Amazing location. Right next to public transport. Less than 15-20 minute walk to the centre of Osaka. Great amenities surrounding the hotel, shops, grocery stores, convenience stores, laundry, fast casual, fadt foid and high end eateries. Highly recommend the hotel.

The pictures and reviews did not properly represent the room we were staying in. The room was incredibly small as was the bathroom facilities which when we've paid quite a lot stay here, we expect a level of quality that unfortunately was just not there. The room that we were staying in was deemed as a Smoking Room, we are not smokers, and this made our stay worse. The room was so smelly, the smoke from previous guests was stuck to all the walls and furnishings which I can't imagine is pleasant even for smokers, maybe consider an outdoor smoking area instead? Staff were very friendly and tried to help where they could but I do feel like maybe there was a small language barrier issue.

Walkable from the JR station (15min or take a bus (5min Ride).This hotel is located by the subway station ~2 min walk distance. Everything was clean and convenient (laundry room in premises) but the AC did not work in the room. The hotel is older but it is priced accordingly. It was worth the stay to get around and visit tourists areas in Osaka. For a budget friendly stay it was great!

The Frown Hotel Namba

We arrived there around 2 had to wait till exactly 3 to check-in. The bed was extremely small for two people so we were very uncomfortable the whole time. Everything seemed like it hadn't been cleaned properly and felt dingy. The bathroom was tiny and had a terrible smell the whole time we were there. The breakfast was bare bones and bad. The location wasn't even worth while since we had to take the subway to get to dotonburi everyday since there is nothing around the hotel. The costs add up every time so you're spending more money just to get around and find a decent breakfast. I would highly recommend staying somewhere else since the price is not worth cutting corners for comfort and cleanliness.

I only booked this hotel because the other hotels within a reasonable budget had booked out due to the busy cherry blossom season. The room, bed and bathroom were tiny, even for Japan. Could barely turn around in the bathroom. My partner hit his head on the towel rack when getting off the toilet and I nearly knocked the sink off the wall while attempting to get in the shower (we're not big people ourselves). Although I think there are rooms that are bigger than ours, but we didn't have an option as it was almost fully booked.
Breakfast included various Japanese food such as fish, rice, soup and tjen eggs and other meat, which was cold as it wasn't kept in a bain marie.
Showers in shared bath are traditional Japanese and were lovely. Natural hot spa was also lovely. Women could use this from 1700-2100 and men from 2115 until 0100. Bathrooms had toothbrushes, shavers, a comb, cotton tips and a hair dryer, which was convenient.
Very close to train stations, but JR stations were either a 15 minute walk in either direction.
Approximately 20 minute walk to Dotonbori. Given that this hotel was called Smile Hotel Namba, it would've been nice to have actually been located IN Namba. I knew this when booking as I'd done my research, but for those who book without looking too much into it, be aware that it's not right in the middle of Namba and it will take you at least 15-20 minutes to walk to areas with good food, shopping and nightlife, such as Namba and Dotonbori.

A smile is worth a thousand words..

Upon arriving, found out that my luggage did not get here yet..so front desk Morimoto asked for my receipt and asked Japan postal for me. Found out my name was not on label but I got my luggage later that nite. Front desk speaks enough English for me..only wish their name on nametag was in English. Kohei always greeted me upon arriving. Breakfast was Japanese style so some Westerners may not like it, but I love This kind of food, was healthy and delicious. There was always coffee and hot tea! Room was quiet and comfortable but the maid came in twice on different days while I was in the shower. I know I put the sign out! I am glad that I had 2 pillows instead of one. Hotel was hard to find on a rainy day, and really no restaurant around except Royal Host plus a Coffee Shop but it closes early. Maybe some of you want to go to Dotombori Street. I come to Japan to see old friends and eat this healthy cuisine

Our holiday was ruined by rude hotel staff!

Upon entering 'SMILE Hotel' we thought it ironic that we were greeted by the coldest and rudest staff we have ever met in Japan! We travel to Japan on a yearly basis, and have met plenty of locals who have always showed us a good time and delivered impeccable customer service. We can't say the same about the staff at SMILE.

The staff on concierge were incredibly rude to me and my group of friends during our stay. Not once were we greeted in a friendly or helpful manner. One of our friends didn't know how to use the washing machine and instead of helping us, the lady at the concierge laughed at her sarcastically and refused to help.

During our stay, we had removed the key from its bulky packaging and left it in the room. One of the cleaners must have taken the packaging back to reception. Upon checking out and returning our key, the lady at the concierge gave me a rude look before fetching a male colleague who physically tried to intimidate me! He came up really close, and started waving the key's original packaging in my face, and yelling \"WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY!?\" He was making such a scene that everyone in the lobby looked our way. I was completely taken back by his rudeness, and had to tell him to back off.

