Comfortable cabin but interior / decor dated. Breakfast area cramped and busy, especially where getting your food, but comfortable seating and lovely views depending on where seated. Evening meal was tasty, however staff not very attentive and forgetful with order details. Children’s entertainment was great with lots of activities to choose from.

Room we had was getting a bit tired
Drawer units were showing signs of wear on the edges.
Both chairs were threadbare on arms and along the top of the back.

Service was slow at breakfast & at the bar. Tried to charge for accommodation twice on check out. When it was already paid. Feels a little tired in places. Food was ok. Not fantastic but the price was reasonable for what you get. Overall it was a nice stay with great facilities for families

The hotel had a conference booked during our stay and sadly catered to them at the cost of the hotel residents. We had asked at reception where we could get lunch and were directed to one of the eateries only to find it closed. On returning to reception the same receptionist didn't seemed to care and said she didn’t know it was closed. On speaking to the duty manager say gave the reason that apparently due to the number of staff that were not able to cope with the guests and the conference attendees at the same time.
Also we had also found the lodges we had to be in a poor state with windows not able to be securely shut and looked and pathway leading to them very poorly lit, all in all needing a lot of TLC.

Excellent place, but!

Reception was good, room was good apart from the view of the roof right outside the window. Liked the options for dining though never got the chance to enjoy it after the first late lunch on arrival. My wife was ill with food poisoning! I was ok but i had a different meal.
She spent the rest of the day and night sick in bed. We asked if we could have a refund for the second night as I needed to take her home. The reception were great and were happy to refund. Unfortunately it hasnt happened. They did put £103.96 into our bank, but had already taken £100 for the card and purchases plus £47.46 for the lunch, then took another £147.46 from our card. We are now 7 days, the 100 and the 46 have now gone so all is square but no refund for the second night.

The Crieff Hydro is a lovely setting and we loved the pool and Victorian baths. The breakfast was fantastic and a wonderful breakfast manager Lynn went out of her way to help my disabled partner. Restaurant choices in the evening were limited and we ended up eating in East twice as there were no other restaurants available - it was good but pricey and not the kind of food you want to eat two nights in a row. Bookings etc supposed to be on an App which was not working properly. My 25 year old son was keen on doing some activities but there was no availability. I think they cater for large groups with prebookings. The Secret bar was a special experience.

Beautiful hotel

Absolutely gorgeous hotel. Very impressive and lots to do. All the staff were lovely too. Clean spacious family room. Got moved when we asked for a better view and the room was ideal. Good restaurants and a good atmosphere. Didn’t do the activities as Storm Amy arrived!! Would be lovely in the summer. Will definitely go back to stay.

Room was clean with beautiful views and enough space for all 3 of us.
Staff were very pleasant and helpful when questions were asked.
Breakfast was delicious with lots of options. Had to ask for pancakes for my little one though and no chocolate sauce which she was disappointed in but didn’t ruin our breakfast experience.
We used the pool which was great too. Kids pool was warmer than the big pool which was lovely.

The hotel was clean and room was a good size but we went to the restaurant for lunch costing nearly £200 and the service was poor and at times staff were very rude. We were a party of 8 and although it was empty they crammed us around a table suitable for 5 max, made mistakes with the kids food order and then were quite rude when told. Breakfast was terrible. we were sat in a different restaurant than the buffet so not easy going back and forward to get food with 4 kids , took a short cut back in the front door rather than walking full way round and was told off by a very rude hostess. Didn’t take a tea/coffee order until called over then forgot about the kids pancake order. We also paid for adventure day passes and it was so disorganised. Tree top climbing was so busy and a nightmare to get into turned up 40 minutes early, stood at front and folk just turned up and skipped in front of us. same happened at the shooting and staff didn’t seem to care. Bit disappointing especially when it was adults skipping in front of kids. On busy days they really should do advance bookings for time slots to make sure everyone gets a turn without it turning into arguments.

Friendly , pleasant and helpful staff at this hotel. We enjoyed the free organised activities within this hotel, for example the music bingo, which was fun. It would have been useful to be given the list of activities at reception on arrival as we didn't find out about the events until our second day at the hotel. There is even a cinema,
All the staff were excellent and very helpful. The prices in the restaurants are a bit expensive especially the Asian inspired restaurant. We hope to return to the hotel as we had a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Hotel shows age, but overall is good.

Overall, we were pleased with the place. However, The room was not very clean. The floor was dirty had to be mopped. The chairs were old and dirty. We needed to have the window cracked open because it was very musty in the room.

