Lovely Place to Stay!

I came for a one-night stay, but had to leave before breakfast time the next day, so I can't comment on the breakfast portion. However, I found the place charming and restful. I was very comfortable there. The owner was very friendly and engaging, but not intrusive. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there, and hope to do it again.

Pretty home, nice bfast, inconvenient location

Hard to get a cab back and forth as tolls to Staten Island are $17 each way. Would’ve stayed on the Jersey side if I’d known. We were in town for a cruise. The breakfast and stay was lovely however!

A fine time

We recently stayed at the Victorian Bed and Breakfast overnight. This delightful home proved a fine place to stay. The welcoming owner served a delicious breakfast complete with lighted candles on the table and entertained us with stories of the house and Staten Island. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We really enjoyed the Victorian Bed & Breakfast, the owner met us when we arrived, let us decide on which room we would like, and asked us what we would like for breakfast. Allowed me to stay later than the normal checkout. She was very accommodating. The B&B was in a great location, convenient to the ferry, which is what we needed to get to Manhattan. We would definitely stay there again.

The host was very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were clean. The beds were very comfortable. The location far from Manhattan was not convenient but the quiet neighborhood and free parking not available in Manhattan made up for this.

Excellent choice at Staten Island

Good place to stay at Staten Island. The owner and the hostess is a very charming person who will make you feel at home. The house has a character and carries the Victorian era atmosphere. It is located in the residential area and will cost you 11$ to get to the ferry that takes you to NYC. Guests share bathroom and it is not a problem at all. I am glad I chose this place over a traditional hotel.

Wonderful bed and breakfast on Staten Island,

We stayed on the 3rd floor bedroom with porch area and shared bathroom. The room was clean and tidy with antique style furniture. The bed was so comfortable. The owner was very hospitable. She made a wonderful breakfast spread each morning. Parking was on the street, but there appeared to be no issues about space availability. It was a lovely experience, having normally stayed in hotels and met some interesting people who also stayed there.

Great breakfast!

This 160 year old house on Staten Island is good value for money with great quality breakfasts. The fresh fruit salad was delicious, as was the wonderful fruit and nut toasted bread, and there was always plenty of choices to eat. Our room was at the top of the house, with a shared bathroom. We thought we had booked an ensuite, but as there was someone already in the 4th bedroom, we had to share. The house is quite creaky due to its age, and you can hear people coming and going. But it is much cheaper than staying in Manhattan, and there is easy access by bus to the free Staten Island ferry. The bed was comfortable and as the owner lives in the house next door, you get the use of the living room.

Quiet place nice rooms, need a car

Great place to stay, very clean and spacious rooms. Host is the best, especially at breakfast.
Area not the most affluent but the owner has not had a problem for 30 years, not to many places to eat, ideal place to stay if you have a car, other wise your on the bus.

A real gem

We had a wonderful experience. The house is a beautiful old Victorian that has a fascinating history, retold by a very gracious hostess. Breakfast was sumptuous, and conversation was delightful. The room was very comfortable. There was no television in the room, but we came to appreciate its absence.

Good Deal

Staying in an B&B was new to us, not sure how it would work out. I am happy to say it worked out great. Our host was good, room was very clean. We drove in so we were able to drive to the Staten Island ferry where you can park for about 8 bucks day. Ferry is free. I would stay here again.

Pleasant stay with great Company

Choose this location due to price. Location was convenient to Ferry. House is older but well maintained. Room was clean and comfortable. Owner was exceptional. Only complaint is no TV in room. There was one available in the den to watch however. Will stay again if we are back in town.

A Charming Stay in Staten Island

Before I had even arrived at the Victorian Bed & Breakfast, I knew that it was going to be wonderful. The owner and I had been playing phone-tag regarding my time of arrival and breakfast accommodations, and her voicemails alone revealed her to be a delight.

She greeted us with the utmost hospitality, and entering the house was like stepping into another era. Beautiful china, paintings, and antique furniture decorated the spacious rooms, with ceilings reaching high into the sky. Our room was equally charming, with fresh roses (from the bushes out front) in a vase, and the softest, fluffiest pillows I've ever laid my head on.

My boyfriend and I were visiting the city, and only had a few moments to check-in and deposit our baggage before we took the ferry over. However, in the morning, we had the chance to better acquaint ourselves with the house and with its lovely owner. Not only did she prepare a beautiful table for us, with delicate china and antique glass dishes, but she also accommodated our food preferences. We are both vegan, and she went out of her way to provide a delicious, nourishing vegan breakfast for us!

