I had a wonderful time at the hotel! I loved the spa, the pool and had the best night sleeps! It is a shame that the main restaurant does not serve a real espresso from ground coffee beans as it would have been nice to enjoy a good cup of coffee with the wonderful breakfast, but despite this, I will happily return to the hotel

The restaurants are good and many options.
Unfortunately they don’t label the foods in the buffet well. This makes it hard for vegans, people with allergies etc, I am sure they could do a little better on this!

We stayed in the adults only area which was lovely. We had our own private pool and the room was very spacious. We had no issues with getting sunbeds around the pool in this area but I know those in the main part of the hotel did have. However the sunbeds were the most uncomfortable I have ever come across and whilst the room accommodated three of us, there were only ever two sunbeds on our private patio, despite us asking for another one three times.

Food was great, loved being able to dine in each of restaurants once during our stay as we were all inclusive. The prices for these restaurants were as expensive as eating out in the UK so must be pricey for those on half board. The buffet was good, however the food was lukewarm most of the time and not hot. I have been all inclusive before at other hotels and they manage to keep the food hot. Not sure why they couldn't here, despite seeing other reviews complaining about the same issue. All in all, I would stay in the Adults only section again (though its actually age 13 upwards) but I don't think I would go to the main section of the hotel as the sunbed issue and waiting 30 mins to get served in the evening would be a really pain and put me off.

Only one additional last thought, they need a standard waste paper bin in the room, the small bins in the bathroom are not good enough for the rubbish such as empty bottles, food packets, paper etc, so we ended up collecting it in a pile for housekeeping to remove.

The resort was great for the excellent selection of restaurants, food, pools, cleanliness/spotless. Great if one wishes to relax/lounge for several days and enjoy amazing food. On the other hand reception staff seemed a bit defensive and evasive with encountered issues. One particularly annoying thing was 2 treadmills for the hundreds of people at the facility. Having to wait for the right moment for exercise equipment, to work off all that overeating was disappointing. The property is not beachfront, and the beach was painfully rocky. Good stay nonetheless.

We spent a few days in one of the larger suites. It was modern, quiet, comfy. The food was good - not the best we have had but above average. Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. We'd definitely consider it again for quiet/relaxation time. They probably could pay a little extra attention to cleanliness especially around dining areas.

Nothing unique, just a regular hotel property. Unfortunately the food isn’t really Greek style and could be better. We decided to eat outside. Also the noise of the kids can be a bit annoying. But it’s not an adult only hotel, therefore you have to try to be seated at least outside. Staff has always been nice and try to accommodate our requests.
The a la card restaurants you have to make an online reservation and on the day you get confirmation for almost an hour later - sorry, that’s not how it should work. We canceled!

Fantastic all inclusive stay with family

Avra was a stunning large hotel offering multiple large pools with a smaller pool near the beachside, multitude of restaurants with some needing pre-reservation but easy to do throught the link they send you, covering asian, italian and pool side snacks as well as main buffets. The all inclusive option is fantastic and large variety of drinks all available within this. They catered amazingly for my 8 month old son especially for food, Jessie at the concierege helped us greatly in putting together meals to send to the chef and be prepared for him. Overall a few less vegetarian options (as mains) for adults but they did make efforts to do the other dishes without the meat. Staff were all very polite and courteous and hotel was large and very clean and maintined well. Spa area also large with indoor pool, sauna, steam lovely massage therapies also

Our stay overall was good, the food was great, facilities etc were good; and staff were extremely helpful.

Some things however were not great, hence the four stars:

- Upon arrival to the room, although cleaned, the sheets had stains on them, room not entirely cleaned as dust and cob webs on furniture, also there were tiny lizards and other insects roaming around.

- There were cats wondering around in the food areas and restaurants, which wasn’t pleasant as not everyone is a cat lover, the staff didn’t respond to this very well, at some times there was also a dog wondering around.

- It wasn’t very friendly for children, lacking facilities.