Also, We were very happy with the Receptionist Amita. The reason was that previous to talking to her about a lost item, we called the reception twice and spoke to them in person to find our lost item and rather than checking thoroughly, They simply said nothing was turned that fit the description of what we had lost. Amita on the other hand First told us there was nothing that she knew about, but She would check another place to make sure. After checking, she found our item. It was very essential in our traveling and we were very happy that she found it. We don’t understand why the other receptionists were not as thorough as she was, but at least we can give an excellent report for her.
We are pleased with the breakfast, the only thing we might add is that it would be nice to have more vegan items with protein. The baked beans seemed to be the only item with protein, and we had the same food every day. if you stay one day, it’s OK but we stayed five days

Stately and activity-filled

The sprawling grounds has so much to explore, and the hotel offers such a variety of activities you wont ever feel bored. You can even have your own Bridgerton moment on their immaculate croquet lawn.

The building is quite stately and the rooms well appointed. Some rooms are only accessible via a staircase so if you have heavy luggage or mobility issues, best to write ahead to the hotel.

Special shout-out to Tessa who is part of the concierge team. She was so friendly, helpful, and service-minded. She has an ability to anticipate your needs and give really good suggestions.

Recommend the horse-riding activity because you get to tour the extensive estate. Would've loved to do the nature walk if I had more time there!

Value for money stay, great hotel

My partner and I visited for one night, we were both very impressed. We booked a standard room, it was spacious, clean and had dual aspect windows. We didn’t manage to eat at the main hotel however the meal we had at the sister restaurant was really good value. The main bar looks like it’s recently been refurbished, a great place to chill out and the bartenders were very friendly. The Victorian spa was definitely worth visiting but I’m not sure that charging hotel guests for its use is entirely justifiable.

Disappointing Stay Despite Beautiful Surroundings

We recently stayed at the Crieff Hydro and were impressed by the beautiful surroundings and the hotel itself – it really is a stunning location. The staff were lovely and attentive throughout our visit.

Unfortunately, our experience was marred by a serious issue with the room we booked. We had specifically chosen a room that, as advertised, included a dividing space – ideal for parents with a young child. We even raised concerns about the room prior to booking, but were only told they were tell Expedia to remove the picture of the room we booked (family triple) Sadly, no offer to remedy the issues from the hotel.

To make matters worse, the room was uncomfortably hot, with no air conditioning and only a cheap fan provided, which did little to help.

While the hotel has great potential and the staff were wonderful, our stay was ultimately ruined by misleading advertising and an unsuitable room setup. A real shame, as we had high hopes.

We booked a one night stay for our family of 6. There were no family rooms so we had 2 room, these were large, clean and comfortable.
We ate in the Brasserie, this was disappointing, staff were friendly but the service lacked any extra touches, we had to ask several times for things. Food was ok, the steak was the best thing. The scampi was very dry- avoid!
Staff didn’t ask how our meal was to feed it back at the time.
Breakfast the next day was carnage, we had a short wait to be seated to then find our table wasn’t set, was told someone would be over but they never appeared. We had to ask several times for tea/coffee. There were lots of half cleared tables around, there seemed to be plenty staff but again lacking leadership.
Buffet felt too busy, there needs to be a better flow for the space. People had to ask several times for bowls. Food was ok.
Grounds of the hotel and welcome are nice, pool was warm, we went to the splash session which had a slide which the kids enjoyed.
Lots of other activities going on like table tennis, badminton, games which were free.
Overall the concept of the hotel is good, but overpriced for below average service, wouldn’t return

Slightly disappointed

We have stayed at Crieff Hydro several times over the years. We came back on this occasion to see the new renovations.
Very disappointed with our room. Despite being told at check in the hotel was quiet we were allocated a ground floor room, overlooked by a car park and exit to the hotel. Not very private.
That evening there was function directly below our room and the disco was unfortunately quire loud. On top if this our room had an interconnecting door, although locked we had to listen to the noise of next doors TV all night. Given the noise disturbance not a relaxing stay. We considered asking to move but after being all unpacked we didn't want the inconvenience at that time of night.
The new renovated bar area is beautiful. But sadly let down by really slow service. On both occasions we visited we had to wait a long time to order a drink, and a long time to arrive. Other tables experienced this also. Our table was dirty and didn't get cleaned.
Personally we miss the informal nature of what used to be the Winter Garden cafe. You now have to wait to be seated, then wait to order.
The quality of breakfast was excellent, attentive, friendly staff. Just slightly crowded at times around the food area.
We weren't asked whether we enjoyed our stay on check-out. We didn't feed back on our stay as there was a queue behind us.

Lovely venue for family holiday. Gorgeous rooms. Lovely staff. Piccolo restaurant is wonderful. Brasserie food is nice, perhaps menu coud be a bit more varied? Clean. Beds were so comfortable. Quiet at night. Lovely residents lounge. Fun arcades in Glen's Den. Adventure park about 20min walk or hotel train ride away. Adventure passes a little pricey at £15 each for adventure park but if you have wee ones who will play away for hours you can enjoy cuppa on Basecamp. Activity passes £35 but if you only want to do one activity you can't just pay that, so £35 seems a little expensive unless you are going to be doing lots of activities, then it is a great deal. Wonderful oveall. Would recommend.