We had the pleasure of chatting with her over breakfast, after which she gave us a tour of her backyard garden and showcased her beautiful plants & flowers. I wish we could have stayed longer!

A peace of serenity

A few words to describe this place, heartwarming, comfortable & simple.

The B&B, was like a second home with a old feel. Many of the furniture was antique but well maintained. The bedroom was clean, simple & comfy. The breakfast was delicious, French toast along with other varieties. The hospitality we received upon arrival was greeted w/ kindness & attentiveness. Overall, amazing place :]

Perfect for Snug Harbor

Had a wedding to attend at Snug Harbor, a little over a mile away. The Victorian B&B was so convenient, and on top of that, very comfortable-- the room was very well-appointed, breakfasts consisted of an abundance of delicious food, and the owner was very welcoming.

An Outstanding Tranquil Stay

The moment I walked into Danuta's home I experienced the tranquility & serenity I was seeking. I was enchanted with the interior, surrounded by beautiful antiques & collectibles that I love..upon entering my beautifully spacious decorated room, instantly I knew my 3 day stay would be amazing, and that it was. The bed so very comfortable,the linens superb..the lovely fireplace mantle in the sitting area..the floor to ceiling windows,looking out to the quaint street..the shared bathroom meticulous..Danuta was so kind, not only a wonderful hostess but such an interesting person to converse with..Her breakfast was delicious..would make anything you liked, along with fresh rolls,croissants,fruits & delicious coffee....I did not want to leave,for I felt so at home..however I will be back most definitely..for a few days retreat...Thank You Danuta..for a much needed,comfortable memorable stay! EXCELLENT!

UNBELIEVABLE & UNFORGETTABLE!

It?s very hard to think of something to say when 30 other people have already said exactly the same thing. So I?ll just add that it?s all true: the gorgeous historic house, the antique décor, the welcoming atmosphere, the elegant and spacious bedrooms, the satin bed linens and cloud-like mattresses, the generous and delicious breakfasts suited to your individual tastes and requests? But most importantly, the owner who is more like a wonderful hostess than a landlady. Also, much has been said on Danuta?s hospitality, kindness and attention to her guests. But here, at least, I feel privileged to be able to share a very personal experience.

During my stay I had a serious dental emergency. When Danuta saw I was very upset and nearly hysterical, she sat me down and, like a good psychotherapist, started talking to me ? told me a story from her own experience, then started asking me questions, and before I knew it, I had relaxed and nearly forgotten all about my problem. Then she told me to get in her car (I don?t drive) and spent a whole day locating a dentist who could see me at such short notice and on a Saturday, making the appointment for me, and driving me there and back. And on many other occasions she always took interest in my moods and problems, and was always willing to listen and to offer her input.

I had heard B&B owners in New York offered tiny closets at exorbitant prices. But here I had basically a self-contained unit ? a large bedroom and a spacious veranda converted into a cheerful kitchen ? at the price of 1 room, and very reasonable at that.

What else? Staten Island is a welcome change of pace after Manhattan; the buses run often and on schedule; the 30-min. FREE ferry crossing is a rare treat for those who like to be on the water; there?s bus service straight into Brooklyn.

I was in tears all of my last day there. It had all added up to an unbelievable, unforgettable vacation, the best in years.

Wonderfull place

My family (three young kids) stayed for four nights and had a wonderfull stay! Danuta makes you a great breakfast, what ever you want! A perfect base for a full day ManhattN. By car it takes you 7 minutes tot the ferry, wich brings you near the statue of Liberty, directly to ManhattN for free! Danuta can tell you also a lot of the history! We will come back!

Outstanding stay!

I recently stayed at the Victorian B&B and did not want to leave!! From the moment you walk into the place you feel like you stepped back into a time when lushness was the order of the day. You are greeted by the Lady of the Manor, Ms. Danuta whose quiet and calm demeanor automatically makes you release any stresses you may have had on your journey there. As you enter the sitting room, your eyes are first drawn to these two Italian marble fireplaces that just makes your jaw drop. The vintage furniture and lighting are so vivid you can actually imagine people from eras gone by sitting and laughing in this space. Breakfast choices were wonderful. For someone like me who is not a big breakfast eater, there was a fresh fruit salad that was absolutely perfect. I could have sat at that beautiful table and talked to Danuta all day.