- Our all inclusive package was self service only in the breakfast and lunch main buffet halls, where you can choose what to eat, but simple things like a soft drinks machine and tea/coffee and beer etc was all waiter service, it would’ve been good to be able to just get these yourselves. They did have a water and juice machine.
The snack bars were only all waiter service and nothing to just grab yourself; and although fairly timely, it’s still not very convenient when you cannot just help yourself and have to wait for food and drink.
Not a major issue, but good to mention.

- The venue said they have variety of gluten free options however in reality these were not great nor enjoyable. They had one type of GF bread which was not nice at all.

If the above were addressed, then we would be really happy to visit here again.

Amazing stay

The whole experience was amazing. The hotel is beautiful, the staff is friendly and efficient, the bedroom is spacious and comfortable. The swimming pool is so good, with a bar service inside so you can have drinks by the pool. The buffet has a lot of options, for all tastes, and it is delicious. We really enjoyed the stay and would definitely come back.

Resort Amazing but room not as good as expected!

The resort was fantastic and the all inclusive was brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble.

The only thing that was below par was the room. We booked a junior suite with a double bed and 2 singles.

I feel we were thrown in a small suite out the way as I’ve been in bigger hotel rooms at a fraction of the cost. Our beds were made up as 2 singles for us and 2 singles for the kids… the room clearly states a double and 2 singles. That’s the only thing that let it down for me as we paid a lot for our stay and wanted luxury.

Maybe we had been spoilt with the previous villa we had stayed in the week before but for an expensive junior suite with private pool… I did expect a bit more room and a double bed!

I did ask to move rooms and would pay extra for a deluxe but none were available apparently.

The kids entertainment wasn’t great either as only stuff on maybe 3 out of 7 days so it did leave them bored at night at times.

The place itself is amazing and the staff would do anything for you but the above issues did let it down for us unfortunately.

The hotel is beautiful, clean and located close to Chania, Samaria gorge and Balos beach. Rooms are spotless, pool area and pool itself great. Food was very good and plenty of choice, the only thing I would add in restaurant was the description of the dishes i.e if it's suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Beach was pleasant but the area leading to the beach needs working on maybe plant trees, plants etc. so it looks more appealing. All in all my stay was very pleasant.

Absolutely divine holiday; the hotel is very well thought through - you have all amenities in the room, by the pool or even by the seaside. Five restaurants, each one with a view, good food selection, huge swimming pool, excellent design; private beach and seaside restaurant deserve a separate thank you ! Avra Imperial is the perfect holiday hotel for families with great restaurants, great spa and gym, many pools to choose from, friendly staff, and big comfortable bedrooms. Direct access to the beach. Easy organisation of trips - we organised a private boat trip to Balos beach and Gramvousa Island, absolutely incredible. Close to Chania and Platanias. Best restaurant is the Beachside but book a week in advance. No good restaurants outside the hotel. Loved every moment there.

Wonderful Avra week

The resort is a real gem. I would really like to come back there again. Our family room was right on spot with cleaning, design, comfort, amenities. The hotel is very quiet and though is in full capacity, sometimes feels like you are in a secluded retreat. The food is abound, wigh various variants that will fit anyone, including the young ones. The pools and surrounding areas were really joyful for our entire family, the small ones barely left the area, the beach is also great, and will provide you postcard photos and memories.
The spa, although not used it's facilities looks impressive and inviting. And we really couldn't find any cons, not that we want to after a great experience.

I stayed one week at the Avra hotel and was greeted upon late check-in with a room upgrade to a pool-view room. The pool is massive, plus the property is situated right on the beach. The staff equipped my room as requested in advance with a crib and baby monitor. It was lovely to have everything ready for me. The room also had a nice bottle of local wine and plate of fruit as well as a tall bottle of water. This hotel was very comfortable, and each member of the the staff were friendly. The hotel is ideal for business, or couples, or families. I was impressed how family-friendly, yet still quiet and peaceful, the property was. Breakfast was wonderful each morning. I had a little time to enjoy the spa, which was delightful. Overall, the hotel is a phenomenal value. I would love to return with my family. The location is quite convenient to the OAC (Orthodox Academy of Crete). One may walk or easily hire a taxi from the front desk. Convenient for my work, I appreciated the stable WIFI and reasonable room service.