I am still in shock that we received such rude customer service at a hotel that received such a high rating on Expedia. We will never return and can't recommend this hotel to anyone based on the experience we had with the staff there. What a shame!

This is a hotel to use for 1 to 2 nights in Osaka. There are no thrills here but it is located near a metro entrance and has breakfast. Not as tiny as a lot of Japanese hotels but definitely a budget hotel.

I wouldn't stay here again . Small couldn't even open suitcase had to put it on the bed bed . Bathroom was so compact if you were tall you would bump your head and ziti tying on toilet your knees would hit the door . And sleep you get none as room was on road front . No double glazed so to keep noise out breakfast stop 9 am out by 10 terrible plus staff don't speak any English at all so no help

This hotel is a bit far from the town. It is located one more stop (sakuragawa) from Namba by subway. When you first arrive with luggage, make use the exit no 2 from Hankyu rail tram,it is the nearest exit with escalator.

The room is squishy small. Really. Prior to booking, expedia says it's good for 3 pax. After I paid, it went to one. I could only managed up to 2 pax only. When we asked for an extra bed, hotel staff said they do not have it, that we should call expedia instead.

Before our departure, we asked if we could borrow their weighing scale. As soon as brought down our luggage, another staff refused. He said that we should go to airport instead because their weighing scale is intended for boxes (packages) only.

Staff were not really accommodating at all. They always give us cold shoulders whenever we asked for help.

Breakfast was terrible. We could only eat bread and butter, but I like their unli coffee the most.

I would suggest my fellow travelers to book a hotel along Shinsaibashi and Yodobashi areas. Though, it's a two minute walk to the station, fare is a quite pricey. Also, for my return trip, I would not booked at this hotel anymore.

Average stay in summary. Clean, free wifi, sufficient for a 3 night stay. Bathroom is very tiny even for Japanese standard. Breakfast is Japanese food, and offered free for guests so nothing to complain.
Location is closer to Sakuragawa station Hanshin line compared to Sennichimae line. One station away from Namba, but probably better to stay in Namba itself for extra convenience. Neighbourhood is quiet.

Hotel is close to a Metro station and only 1 stop away from Namba. Staff's very helpful and those we dealt with spoke English very well. We were allowed to check in half an hour early when we arrived, and a taxi was booked for us when we enquired about getting one to take us and our luggage to the station in Namba, and the taxi was waiting for us when we came down to check out. Breakfasts were provided and were adequate, though the Japanese breakfast was better than the western-style one.

Right above the train Station, conveniently connect to everywhere of Osaka. we stayed four nights but the WIFI is not working until our last day of stayed, a bit disappointed. The public bath really helped after a whole day walked. Nearby are supermarket and few local restaurant which you can have local meals rather than those tourist spots. The only draw back is the breakfast which is very limited and pretty average. Staff speak limited English. Overall I enjoyed stay in this Hotel because it is only one stop away from Namba.

room is tiny in American standards but that's to be expected in Japan. Overall, our
stay was pleasant and enjoyable. The continental breakfast was a pleasant surprise
cause they had a lot of choices and the food was fresh and tasty.
It would have made the stay even better if the staff spoke a little English.

Great hotel for a couple of nights stay. It's close to the subway and really clean. The staff were a little indifferent compared to other places in Japan, but still ok to deal with. Breakfast was decent. It's not close to any 'hot spots', but it's only one stop away from bustling Namba and close enough to walk to (about 2kms). The bathroom was tiny, but I stayed at another hotel and the bathroom was the same size, so it might be standard size for this quality of hotel.

Was upgraded to a non-smoking small double room, while my original booking was for a smoking single (non-smoking wasn't available online). Check-in was quick and the staff were courteous. Room was tiny and the bathroom was tinier - smallest in all my hotel stays around Japan so far. But, for the rate I paid that included breakfast and as a single traveler who just returned to the room to crash, I couldn't ask for more. There were other nice add ons like coffee and hot/cold water 24*7 at the lobby and staying on the lower floors right above the lobby, my phone was able to pick up some free wi-fi signals as well! The breakfast looked like a good spead, but being vegetarian, the only choice I had was some bread.

Nice budget hotel one stop from downtown Namba.

I have stayed in a few budget hotels in Osaka area, and this has been the best for me so far. It has good wifi and ethernet in the rooms, decent sized beds and a small but functional bathroom and shower. Overall it was just what I needed.

Less than 100 rooms in total. As usual, the room size is \"standard\" in this type of hotel in Japan of less than 150 sq ft. The room is clean but the toilet is mini. Two subways are right next to it with less than 3 minutes walk. 1 station away from Namba (bus terminal and train station to airport) and right there, 1000+ shops are around.