I could not have asked for a more comfortable room to stay in. It was fresh and clean and quiet. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud.

I have stayed at other B&Bs in the city and this one is head and shoulders above them. Victorian B&B will be my number one choice of lodging whenever I am in town no matter how long or how short my stay.

We had a wonderful weekend. Thanks so much Danuta. The beds were so comfortable and the chairs in the room, we just sank into too. This was perfect after walking alot throughout the day. Breakfast was great too, and loved that there was coffee and tea available if we were up early before breakfast or late at night before bed. We were just so blessed and thankful for our wonderful weekend get away.

Best bed and Breakfast I Have Ever Stayed In.

I have stayed in many B&B's over the years and can say without doubt this is my favourite. The rooms are incredible. The antique furnishings are magnificent. Breakfast was wonderful and the hospitality and service Danuta provided made the experience even richer.

The rooms are outstanding, the atmosphere is very good and calm, and the breakfasts are rich and delicious.

A Warm, Welcoming Home!

This was a wonderful place to stay. I enjoyed all of the welcoming little touches like banana bread, cookies, truffles, and tea available to the guests. The mattress in my room was the most comfortable I have ever slept on. I appreciated all of the antiques, the many choices in decor that made this house special. The owner of the B & B was friendly and kind. The last time I stayed in a B & B in London, I got the impression the owner disliked doing his job, and I felt lonely so far from home, so I especially appreciated the owner's friendliness. Breakfast included the most amazing fruit salad, another example of kind and generous hospitality. Parking was very easy (certainly not a given in NYC), and I felt safe. The North Shore of Staten Island has many interesting homes; it is a little known treasure of an area. Staying at the Victorian B & B was a very positive experience for me.

Nice place in Northern Staten Island

My first time to New York. I stayed here for 3 nights during New Years. The plan was to walk to the ferry. However the ferry was 2 miles away. Walking was not an option. You have to take a car or taxi anywhere to get food. The neighborhood is on the decline. Nonetheless, for the price and cleanness of the BB I would suggest this to a friend.

The 4 of us (2 couples) stayed there for a week in Nov 2011. We had the entire top floor for us (2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom), which was great.

Danuta is a star. The breakfast is definately outstanding! We came to NYC for the Marathon and Danuta makes a customised all you-can-eat breakfast. We were mad on the potatos (carb-loading) so Danuta made potatos for us every morning... always the way we wanted (boiled, fried etc.). We were also free to use the kitchen to make some food at night. Danuta really makes an effort to make her guests comfortable, e.g. she gave us a lift to the marathon start on sunday morning 7:30 am.... hospitality/service does deserve 5 stars.

I have also scrolled down the other reviews and I would like to state the following: 1) Yes, I can imagine that the house may get hot on a hot summer day since the house has no such insulation which one may know from continental Europe, BUT: its a Victorian house and if you do not want Danuta to switch off the AC when making the bed, you should try with telling her! I am sure if you tell her in the morning that you will leave the AC switched for a reason she will not touch it. 2) It is Staten Island and not Manhattan in the end of the day, which means you have to travel a bit to reach Manhattan. For us that was no problem. Buses are going quite frequently (every half hour and in rush hour every 20 minutes). Same frequence for the Ferry. I'd say it takes between 1h - 1.5h from Danutas door to downtown Manhattan. 3) Dinner on Staten Island: We usually had dinner somewhere in Manhattan, but there are also some places nearby, eg. a Mexican bar which has great Tacos... All in all I do recommend this place if you do not mind the travelling to Manhattan and if you are looking for an inexpensive but clean and comfortable stay. If you are looking for a modern 5 star highstreet hotel you may better book a modern 5 star highstreet hotel and not a Victorian B&B.....

wonderful breakfast

Lovely quiet house, super room & bathroom, very interesting and helpful hostess, attracts interesting guests therfore good breakfast table conversations, but not good for Manhattan visit. Using Saten Island ferry was good but B&B 20 minutes away by usually crowded bus. Also English very much 2nd language in the predominately Spanish American neigbourhood and no reasonable restaurants nearby. So recomended if have own transport or for short stay only to see lower Manhattan.
PS One room has own kitchen / dining room, this is wonderful value if wish to self cater.