The hotel looks amazing, the rooms are lovely and large,the breakfast buffet is nice and the pool is nice but freezing, you never seem to get used to the temperature. That is all for the positives really. Overall the hotel was quite disappointing despite it being a 5 star hotel. There is no Aircon or an extremely weak Aircon in the lobby and halls of the hotel, when you come inside it's always nice to feel the cold air after being outside in the scorching sun, but you never feel that sensation. The complimentary water \"cooler\" is either always empty or warm. The evening restaurants are possibly the lowest grade quality food you can get, i would highly recommend you go outside the hotel for dinner, my fiancé found a hair in her food one night also. The Asian restaurant Blue Dong is hand on heart, genuinely the worst take on Chinese/Japanese food I have ever witnessed. Do not be fooled by the fancy decor. I ordered teriyaki salmon that came fully raw inside with a little drizzle of teriyaki sauce on top, and the same for the teriyaki chicken starter. The best food in the hotel is the basic club Sandwich at the pool bar. Ultimately the most disappointing thing is the location. It is so isolated and so far away from the main town of Chania. It's a good 35 minute drive or 60 minute bus ride away, it's located in a small village with pretty much nothing bar a few cafés and little supermarkets, there are a few nice restaurants around the harbour/beach though for the evening!

I don’t even want to give a high review for the AVRA because I’m afraid too many people will find out how great it is and we won’t be able to get back in! Rooms were great, ours had a private plunge pool. The main pools are amazing with swim up bars and lots of places to lie in the water. Food was great with lots of options. Walk right onto the beach where there is their own little beach bar with pool. Great for families and couples looking to relax. Village is a little sleepy so no real nightlife after dinner.

Great service! Delivered a birthday cake for my wife on her birthday after they realized from check-in it was her birthday that week (without any prompt from us). Great private pool and spacious deck area. Main pools and child pools very clean. My son (2 years old) loved the daycare staff who spoke several languages including Russian and English which he understands. Great views. We will be back! Breakfast is great! We are out for lunch / dinner and would recommend doing so. When eating at the resort restaurants for those meals it was just ok. We greatly enjoyed eating on the economy for all but one lunch and dinner on a 7 day trip (and much cheaper).

What was unique for a hotel of this caliber was that they did not have the room prepared for us when we arrived late night and exhausted from traveling. The air conditioning was not working and they actually changed us for water. Furthermore we were being asked to pay for an iron.
Other than that the place is amazing.
But at $400 per night you should expect more.

There are several restaurants in the hotel that are convenient. But the overall experience here was disappointing. We paid for a \"sea view\" room which was a total fraud. The view was mainly of the side of a large building, trash and telephone poles/wires. The room was in a state of disrepair and obviously had been for awhile. The tub drain could not be closed to take a bath. The attached shower head did not work. The wall paper was peeling. The bathroom door handle was falling off. The toilet paper holder was broken so the toilet paper rested on the floor. The sliding door to the terrace would barely open and took two of us to open or close it. The electricity kept going out in our room. And on and on. I would never stay here again.

Gorgeous Resort with amazing Cretan Restaurant

Great hotel with terrific Spa/pools and Hammam. The room was modern, tidy and comfortable with a great balcony.
The Cretan Reataurant was AMAZING for both breakfast and dinner and Elli and Lefterie provided incredible service and beach recommendations and other local knowledge to make our stay incredible. Thank you!

A fantastic 3 days spent here

The hotel was amazing with fantastic amenities, a good selection of places to eat on site and a wonderful spa. The location of the hotel is very peaceful a few minutes walk to a quiet stoney beach and only five minutes walk to some local tavernas offering some local delicacies. We will return soon and was a wonderful stay.

An excellent contemporary hotel near Chania

This hotel is really nice. It's a modern contemporary design, with minimalist features throughout. The price of food is reasonable, though more expensive than what you would find outside in the tavernas. The quality of the buffets was excellent. They have many pools to choose from. Two children's pools. They claim they were heated, but I was expecting something closer to 32c in that case. Anyway, it was pleasant. We will be back to this place for sure! The beach is well serviced, with a minimal amount of sand to play in, however. Still it's a nice beach. A drive to Chania is not very far at all, maybe about 25min or 30min.