What a total disappointment!

For a hotel that is marketed as a premium facility, it is far from it in every sense.

Started with a poor check in experience where the staff member didn’t even tell us how to get to our room, where to go for breakfast or any of the usual bits. They were more interested in speaking with the bellhop ranting about how the cleaning staff had went AWOL.

We went to the restaurant for dinner. It looked worse than a Brewers Fayre and the chicken gyros I ordered were not safe for consumption. Also note they add a tip on which wasn’t on the restaurant receipt however did appear on the bill back to the room.

The “Victorian baths” are the biggest scam at £25 per person, only for it to be a basement pool, which looks like the tiles surrounding it hadn’t been cleaned for a very long time. The walls are painted by what looks like a children’s decorator to look like a Victorian setting however looks like a cheap pan to set, with the ceiling peeling.

The room was a kind to what I would expect an old fashioned hospital to look like and don’t get me started on the unsanitary shower curtain……..if I knew the room had a shower curtain I would never have booked.

Overall: avoid, save your time, money and effort, stay at one of the many better hotels in Scotland at better value & experience

Alright

Hotel was ok. Food menu was uninspired, made claims of using local ingredients which were dubious at best. Understand they have an ongoing major refurb so understandable that not everything is 100% but food, particularly breakfast was a big disappointment.

In room, no water and empty mini bar (fridge on). No way to order breakfast to room but other guests appeared to have done so as there were empty trays outside late in to the afternoon.

Will return after refurb is completed

Great company, disappointing food and service

Booked on the 13th October, To have a room close to reception and it was the furthest away room. For our father who has mobility issues this was poor service.
We requested an executive twin for him and the room was made up as a king. We were offered to split the bed however, we said not to bother. On our first evening, We ate at the brasserie in the terraces having pre ordered for 14 people the service was really poor and slow, some of the party ordered red wine and waited over 30 mins for this to arrive, by this time they were almost finished their meal. Food was not hot, two of us had steak and fries which was apparently a 6oz sirloin, However this was clearly a minute steak, which had no garnish and for £21 is quite disappointing. Restaurant was very busy on the night , However, floor staff did not seem to be getting much direction from management. Later that evening, We were in the make shift bar/ residents lounge, couldn't get Cocktails, no Draught Beer and no Diet coke, Barmen advised us to go get some from the terrace bar, which by this point was closed. When we asked the bar person could you not go get some, he simply replied no! This is a limited bar. This was the only bar open after 9pm!! We just felt that if you are going to be renovating the Hotel, perhaps it would have been good to let us know and at the very least fully stock the bar! Overall, we did have great company which made our weekend, standards of service need to be improved

It is a beautiful property, with friendly, chatty and interested staff.
When we stayed there was lovely Christmas family
experiences, lots of family groups, disco and games in the evening, Santa visited all very exciting.
In the midst of this were several adult guests who seemed to be forgotten. Although there was an adults only bar.,....right beside the children's party.
I adore children but had hoped to have a relaxing and calm pre Christmas break which didn't happen.
It would have been nice if a comfortable quiet room was made available for those guests who stayed without children.
Otherwise it was a lovely stay.

Expensive and not value for money. We won't return

Overall our stay was disappointing.
pleasant reception staff on check in though
Our part of the hotel was notably dated, this was mainly evident in the room and old glazed windows had a lot of condensation on them with mould all along the curtains on both windows was very off putting for us. The room was pretty cold and drafty with the bathroom floor extremely cold. Room furnishings were dark and dated.

We did have a comfortable sleep in a spacious, comfortable bed.

We had a meal on our 1st night stay, this was a table of 8 and we had great food however the service was absolutely terrible, we had a long wait to then be presented with 80% of the mains and then the server went to another table to give a birthday cake, we then waited to get their attention as we had ordered starters which had not been served and now we were sat with 80% of the main meals so i personally found this very frustrating as it is not a cheap experience, the quality of the food was very good however or i would have refused to pay for the meal, i am genuinely not someone to complain and find it very uncomfortable but following the meal and discussion with others I'm left very unsatisfied. Overall we spent a large amount on a 2 night stay and a large meal which we invited some other guests to attend.

I will not be looking to return and actually feel quite disappointed with the overall experience after looking forward to a pre Christmas family experience but it just did not come close to expectation.

We came to town for a wedding and stayed at the Crieff Hydro based on recommendations and it was average in almost all respects. Rooms were clean and spacious, but nothing spectacular. I wish I would have spent less for accommodations in town that were probably just as good if not better. This seems like the kind of place you would go with children.

Be sure to book transportation well in advance. Otherwise you’ll be stuck.