Hotel was SUPER comfortable and impeccably clean. I was really pleased with the room considering we got such a good price! We paid the same as we would have paid for 2 beds in a hostel dorm. Staff was very friendly and the free breakfast was delicious. 24 hour coffee…. small perks that really make you feel good :) Close to metro… you can even walk to main Namba area (if you like walking a lot) I would absolutely stay here again!

Cheap and convenient. very near to the Sakuragawa Hanshin Station. Good wifi in room. Room is clean (though I note that the cups were not cleaned for 1 day). Bathroom is too small. I can hardly stand before the basin. If you can choose, please select room with even room no (say room 408). It seems the room is larger from the escape route plan. I cant enjoy the public bathroom as the serving time for ladies ends at 9pm. Overall service is good. Staff are very helpful.

Not bad for Osaka

Osaka is an expensive city in general. This hotel was pretty ok. Rooms were really small for 2 people. For 1, it would be alright. Bathrooms were excruciatingly small. Everywhere we moved, we hit something and we are pretty small sized. One tip to get to the hotel is to take the Hanshin Line from Namba to Sakuragawa Station and take Exit 2 and the hotel is like 30 seconds (or less) walk down the road. If you decided to take the pink subway line to Sakuragawa, walk all the way to the Hanshin Line and take Exit 2. DO NOT take Exit 2 of Sakuragawa pink subway line. We did that and got totally lost. Just walk all the way underground to the Hanshin Line and voila, Smile Hotel :) One thing to note is that, there isn't much in this neighbourhood althought it is located in the city. Buy your water or etc before going back to the hotel or there is a 24/7 cold water dispenser, hot soup and coffee at the cafe where you get your breakfast

Convenient Hotel - Great Breakfast

We really enjoyed our stay at Smile Hotel Namba. The entrance to the hotel is just outside of the Hanshin Sakuragawa Exit 2. Be aware that there is also an Exit 2 from the subway Sakuragawa stop. This will bring you out a couple of blocks away from the hotel and makes it much more difficult to find. If you come in on the subway, simply follow the underground directions to the Hanshin line and take Exit 2. (The airport train comes into Namba Station and the Sakuragawa stop is only one stop away from there). The staff at the hotel were very helpful. They helped us book a tour at the Asahi Brewery with printed directions and everything! Their English is limited and so is my Japanese, but we made it work! The double bed is a little cozy for two people, but it was comfortable. We travel with backpacks so we had enough space for our belongings. If you're coming with large suitcases it may be a little tight. The bathroom is the size of an airline bathroom with a tiny shower. Breakfast was amazing! Pastries, yogurt, soups, lots of Japanese-style vegetables, juices and an espresso machine. Definitely worth the price!

We were traveling with our 2 kids ( 4y and 8mth) to osaka/kyoto/nara for one week, we have decided to stay in the same hotel for the 5 nights. Hotel location is perfect with metro( easy to reach umeda jr train station) and train station to nara in front of the hotel. The staff were great and have answered all our questions/needs. Will definitly go there again!

After much deliberation, my boyfriend and I decided to stay at Smile Hotel for 3 nights~ it ended up being a fantastic choice!!! The room and hotel itself is quite small... I had previously heard many things about Japan's accom, restaurants and shops being small in general so I was already expecting it. Although, small the room was really comfortable and in a great condition- came with all sorts of helpful amenities that were replenished each day, helpful staff who tried their best to assist us despite a language barrier and the free breakfast was way better than I had anticipated! A subway station is located just a few meters away and Namba is well within reason to walk to (maybe takes 10-15 mins). Highly recommend!

The Smile Hotel is a very solid choice for a budget-minded traveler who wants to be reasonably close to the action in the Namba area. The immediate area around the hotel is fairly dead and it is located right next to the highway. That being said, the area did not feel unsafe and the highway noise didn't make it's way into the hotel. From these so-so immediate environs, it is just a 5-10 minute walk to get to the Namba/Dotonbori Area which is a center of night life and food hunting in Osaka. Namba Station is also a good node for jetting off on day trips to other destinations around the Osaka area. The overall hotel was straightforward, clean and service was professional. Room was small but also clean and well-appointed. Breakfast is free, with modest Western offerings.

Excellent stay, low price!

Practically the lowest last-minute rate for two in Osaka, and I was very impressed. 50 meters from the subway, easy to find, helpful staff with some English ability, beautiful room, nice bedding and all of the toiletries we needed. As is common, the bathroom was a tight fit. But overall we were very happy. Would definitely stay again.