Esthetically pleasant place for complete relaxation. More suitable for families with children but also acceptable for couples or single travellers. Incredibly helpful and customers oriented staff - from receptionists to pool bar tender.

Nice resort - service and room is mediocre

Let's start with the positive ... the facilities are beautiful. Good central location - 20min away from great sightseeing and shops. Caters to Scandanavaians which are great people to vacation with - friendly and family oriented but not obnoxious. Also, a few good restaurants with great service around the corner from the hotel. Resort was very family-friendly.

Now for the negative. Most staff members are rude. The service is poor at best. Feels like a 2-star resort. I'm writing this review while sitting in the lobby at the RITZ CARLTON in Cairo - the service is day and night. The service different is We are use to much better service. Pool is freezing - couldn't use it at all. Room was hot - called three times to fix the air conditioning but I just got attitude. The towel service is brutal - you need a card to retrieve and you are limited to one each. You have to go to the main building to pick-up and drop off your towels - so tacky.!!

Overall I wouldn't return.

September holiday in Crete

The weather in September in Crete is just right. I stayed at the hotel for 4 days and the weather was in the 80's.. warm and comfortable but not sweaty weather like in August. The hotel was packed. Nice hotel for young couples with small children. Many pools. We got the room with a private pool, it was nice but you really don't need it because there are pools all over the hotel. We loved the hotel and will visit again next year. There is staff everywhere, they speak all languages, very polite and always there to help you, morning buffets as well as lunch and dinner are amazing.

Very disappointing

It's a really busy hotel in the middle of nowhere. Noisiness and poor service throughout. Kids everywhere causing chaos.

We had to wait ages to check in. Then there was nobody to help with our heavy bags, so we had to walk absolutely miles with them to the room, including stairs. It's a huge hotel. Room numbers go to 5 digits!

The spa was unmanned, until someone returned to the desk after a ten minute wait. Then we found the water unusually cold. Plenty of things didn't work, and nobody around to help.

Breakfast was a disaster, people fighting over tables because staff kept sitting new arrivals at already occupied tables. Food is plentiful and varied, but poor quality, breads too dry for example. All the doors to the outside area were locked except one making you feel trapped!

Wifi doesn't work in the room or most of the corridors, had to go to reception.

Look on google maps, the hotel complex is almost as big as the rest of the town around it. There really is nothing here.

The design of the hotel is modern, with a couple of interesting touches, but it's cold sharp and characterless.

Overall in summary, it's huge, staff don't care, and there is no form of personal service whatsoever. We are checking out and going elsewhere. We have no idea how it was rated so highly by others!

Its ok...

So my husband and i wanted to go to Crete for 3 days just to relax and enjoy. The hotel is beautiful, modern, extremly clean, and gorgeous view. However. The room we were staying in had incredible problems with wifi. The staff gave us a cord to plug into the wall for Internet but this was not so helpful as it did not reach to the bed, and we were using it to watch tv etc since the tv there did not really have english shows. The next morning when we complained to the front desk, they gave us an extremly hard time, the sales manager in particular was extremly rude. I have never seen anything like that in my life. We were just asking for a solution and she did nothing but yell at us. We asked to speak to the manager and they said well see. Finally they told us we could meet with him in an hour and when we did he was extremly nice and helpful and upgraded us to a room with a private pool and the wifi there worked perfectly!! In addition, the pools in the hotel are all very beautiful but have no heaters and are freezing!! Even the hot tub was just lukewarm.... In addition, we called down for a cup of hot water and they charged us 4 euro which is ridiculous. Also the hotel has nothing near it, so when we wante to go out at night, we took a ten minute walk and came back. And its 2 and a half hours from the airport which was not so pleasant either.

Great hotel in good location

We stayed for two weeks and were very impressed. The swimming pools are huge and always sun beds available. Also has sun beds and shades on the beach at no extra cost. The main restaurant buffet was excellent and good value. The hotel is situated in a small seaside town with a small harbour and several tavernas.