The real disappointment, though, was the staff at the reception desk. Almost no one was willing to help with simple requests, and sometimes the answer to things like “what time does the spa open” was “I don’t know.”Later in the evening one night, when food options were slim, we were told there was a vending machine on the hotel. So we went searching, only to learn that the only vending machine was in a part of the hotel that was closed. We needed help with several things while in town and were largely left to fend for ourselves. The only helpful person was a housekeeper who opened our safe for us when it malfunctioned. We wouldn’t come back.

Room was clean, tidy, very quiet and peaceful.
The lovely view of the hills from the room was a great bonus as well.
Although I didn't have enough time to use most of the facilities here there is plenty to do to keep you occupied.
Breakfast was a nice affair, nice big room with views outside.
Food wise there was fruit, lots of Cereals etc.
Cooked breakfast food quality was excellent and you could help yourself to as much as you wanted.
There is also Croissants, Pastries, Pancakes, toast etc if your not into big breakfasts.
There's various restaurants and bars to suit different tastes as well.
I noticed lots of young families as well so it caters for most people.
I found staff to be helpful and friendly, in my opinion this is what can make or break an experience with a hotel.
Bear in mind if you're a bit fussy this is a huge old Victorian building it has its quirks and faded bits etc.
There is lifts for the various floors for disabled access and a disabled entrance at the reception.
To keep this place up to standard must be very tough indeed for the owners.
But overall I found it nice inside and enjoyed my time here.
I hope to go back here again with the next 6 months but for a bit longer this time.

Easy to drop family and luggage at front of hotel and parking not far away.
Both children (6 3) enjoyed Big Crunchie (Big Country, but hard to say when you're 3!) This 2hr childcare is fab and enabled us to go to the Victorian Spa and have a few moments to actually read a book! BEWARE: you need to book your holiday directly through the hotel to get this free. If you book through a 3rd party, eg Expedia then it's £15 per child per session.
Entertainment at night was good, our kids loved disco, bingo and magician whilst we were there.
We also played tennis, had fun in the play park and had a lead-rein walk.
Breakfast was good, very busy. You really do need to book everything in advance though.
Splash times are very busy (fab inflatable slide) but go outwith these times and it's much more pleasant!

Crieff Hydro

Went to Crieff Hydro for the first time this weekend. We are a couple in our 50s and had a fantastic time. The hotel and amenities far exceeded our expectations. Drinks on the terrace, dinner in the Meikle restaurant and at the nearby sister hotel the Murraypark which were both excellent. After dinner drinks in the piano bar finishe both evenings off nicely before retiring to the comfort of our room which was clean, comfortable and well appointed.
We enjoyed the Victorian baths, putting, walks and watching all the children and families enjoying the activities. Breakfast was amazing!
We plan a return soon with our adult children and partners. Definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing break with a host of activities available to keep you entertained or places to just chill. Also a walk into the town of Crieff is a must, lovely little shops to browse and buy some amazing local produce

Mildly disappointing but with redeeming qualities

Not obvious when we booked that the Victorian Spa was not included-thanks to staff for managing to get us in at relatively short notice but the time was not ideal so book in advance to avoid disappointment.
Hotel is huge with multiple places to eat and drink, but again, book in advance to get the venue and time you want as it does get very busy.
Room had a lovely view, but was a little tired and for a “feature room” it was a little bit disappointing.
In fact, a lot of things were just a little bit below par; fruit at breakfast was in syrup not fresh, not all areas have a lift so we had to carry bags up steps and down a long corridor, I had to move furniture in the room to access wall sockets, the kettle was hidden in a drawer.
But, the Victorian Baths were amazing, the food in The Terrace/Piccolo was fantastic, and the staff were fabulous
Overall, good but not great

Great stay

We had a great stay to celebrate my partners 40th and there was so much on offer to keep our little one occupied. The swimming pool was great with plenty of swimming sessions available throughout the day and the sauna and steam room were also a welcome surprise as we could not book the Victorian Baths as we had our daughter with us. We had considered using the big country childcare but the times never synced in with the times for the Victorian baths or any of the adult activities which is a bit disappointing and would be so much better if you could attend a session during the two hour childcare slot.

Adventure Glen, Glens Den, the pony riding and family fun in the Melville were all brilliant my only criticism is how much you need to pay for after a costly booking. Thankfully on our visit the adventure playground was free access but bear in mind if you attend at peak times there is a charge for adults and children.

My overall disappointment was the night time entertainment for the kids being cancelled by management due to the hotel not being overly busy. There was still kids on site and it would have been nice to have something to do with them after dinner, even a mini disco but there was nothing although before we came there was a full schedule planned including magic show and it was cancelled once we arrived.

I did find the hotel very cold but the food was good. We will definitely return but at a busier time to take advantage of the whole experience.
