The front desk staff was very friendly every time I had to visit the desk. The room was clean. The pool was perfect for my little granddaughter. The hot tub was one of the hottest I have ever been in. The pool was a good temperature as some hotel pools are a little colder than I prefer. The pool area might have needed some new atmosphere as at one time it might have had more plants and decor but now just a few average looking tropical plants and some furniture that maybe needed a good sanding and cleaned up a bit but still had lots of life in them. The beds and bedding were comfortable. The location was easy enough to get to but the signage for check in might need to be better marked. The very first time we stayed at The Gateway we drove around several times before we found a check in area under a canopy or underpass looking area that we thought might have been an entrance to a parking garage and while we where here we noticed another vehicle doing the same thing. But after our first day we found another entrance on the other side of the building where you park that was much easier to use and closer to the elevators. It also has nice little short walking path if you just want to be outside. The patio area did not have any furniture outside at the time we were there in early May except for 2 plastic chairs but there was a nice little waterfall back there. Aside from no continental breakfast, I would say this hotel marked every box we look for in a hotel.

Shower could only be used by two people because the drain was so clogged. Also, when we checked in we were told our room would only be cleaned mid-stay upon request… standard nowadays. Well when we requested beds and towels later, we were told it wouldn’t happen. Seems to be some miscommunication between staff. The weekend brunch buffet is overpriced for what they provide but the room service is good. Chose this place because it is the only hotel with a hot tub, seats about 6. It was a decent stay, almost worth the price but could use some touches to make it better and more worth the money.

There are nice updated rooms and it is quiet when I have been there. I don't go during football or basketball season. The restaurant had a buffet breakfast on Saturday morning. There is only one free breakfast per room, and we paid for a second one. Not really impressed with breakfast.

We love staying here when visiting our daughter at ISU. Its proximity to campus is well worth the little bit extra you might pay. And the bar/restaurant is so nice to have. We always cap off our night with a drink. Nothing like being able to wear my slippers to the bar. Always feel safe and the staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. Free breakfast is delicious!

The room smelled so bad like dogs and wasn’t cleaned very well. The bathroom door was difficult to open and close, when closed it has inch gaps on either side that don’t offer much privacy while using the bathroom. We arrived in the evening during a snowstorm, none of the steps or sidewalks were shoveled, the next morning when we left the hotel around 10am, snow was still 6+ inches deep covering the walkways and steps. Room was in need of an update, disappointing stay overall.

Also allow dog/pet stay though charge for a whole week at a time so I used local rover.com for just one night.(would be good for those bringing an animal for university extended vet care). Lovely restaurant, again with nice folks both waitstaff and cooks. Well appointed place with lovely views, even in elevators as windowed, and decent safe parking. Mini refrig, two clothes hanging areas, I had double queen, best sleep I've had while on the road from out of state. Looks like a nice pool and workout area though I didnt ho see or try as didnt bring vlothes for these. Would come here again in a heartbeat. Just lovely.

Stayed 10 miles from home so our kids could get out of the house with the cold weather and swim. spent over 175 between the room and restaurant and due to an accident the pool was closed this morning so now swimming. i was upset as thats why we paid so much. so i asked if we could come back later and swim for a couple hours so we can get our moneys worth and the reason for the stay and was told no. I guess i feel i dont see the issue with letting a couple kids swim to make up for the inconvenience. We probably would have spent more money at the restaurant and bar, and would have liked to make it our go to hotel as i tried a different one this time but guess not

We stayed in August when it was under construction and it looks like not much has changed, except the public bathrooms by the Iowa Stater Restaurant were closed for construction. The hot tub was also closed, as it was in August when we stayed. The service and food, especially for the prices, was horrible this time, whereas in August the bartender was friendly and the chef made amazing food. This time, I had to send the gnocchi back: dry, gritty and inedible. The soup was SO salty. My son ordered a Cuban sandwich $17… no fries, no sides, just a dried up ham sandwich (looked like Aldi meat) about the size of my fist. I rarely complain, but I was so hungry after waiting over an hour for food and even asking if they forgot our order. I asked for some chicken strips to go and told them the gnocchi was terrible; I only ate two bites. When they brought the bill, they were going to charge me for the gnocchi and the chicken strips, and no apology at all for the service. I went to the manager. He said he’d check. In the meanwhile the waiter took my credit card, so I thought the manager blew us off. Then the manager came out and said he’d comp the bill. I said, well, the waiter is over at the register with my card. He chased down the waiter and got my card back. In all fairness, they had a couple big crowds, but this was awful. And I had a really long drive to get my kid from college and just wanted to relax. We will probably not come back.