Avra great for kids :) but not for couples :(

Overall I did not enjoy my stay at Avra. The resort was very busy and the majority of guests were young families and I found the noise from children yelling and crying very unpleasant. In fact after 5 nights we left and stayed at Thalassa Resort in Agia Marina an adults only hotel. The plumbing in our room at Avra was not up to a new 5 star standard resort as the sink and shower would fill with water and pool and there was mould around the base. The free WIFI was poor and only worked well in and around reception area. A few positives would be the extremely comfortable bed, the generous sized rooms and the amazing shower head. We never used the pools because again there were too many children and I much prefer the beach :)

Great atmosphere and pleasing. Breakfast choices were superb. The only disappointing thing was service at the hotel restaurants was very slow. One place we walked out because the servers did not care to come and welcome us. Room service could improve a bit. Bot on the whole a lovely place to stay in.

Es hat einfach alles gepasst. Tolles Hotel, die Pools, das Essen, das Personal, die Zimmer.. Im „Ort“ ist nicht viel los, aber man kommt sehr gut mit dem Bus nach Chania. Wir waren sehr zufrieden und empfehlen das Hotel auf jeden Fall weiter. :)

Gebuchtes Zimmer wurde nicht gegeben, Differenz wurde nicht erstattet. Wasser nicht aufgefüllt, minibar wurde nicht aufgefüllt Lunch war im Residenz Bereich nicht verfügbar, Zimmer Service 3€ pro Bestellung und das alles trotz all inclusive! Schrecklich! 15.000€ dafür dass man nicht mal Wasser bekommt. Eines nachts stand Zimmer Türe einfach offen, direkt Rezeption Bescheid gesagt, seit über 10 Tagen keine Antwort warum!!

Wir hatten glücklicherweise das beste Zimmer im ganzen Hotel (Adults-Only-Bereich) mit einer großen Terrasse und vielen Sonnenstunden. Die meisten anderen Hotelgäste mussten sich mit 2-3 Sonnenstunden auf ihren Terrassen begnügen und die waren dann entweder sehr früh am Morgen oder am späten Nachmittag. Wer plant das architektonisch so?!

Das Frühstücksbuffet fanden wir sehr gut. Den Fitnessbereich von der Ausstattung her auch.

Wer einen schönen, hoteleigenen Strandabschnitt wünscht wird bei diesem Hotel enttäuscht sein.

Das größte Minus war für uns jedoch der Service. Mal ganz davon abgesehen, dass man hier im Mai/Juni in der Nebensaison mit weniger Personal arbeitet, was sich besonders bei den Öffnungszeiten (nur bis 17:00 Uhr) des Spa-Bereiches und bei der Reinigung der Pools bemerkbar gemacht hat, musste man vor allem mit jedweden Anliegen mehrfach kommen bis etwas passierte.
Das stellen wir uns in 5-Sterne-Hotels in dem Preissegment anders vor und sind es auch anders gewohnt.

Das Personal an der Rezeption wirkte oft überfordert, vergesslich und nicht besonders engagiert. Auch gab es mit einigen Bediensteten nicht marginale Kommunikationsschwierigkeiten auf Grund mangelnder Englischkenntnisse.

Die Preise im Spa-Bereich sind unverschämt (Bsp. 140€ für 70 Min. Hot-Stone).
Wir waren dementsprechend außerhalb des Hotels im Spa.

Es gibt in der Gegend (Nordwesten Kretas) bessere Hotels, gerade im Adults-Only-Bereich.
Wir werden nicht wiederkommen.

Super Hotel, eine reine Wohlfühloase!
Die Lage ist nur etwas abgelegen und man kann in der Umgebung nicht viel unternehmen, es gibt nur ein Bus der in die Stadt nach Chania fährt.

Die Fahrt nach Rethymno dauert zum Beispiel 2 1/2 Stunden.

Mietwagen für Unternehmungen ist ein absolutes muss.

Ansonsten das Hotel sehr sauber, freundlich und leckeres Essen!

