juice or snacks provided. When I decided to cancel as they didn’t have much of what I wanted I was informed that I would be charged regardless. I had just made the appointment the night before too. Also the room I was given was opposite the ice machine which was noisy and kept me awake at times. So service for the non food and beverage was disappointing and the facility looks to be requiring some attention. Overall for the whole it seems being a resort/spa and not just a hotel I would give it a 3.5 star rating.

Great experience staying at this hotel. They take it to the next level in your culinary experience. Amazing food and service. Has other amenities you look for in a high end resort as well. The rooms were like staying in a bed and breakfast environment with the top notch resort amenities. Service was excellent as well. My only small disappointment was the bathrooms were a little small. Seemed to be for a smaller than average person. Hard to have two people share that bathroom given that size. I understand other rooms have different configurations though.

There are plenty of other restaurants in the area that are good. Other than that, if you want a wonderful nights sleep and fantastic tub, this will be perfect.

The hotel was nice and the staff was friendly. Two restaurants on property which were good . They charged $29 a day resort fee and I have no idea what you get for the money. The spa is open to the public, which is fine, but why am I paying fee for that access. Pool was closed for the season, tennis courts were in disarray. Another hotel gouging their guest with nonsensical resort fees. We would not stay there again.

Visually the resort is stunning, the grounds are beautiful, the attention to detail remarkable and the pool/spa area is amazing. The food in The Lazy Goat was really good especially the Maple Rosemary Chicken Wings.

However, the elevator in our building (The Mansion) was broken, we were on the second floor and they did offer to help with our bags. The ice machine was also out of commision and the lobby door needed a little TLC to spruce up the area. It's a little odd that there is no dedicated reception area, I wasn't sure where to go to check in then realised check in is at the same counter as the coffee and pastries.

Overall we absolutely loved our stay and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to relax and rejuvinate.

This \"resort\" is in need of an update. Bathrooms, beds and furnishings all dated and uncomfortable. Old style bath tub with plastic curtain circa 2000. We only ate at the Tavern once. Mediocre at best. Food not hot etc. Located about 20 minutes from downtown Burlington depending on traffic.

A resort fee of $30/night/room left a lasting impression. We won't be back.

The property is very clean and the staff is excellent, always have a smile and very friendly and helpful.
Our bedroom space was very clean, attractive but the bed was too hard and the pillows felt like they were filled with cement. the bathroom was a disappointment. There was a large area of rust around the bathtub drain, a turnoff for someone who likes baths. The bathroom door was so swollen that it was extremely hard to shut. The pedestal sink is sweet but there’s no place to put anything. The toilet most often doesn’t flush adequately. We didn’t use any services when we were there.
The location of the facility is attractive and it was quiet. I was able to walk in the nearby neighborhood.

The hotel called us and ask us to switch rooms the day before our visit, as we were in a handicapped accessible room. We did, and the room they switched us to was directly overlooking the delivery area. All morning from 7 AM on all we heard was trucks constantly beeping as they backed in and doors slamming. Really ruined the whole experience. Bed was lop sided as well.

Relaxing stay post friend wedding

Wife and I came for a wedding and stayed here after for a few days in Vermont. The Essex Resort was a great home base for our travel, it felt so peaceful and the staff was beyond friendly.

We felt taken care of during a time we wanted rest. We ate at Lazy Goat Tavern, walked the resort, and enjoyed the hot tub in our room (not all rooms have this).

It was in the middle of nowhere.
Dining was very limited. The Goat Tavern opened and closed during the day. It was not open all day. Their other restaurant The Junction only opened on Friday and Saturday evenings. We drove to nearby restaurants and found many of them closed most of the week and/or opened from Thursdays thru Saturdays.
We ended getting food from the deli at the nearby grocery store. We did drive to Burlington, Vermont a few miles away. We were going to take a lunch cruise on the Spirit of Ethan Allen. Once we got there the ticket office said the cruise was canceled due to the weather. We went back the next day again and it was canceled again except for the evening cruise. The Essex Resort and Spa is good for events and/or conferences on site. Otherwise, I would recommend staying in Burlington or South Burlington, Vermont.

Overall enjoyed our stay. Hot tub wasn't working this morning. Noticed the pool area could use a very deep cleaning. Windows in pool area were very dirty and very dirty around the sills. No hooks in our bathroom. It's a spa...you have wet swim suits to hang and bathrobes, which we thought was strange. Overall we enjoyed and would return, but thought the price was a bit much for the room that we had.