Very good value for the money

This hotel has a really good spa with gym, saunas and jacuzzi. Rooms are very modern, soacious and clean but the bed is extrmely hard. The buffet restaurant was more tyan enough for us for the weekend - they have extremely wide range of varieties on table and the selection changes day to day. But the staff was absolutely lost with allergy information and they had my wife eat food with nuts and almonds several times although she kept asking if it was safe ot not. Very poor job on several occasions from the restaurant staff. Otjer than that it was a very nice and relaxing stay!

Wir waren insgesamt sechs Nächte in diesem Hotel und es hat uns wirklich sehr gut gefallen. Allerdings hatten wir ein Zimmer mit Privat Pool und dieses Zimmer war in einem anderen Gebäude von dem Hotel gelegen, und man musste immer über eine Fußgängerbrücke laufen, um dann ins Hauptgebäude mit den großen Pools zu kommen. Wir würden noch mal in das Hotel kommen allerdings dann das Geld für das Privat Pool Zimmer sparen, weil der Privat Pool leider viel zu kalt war im September und das bei einer Außentemperatur von 28°. wenn man All Inclusive gebucht hat, kann man sich dort ausreichend den Magen voll schlagen und die ganze Karte von oben bis unten durch trinken. Die Speisen sowie die Getränke haben alle eine sehr gute Qualität gehabt und waren zu unserer vollsten Zufriedenheit.

We traveled through Crete and stayed at a double bed luxury room with pool view. It was in de building across the street so not in the main building but it was much better over there. Perfectly for couple without kids. Our restaurant was much smaller and less crowded with extra chosen meals from 5 star chef Babi. At this point we wanne thank Nikos, Argiro, Manolis, Giannis and Elaine for your services. At the entrance is a baby kitty and lots of good places to enjoy. To mention the beach is full of
Stones maybe you could build a little path with sand sacks or something similar and the cleaners could be a bit precariously. Nevertheless it was a great hotel and so beautiful as well. Thank you for the stuff members who made it more nicer there for us. Greetings Ari and Zoi

My daughter (15) and I loved this hotel. Our stay was just amazing. We enjoyed our room with a private pool and the awesome pool view. The food was amazing. We liked the buffet. The staff were very nice and the cleaning lady was very kind and caring. It’s a nice hotel for families too. We will be back. Thank you for being a part of our wonderful vacation. Die Hotelanlage ist sehr schön. Die Zimmer sind leider etwas abgewohnt, aber noch in Ordnung. Am meisten hat die Auswahl der Speisen gestört. Wenn ich nach Griechenland fliege möchte ich nicht 7 Tage Pasta und Pizza und wünsche mir authentische Küche.

La situation géographique de l'hotel permet d'accéder facilement à différentes destinations.
Nous avons fait balos en partant d'un bateau privee
de Kissamos.
Elafonissi, Matala, Spili... que nous avons fait en voiture que nous avions préalablement louer avant notre arrivée a l'aéroport
L'hotel et grand et nous avions une suite avec piscine très agréable si vous voulez profiter d'une piscine tranquillement ou en profiter en dehors des horaires des différentes piscines de l'hotel.le restaurant est bon est propose bop de variétés qui change tous les soirs.
Il y a aussi 3 autres restaurants dans l'infrastructure avec un supplement.

Dommage que la chambre etait equipée d'une toute petite et vielle tele non connectée. C'est le seul point negatif

Lämmin suositus laadukkaasta all-inclusivesta!

Loistava paikka, lämmin suositus.
All inclusive paketti toimi erinomaisesti.
Ruokailut oli hyvät, jopa buffet, ravintolat erinomaiset!
All inclusiveen kuului korkealaatuisey drinkit (ei halvimmista mahdollisista aineista tehty, kuten B-luokan ”all inclusive”:issa)
Baarista sai pullojuomia, esim oluita (sol, heineken etc, ei halvinta paikallista hanaolutta) ja ravintolassa viinipulloja (ei buffetviinejä hanasta).
Kaikinpuolin todella lämmin suositus.
Ainoa miinus oli katukissat, jotka häiritsivät jonkinverran ruokailuja.
Varmasti tulee mentyä uudestaan.
